Thanks for the note about 3RR for "ACN Inc."
I've done many things on Wikipedia, but I've never requested that a user be blocked for 3RR on the 3RR noticeboard. I was not aware that a warning was required for this (though it makes sense now), and I was looking for a valid reason to block a user who, based on your comment to me, was blocked anyway for a different reason. Thank you for the advice. Shalom Hello 04:30, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Why do you keep messing with my article
How come you keep deleting my Sherwood Dungeon article? you sudgested it for speedy deletion before it had been up for half an hour! You did not even give me enough time to finish writing it and assert its notability! All i need is time and you keep having it deleted!Gnrl-secret 23:14, 1 July 2007 (UTC) By the way i do understand that it is not "my article". I just seem to feel like it is because I made it and wrote it. What i meant to say was why do you keep destroying my Sherwood Dungeon article. It is played by 40,000 people a month. i think that that makes it noteable enough to be on wikipedia. If you look around wikipedia you will find tonns of articles that have absolutly no reason to be included on wikipedia. why do you keep picking on the sherwood dungeon article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gnrl-secret (talk • contribs) 23:19, 1 July 2007
Borderless World Volunteers
Thank you for your edit comments. I understand your reasoning behind flagging this article but I believe that according to the Wikipedia notability guidelines for organisations it says "Large organizations are likely to have more readily available verifiable information from reliable sources that provide evidence of notability; however, smaller organizations can be notable, just as individuals can be notable, and arbitrary standards should not be used to create a bias favoring larger organizations." While the organisation may not be Oxfam, it has been covered by news sources including the university newspapers, an article of which can be found at McGill Tribune Campus Newspaper. The organisation has a Board of Directors with professors from Harvard, Johns Hopkins, McGill and Oxford. It currently has over 800 members and is expanding quickly. I have seen small organisations on Wikipedia be covered. I really appreciate your help in keeping Wikipedia clean, but I do ask for your understanding in this matter. Please instruct me if I need to put the script info back up again. All the best. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Martinwhite (talk • contribs) 02:46, 6 July 2007

Re: Question about the contest
We never really made any provision for adding articles to the logs after the fact, so my initial inclination would be to avoid that particular can of worms and just limit it to keeping track of entries listed in the current month. Given that it's basically a "just for fun" thing, I don't think it's a big deal if some articles don't get counted. Kirill 04:50, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Post to delete
Did you read the part of my post that stated that according to WP:NPF (People who are relatively unknown) Wikipedia also contains biographies of people who, while notable enough for an entry, are not generally well known. Sir, I respect your position in the community. As such, I realize that perhaps edits (particularly of awards) should be made. However, please feel free to browse through the bios section for Airmen in the USAF. There are plenty. I do, therefore, believe that my service in the world's greatest Air Force and the resulting contributions to the digital forensics community make me, while not "generally well known" at least "notable enough for entry" (referring back to WP:NPF). Keep in mind that the target audience is the digital forensic community. Do you think that the listed publications do not warrant notability at least in that field. I sincerely request that you re-edit your post to state to keep with the action of editing awards and decorations. Also, just a heads up, you forgot to do the four tilde to sign the post. Thank you for your time and interest.Afcyrus 05:18, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Phyllis McCarthy is a dogbreeder who is included. Norm Augustinus is a podcaster who is included. How about this one? Carl Free is a Swedish businessman. Have you read through the bios? There are countless bios shorter and seemingly less significant than mine who are accepted (and rightfully so). The purpose of wikipedia is to share information. I want for my publications to be sought and known about by the digital forensic community for THEIR BENEFIT. I just so happened to post an originally poorly written bio at the same time that some people were trolling recent posts with a javascript program called Twinkle. That's the only reason my article is even questioned. While I may not warrant notability because of my military service specifically, I feel that my contributions to digital forensics is definitely notable (as do other people). I am even willing to remove the military infobox if you think that would be a fair article, but my contribs to digital forensics are notable, and I honestly don't understand how you don't see that. Please reconsider, sir.Afcyrus 05:35, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
PS Levitow is WELL KNOWN throughout the Air Force.
That is a keep/delete conversation. It is not the place for debate or introduction of new information.
