Hello Dweller, my name is Norman Siegel and I'm an extremely busy man so please excuse my frankness. I'd like you to reconsider the delete comment on the Israel A. Burns page. I don’t believe that he was given a fair objective disication because of his age. He has notable references and I believe he has done more in the city of Brooklyn then most of the local officials. That being said, if you would simply do a more serious inspection of the page, hopefully you will see the noted significance thank you.--N Siegel 23:33, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Cricket work

Hi Dweller, i saw that you created som cricketing pages (biffer and blocker batsmen), anyway, i'm helping to format them a bit better, leave a message on my talk page if I accidentally deleted something in the process MichaelBillington 11:48, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi, since you are busy clearing up this article... I thought a suggestion might help. There is a wikipedia article containing a List of cricketers -- and the articles linked on that page might give you some ideas on the right style and formatting to use for Ted Alletson. Let me know on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Good luck. - Motor (talk) 11:55, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

I've copied your posts from User talk:Motor to Talk:Ted Alletson. I hope you don't mind... the discussion is about that article and things start to get a bit messy otherwise. I'll reply there. Thanks. - Motor (talk) 12:17, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
No problem. Dweller 14:18, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Have you read the literature available online ? Cricinfo has two articles at http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/england/content/player/8718.html and http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/england/content/story/70117.html .

Thanks... I have now! Dweller 14:17, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

stub sorting

If you'd like to help out with stub sorting, start here. You can also help out by putting the right stub on your article the first time. A list of stub types can be found here. If you have any more questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Have a great day and happy editing! Amalas =^_^= 13:54, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi, you may have noticed that I moved Ted Alleton's page to his full correct name. The page itself can still be accessed via Ted Alletson, but notice the redirect message at the top of the page. I've also started to build an introduction section for the article... this is meant to provide all the information in summary form so that anyone skimming the article can grasp the basic quickly. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style, Wikipedia:Annotated article and Wikipedia:The perfect article for more information. I've also created the page Alletson's Innings - which at the moment just redirects to Edwin Boaler Alletson. If you decide later that you want a separate article for his innings, you can change it from being a redirect into an article itself. Let me know if you have any problems doing that. Also, I'd appreciate you checking the article to make sure that I haven't missed any information or distorted anything. I'm not a cricket expert, and I'm just summarising the information. Also, feel free to change anything you disagree with. Thanks. - Motor (talk) 18:04, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Do you have any printed books/magazines that mention Alletson's innings, which we can use to better back up the claims made in the article? If you do, could you please add them to the bottom of the article: author, date of publication, publisher, ISBN number (and if possible, page numbers). Don't worry about formatting it correctly... just make the information clear and I'll do the formatting if you like. Thanks. - Motor (talk) 10:17, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
I've given the most prestigious, in what seems to be its most recent reprint. Dweller 11:04, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. I've just formatted the refs. If you are interested in how the cite book/cite web thing works: template:cite book and template:cite web. I've also removed the bold formatting from the several places. The usual style is to use bold for the first mention of the article title (in this case, the article has three: Ted Alletson, Edwin Boaler Alletson and Alletson's Innings). It's also good style to only link the first mention of a term, i.e. world record and not the subsequent ones. - Motor (talk) 12:43, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Very helpful thanks. There's a lot to learn about Wiki. A bit off-putting perhaps, but gentle 'nudges' by editors like you are an excellent way forward. Dweller 14:18, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
I know it can seem a bit complicated, but there's only really one important thing to remember: when you enter a new fact/claim/article into Wikipeda you should try to down note where you got the information from -- your source(s). Everything else... things like formatting, typos or organisation... can all be picked up as you go, and are easily sorted out by others. - Motor (talk) 15:20, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Persondata - you might like to spread that around too (like adding it to a few more cricket biography articles). The more people know about it, the faster it'll spread. - Motor (talk) 12:29, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

It should be Image of England.svg. You left out the .svg part. For those who have played only first class cricket, it is far more easier to use Infobox:Old cricket. Take a look at Maharaja of PorbandarTintin (talk) 16:06, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Dweller 16:07, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

For the start and end date, go to the cricketarchive page of Alletson (http://cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Players/27/27460/27460.html). The "Lists of matches and more detailed statistics" will lead to the list of his first class matches (http://cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Players/27/27460/First-Class_Matches.html). The convention followed is to use the starting dates of the first and last matches, and not the last day of the last match. Tintin (talk) 16:18, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Norwich City work

Hey, welcome and good work to the Norwich page. I'd like to keep contributing and enhancing this (and any relevant sub-) page and I'm pleased you're doing the same. More power to pan-East-Anglian supporters positive contributions to the Wikipedia! Budgiekiller 20:53, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

With regard to your comment on my editing of Pride of Anglia, there's nothing wrong with a little bit of football banter. I didn't expect it to last, just a little bit of humour among fans. Robbro7
Sorry about removing the white kit, couldn't quite believe it was true. How unpleasant...! Anyway, thanks for citing it and I apologise for rushing in too quick. Misc

Hi again, Dweller -- I really like the neat rewording you did in your recent edit of this article; that was a sentence I'd retained from the previous version I expanded, and to tell the truth, I had trouble with it! So, nice job!

