New articles and DYKs
[edit]Hi Elekhh - and all the best for 2014. Since the beginning of the year, the updates to the New Articles list and the DYK list have not been displayed on the WP Architecture page. Something must have gone wrong with the mechanics. I'm sure you'll be able to fix it.--Ipigott (talk) 08:06, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Ipigott and Happy New Year! When I checked it today there were some January items displayed but not all. There seems to be an unusual delay at the moment with the updating of page transclusions. This is a server issue, and I experienced it also on other pages. The local fix is to request a page purge either by pressing this link (did it for now and works nicely) or if the problem persists could add a Purge button into the bulletin with Template:Purge. --ELEKHHT 22:31, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
- Happy New Year to you too. Everything seems to be working fine again today, without any artificial purging. Maybe the servers have started to catch up. Particularly in the case of DYKs, I think it is important to be able to see the most recent ones. And while I'm here, I was wondering whether we should not have a drive on the Top importance stubs, in particular Contemporary architecture, French Renaissance architecture and House-building. There are also quite a few in the High importance category that deserve attention although many seem to be over-rated. Perhaps the most important should be listed as articles needing attention? The automatically generated lists there at the moment are rather overpowering.--Ipigott (talk) 09:57, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- Good idea. There has been a 'renaissance' of editing at architecture so maybe is the time of the year more editors might join in. Agree that article importance ratings are problematic as we do not have a detailed criteria, and there is a general tendency for editors to self-rate their articles as high-importance. So importance rating is also something to be improved. Of the three stubs you're suggesting the contemporary architecture has the highest number of views. A fourth list to consider is Wikipedia:WikiProject Architecture/Popular pages. Another idea I had is for a GA drive. There are quite a few articles you worked on that are very close to GA quality (Utzon, Bagsværd Church, etc.), but I am time poor at the moment. --ELEKHHT 06:48, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Good catch. I don't know why I didn't spot that half the sources for Charles Rohaut de Fleury spelled it Rohault de Fleury. I just went ahead and merged the two articles - obviously the same person, and Rohault de Fleury is obviously much the more common spelling. Aymatth2 (talk) 13:53, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

Leaflet For Wikiproject Architecture At Wikimania 2014
[edit]Hi Elekhh.
Thanks for submitting a leaflet. However, there are some changes that I would like you to make.
We're doing our best to make these leaflets intelligible to non-wikipedians, and we think your leaflet could be confusing for them; try and include a clearer "call to action" - what are some specific ways they could get involved? We think Wikiproject Military History is a good example to follow.
Adikhajuria (talk) 11:19, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Adikhajuria, and thanks for your message. My aim was to create a first draft in the hope that others will improve it. Hence I invited WikiProject members to contribute, but there seems to be no volunteers. I am not interested in doing this all alone, so if you think is below standard please remove it, or feel free to improve it. I am also slightly puzzled by your link as I don't see much difference to the WPMH leaflet. --ELEKHHT 12:13, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
- @Adikhajuria: I'm surprised you were so dissatisfied with Elekhh's efforts here. I've tried to make one or two improvements to help things along. I certainly think Architecture should feature strongly in your efforts. It's a popular area for both editors and readers with a vast potential for improvement. Please let me know if any further help is needed.--Ipigott (talk) 13:51, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

OA for Writing Course?
[edit]Hi Elekhh! I am looking for two online ambassadors to help with a course I'm teaching in the Education program. More specifically, I'm hoping to find a few ambassadors who can review student proposals for possible edits and sources from July 25th to July 30 and then review article drafts from July 30 to August 11. I'm working on putting the full schedule up on the course page but those would be the main duties of the ambassadors involved. Think you'd be interested? Matthewvetter (talk) 15:42, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Matthewvetter. Unfortunately I am flat out currently and would not have the time. But thanks for the invite and wish you the best! --ELEKHHT 10:09, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
Hi. I think this would be best moved to a taskforce of architecture (rather than tourism). It's not a strong enough project with enough interest to constitute it's own project and then a new parameter could be added for hotels to architecture. Also suggested on hotel project talk page.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:27, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if this would work because it is an old project with over 30 participants over the years and many might be more interested in hotels as tourist destinations. --ELEKHHT 02:15, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Serten
[edit]Hi Elekhh, do you have a clue what to do with Serten. He just doesn't stop manipulating sources, see [1]. First it was 215 pp, now it is page 90 and page 163. Just this is ridiculus. And again the claim is wrong, because there is nothing on page 163 which states, that wind energy is not soft path! In fact you can only read that turbines get larger and are deploied in larger numbers and that there are some who critizise them, including some environmentalists. But he draws the conclution that wind energy therefore is not soft path, which is absolutely not backed by the source. Given the fact that he did this multiple times the last few days only Environmental impact of wind power and his history in the German Wikipedia, I am deeply concerned. You cannot work with an user who again and again tries to manipulate sources and who shows absolutely no signs of understanding that this is a huge problem [2]. Do you know a way how to stop that? This is a clear and deliberate vandalism. Are there notice boards for this kind of vandalism? I don't know enough of the structures in the English Wikipedia, but I know that it cannot go on like this. We don't need manipulators, to state it very carefully. 84.170.173.71 (talk) 14:01, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
- Look at it, it is incredible! He is editwaring about a citation that is made up! Because he makes a synthesis out of two sentences on page 90 and 163! And claims that a citation of page 163 is correct, because on page 90 the word "soft path" is mentioned. And there is nothing, absolutely nothing about a soft path on page 163, nor is there something that wind turbines are not soft path. This has to stop. Immediatelly! 84.170.173.71 (talk) 14:18, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

- Hi. You seem to be confused about why your edits have been reverted. The problem was that you removed useful and referenced information, replacing it with a list that does not follow Wikipedia guidelines such as WP:PROSE and WP:MOSFLAG. Furthermore you're confusing citizenship with country of birth. --ELEKHHT 06:56, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Question about your edit to Victoria (Australia)
[edit]I'd like to ask about your edit to Victoria (Australia) on 17 December. Why do you think the Greens should not be referred to as left-wing but the Labor and Liberal parties should be referred to as centre-left and centre-right, especially since whether Labor is centre-left appears much more debatable than whether the Greens are left-wing? Colonial Overlord (talk) 15:53, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
- See extensive discussions and consensus at Talk:Australian Greens#Left Wing, Talk:Australian Greens#Ideology and Talk:Australian Greens#Political position. It is not only that the left-right political spectrum is simplistic and misleading, but is particularly not useful when comparing traditional parties (that themselves use the left-right spectrum) with green politics. I support avoiding the use of the left-right spectrum entirely on Wikipedia, as is an outdated 20th century simplistic model, but on that broader topic there is no consensus. --ELEKHHT 06:12, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

- Done! Each template (in this case Template:Infobox building) supposed to have a documentation that explains how to use it. Unfortunately, over the years these have become more and more complicated and less user friendly. For a minor fix like this, an easy way is to simply follow the example of a similar article that has a more complete infobox. The coordinates you can find either in the corresponding French wiki article (or any other language), or with a Google Maps search. Hope this helps. --ELEKHHT 06:51, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