- How is it fair that people allow Charlene to post AGAINST the policy for deletion review?! This is not the place for debate. The debate page was closed long before there was ample time to debate the deletion of the article. "Remember that Deletion Review is not an opportunity to (re-)express your opinion on the content in question. It is an opportunity to correct errors in process (in the absence of significant new information), and thus the action specified should be the editor's feeling of the correct interpretation of the debate." (Per WP:DRV). Afcyrus 15:03, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Check this out: Wikipedia:Today's_featured_article/August_2007 for Aug 1st. Baden-Powell was a Brit general and founder of the Scout Movement. Aug is the 100th anniversary. We tried to get Brownsea Island Scout camp on the main page during the first week of August, but are happy with this anyway. I don't fight vandals much when something is on the main page, just check the version after it comes off with the final good pre-main page version. We've been sprucing it up the last few days. W. T. Glad to see you back
There is a recommendation on the talk page of the "List of U.S. Marines". What do you think of it? Tony the Marine 00:56, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Marine Biographies
I just wanted to respond to the discussions you left on my talk page. I didn't realize there was a standard template, is there an MOS page with this info that I can reference? Though I admit that many of the pages I have made edits to have similarities, many are also very different. Many don't seem to have the same sections, many lack infoboxes, references, or links to related articles. In regards to the citations themselves I have seen several different styles, some are in blockquotes, some in italics, some in quotation marks and many don't have it at all. In addition to this the sections titles differ some call if Citation, Medal of Honor citation, Medal of honor etc. Not trying to be argumentative, just looking for calrification.--Kumioko 19:46, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
List of U.S. Marines
How about if I moved the page back to "List of famous U.S. Marines"? I mean the title of the page sould match the subject or subjects. The title as "is" really makes no sense at all, to the casual reader it call be misunderstood that it can refer to almost anyone who was or is a Marine. What do think? Tony the Marine 22:35, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Done! Tony the Marine 23:00, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- It was moved back because of a stupid and senseless rule: "Per guideline, lists should not have "famous" in their titles". You go figure. Hwo about "notable"? Should we try that? Tony the Marine 19:23, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:AMEshield.gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:36, 7 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Would you please help me? I am trying to find the deletion discussions for Olga Karavaeva, I'm pretty sure the subject matter passes the notability requirements, and that the most recent delete was as a copyvio, one which came through ignorance of policy. I think Miss Karavaeva created the article herself, but it was a copyvio from her own website, and that the copyvio problem could be resolved by asking her to give herself permission to gnu license or to place the material in the public domain. If you would, could you copy the latest version of the article to User:Pedant/Olga Karavaeva for me. If possible I would also greatly appreciate if you could help me locate any deletion discussions or similar relevant material. Thanks very much for any of this that you can help me with. And congratulations on your new adminship! User:Pedant ( can't log in right now 67.49.8.228 22:51, 17 September 2007 (UTC) )
- Apparently the article was Olga karavaeva which you deleted 2006 August 11. I understand notability/vanity/COI/verifiability/reliable sources etc., (I helped write some of those policies), she is notable, and there is plenty of info on her from reliable sources, but someone else needs to write the article who isn't Olga and use resources besides her own website.
- I just don't have admin tools, and don't think I should have them, because I only access and edit Wikipedia in brief spurts. I don't want someone thinking they can ask for help from me and get a timely response. Can you please help me retrieve the deleted article and locate the deletion discussion?
- Like I said, I'm not on Wikipedia all the time, so a year-old mop seems pretty new to me. Thanks for your help. User:Pedant 22:32, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Marine Corps MOH Citations
Sorry I thought I already got back with you on that. Here is the new link to the Marine Corps Historical Branch website were the citations can be found. http://www.tecom.usmc.mil/HD/Whos_Who.htm. Comment?
