Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Dorian Boyesen, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited was Draft:Dorian Boyesen, which appears to be an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. We require individuals to meet Wikipedia's definition of a notable person to accept articles about them.
The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page. If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to it, please propose the changes on its talk page.

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Dorian Boyesen
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. A tag has been placed on User:Dorian Boyesen requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. - ok, I got it. It was simply a short introduction, and I will read more into the rules, as wikipedia seems very much to follow exact rules of publication, however, it does not really seem inviting to introduce oneself here. Dorian Boyesen (talk) 15:34, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
Writing about yourself
[edit]You are welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, but it is not a social media site like Facebook or LinkedIn for people to write about themselves. It is a quite different sort of site, a project to build an encyclopedia, so it is selective about subjects for articles. Writing about oneself is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at Wikipedia is not about YOU and Wikipedia:Autobiography.
Wikipedia user pages are not like those at social media sites. Their use is explained at WP:NOTWEBHOST:
" Wikipedians have individual user pages, but they should be used primarily to present information relevant to work on the encyclopedia. Limited autobiographical information is allowed, but user pages do not serve as personal webpages, blogs, or repositories for large amounts of material irrelevant to collaborating on Wikipedia. If you want to post your résumé or make a personal webpage, please use one of the many free providers on the Internet or any hosting included with your Internet service provider. The focus of user pages should not be social networking or amusement, but rather providing a foundation for effective collaboration. Humorous pages that refer to Wikipedia in some way may be created in an appropriate namespace. Personal web pages are often speedily deleted under criterion U5. Wikipedia articles use formal English and are not written in Internet posting style."

- Hi, as my biography page and user page have been rejected, I wanted to ask how to set up a cool user page, which is not marked for speedy deletion due to notability or U5 etc.? I looked at yours, and this is a really cool user page, so where can I find a template with these sections, or do I just need the skills to set it up? Dorian Boyesen (talk) 16:14, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- There is an older, inactive guide called the Wikipedia:User page design center that you can look through. I can't guarantee that everything there is up to date, though.
- However, I think your efforts would be better spent going through the Introduction to Wikipedia or the interactive Wikipedia adventure as a means to learn about the technical skills, site policies and editing culture here. Ultimately we want users here to be constructive contributors that help to build the encyclopedia. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 16:29, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
