Nationality on biographies

[edit]

Hi,

I notice that you keep making changes to people's nationalities that violate our Manual of Style for biographies. The specific guideline is WP:OPENPARA. In general, a subject should be described with a single nationality in the lead sentence. That nationality should be the nationality held at the time the subject became notable. Please note that WP:OPENPARA specifically states not to mention the country of birth when it is different than the previous. Therefore any article which has xxx-born violates our style guide; please do not continue to make this change to articles. Also expressions like "Irish-American", "British-Iranian", etc. are ambiguous: they tell us neither where the person was born nor their nationality at the time they became notable. In the real event of dual citizenship where both citizenships are notable, an "and" should be used between the two nationalities to make this clear. Hope this help you understand our rules for describing nationality. Skyerise (talk) 20:30, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm McGeddon. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Alien (franchise), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Khary Payton, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Georgia, Augusta and American. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hello, Dofhd. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Joe Vaux, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Joe Vaux to be deleted, please add a reference to the article.

Information icon Hello! Thank you for your recent contributions to Mountain Monsters. I did have one note for you. I am working on a maintenance project to clean up Category:Pages using infoboxes with thumbnail images. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks!! However, this is an encyclopedia and the articles are intended to be serious, so please don't make joke edits, as you did to J. K. Rowling. Readers looking for accurate information will not find them amusing.