I'm about to add some discussion about that very point regarding Noa on the article's Talk page -- and as wasn't sure whether you're watching it. (I've only been editing here for two weeks, and I still don't grasp all the flagging mechanisms.) So this is a head's up: you're invited to respond and I'd appreciate the input! (Just give me a coupla minutes to write it! :-) Thanks, Deborahjay 19:03, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Have done. Not sure I've been very helpful though! Dweller 13:02, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Don't sweat it. This sort of stuff goes on a lot at new pages. In a case like this, which is clearly a speedy deletion candidate, you just politely let the editor know how to oppose the speedy deletion with {{hangon}}. They often give up when you contact them on their talk page, if not, start working through WP:VAND warnings... and if they persist... WP:AIV. - Motor (talk) 10:46, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Having looked through his edit history, this article has been created and deleted before. So you could have also used {{db-repost}} to tag it. - Motor (talk) 11:03, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

It looks like your deletion noticed was removed by the creator of the article. I subsequently restored the notice once I found the empty article (though under a different reason). I am using VandalProof to do RC patrol. It's a pretty useful tool. 10:37, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

The deletion notice doesn't look invisible to me. It's right there in plain sight in the article. 10:39, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Indeed. 10:47, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Cool! 10:51, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Imperial Dragons

Hi. Thanks for your work on Imperial Dragons. However, it looks very much like it's a fan creation for the Warhammer 40,000 game, and probably won't be hanging around for any longer than it takes for it to be sent through AfD, so don't worry too much about it. Cheers --Pak21 11:57, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Groan. What a waste of effort! On the other hand, a) thanks for the nice message and b) I loved the hilarious message posted on the originator's Talk page. Dweller 11:59, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, very much have my eyes on the fancruft-central which is List of Space Marine Chapters... as for the message on the originator's talk page, I think it comes up WP:AGF: it could be canon and I (and Lowris) have just screwed up again. Cheers --Pak21 12:12, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Sorry for butting in here (I still have Dweller's page in my watchlist), but let me know when you AFD that space marine stuff and I'll be there to delete vote them. - Motor (talk) 12:27, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Hey, as far as I'm concerned, you're welcome! :-) Dweller 12:38, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Greg Wain

Hey Dweller,

I'm currently working on justification for the article Greg Wain, which I will post in the article's talk page. Hopefully it won't need to be too long. But in the meantime, Greg Wain is a headmaster of Australia's second most prestigious school (or is marketed as that anyway) and has made considerable contributions to emotional intelligence. There are also heaps of other things to note about him aswell, and as I mentioned earlier, I'll post them in the article's talk page soon. I hope this satisfies for the meantime...

Cheers JonoL 09:44, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Definitely. If you can find a source for saying it's Australia's second most prestigious school, then add it to the article and I think that'll help the argument. Good luck! Dweller 09:57, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Persondata on Stephen Fry

It looks ok. I'm not entirely sure whether it's necessary to list "Stephen Fry" as an alternate name though. Two things... it's a good idea to include [[Wikipedia:Persondata]] in the edit summary to clarify for anyone reading what it is (and pass on the instructions). Normal users can't see the data in the page and they wonder what you've actually done. Also, the date isn't actually U.S. style, it's ISO standard: year-month-day, which allows easy sorting by computer. BTW: if you read the persondata page, it tells you how to modify your own Wikipedia stylesheet to let you see the Persondata when viewing the article - Wikipedia:Persondata#Viewing persondata. It makes it easier to see which articles do/don't already have it, and helps you to see whether you have formatted it correctly. Let me know if that's not clear. - Motor (talk) 14:26, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Clear! Thanks v much. Dweller 14:39, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

I hope you don't mind that I've done some surgery on your article on the song to keep it roughly consistent with the other ESC winner articles I've done up. Of course, odds are that there'lll end up being some sort of template-y thing which will supersede all our collective work anyway. BigHaz 02:34, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