The MoH images are being removed from the infoboxes by Kumioko. I know that you went through a lot of trouble placing these in infoboxes, so I thought that I would ask you to comment on that. Tony the Marine 23:40, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- I agree, i edit VC articles and know that it can look good and act as a guide. Yet, if the correct infobox is being used then it will also list MOH under the awards section. The infobox is primarily a summary of their life, quick access to all the information. If a picture of the recipient is available then that should always be used. The medal can go later on in the paragraph. I apologise if you feel left out of the conservation, that was not my intention. I continued the discussion on the WT:MILHIST page because that is where the discussion would get the most "footfall". Infoboxes would start to get congestedif you started listing awards. Some would argue, perhaps erroneously, for the inclusion of other awards. What if someone is awarded honorary distinctions of a very "high Order", would we then include all of them? Do we show all the ribbons in the infobox? I think the main image should be the image of the recipient. I understand that this is a highly "emotional" (for lack of a better synonym) topic. These people are truly remarkable people who have done remarkable things. Yet each recipient is different. For some, this will be the defining moment in their life. For others this will be the start of even greater things. That is my opinion anyway. Woodym555 01:30, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

COBot changes
I have noticed a lot of pages getting modified by the COBot bot for people with different medals. Was that something that was consensus or a personal initiative on someones part. I know its not your bot but I figured you might now. --Kumioko 23:46, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- There was a series of CFDs on it--part of the craze to convert to lists. To get there, call up page history on the article, click on the cat in question, and click "this article's entry" on the cfd notice. If there are cats you're interested in, set a watch on the cat itself and you'll see when the notice tag is put there, that's what I do. Rlevse 23:53, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, I wished I would have known about those conversations because I do not agree with their decission. I agree with the argument that some awards are relatively minor and don't rate to be a category but even in the case of the Medal of Honor with relatively few recipients the lists are extremely long and must be split up on multiple pages. If we create lists for recipients of the Air Medal which has many more recipients the lists may be thousands of members long or span a large number of pages. Too late now though I guess, just my 2 cents.--Kumioko 00:11, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Medal of Honor comments
Thanks for the info on the use of full middle name or initial when naming articles. I had asked that question a few times already and hadn't received an answer. In regards to using received versus award or win I read somewhere when I started doing it that the Medal of Honor is not a trophy or award and shouldn't be referred to as such. I will stop until I can find and once I find it I will let you know.Kumioko
- It is not a trophy. But it is awarded. — ERcheck (talk) 01:42, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

GA sweep: Smedley Butler GA status on hold
I have reassessed Smedley Butler as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force. We are currently revisiting all listed Good articles in an effort to ensure that they continue to meet the Good article criteria.
In reviewing the article, I came across some issues that may need to be addressed; I have left a detailed summary on the article's talk page. As a result I have put Smedley Butler's GA status on hold. This will remain in place for a week or so before a final decision is taken as to the article's status.
I have left this message because, from the article history, you have been a significant contributor. If you no longer edit this article, please accept my apologies - it's got a fairly complicated editing history and I don't like to do this without trying to notify potentially interested editors ;)
All the best, EyeSereneTALK 18:41, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Alphabetically, you are the first admin who has made an edit in the last half hour. We have quite a backlog at DYK and the update is overdue. Could you do it.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 16:47, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you!
Hello ERcheck. I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your assertion of notability of my Wiki entry on the musician Unit. My hours of work haven't gone to waste, and it has renewed my respect for the greatest encyclopedia in the world, Wikipedia! Omotorwayo 03:09, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I misunderstood. I'll add citations as you request some time on 10/15/07 (and the only reason I haven't yet is because I hadn't figured out the commands for inserting them. Well, I'm glad there wasn't a speedy deletion of the article anyway. Thanks for the information. Omotorwayo 13:21, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Smedley Butler photos
Thanks, for the photo templates I will get those fixed. I couldn't even find a mention of the snipers bullet (althought the book mentions that snipers were taking shots at them) so I removed it already. Iagree it would be a good topic on the talk page. I am going to see if I can get some info on that and a couple of other things from the folks at Marine Corps museum or at the archives but it may be this weekend before I get it. I am also going to see if they have some other pictures. By the way if your interested I added a lot of info for the Marine Corps Brevet Medal also.--Kumioko 13:08, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Hey
I guess I will be around for the occasional edit. Nothing like I was in the past though. Don't have the time anymore to contribute like I used too. I'll just be bouncing around fixing little things here and there and adding where I can based on what I am reading that day. The Portal continues to look good, great work with that. Hope everything else is going well.--Looper5920 13:33, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

GA sweep: Smedley Butler pass
I've now passed Smedley Butler's GA reassessment. I believe the work you put in to ensure this article retained its GA status deserves recognition, so you may wish to copy the following template: {{User Good Article|Smedley Butler}} and paste it to somewhere suitable (such as your user page).
It will produce the following userbox
This user helped promote Smedley Butler to good article status. |
and add you to the category "Good Article contributors".

