Event Horizon - Need help urgent

I edited Event Horizon - Deleted Footage information again. I found some links with very reliable sources, including some with director himself, but i am having some big problems with editing, mostly with references. So, if you could check what i did and help me out as soon as you can, and possibly give me some advice, i would be very grateful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrew Ryder (talkcontribs) 16:07, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

It looks okay to me at a glance, but I should note that I'm not well-situated to review YouTube links. I assume they're to documentaries or such; if they're just clips from the film they aren't reliable sources, and if they are documentaries, please make sure they are not copyright violations. I also noted that you included a wikia as a reference; wikis are not reliable sources and should not be used in citations. Hope this helps! I'd really recommend raising this at the article's Talk page instead, where other editors can offer their input as well. DonIago (talk) 16:26, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Youtube links are for; clips from making of documentary with interviews with director and producer where they mention much of the stuff i added in article, Q&A video with both of them talking about the movie, deleted scenes from the movie (some with commentary by director). I removed wiki link and asked in talk and history pages if anyone can edit the article in better way, my main concern is that References list is too big. If nobody responds anytime soon, i think i'll ask NinjaRobotPirate to take a look at it because i like the way he edited stuff that i added on Nighthawks (1981) article. Thank you so much for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrew Ryder (talkcontribs) 17:00, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

You're welcome. Glad I could help. BTW, when leaving comments on Talk pages, you can sign your posts by adding four tildes(~) to the end of it. Cheers! DonIago (talk) 17:59, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Hey there, on one of the imdb message boards i found a copy of the e-mail that one of the special effects artists who worked on Event Horizon send to some fan of the movie who was asking about deleted scenes. I think that this e-mail could be viewed as reliable source but i wanted to ask you would something like that be O.K to add (because of the rules and stuff) and for permission to add it along with some more info about deleted footage in Event Horizon article before i do anything. Andrew Ryder (talk) 13:00, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay, I was out of of town and forgot to set an "out of office" message here. I don't think IMDb message boards are generally considered reliable (WP:RS/IMDb), but it may depend on the context. If this is a moot issue at this point, sorry I got back to you so late. If not, let me know, and if you can provide a link I'll try to look it over and offer my two cents. Cheers, and sorry for the delay. DonIago (talk) 20:00, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

List of films featuring time loops

I would appreciate some assistance when editing this article as wikipedia is a communal effort. Sources for that movie is everywhere, in the future please add a source instead of removing the film. If you can not find a source allow the editor a few days. Thanks. Valoem talk contrib 20:46, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

In my experience allowing editors a few days on the assumption that they'll eventually source an item leads to it being tagged and ultimately deleted in any case; I've concluded that it's more prudent to note an issue as soon as it's raised. Additionally, it seems reasonable to assume that you're more likely to have a source available at the time you add information than to assume you would necessarily have ready access to the same source at a later time. Cheers. DonIago (talk) 20:50, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
In the case of inexperienced editors such as IPs, assisting them in source adding could be helpful, fortunately, it does not apply in this case. I feel it would be more beneficial to this article's expansion going forward if we applied this mentality. Valoem talk contrib 20:57, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

List of fictional Elements

I can understand why you removed my entries for Star Wars and Star Trek entries into the list (no citation, only a link to another article). And I thanks you for that. Although I still fail to understand why you removed my entries such as Khorium, Elementium (which I intended to add an additional citation for from another book) and Octrion; but kept my entries such as Adamantite and Thaum (for example) which where citied from the same books as Octiron and Khorium for example. would be thankful for a swift reply. LeeRyeTheElementGuy (talk) 21:10, 24 February 2015 (UTC)Sincerely LeeRye

Hi LeeRye,
Firstly, a friendly note that new comments should generally be added to the bottom of Talk pages. Also, you can sign your posts by adding 4 tildes (~) to the end.
The sourced entries that I removed, unless I made a mistake (entirely possible!) were only sourced to things such as strategy guides for the games in which the substances appear; such sources do not establish significance because they are not truly independent. If other sources are available, you can retrieve the original text by viewing the page's edit history.
The items you list which I didn't remove I overlooked. That happens sometimes. :p
Hope this helps! I'll put off making any additional changes for the time-being. If you have any concerns regarding my rationale and don't feel satisfied by my response, you're welcome to raise the matter at the article's Talk page as well. Cheers! DonIago (talk) 20:43, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
OK thanks for clearing things up. I will clean up the page next time I'm on a private computer. LeeRyeTheElementGuy (talk) 21:10, 24 February 2015 (UTC)Regards LeeRye

Donnie Wahlberg

I just thought that that sentence on his work in New Kids on the Block looked "lonely" and had already been established in the introductory paragraph. Maybe you can fill up that section with more information.

