Hello Everyone. Please feel free to discuss my contributions to Wiki here. All of my edits are meant to be constructive; though I am not necessarily an expert in all subject areas and can make mistakes. If there is an area of concern, please post information relevant to such here for me to review. I do not tolerate vandalism, so please leave any you wish to forward somewhere besides here or on Wiki pages.

I have recently been enjoying redrawing chemical structures on Wikipedia that are of low quality. If you know of any that need to be fixed up please let me know.

Ergotamine

I noticed the structure for Ergotamine is slightly incorrect. The double bond in the C ring should be in the B ring. An example can be found at [1]. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.144.206.95 (talk) 06:58, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

After discussing this with a friend, I'm told the double bond placement doesn't matter in an aromatic, polycyclic system. Actually, the difference you suggested leads to the same chemical structure. It may have a double bond in a different position, but--say, as, with benzene, where the positioning of the double bonds is irrelevant--the overall structure is correct. I did spend some time reviewing your suggested/referenced image for comparison, but the drawings represent the same chemical.

And while checking your edits to Wiki, you should make yourself a particular user, and not an unknown IP address. Through my brief checking, I see that you do wish to help the Wikipedia project and are not a vandal.

Ciclosporin

Hiya there!

When you edited the article Ciclosporin with the edit summary of: Changed IUPAC name to be correct. The former entry listed amino acids as subunits and thus did not follow protocol. You broke the page, or, more specifically, the image was far too wide. I have no idea how your edit broke the page so I couldn't fix it. I thus reverted the article to an edit before your edit.

However, the ciclosporin article being "broken" was not done by me to the best of my knowledge (I assure you, I would have noticed an improperly-scaled image as I always check my edits before leaving them). It instead might have been done by user with IP address 170.223.154.217, who changed the pixel width of the image from the original 250 pixels to 125, then reverted the size back to 250 in a subsequent edit. You can see this change directly at 1. Despite the edits by 170.223.154.217, I previewed both the 125 and 250 pixel versions, and both seemed to still look professional (though I find the 250 pixel version [the current size] to be much better than the 125 pixel version). I still need to learn more of the Wiki jargon and policies. Hiya there again :)

I feel privaliged to be the first user to speak with you! :) You seem to know your stuff concerning chemical structures!

I did notice that the user you mentioned changed the properties of the image, which when previewing both seemed to make no difference.

The specific edit that seems to 'break' the page is located here [2] where you adjusted the IUPAC name in the drugbox. The drugbox then expands to cover the whole width of the page. I did not know how to correct this (it would require a perusal of the IUPAC naming, which I have nfi about ;) And possibly an end-tag that needs to be used? - I'll look into this) I also can't look at the edits you linked to - the links don't work!

If the preview from the link above does not show anything abnormal to you, then it might be my browser causing it (I'm on FF 2.0.0.14 - I think its the latest one out) and I'll take a screengrab.

Just found out what the problem was; the IUPAC naming was soo long that it stretched the infobox to the edges of the page, and for some reason was not automatically clipped. I fixed it by placing a few spaces in the naming. Orbitalwow (talk) 17:38, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Hyperbaric medicine

I've removed the paragraph on autism from Hyperbaric medicine, as well as the "See also" link and commented on the talk page there. I think you were being too generous just adding a {{fact}} tag, in the hope that someone will find a cite. If an entire subtopic is uncited, my humble opinion is that it had no business being there in the first place. Thanks for trying to clean it up anyway --RexxS (talk) 23:33, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Unrelated: I noticed your problems with importing into Inkscape. Have you tried changing the document properties to fit the page to the drawing (rather than rescaling the drawing)? File -> Document Properties... then click the button [Fit page to selection]. I usually then edit the 'Width' and 'Height' to be a bit larger (as round numbers) then align the drawing to the vertical and horizontal centre of the page. Having saved your svg, you can open it in locally in a browser (drag and drop or File -> Open File in Firefox) and check how it looks before uploading. There are problems with how wikimedia software renders svg's (particularly annoying is the text kerning), so your problem may not necessarily be at your end. If all else fails, an svg is actually an xml document that you can open in a text editor. You could try comparing an svg made from an import with an svg created from scratch to see if there are any obvious deficiencies.

Finally, if you haven't found it, have a look at {{Talkback}}. You could have replied here on your talk page (to keep discusssion together) and dropped the template on my talk page to alert me (in this case: {{Talkback|Elbreapoly|Hyperbaric medicine}} ). Thanks for the tip with the talkback template. Hopefully I've used it correctly here on my maiden voyage with that code. Also thanks for the tips w/SVG and Inkscape. I'll check out some of my past drawings in the program and try your suggestions out. If you look at exactly the same template on my user page, you can see it says "Hello, RexxS. You have new messages at Elbreapoly's talk page." - in other words, it reads the name of the user from the page that it's on (and then uses it for the greeting). Wikipedia Campus Ambassadors wanted in Bozeman, Montana

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you're listed as a Wikipedian in Montana. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at Montana State University - Bozeman, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.

Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).