Templates
Sorry to be a bother but I had a couple of recommendations that I wanted to run by you. I saw that you made a change to the format of the findagrave template and I wanted to suggest another. I recommend that we add the Retrieved on and date thing to the end of the template. In regards to another template I wanted to suggest another change. I think we should modify the Age template to wikilink the from date like it does for the to date. Let me know what you think. I know that I should suggest these on the discussion pages for the templates but I wanted to run them by you first since you have been doing this for a while.--Kumioko 01:44, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:ItsNotAbouttheBike bookcover.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:ItsNotAbouttheBike bookcover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 12:19, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Byrd's North Pole claim
Byrd took a sextant reading of the Sun at 7:07:10 GCT (1926-5-9). His erased diary record shows the solar altitude to be 19°22'34", while his later official typewritten report shows the same 7:07:10 altitude to be 18°15'32". (See Goerler 1998, compare pages 84-85 to page 154.) The bottom line is that Byrd knowingly falsified the navigational record of his flight and then tried to cover it up. If there is an innocent explanation for this, I have yet to hear it, from Portney or anyone else. Until then, the case against Byrd's 1926 claim should be considered to be factually established. I have indicated as such in the main article on Byrd. --Keithpickering (talk) 21:49, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Exactly the opposite. As Byrd's claims have been widely accepted, the assertions that they are false need to be proven. What reliable sources have proven that these are the facts? Are there other sources who dispute this? Extraordinary claims require unquestionable sources. Is it generally accepted in the scientific community / among historians that the records were falsified? Wikipedia is not the forum to establish these claims. Wikipedia does not accept original research. — ERcheck (talk) 02:22, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- BTW, I checked the navworld link and it is up. — ERcheck (talk) 03:10, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- See the talk page for a references speaking to both sides of the issue. Rawlins' interpretation of the diary is not completely accepted, though it does keep the controversy of the claim alive at this point. — ERcheck (talk) 02:16, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Just had an idea and wanted to see if you would be interested. I was thinking about template boxes, much like the one for say Commandant of the Marine Corps, for all of the Major Subordinate Commands in the Marine Corps [1st - 6th Mar Div, 1st-4th & 9th Air Wing and 1st - 4th MLG (old FSSG)]. I am talking about the boxes that state current, preceded and succeeded by information. Just a thought and I wouldn't want to go any lower than this level b/c at least they are all general officers here. My dear friends in Wikipedia,
I would like to share with you that today, November 28, 2007, I was honored by the Senate of Puerto Rico with the "Resolution of the Senate Number 3603" in appreciation for my work in Wikipedia regarding Puerto Rican military related articles. I was given the resolution on behalf of the Senate by the President of the Puerto Rican Senate, the honorable Kenneth McClintock. It was a total surprise which I did not expect and that is why I want to share this news with you my friend. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:48, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

List of Marine units
I've been thinking about reorganizing the various lists of USMC units, and wanted your input on the matter (since you are heavily involved in USMC articles). I spell out my idea here, but here is the gist: I think it would be best to group units together by which component of the MAGTF they fulfill: Ground combat, Aviation, Combat Service Support, Other, and Inactive. This makes five very comprehensive lists, in hierarchical order, and much easier for a civillians to see and understand teh organization of the Corps, as well as make it easy for a Marine to find a specific unit. bahamut0013♠♣ 00:01, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- I see that you have asked Looper5920 about this. I defer to his thoughts -- as he has put a huge effort into unit articles, whereas, I've been working the biography side. — ERcheck (talk) 01:11, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Humbert Roque Versace GA sweep (on hold)
I have reassessed this article as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force. We are currently revisiting all listed Good articles in an effort to ensure that they continue to meet the Good article criteria.
In reviewing the article, I came across some minor issues that may need to be addressed; I have left a detailed summary on the article's talk page. Use of "public domain" templates in References section
- Thanks for the info, I wasn't done yet, my intent was to do a few and then go back and add the inline citations. Since were on the subject though I do have a questions about it. Actually 2 questions. The first is when you have 2 sites with like information, like the Marine Corps whos who link and DANFS (for the sake of this we'll say the date and place of birth). Which one takes precedence or should you use both as inline citations. My intent was to use both as citations in case 1 stops working and to help validate the information. The 2nd is along the same lines but in this case its more specific to the Medal of Honor citation. I can list at least 5 sites that display the Medal of Honor citation and I was wondering if it was appropriate to list them all as references and or inline citations. Essentially ending up with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in brackets after the citation. Thanks in advance.--Kumioko (talk) 14:09, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

I do think that should contain a list of all awardees maybe on a separate page, that has a link on the silver star page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by HoltStudent80 (talk • contribs) 06:07, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Great job on the research! After watching the trolls on the 9/11 talk page today, it's nice to wade back into more interesting issues with experienced editors who know how to communicate their ideas effectively. I've replied to your recommendation on the talk page. However, I wanted to add here that I'm not wedded to my approach. I'm just looking for a solution with a simple formula so we can communicate its logic clearly to others. Thanks again for some very thoughtful work. Rklawton (talk) 01:56, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Melanieharrison, Intellect and all that jazz..
