Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions at The Byrds. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing Wikipedia. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. Thank you. Spike Wilbury (talk) 18:34, 20 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Sunflower (The Beach Boys album), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page David Cohen (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hello, EPBeatles. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Elvis Aron Presley".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Beach Boys edit

[edit]

Hi mate, I added a change to the page for The Beach Boys album 'Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!)' which added James Burton as a session player. This change was reverted. In a recent interview video with James on YouTube by Tony's Backstage Pass, James shows a wall of albums in his house which he played on in his career, and one of these albums shown was the aforementioned Beach Boys album, which is why I made the amendment to the page. I believe this warrants the change being included. It's also well worth watching the interview as an Elvis fan! All the best JCTele97 (talk) 00:37, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JCTele97 Hi, thanks for reaching out. I'll definitely have to check out that video!! The reasons I reverted it were a) nothing cited (though I've been guilty of that myself sometimes), b) nothing supporting that (currently, as far as I know) in the work of sessionographer Craig Slowinski and his team, and c) potentially faulty memories (while I trust James: Carol Kaye is notorious for claiming to play on a ton of songs where she's confusing originals and covers -- or just plain making things up. I don't expect James to do that, of course, but I guess I was thinking rather be safe than sorry. Thanks!! EPBeatles (talk) 01:23, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hidden text

[edit]

Please don't add paragraphs of hidden text to articles. Hidden text is reserved for brief notes to other editors, or a few other purposes per WP:HIDDEN. The guideline does not allow for big chunks of text copied from other articles. Binksternet (talk) 23:49, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Binksternet, thank you for the info. I had partly put it there because I was having a hard time figuring out what to trim down and what to keep as relevant background information leading up to the album's recording sessions. EPBeatles (talk) 01:33, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can create various work pages based on your username, the standard one being User:EPBeatles/sandbox, but any other subpage can be created such as User:EPBeatles/Elvis. See Wikipedia:User pages. It's easy for you to experiment with Wikipedia in your own userspace. You can try out formatting, you can copy and paste text from other pages. You can copy an entire article then copy some other article text and move it around, or reshape it. Just don't apply categories to your userspace, because your experiments would show up as members of that category. Please hide any categories. And if you copy and paste text from other Wikipedia articles, the expectation is that this effort has your primary attention, and will be blanked by you after you are done experimenting. Binksternet (talk) 02:18, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Binksternet I knew I had read somewhere something along those lines, but I never really understood what exactly that page meant by how to actually do that. Is it just like creating a new draft article and just titling it or its URL to make a second work page? Thank you for all of the info. EPBeatles (talk) 22:38, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Here are the key points:

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Persistent failure to comply may result in being blocked from editing. Hi @Compassionate727, I was just pasting that there temporarily so I could get the names of the necessary musicians, and then I was planning on deleting that information. I definitely would not have kept it when (eventually) submitting the article to go past the draft stage. Thanks, EPBeatles (talk) 18:39, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That still creates copyright problems, because revisions are permanently visible unless manually deleted, so we then need to go back and do so. If you want to do that, please paste it into a Word document or something like that, or at least don't save the changes. Compassionate727 (T·C) 18:45, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I didn't realize that. I haven't attempted to write many articles before, so this is new information to me. I guess I'll have to use Word from now on. I didn't even know we could manually delete revisions. I've been an editor for a few years but am still learning all the proper protocol as I go along.
