Unwarranted Deletion!!:

Why, pray tell, did an established member of Wikipedia such as yourself delete two DYK submissions in two edits? Since it was in two edits, it shows that it was not a mere accident, but rather a more sinister agenda. Please tell me why? Regards, Spawn Man 22:50, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for your work on cystic fibrosis

I noticed your restructuring of the cystic fibrosis article and appreciate your input. The Medical Project has been working on bringing it up to featured article status! Several of the changes are less than ideal in that sense, however. Medical articles use an agreed-upon template which is found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Clinical medicine/Template for medical conditions. If you would like to discuss the current way that medical articles are constructed, please add your thoughts at the page. Featured articles also typically follow the manual of style, which prefers that headings contain more than one paragraph, etc. I will probably end up changing some of the structural additions that you made, but hope to keep the places where you improved the language, etc. Please let me know what you think! I saw your note and went ahead and placed the sections back in the original order. The template is nice, but I do agree that some diseases probably work better in a different order! I blended your comments in the different sections to help flow, but I've currently reverted the entire introduction. The introduction strives to summarize the entire article without being to wordy - I think maybe the best one is between our two. I'll give it a closer look later, but think that much of what was excised in your rendition should probably remain, IMHO. InvictaHOG 15:56, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

I appreciate your comments about the introduction. As I said before, producing a perfect introduction is impossible and there are so many good ways to say the same thing. As for the purpose of the introduction, the style manual at WP:LEAD gives us a nice guide about the commonly accepted role of the introduction. It may not always make sense that the introduction should be a summary of the salient points in an article, but most of the featured articles that I've read/been a part of follow this part of the MoS closely. I read the Spanish, French, German, Dutch, and Swedish versions. While I agree that they are nice examples of well-written introductions, they invariably fail to explain critical terminology in a non-scientific manner. Take, for instance, the French use of recessive genetic disease, exocrine glands, epithelium, mutant allele, ATP, etc. all in the first paragraph without any explanation other than wikilinks! Likewise, the German spills into autosomal recessive, chloride channel, exocrine glands without any mention of symptoms. If this were a medical textbook, this might be okay. However, one of the criticisms often brought up in peer review and featured article candidacies for medical articles is the use of jargon and technical terms without explanation. Unfortunately, this often leads to more wordy explanations of key terms and concepts when a single word would otherwise suffice. As for gene mutations - since there are more than a thousand described, listing a few seems to serve little purpose, though you're welcome to add anything that you think is germane! Where on the Earth did you find this image? I never saw any images of C. F. Wolff, except for a couple of silhouettes, drawn by some 18th century St Petersburg artist. It is widely believed that these two or three silhouettes are the only images of Wolff survived to date. Could you provide the source? Besides, the dress and hairstyle look a bit anachronistic: Wolff died in 1794, when wigs were still in fashion. The picture looks as if it was taken in the beginning of the 19th century. Dear user Ekem ! You edited article Ryke Geerd Hamer and at the same you itroduced some errors that must be corrected in the future in order to avoid a POV-article.

First of all, hamer is a former physician, now living in spain.

Second: you are talking about an alleged Dirk-Hamer-Syndrome. About this syndrome nothing is know for sure, however. And you wrote: (i cite)...The effect on the brain can be demonstrated by MRI where a specific focal alteration (Hamer's focus, or “Hamerscher Herd”) is apparent....this is not true, even from the POV of hamers supporters because they claim that such a DHS should always be visibile in CT brain scans, but not in any MRI. It is a fact that hamer never tried to prove his CT ring artefacts by comparing them to any MRI scan. I worked (after my study of human medicine) in radiology several years, and i know these ring artefacts very well. I worked also with a Somatom of Siemens. Ring artefacts can occur in older ct scanners if:

• the calibration procedure at the beginning of operation was not done
• one or several sensors are not working properly
• an if in different scans, these rings are seen in different positions

Hello!! I think you made the article Yuanmou Man much more in balance. I think you know what you are talking about, so allow me to ask you some questions. I still have some doubts on other dating results of Chinese homonoid fossiles. For the so-called Renzidong man there has been made a Chinese claim of more than two million years, for the Nihewan man 1.5 million years and for the Lantian man 1,6 million years. As a result of these findings Chinese scientists developed the so called Asian hypothesis, claiming an emergence of homonoids in East Asia parallel to an emergence of homonoids in Africa.([1]) Do you know this is a mainstream theory or just a China based theory and challenged in the same way as the dates in the Yuanmou Man have been? At the moment I am writing an article on Chinese prehistory on Dutch wikipedia ([2] so I am looking forward for your answer! Guss2 08:55, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Dear Ekem; Thank you for your contributions on the PMS page! I liked them very much. The suggestions looks good and made improvements to the page. Are you a doctor? I had a look on the page a couple of weeks ago in order to find out more about PMS and was shocked, because the page then was just crap. So I became a WIkipedia member and gathered some serious information and wrote a new one. :) I am sceptical to the Alternative views section. What do you think about it? There is a girl that insists it to be present. Do you think that PMS could be socially constructed - meaning that women become sick because they think they are supposed to? (See the talk section.) In principle I would leave the alternative section simply because there are differing views on PMS, perhaps more in the non-medical community, so that could be elaborated there. No, it is not supposed. As our PMS page says, ""PMS" redirects here. For other uses, see PMS (disambiguation)." So when you type in "pms" in small letters, you are supposed to arrive at our PMS page, as this is the most common meaning of "pms". Instead now, you arrive at an empty page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pms. Here the PMS page should have been. Do you think you could fix it - or tell me how to do it? Just let it be. Most users who type in "PMS" will be looking for PMS, so they will get it directly. Users who type in pms may be looking for another lemma, so they go to the disambiguation site, from there they still can go to PMS if that is what they want. Ekem 12:43, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