Hey, thanks for you note regarding the subject. I'm afraid my mentoring role clearly hasn't been taken up too well by Ms Harrison who doesn't seem to have grasped the idea of COI or spamming. Shame really. So, as I said at the MfD for her sandbox, as long as someone has asked her to stop spamming and if she intends to do anything furthe with her sandbox, I'll be more than happy for someone to delete the sandbox and, if needed, block her account and her IP from adding more spam. I won't take offence, it's too hot for me to do that! As you're probably aware, I can't do too much, I'm in an internet cafe in Vang Vieng at the moment so not particularly secure for admin work... Let me know what you decide to do (if anything). All the best and thanks again for giving me a shout. The Rambling Man on tour (talk) 05:02, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hey again, thanks for your response. Damn, these keyboards in Laos are sticky...! Right, your point is a good one, I've gone back to Ms H and suggested that in two weeks from now her sandbox will be summarily removed unless she either rights it or communicates otherwise. I'm not dictating that I should be the offending admin who destroys her work once again, in fact I'd appreciate it if someone with a decent secure login (and decent keyboard) would conclude the act should it be that I'm elsewhere engaged... Cheers again, and happy tidings, all the best at this time of year! The Rambling Man on tour (talk) 12:17, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I checked the website out. Hey, will I was working on my new project in my workshop "Hispanic in the USMC". I became truly interested in the case of Angel Mendez, who was awarded the Navy Cross in Nam. His family got in contact with me and I'm writing his bio. I waiting for some more info on his early years. Anyway, I would like it if you would drop over by my workshop and at the very end you will find the bio I'm working on (make any fixes). This guy deserves the MoH. Tony the Marine (talk) 07:14, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
For your watch list in 2008
In 2007, it was announced that Robert Leckie's book Helmet for My Pillow and Eugene B. Sledge's With the Old Breed, would form the basis for the HBO series The Pacific. ISounds like it will be the Marine equivalent to Band of Brothers. With this in mind I thought it might be a good idea to spruce up the articles that may get some added attention because of the series. From looking at the 2 books I would say that 3rd Battalion 5th Marines, 2nd Battalion 1st Marines and 1st Marine Division will be the big unit pages. ALong with the pages for the authors themselves which need some sprucing up I wouldn't be surprised if we need to create one for Andrew Haldane see this and look at Sledge's Book around page 38. He may be the Richard Winters equivalent for a portion of the series. That is all I can think of to start but I am sure this list will expand some in the future.
These are just some initial thoughts. I am sure the miniseries will generate some more traffic on those pages. Let me know what you think. --Looper5920 (talk) 20:31, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Could you look over Angel Mendez and provide any of the missing links? Thanks. Tony the Marine (talk) 01:27, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Aces Table
We had talked about this earlier and I took about 5 minutes and put a very rough draft together. It can be found in my sandbox. Just scroll down a bit. There is a very good one already available on the net so in order to make this worth it so I am trying to think about what we can do to really make this stand out. The other point to note is that the website only lists 118 aces while the Sherrod book (i.e. the bible for WWII USMC aviation info) lists 120. I'll have to figure out what the deal is. Anyway, take a look and add anything at all you think might make it look better. --Looper5920 (talk) 05:30, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Coker article
Please do not get into an edit war over this article. or risk violating 3RR. No There is room for discussion, and as this is a BLP issue, it should be discussed before adding to the article. Please keep WP:CIVIL and WP:NPOV in mind. There is room for dicussion, which is not the same as censorship. See talk page. — ERcheck (talk) 06:19, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- Edit war?!?! You are creating a very poor picture of yourself by deleting content with one of the lamest excuses for removal and following that up with threats of violating 3RR. Removing sourced material because it doesn't fit with your own personal POV is patently uncivil. Any further removal of sourced content without providing evidence of specific violations of Wikipedia policy will be treated as vandalism. The burden of proof is on you to establish a justification, and so far you've offered nothing. Alansohn (talk) 06:32, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
I'm sorry that you want to escalate this to be a personal issue. If you chose to view my attempts to mediate an edit dispute by directing parties to work on the article's talk page to come to a consensus as reflecting poorly on me, that is unfortunate. While you clearly don't agree with my deletion or comments, calling them lame, a jihad, threats, or uncivil is going toward crossing the line on civility and personal attacks. Quoting from relevant Wikipedia policy:
- WP:CIVIL — Civility applies to editing "[articles] and writing edit summaries, comments, and talk page discussions." Calling editors "lame" and referencing "jihad" are not civil comments.
