Daniel LaPlante article
[edit]Hello, Eat Your Makeup, and welcome to Wikipedia!! I wanted to let you know that I edited an article, Daniel LaPlante, that you also recently edited. My changes went pretty far to undo your changes, so I wanted to explain. I'm also assuming that you were acting upon the tag placed on the article advising that the "article needs more links to other articles to help integrate it into the encyclopedia." (I'm not usre why this tag was added; I may ask the user who added it.)
In any case, I myself often remove hyperlinks, based on Wikipedia's guidelines on overlinking. My understanding is that a hyperlink should be added only when it helps to clarify and offer information that an average reader wouldn't otherwise know. As a contrived example, an article about COVID-19 might well have helpful links to droplets or epidemic, but-- in my opinion-- nothing would be gained by linking to hospital or death or Italy. While these may be related to the main topic, people already know what these are. One way to look at it is: would anyone actually follow this link in order to understand the source article better? If the answer is "no", then the link adds nothing (and would never be followed.)
That's my reason for removing many of the links. As I said, I aim to ask Sun Creator why he or she added the "underlinking" tag. I see that you are a new user, and I wanted to thank you, encourage you and explain my reasoning. Happy editing! - Jkgree (talk) 17:03, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
Image captions
[edit]It’s great that you are adding images to Commons, and including them in articles here. But please add a useful caption to each image. If you don’t have time to do this, please at least remove the copyright notice. If you click on any image in an article, a new screen will appear with the correct licence notice and attribution. Including this information in the caption, with a copyright symbol, just creates confusion. Brianjd (talk) 04:39, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