No problem, that's what it's all about! Dweller 07:08, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, you did fine. Personally, I would've zapped someone after their third warning, but that's just me. If he doesn't listen, I afraid that's my next move. I tried pointing him in the right direction of WP:BIO. Unless he starts asking questions, I can't be more newbie friendly... Let me know if you need more help. - Mgm|(talk) 12:05, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Instead of reprimanding him for removing the tag, I've asked him to provide sources. The search results for the tennis player make it impossible for a non-body building fan like me to find any relevant google links, but they could exist. - Mgm|(talk) 12:45, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

RE:Your welcome messages

What template are you using? It's better than {welcome}! Dweller 15:57, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I'm using {{subst:welcomeg|--~~~~}} . It seems the most welcoming as it is more graphicy and has loads more useful stuff on it than most of the other welcome messages. Benjaminstewart05 16:01, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject_Cricket/Quiz is the place. Actually there is a link to this from the Cricket project page. Tintin (talk) 09:20, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

There's no need to be bewildered by it... it's standard operating procedure on AFD. The AFD process is so broken and unscalable that it is close to being complete madness half the time. Wait until you get into the middle of the Deletionism, Inclusionism, Exclusionism battles and all the factions in between... and of course, none of the above. It's like that sketch from Life of Brian#Analysis. I'll leave you to figure out where you sit with that lot. :) - Motor (talk) 10:31, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Re: Nicholas Tildemann

I guess somebody agreed with me - the article was removed when I went to change it from a speedy to a reg. deletion. Sorry. Srose 12:36, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. It could still use a fair amount of work, as there is a decent amount of information out there that can be used, especially in the profile link I already have in the "references" section. Hiya, I saw that you slapped a {{db-copyvio}} template on The Needles (band). db-copyvio lets you insert the URL of the original source, so in this case the template should've read {{db-copyvio|url=http://www.video-c.co.uk/radarwatch.asp?vidref=then015&text=expanded&playback=S&player=QT}}. I've edited the template already, but I'm just letting you know for future reference :) Matt Eason 11:09, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

I took a look at what they did here - basically copy the warning that had been placed by others on their talk page - and have watchlisted your and their pages to see what may or may not happen next. I've found that whilst most schools seem to have sensible kids, some do not and need to be blocked. Sad but true. --AlisonW 23:31, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

The Working Man's Barnstar
I, Michael Billington, award you the working man's barnstar for your tireless contributions to the project. Note: You may wish to move this to your user page. MichaelBillington 06:25, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Dweller 08:54, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm glad you like it. If it may be of interest, here is my reasoning:

I was startled when I saw how many edits you have clocked up over the last two months. You have made around 650 edits in the last two months alone. I think all wikipedians should get the recognition they deserve from such a good lot of contributions, so I chose the working man's barnstar so you could see how much everyone appreciates you helping out here. You asked what you did right: You found something that interests you, and you expanded on the articles in your field. Keep it up and happy editing! MichaelBillington 09:12, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Verification

List of wars and disasters by death toll seems to be a bit of a mess generally, it could certainly do with some good sources. I am at a bit of a loss as to the purpose of the article to be honest. I cannot in truth see any point in it, though I doubt very much that it would be possible to get it VfD'd. I wonder if the scope of the article is just too big for one thing. I could see some point in having a list of wars, and a seperate list of disasters, but I would just list them alphabetically and I don't really understand the concept of attempting to put figures on the unknowable, at most these are just best guesses. I also wonder how events like the space disasters count as a real disasters, loss of life wise, I mean they vary from the loss of a single life to the loss of seven lives, these events may have been disasters for their respective space programmes, but in terms of the number of individuals that died their inclusion seems a bit odd. Then there's the Murder by individuals section, are we to list every single recorded murder? In the War and military action section it mentions a figure of 30-60 million for the 13th century Mongol expansion, but this seems just daft to me, it's pick a figure time. I also noticed that many, if not most of the comments on the talk page are unsigned, even by IP address, I find this quite disturbing, there are obviously some people here with an some sort of agenda, or maybe I'm being a bit paranoid. What is your opinion? Alun 17:31, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm... I've seen it before, thought not edited. It looks like a bad mess. And a political minefield too. What fun! We could get seriously stuck into it. Actually, rather than arguing the toss over every line, a good start point might be splitting the page into two halves for verified and unverified stats and gradually move constituent parts upwards? What do you think of that? --Dweller 17:59, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Meant to get back to you about the article, I'm a bit pushed for time but think it's a good idea to try to work on this article. By the way the thing that niggled me about the KP article was that my not verified tag kept being removed without a proper explanation. I'm always a bit wary of articles that don't use in line citations, as any new edit may appear to be supported by the list of citations in the article, because it is unclear which citations support which edits. Anyway I got the impression that the KP article is in good hands and any erroneous information will be quickly removed. I am quite keen on verification though and the Listof Wars article could do with some verification, as well as some major editing work. Alun 16:59, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Actually Dweller, I wouldn't go to the trouble. I've had second thoughts about that particular form of presentation, it's messy and complicated, hard to get right and rather restrictive, and the end result neither looks very good nor is that easy to read in my opinion.

