Kevin Park article
Hi. My name is Amy. I'm 18, new to Wiki, and was wondering how to use wikify to incorporate Kevin Park (author) into overall Wikipedia, so that I can just google it and the page shows up.
I really have no experience and because I want to be a constructive editor, was wondering if you could please help with any advice.
Thank you so much for your time. :)
Sincerely,
Amy Buckbinder. —Preceding unsigned comment added by AmyBuckBooks (talk • contribs) 22:20, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the offer, Dylan. I was just joking at WT:RFA and I don't intend to run right now. Are you still planning to work on this article? NW (Talk) 01:41, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

- Done with all of #Medical work. Also, if it's OK, I made some of the headlines into subsections. Please copyedit as needed; I'm still not very good at this, and this is the first bio I've ever worked on.
- In addition, with my last edit I have done all I could for the article; I'm still not at the level of converting notes into massive paragraphs, like here. Cheers, Dylan620 (contribs, logs) 16:33, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey there :) Thanks for the note. I checked on Firefox and the IE application on FF and IE itself and they all look fine. Welcome to Did you know...
Hello! I noticed that you've been reviewing a lot of nominations at the DYK suggestions page. Thank you for your help, and I hope you will continue to contribute! As you know, you don't need to be an administrator to review hooks or to move hooks to Preparation area, so your help is more than welcome.
You may already be familiar with the DYK rules by now, but in case you aren't, you can check out the official rules and the Additional Rules. You may also want to look into some useful tools that can allow you to review nominations more quickly: the Cut & Paste character counter is a helpful JavaScript to calculate the length of hooks, and DYKcheck is a script you can install on your own Wikipedia account for more heavy-duty verifying.
The best way to learn is by doing, but here is also a quick reference of the things to check for each hook you review:

Thanks again for your help! I look forward to continuing to work with you at DYK, and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me or anyone else at DYK. Now get to reviewing some noms! Shubinator (talk) 18:36, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

- There isn't an automated way to load the prep areas. The hook and credits should be moved to the proper spot in the prep areas, then the nom can be removed from the noms page. Of course, each set should have an image with rollover text (and a corresponding hook with (pictured)). There are some tips here on assembling balanced sets. The whole process can take a while, especially the first few times. Let me know if you have more questions. Shubinator (talk) 20:12, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

- The article has been moved back to "How Sweet to Be an Idiot" by another editor, and I agree. Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks) says that standard English formatting should be used, even if it is trademarked differently (not sure if "How Sweet To Be An Idiot" itself is trademarked, but I think the guidelines apply). This is not original research because the independent sources in the article refer to the album by "How Sweet to Be an Idiot". Shubinator (talk) 01:15, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- Well, an album title is not a trademark. According to WP:ALBUMCAPS the title should be "How Sweet To Be an Idiot" because the "To Be" is a verb rather than a preposition. Rodhullandemu 11:37, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Re: Song articles
'Sup Dylan. Interesting set of songs you want to work on. Um, alright, have you tried searching, for example on Google, Silver Side Up Nickelback? Or searching info. regarding the album? That's helpful, due to the fact that the band have a track-by-track discussion, during promotion of the album. That's been helpful to me. Alright, I did a Google search and I came up with this for "Too Bad". You can do the same with the other songs you mentioned. Also, I see that you're "working" on "What If". Just a note, coldplaying.com is not a reliable source, its a fansite. If, you're still having trouble, don't hesitate to leave me a message, and I'll see what I can do. New Jordan School revert
Just a note, on the page New_English_School_(Jordan), you reverted an IP. The first time (he/she) edited, he just removed a section which was actually just very thought out vandalism, and you reverted it. I suppose he didn't know why he had been reverted, so in his next edit, he just added some text, and was reverted by another editor. I know you obviously didn't know this section was vandalism—there is an established user who has a strange vendetta against this article; I discuss this on the talk page, please see my comments on the discussion page, under the section "User Aua." I tried to help this article before (as this editor, for some reason, had an extreme vendetta against it, even blanking it and putting a WP:OFFICE tag on it at one point (obviously, without the authority to do so), among very strange/dubious other acts - see the other sections on the talk page). It seems the article doesn't have enough editors looking after it, and as the editor didn't get his way with deleting it (7 out of 7 editors supported it on AfD, but he page blanked it anyway), now he's trying to make a WP:POINT by adding egregious information to it and removing all appropriately cited information slowly. Please, some more eyes!
- IP is referring to your edit here which was made because blanking an entire referenced section without leaving a message on the talk page is considered vandalism. Your revert was in its place. He tried to do the same thing today, but I reverted him (he did that with other articles too). Should you want to see the article's talk page for the discussion with the IP, be my guest but it's basically the IP trying to promote the school with utter disregard to WP's rules on copyright and advertising while at the same time removing information critical to the school-be it referenced or not- and attacking other editors like myself and User:Roux.
- Cheers!
- Λuα (Operibus anteire) 08:40, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- That's why I made a comment on the talk page, lol. What's really funny is if you check the references of that "entire referenced section." They're actually bogus. That's what I say on the talk page. Furthermore, Aua continually accuses me of odd things. Like here, "He tried to do the same thing today, but I reverted him;" I'm not that same IP!!! I would (as I did and have done time and again) have mentioned it on the talk page! I'm not trying to promote the school. I have told Aua this time and again. Yes, I did that on the John Doe page, but that has nothing to do with this (that change was mentioned on the talk as the list was against numerous policies). Look at it and you would probably have done the same thing. The information critical of the school is being added by Aua on purpose; it is a WP:POINT as a reaction to our old conflict on that page, read the talk page. Aua wants the article deleted. I saw that 7/7 AfD editors didn't, so I tried to appropriately save the page. This extremely offended him, now he's trying to slowly degrade the article as a WP:POINT. I am beginning to think that the only way to sort this out will be some form of RfC. Obviously me banging my head against the wall isn't helping the article any.