- WP:NPA — Unacceptable comments include "religious, ..., ethnic, or other epithets" Calling an editor's actions a "jihad" is such a personal attack.
- WP:Vandalism — Wikipedia's definition — "Vandalism is any addition, removal, or change of content made in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia....Any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, even if misguided or ill-considered, is not vandalism." My deletion was made in good faith, not as a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia. While you threaten to view this as vandalism, it clearly is not according to Wikipedia. I did assume good faith on your part (see my edit summary), did you the courtesy of communicating to you on your talk page to let you know what issues I saw, and did not block you. I did implore you to use the talk page for discussion rather than escalate it to the point that 3RR would be an issue. This was not a threat, it was a reminder.
- WP:BLP — "The burden of evidence for any edit on Wikipedia, but especially for edits about living persons, rests firmly on the shoulders of the person who adds or restores the material." Therefore, the burden of proof that the edits belong belongs on the editor adding the material. I do not have a "personal POV" with respect to this addition — rather, I requested on the talk page that the editors who had a dispute on the content discuss it. I did not take the heavy-handed approach of protecting the page.
The article's talk page is the appropriate place to work towards consensus. I note that Rlevse has been discussing on the talk page and has been working toward a compromise. Your recent addition of a single quote from the documentary seems aimed at making a point
Again, I ask that you remain civil, try to step back from edit warring, work toward consensus, and also assume good faith on the part of your fellow editors. We are here to improve Wikipedia, not harm it. — ERcheck (talk) 22:56, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- Your bias astounds me. Deleting sourced material and making the patently false claim that I have started an edit war is some of the most pathetic interference I have ever seen on Wikipedia. Placing an accusation that someone is starting an edit war on the page of the person who has satisfied the burden of proof by providing sourced material, while carefully refusing to place the same statement on the individual who has made repeated false accusations of WP:BLP violations is bad faith at its most shameless. I understand you have a bias; try to find sources to support it and stop interfering with the addition of sourced material, and stop supporting unjustified removal of sourced material. I have worked towards consensus by offering the blandest, most meaningless statement that clips of Coker appeared in an award-winning documentary. That too was deleted as a WP:BLP violation. I added the quote to satisfy User:User:Rlevse demands for additional contest for the film. Your participation and claims of false threats seems intended to disrupt this article in the clearest possible WP:POINT violation and to hide material that provides a balanced perspective of the article's subject. I offered compromise, and you make threats. You desperately need to examine your actions before making further baseless accusations. Alansohn (talk) 23:36, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- I did not accuse you of starting an edit war. Please re-read the note I left on your talk page. Specifically, my words were "Please do not get into an edit war over this article..." It is a request that you avoid such. No where does it say you started such. I did not say you "violated" BLP, I said there was a BLP issue. This was the case at the time I wrote the note — BLP had been raised by another editor and I requested that "it should be discussed before adding to the article." There was no accusation made or intended with this statement — simply that with BLP issues raised, that the matter needed to be discussed and a consensus reached. My note on your talk page was not meant to accuse you and I'm sorry that you took it that way. Please continue all discussion of the article on the article's talk page. Thank you. — ERcheck (talk) 11:33, 24 December 2007 (UTC) Addendum: Lest there be any doubt, I made no threats against this editor. I choose not to further engage, but rather let Alanshon's tone and words speak for themselves. — ERcheck (talk) 04:54, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- In repsonse to your addendum, jumping in to warn regarding "Please avoid WP:Edit warring and WP:3RR -- WP:BLP concerns & WP:NPOV concerns" as a preemptive strike after deleting a clearly relevant addition to the article is uncivil and abusive of Wikipedia policy, and an apparent effort to intimidate and provoke. You and your article co-owner have repeatedly blocked the addition of information regarding this film to the article, in what clearly seems to be an effort to sanitize the content. As discussed with you, and in the talk page before you intruded in support of your co-owner, there are absolutely no WP:BLP issues, and the excuse User:Rlevse used to delete a mere link to the film "upon subject request" (see here) betrays a clear violation of WP:COI. That you could have added a reference to the Faith of My Fathers film in which Coker is a single word mentioned in passing, while insisting that a reference to Hearts and Minds is inappropriate and lacks context betrays a disturbing inconsistency, to