Block on Arabic Wikipedia

[edit]

You blocked my account on Arabic Wikipedia due to the username. Could you please explain that decision? My only contributions there are imported, but on principle you should explain such a block. Fences&Windows 06:05, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello "Fences and windows", according to the policy of names in Wikipedia, this name is not permitted as it is an advertisement. But as you don't use it for advertising, I will unblock it now. Sorry for any disturbance. --Dr-Taher (talk) 13:51, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notice on Arabic Wikipedia

[edit]

Greetings, I got your note about my user name being unacceptable on the Arabic Wikipedia. It's my initials and I really don't have plans to edit (as I don't understand the language). Single User Login seems to have struck again. spryde | talk 22:09, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sp , Your account name is "too Short" but Don't worry, I add your account to a category of "Active accounts on other wikis", so It will not be blocked. --Dr-Taher (talk) 00:47, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciated. Thank you! spryde | talk 01:53, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Another Arabic Wikipedia name block

[edit]

I don't speak Arabic, and I barely edit here anymore, but if I do get a block on ArWikipedia that won't be global, right? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 17:52, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Lenin and McCarthy:, Yes, It won't be global. --Dr-Taher (talk) 20:08, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Doug Weller talk 15:09, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just confused by your moves. Doug Weller talk 15:10, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Doug Weller:, I replied there, I hope it's clear now. --Dr-Taher (talk) 11:59, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Many apologies, even with over 200,000 edits this is all still a bit of a unknown area for me. Doug Weller talk 12:01, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No problem @Doug Weller:, It was better if you discuss the case with me here. --Dr-Taher (talk) 12:04, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, but I did ask a couple of experienced editors by email first and as they couldn't figure it out... Doug Weller talk 12:06, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vanished user still editing

[edit]

Vanished user 1294567, who you renamed, is still editing. Nardog (talk) 06:02, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Nardog:, It's the responsibility of Admins (at local wiki) to block the account or to ask the user to rename it, if he decides to continue editing. There is nothing for the Global-Renamer to do. --Dr-Taher (talk) 06:18, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But isn't leaving the projects forever a condition for courtesy vanishing? You've already renamed them once, so why can't you simply reverse it for breaching the condition? Nardog (talk) 06:25, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Nardog:, as I told you, There is nothing for the Global-Renamer to do. Anyway I left a note on the talk page of that account. If he/she doesn't change the username you can ask for blocking that account. --Dr-Taher (talk) 06:32, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Then under what auspices did you rename them in the first place? If it's WP:Courtesy vanishing or m:Right to vanish then the agreement has clearly been breached, so what's stopping you from reversing your action? I'm not asking you to block them and it shouldn't be their decision to be able to continue editing as "Vanished user". You say "This is not allowed" and you have the power to undo the rename, yet you're not going to do anything? This is bizarre. Nardog (talk) 06:41, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Nardog:, I have renamed the account according to his/her right to vanish. It should be clear that: It's not the responsibility of the Global renamer to check if a vanished account has returned to edit or not, it is the responsibility of the local SysOp. I have the power to rename the account "according to a valid request from the account holder". So please discuss this case with SysOps. --Dr-Taher (talk) 06:53, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And that request has already turned out not to be valid. Are you instructed not to reverse your actions even in such cases? Nardog (talk) 06:55, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad you're seeking third opinion. Think of it this way: Courtesy vanishing is granted for those who promise not to edit again, even anonymously or under a different account. If someone you helped vanish breaks that promise and you can't un-vanish them yourself, that would mean anyone who convinces you to make them vanish can then continue editing under the obfuscated name until they catch an admin's attention. I think that would undermine the whole process of courtesy vanishing and the community's trust on it, and thus undermine those who request vanishing out of genuine privacy concerns and keep their promise. Nardog (talk) 09:17, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Trijnstel:, Could you please help solving this case. Thanks in advance. --Dr-Taher (talk) 07:24, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Translation of the International Holding Company (IHC)

Hi Dr. Taher, I hope you're doing well... Was wondering if you can help translating the ar:الشركة العالمية القابضة page into the English. IHC seems notable. What do you think about it? AHatd (talk)

ar Wikipedia username policy vio

[edit]

Hello,

You recently notified me of a possible username violation on the Arabic Wikipedia. I was wondering what was wrong with my username there, and what I should do since I don't want to globally change my username just because of a username violation on one wiki where I haven't even edited. Thanks! interstatefive  19:04, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Interstatefive, I have added your username to a category of active users on other wikis, to avoid blocking the account. You don't need to change your username. Thanks. Dr-Taher (talk) 20:31, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