TourEgypt

Here is a long discussion on the reasons why touregypt.net linked sites were suddenly banned--without any prior notice--from Wikipedia. Apparently some Admin. named Betacommmand placed it on the blacklist because he thinks it carries too much Ad links. (ie: Spam) Unfortunately, so does most Egypt related web sites but he doesn't seem to care about this inconsistency. Its a painful discussion. It looks like the rest of the world can google and access any Egypt related matter by TourEgypt but Wikipedia users are now banned from accessibng it on Wikipedia. Most TourEgypt stories show up in the Top 10 or 20 list of searches on Google but Betacommand does care about this as he hasn't even bothered to make a response on the discussion here fora t least 2 full days. You are welcome Ekem. I hope the blacklist on this web site is lifted as the the Wikimedia monitor indicated but prefer to wait a few days before attempt to restore any TE linked web sites. I don't want to be accused--unfairly I might add--of being a spam mer since many of the articles on TE have little interest to me but those that do are of immense value. It is good to know that some Third World child who has access to the Internet can read them. I will, however, take the monitor's instructions into consideration and make sure any TE articles that I may post on Wikipedia have 1)book references and 2)can't be easily sourced elsewhere on the Internet. TE articles which don't contain references would not be considered credible since their information cannot be verified even though I know from the quality of their articles that Jimmy Dunn and his TE team do peform much academic research--on Ancient Egyptian history at least--before they place articles online. Do you mean de:Ludwigshafen am Rhein or de:Bodman-Ludwigshafen? The former actually lies at the left Rhine river bank while the latter is a small village at Lake Constance. --213.155.224.232 18:16, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

It is Ludwigshafen am Rhein, and you are right it is on the left side. It is a significant distance from Schaffhausen, but see the bombs on Zurich were destined for Aschaffenburg (300 km). Ekem 22:34, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

I was actually replacing the stub tag that was already there (a generic medicine one) with a more specific tag (cancer-stub), as I was working my way through cleaning up the medicine stubs category. Wikimedia Commons

Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! As you may know, there is another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In future, please upload media there instead (see m:Help:Unified login). That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. SS Indigirka

Nice article! A couple of sources which you may be unaware of which you could use to expand the article a bit. Plimsoll Ship Data has copies of Lloyd's Register which give details such as Official Numbers, Code Letters, Tonnage, measurements, operators, builders, etc. The index of entries for Indigirka is here. Miramar Ship Index also has useful info, including a name not mentioned in the article. See the entry for Indigirka. If the ship is still active generally go with current name - unless there was any significant event under a former name or the ship spent a very long time under a former name. Feffer and Robeson

Hi, Horwitz cites no sources and when measured against NINE different Robeson biographers, that have all said Robeson expressed not one word on any record publically or private that he felt shame about not helping Feffer. a line like "Robeson felt shame his whole life.." is not credible. Robeson is not Madonna or a vanity Fair pop culture celebrity, his life is meticulously documented. His son Paul Robeson jr is the one whom he told his recollections to. Not Horwowitz. I have kept the section very balanced, please cite sources that actually had real sources. There are plenty of anti-communist references in that section to keep it 'balanced.' Template filling and Citation BOTs

When adding *cite journal* references as you did in Ovarian cancer, the template filling tool makes it easy if you have a pmid or pmcid and the The Wikipedia citation bot if you have the DOI. The default Template filling values work, but select Add URL. It can be glitchy if the load on the NIH servers is too high. It can do book and web cites too. The Citation BOT or DOI bot is good for a final cleanup after adding cites – it will fill in fields that the template filler may have missed. Hope this is useful. Siege of Mahdia or Mahdian Crusade?

The Siege of Mahdia is, as you say, a part of the Mahdian crusade. As the Mahdian crusade was a true crusade but has no own lemma, wouldn't it be more systematical to move "Siege of Mahdia" to lemma "Mahdian Crusade" and list it among the crusades in lemma "Crusades", where it is not mentioned at the moment? Only a few changes would be necessary in the content of the lemma: The first sentence should be changed in "The Mahdian Crusade was a military expedition in 1390", and the heading "The siege" should be changed in "The siege of Mahdia" --Achsenzeit (talk) 08:14, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Any citation for edits to bedbug?

Regarding this [7] and the edit following -- there is already an entire article on the epidemiology of bedbugs. What you've added isn't wrong, but ... this article has a long and sorry history people adding unsubstantiated claims, and we try to stay on top of that kind of thing. Operation Broken Trust

I left a response on the DYK page. I had another look at the article, which is looking better every time. I also searched around a bit more. The LA Times had little to add to Holder's announcement, and neither did the Washington Post, though they had two more editorials one could use to beef up the Reaction section. But the two NYT links I mentioned on the DYK page, this and this, both can help bring independent sourcing to the main section of the article (I don't believe that such reporting is all "criticism"), and that would certainly help broaden the article's authority.

I intended for these comments to be helpful, not to be mere criticism. I've asked other editors at DYK to weigh in as well, and if they disagree with me, that's fine. All the best, Drmies (talk) 01:19, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