Read critically. Besides the fact I grew up bordering the Lawrence school district and know people who went to school with him, it does say he grew up in Lawrence and the reference quotes the article in question... But I will spell it out for those that need it to be like that. Postcard Cathy (talk) 04:57, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

I don't see how the fact that he graduated from a local and presumably non-notable high school is significant, especially when the article evidently doesn't even name the school. Please make your case at the article's Talk page rather than edit-warring. Thank you. DonIago (talk) 05:51, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for reaching out to me regarding my edits to the plot summary of Lock Up (film). I am OK with the reversion, although I thought I was contributing constructively to the article in question. Two paragraphs in the plot had significant run-on sentences, so I corrected those and figured since I was already making edits, I'd reorganize the summary. I saw the movie a long time ago, and recently watched it again on iTunes, so it was fresh in my head. I concede that I didn't do a word count comparison between the version I was editing vs. the version I saved, but when I view the edit history, I see the difference was 574 bytes. If you consider the average word length being about 5 characters, my summary was about 115 words longer, which doesn't seem overly significant. I certainly don't want to get into edit-warring, but would certainly like a better understanding of why you felt that I added unnecessary detail. I didn't really add that much more detail; I just reorganized a lot of the information. As the article stands now, the third plot paragraph ends with this sentence: "Dallas offers to help Leone escape to warn Melissa but instead delivers Leone to the utility basement right into Drumgoole's hands where he finds out that Drumgoole wanted him to try to escape so he would receive a mandatory 10-year sentence for the second escape attempt and the inmate who was going to rape Melissa was just a corrupt prison guard called Mastrone who was part of the warden's scheme to set Leone up." It's a monster with no punctuation. The next paragraph ends with a sentence that's also a monster, although not quite as bad. Msawyer91 (talk) 17:25, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Right now the plot summary is 890 words, a clear violation of the guideline at WP:FILMPLOT which recommends 400-700. While I appreciate that your edits were constructive, right now the priority should be to condense the summary, not expand it. Hope this helps! If you feel this movie merits an exception from the guideline you're welcome to start a discussion at the article's Talk page, but I don't really think there's a good case for that. DonIago (talk) 19:58, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

Invitation to discuss a proposal of year by film release

You're invited to join a discussion here. It's about a proposal about an idea of having film by year articles made and produced by certain countries, such as [[2013 in films in United States of America]], [[2013 in films in England]] and such. BattleshipMan (talk) 06:53, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

I hope I made my speech about my reasons for my proposals on the Manual of Style/Film talk page well enough to make everyone understand. I'm not the best at speeches, I just hope it I did okay. BattleshipMan (talk) 03:08, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Children's novels about animals

I'd like to thank you for creating this category. I have been thinking about it myself as I've been populating the Novels about animals category and was uneasy about the imbalance. I'd also considered a category for novels about anthropomorphic animals – I'd be interested to hear what you think.

I wanted to let you know that I am taking Felix Salten's Bambi, a Life in the Woods back into Novels about animals – it was written for adults, as you can see from the article, and despite many adaptations, the original novel should not be classified as for children. Robina Fox (talk) 22:54, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

Sounds good to me! If anyone disagrees with your categorzation there's certainly room for discussion. :)
The anthropomorphic animals category sounds interesting, but I question whether there would be enough articles to make it really worth it...there may also be some conflict as to where the line is at which point the animal becomes anthropomorphized...though in the end it could come down to whether a source ever categorized it as such. For instance, there's probably a good argument that the characters in Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH are anthropomorphic, but one could argue that in Bambi the animals are anthropomorphized as well in that they behave in ways that, strictly speaking, real animals do not.
Anyway, glad you think my category wasn't entirely a waste of time, and I'm happy to weigh in on any further questions about this! DonIago (talk) 12:47, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Lawrence of Arabia (film)

You removed my additions because I didn't give references, but many of the interesting "facts" already there are given without references. Is there a double standard? Garfield Garfield

Hi Garfield,
Firstly, I believe you inadvertently placed your comment on my user page rather than my talk page initially. No big deal.
Secondly, you can sign your comments by adding four tildes (~) at the end. This is generally preferred to signing manually as it will also add a timestamp.
There's no double standard. When I see unsourced information being added I will tend to remove it immediately and leave a note for the editor asking that they provide references. In cases where the information has been in the article for some time I will tag it with Template:Citation needed or in another appropriate manner. If you look at the top of the film article you can see that the article was tagged for this issue in 2013. While how long unsourced information should be allowed to remain in an article is left to an editor's best judgment (and could theoretically be contested), I think after over a year you'd be well within your rights to remove unsourced information that you feel should be sourced. Depending on the circumstances though, I might recommend moving the information to the article's Talk page rather than outright deleting it, but that's a judgment call.
Hope this helps! DonIago (talk) 13:03, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
