Speedy deletion nomination of Gekkos of Zimbabwe
[edit]Hello DrC.Humphreys,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Gekkos of Zimbabwe for deletion, because it appears to duplicate an existing Wikipedia article, [[{{{article}}}]].
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Vanjagenije (talk) 17:53, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
Hello Vanjagenjie Regarding the nomination for deletion The duplication you refer to is of GEKKO an ASIAN Genus of lizard.....my article is African Lizards of the Order. I am a zoologist, conservationist and a vet and I live (mostly) in Zimbabwe. The article now seems to be permanently lost and has been deleted by Alexf Thanks Clive

Geckos
[edit]I have just had a quick look at your draft article User:DrC.Humphreys/Gekkos of Zimbabwe. I have no views on whether it could become an acceptable article. I am writing here only to point out why many of the links on the page do not work, and therefore appear in red. Observe the difference: ''Lygodactylus'', Lygodactylus. If you use double square brackets to create a link to another Wikipedia article, what is inside the brackets must be exactly the name of that article, without any extra punctuation marks. I can see that this is confusing, when the name of the article is correctly italicised. Maproom (talk) 13:25, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
- as the other users have indicated , the article you created that was deleted has been restored and moved to User:DrC.Humphreys/Gekkos of Zimbabwe.
- not much of the draft as it stands is appropriate for the encyclopedia. since we already have an article about geckos as a whole and individual species of geckos, you would need to demonstrate that your specific sub-article topic, "geckos endemic to Zimbabwe", has been written about by reliable sources- so rather than repeating information about individual species- which are already covered in their individual articles- you would need to find sources talking about the Zimbabwe geckos as a group - what they share in common, what makes them unique, why the area has the number that they do, how the concentration compare to other gecko concentrations, human impact in Zimbabwe on these species etc. the bit about the stamp series is a start.
- Then you will need to document every claim by using an inline citation to a reliably published source (because of the dynamic and open editing nature of Wikipedia, we need specific inline citations at the point in the article where the claim is made - it is not like a permanent paper book where you write a paragraph and place a footnote at the end and the content and the footnote are permanent. at any point some yahoo can come along and add something or change wording and readers and editors need to be able to quickly verify whether a sources actually supports the content.) -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:07, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Gekkos of ZimbabweAfroedura transvaalica Dear RedPenofDoom Thank you for your comments. I have tried to improve these articles (above) as you suggest...like all of wikipedia its a work in progress....as is my ability to understand the wiki protocols and formatting language. I can see the points made about zimbabwe (that does not have a great deal of endemicity .....it does though have endemic geckos).....in my article the species are listed in red.....the articles about the gecko genera also have the same species listed in red i.e. they are stubs or starters.....i intend to develop these stubs....(two have turned blue as I added to them) ...not because I am interested in those huge genera but more because I am interested in Zimbabwe's herpetofauna....i feel sure that others will see this as a useful contribution ...the british library and wikipedia are full of 'snails of fiji' or 'birds of east anglia' types of research.... does they need editing, collating into larger topics or can they stand on their own censured. The original administrator who deleted this suggested contacting Wikiproject Amphibians and Reptiles which I have done ...... as yet they havent replied....for some guidance. Thank you for your contribution Clive DrC.Humphreys (talk) 23:03, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
Tetensis
[edit]Thanks for starting the article Pachydactylus tetensis. It needed a bit of tidying up, which I have done. Please remember to write in sentences, and notice how headings should be formatted. There is a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia, but it is an inteteresting journey. Happy editing.PamD 06:34, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Reptiles and frogs of the Eastern Highlands
[edit]Hello, DrC.Humphreys,
I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Reptiles and frogs of the Eastern Highlands should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Reptiles and frogs of the Eastern Highlands .
If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
Thanks, Vanjagenije (talk) 16:44, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
"Geckos of Zimbabwe" again
[edit]I have just noticed that you have asked me some questions on my user page. I would have noticed sooner if you had asked in the usual place, my talk page.
Here is what you asked:
- Gekkos of Zimbabwe DrC.Humphreys (talk) 10:42, 21 October 2014 (UTC) Thank you for your invaluable Remarks on article. I tried to italise the Generic names ..... but once the article was tagged i had limited edit function. Now I cant find the article at all !
- I have two questions 1. How you I retrieve the article Userfied by Alexf ? 2. If I were to title my article Endemic Geckos of Zimbabwe would it be more acceptable ? As vangenie says Geckos dont recognise human borders by they do recognise geography and exclusive habitats i.e. endemicity....the word endemic in embedded in the text several times Again than you MapRoom for comments that are helpful (not all are) DrC.Humphreys (talk) 10:42, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
What you wrote is now a "draft article", at Draft:Geckos of Zimbabwe. Anyone can edit it there.
Question 1: there is no need to "retrieve" it, it hasn't gone.
Question 2: I doubt that Endemic geckos of Zimbabwe (no reason to capitalise "geckos") would be a better title than Geckos of Zimbabwe. Wikipedia has an article Birds of Australia, with no "endemic".
I shall now do some copy-editing and Wikifying of the draft. Any changes I make to the actual meaning will be accidental, and I encourage you to undo them. Maproom (talk) 14:27, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