I'm working on a simpler, more elegant and more functional solution for the presentation of data on this page. So if I were you I wouldn't waste too much time on the formatting ATM, unless it's just for your personal edification.

Actually, I might as well show you a quick example of what I'm working towards. This one uses a fixed width text that is normally used for computer code and so on, I don't intend to use such text in the final version, but the layout is pretty much how I want it to be. Just to give you an idea of what lines I'm thinking along. I find this solution to be basically simpler, easier to read and more flexible, in that you can discuss each event at greater length instead of being confined to a wee little box in which you try to fit in one little piece of info or another. I think it looks a lot better too, quite frankly, even in the temporary fixed width text format.

BTW, note that the code to this little table is not really suitable for using as a basis for table code, because the format for fixed width tables is quite different than for normal tables. I'm just giving you this as an example of the type of layout I'm trying to work towards.

30,000,000 - 200,000,000 - African/Atlantic slave trade (16th - 19th C)

27,000,000 - 72,000,000 - Communist China (1949-1975) under
                           Mao Zedong[1]

20,000,000 - 26,000,000 - Democides and genocides (1933 -1945) of
                           Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler

3,000,000 - 30,000,000 - War crimes of Imperial Japan, especially in
China, 1930's-1945, under Hideki Tojo and
others. See also Japanese war crimes.[2]

BTW, I've left a copy of this message on the article's talk page. Gatoclass 22:59, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Ted Alletson

Hi, Dweller. You were right first time re Alletson's name. He was called Ted and so that is what WP convention requires he should be called here. After all we don't give Johnny Douglas's name in full in the tile and that is a good example to support our view. All the best. --Jack 09:30, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

I have restored the speedy tag; I consider "no claim of notability" an abbreviation for the A7 speedy criterion. - Mike Rosoft 12:23, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

דוגמה למופ"ת - The Mofet article has been edited...

...and its creator advised (on the article's talk page) and personally welcomed (on his talk page). It isn't every day I dialogue with someone younger than my own children...!

BTW, the Hebrew I wrote here is a play on words based on his article's title: the phrase dugmah le-mofet means "an example worthy of emulation". Don't know if my writing qualifies, but since our junior colleague and I are new to Wikipedia, I think we'll find a common language to suit our common cause. Thanks for the intervention, -- Deborahjay 15:30, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Before you re-create that article, please note this: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pirate Party of the United States. Note the consensus. --Calton | Talk 09:33, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Before you suggest I've created something, how about checking the page history. Note the evidence. --Dweller 09:37, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
Why not just write an article about them? Even if they approve, it won't be the right tone... and let's not even go there with POV. Before you suggest something I didn't say you did, how about recalling what you suggested someone do? Or was that some other user named "Dweller"? --Calton | Talk 10:51, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
I didn't recreate anything. And I don't plan to. If the person that did wants to do so, he should do so with his own efforts, not a copyvio. And if he does so and demonstrates notability, he's done nothing wrong. I was trying to help, so admonish the bad guys. --Dweller 10:57, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
I didn't recreate anything Dot's nice. What that has to do with your actual suggestion that an editor actually do so in direct violation of the actual AFD I actually linked to -- which was the actual point, if you were paying attention -- I don't know, but if it's important to you, yes, you didn't recreate anything, nor did you kidnap the Lindbergh baby. --Calton | Talk 12:09, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
I had no idea that the article was a repost. (Incidentally, as I'm still something of a newbie, how does one know when articles are reposts?) I tagged him for the blatant copyvio and posted a helpful comment on the talk page explaining how the creator of the article could overcome that problem. I've done nothing wrong and deserve no admonishment. You posted your AFD after I tagged and added to the talk page. Now I'm off to improve my mind by finding out what the heck the Lindbergh baby is/was... but I do suggest you've fallen foul of WP:AGF here and I'm not the one in the wrong. --Dweller 21:30, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