- As I said, "I'm not that IP!" I did provide an edit summary, and an extensive message on the talk page (and a message to you about the other IP). I was trying to make the point that the other IP knew that that section was BS too! But nonetheless, I was reverted as vandalism. I honestly don't know how to approach such insidious vandalism as this Sex Ed edit by Aua (as well as the "low-standards" of the school edit). I might just have to RfC. I have no idea. I have been extremely civil with Aua up till now, but his accusations against me and continuous degrading of the article since the AfD is getting unbearable. 66.183.69.201 (talk) 23:05, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think maybe he should just recuse himself from that article as he has an ongoing (and strangely fickle) COI with it, but he won't admit it. 66.183.69.201 (talk) 23:07, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- PS I'd like user Aua to justify his accusations of me having "utter disregard" for those policies. Where else do you see any issue with me and copyright, or, for that matter promotion? I have never shown utter disregard for those policies (though I will admit I have gotten heated with other editors like Roux, but that has nothing to do with the objective facts of this issue). Huh? 66.183.69.201 (talk) 23:10, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome for the advice - let me know if it works or not! Also a question: how do you set up that banner to appear in the edit window of your talk page? I've seen a few but my curiosity's finally grown enough to ask. Olaf Davis (talk) 19:07, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
- All you have to do for that is create user talk:Olaf Davis/Editnotice and whatever you type there will appear whenever someone edits your talk page. Best, →javért chat 19:21, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, thanks javért. Olaf Davis (talk) 19:58, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Article writing
{{helpme}}
I'm having trouble with article writing. I want to build articles, but each time I try, I lack the focus to do so. I was recently given advice from another editor, but it didn't work. --Dylan620 (contribs, logs)help us! 15:57, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- Not everybody is cut out to be an FA writer. We need gnomes and janitors as much as we need people like YellowMonkey (talk · contribs) who can churn out an excellent article in a few hours. Look for a topic you're interested in (tropical cyclones?) and try to write an article bit-by-bit in your sandbox. I find it quite rewarding to take a step back and look at the work I've done. Eventually you'll be able to write more efficiently and it'll become easier. Hope this helps. –Juliancolton | Talk 16:05, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- Usually, I write worse articles while tired and too calm, I write best when alert, but not "hyper" as little children put it. Dylan, you might want to take my approach of writing an article in Word or by hand before working on it in the article space. This often works for enhancing your prose, too. :) Hope you can focus next time! ceranthor 19:27, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- Take your time when building an article, I usually do it in short spurts (an hour or so) and then stop until later or the next day. Because if you loose your focus then it means you're spending too much time on it and need to take a break to regain it before returning to the article.--Giants27 (c|s) 20:12, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- I might be a bit late to this party, Dylan, but here's my view. I find it best not to force article writing. It ends up with chronic writer's block, believe me! When inspiration hits you, you will know it and it will flow. Try collaborating on someone else's new article to get a feel for where their mindset has taken them: I did it with this article a few months back – just adding bits and pieces and just seeing it grow. Same today with Vicenarian and this article he created just a few hours ago. He's really made a go of that one, and it is inspiring to see how he works at the time let alone weeks afterwards! These things grow from stubs at an alarming rate, but as others have said, when you stand back and look at what you've achieved, it's great. Hope this helps, and please, get involved with that article if you can! :) – B.hotep •talk• 15:49, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Slirp
Hi, thanks for pointing out that the Slirp article, which I nominated for DYK, was a bit short. I expanded the article with an additional section and a couple more refs, so it should be of an appropriate length now! Moxfyre (ǝɹʎℲxoɯ | contrib) 17:27, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

RE:Admin?
Hello, Dylan! I would indeed hope to be of some assistance in both those areas if such a possibility were to occur. However, I'm afraid I will have to decline that offer at the present time. I am now entering what may be a busy period and certainly would not be online for parts of this weekend to answer questions, etc. I am also spending much of the last few days trying to re-establish a WikiProject which has sadly been lacking the attention. How does, say, December sound? I don't really mind waiting another few months (I'm in no particular hurry anyway) and I should have more free time then (or for a part of that month at least) if you want to get back to me (if you don't, I'm fine with that too). Thank you very much for the offer and the "great respect" bit, comments like that really help to keep the spirits up and make editing all the more fun. :) --candle•wicke 23:53, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