say the least. You demand that prior approval is required before adding material, while you have never discussed any of the changes you have made to the article. It is laughable to read your talk page comment that justifies removing sourced material in reference to "BLPs must be written conservatively, with regard for the subject's privacy. When writing about a person notable only for one or two events, including every detail can lead to problems, even when the material is well-sourced. In the best case, it can lead to an unencyclopedic article. In the worst case, it can be a serious violation of our policies on neutrality. When in doubt, biographies should be pared back to a version that is completely sourced, neutral, and on-topic." when there is no privacy issue, the material was well-sourced, and you yourself found it necessary to include a passing film mention as encyclopedic without bothering to ask anyone's permission. The NPOV concerns are nonsensical, as they exist equally with the McCain film details you've added, which also has its own NPOV issues that have been left ignored. Overall, the bottom line is that none of the issues you raised have any validity. The most disturbing aspect of your actions are the threats made on my talk page which appear intended to push me away from further editing of the article and to leave the one-sided presentation of the article undisturbed. Your threats speak for themselves. Alansohn (talk) 06:52, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

I do believe Ben's story. I may just be a sucker, but it has a ring of truth to it. I actually knew about Alex living with Ben's family, as Ben and I have corresponded via MySpace and email since things went pearshaped. Maybe he is scamming me, but I think the threat to give all the info I have to his school has scared him into stopping any nonsense he may have been involved in. Also, his story about the others pretending to be him has been remarkably consistent for weeks now. That, coupled with the emails from Joe (the friend who was impersonating him) convince me that he is telling the truth now. I know there is a thin line between AGF and naiveté, but I would hope the community can give him one last chance, and let me try to mentor him strictly. I am willing to take responsibility for how it goes, and I am also willing to do what is necessary to give him consequences if he screws up again. Jeffpw (talk) 16:57, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- As I said on ANI, it's up to the community, whose patience has been exhausted. I won't be reporting him if he lives up to his side of the bargain, though, and I would hope others won't either, if he stops posting now. Maybe I should have been clearer in my instructions. I said "Post an apology, promise never to post again, and stop editing". I probably should have included "and don't stay at ANI debating the subject to death". Let's hope he stops now (he reads all of my posts since the ban, so he will undoubtedly see this one, too). Jeffpw (talk) 17:16, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- The ones this morning were from Alex. The apology was from me. 89.241.192.147 (talk) 18:31, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- Why is that important? I thought you werent going to file an abuse thing. That was part of the agreement. - Switching IPs again? I've made you no promises. But, when I look at your willingness to accept responsibiity, that includes being fully honest, not evasive. When I ask about computers and you don't answer, you have not "told [me] everything". Being argumentative, and trying to debate, as pointed out on ANI, does not help you. — ERcheck (talk) 18:49, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

I suggest you and all of your friends and classmates who have been involved in editing on Wikipedia in the past few months take a long break. Thanks for supporting the link to this article, I guess I need to add a public domain tag in the future.--Kumioko (talk) 17:59, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
Re:Note on speedy deletion of James Machon
Your assistance in helping with speedy deletion tagging is appreciated. I thought you should be aware of an issue with one you recently tagged:
You tagged James Machon for speedy deletion as a copyright violation. In case you run across this again, the text was the subject's Medal of Honor citation — which is a work of the U.S. Government, and in the public domain. The article's references linked to the source of the citation — which was published on the United States Army's Center of Military History (CMH). This article should shortly be restored. — ERcheck (talk) 18:16, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry for the confusion. As above, a public domain tag should be added next. —Coastergeekperson04's talk@12/30/2007 18:23
- Thanks, again. I was actually going onto add the inline citations when I found out it was gone. If you look at the others I added today in the M's of the Civil War you'll see them there. The speedy deleters where ust too fast for me. Also, IRT the Arlington Cemetery.Net website is there a specific article that you are referring too. I have put information on some articles but I usually only do it if the Arlington site cites a government source sich as Courtesy of 1st Marine division or something to that effect. If I do make a mistake let me know so I can adust fire. Thanks again.--Kumioko (talk) 19:16, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
