Cycad
[edit]Your additions to Cycad seem to be only about the Cycadales, and not about the entire Cycadopsida. The material might be more appropriately added to the Cycadales article. The cycad article should contain information that is relevant to both orders: the Cycadles and the Medullosales. --EncycloPetey (talk) 22:49, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks EncycloPetey, I, along with a partner, am editing this page for a class assignment. This is the first of many versions. We will consider your input in the future of this article.
Thanks again, Dmvasconcelos (talk) 22:54, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- If you intend to edit the Cycad page, instead of Cycadales, then your statements need to pertain to both orders of cycads, the Cycadales and Medullosales. Information about just one or the other would belong at the articles about those orders, instead of the general article about the entire group. --EncycloPetey (talk) 23:05, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- I have contacted @Ian (Wiki Ed): about this issue. I believe your instructor was unaware of the recent changes in cycad classification, and probably intended to assign an article more like Cycadales. I have suggested to Ian that a change in article choice would resolve this problem, and would make the content much easier to tackle. The general cycad article, because it relies more heavily on current taxonomic literature and on paleobotanical coverage, may be too challenging for the level of your course. --EncycloPetey (talk) 23:10, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- I understand your concern but the whole reason why we are going through this process is to judge our writing skills on the topic at hand. My instructor is actually my professor and intentionally assigned this article. It would be greatly appreciated if you left it alone for the time being until the proper edits can be made, both in class and through Wikipedia. Best Dmvasconcelos (talk) 23:51, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not the proper place for the kind of editing you are requesting. We do not leave things alone simply because an outside group wants to alter them for their own purposes. All edits on Wikipedia must meet certain community standards, and edits that do not meet those standards are removed or undone. I say again, I do not believe your professor truly understood what he was assigning, and assumed he was assigning an article with the scope of Cycadales instead. The definition of Cycadopsida has changed quite a lot in the past five years, and many people outside of the field will be as yet unaware that such a change has taken place. Even professors cannot keep up with every discovery in every aspect of every field in every course they teach. --EncycloPetey (talk) 01:14, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- Clearly, you're not my professor so I will take this up with HER and not you. Thanks. Dmvasconcelos (talk) 01:39, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- This sort of a response is entirely inappropriate. Contributing to Wikipedia must be collaborative. The fact that you're improving Wikipedia articles as part of a class assignment doesn't give you any special privileges. You've done the training modules explaining the nature of Wikipedia to you. Please review them. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 13:40, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- It wasn't meant to be inappropriate. It was meant to clarify that I am a student working on this and it is a learning experience. He's not being very collaborative by deleting all of my partner and I's work and leaving a comment that just says it shouldn't be there. Then blaming my professor(which he assumed the gender of) because of the mix up. I don't expect any special privileges at all especially because this is a public domain but when it's our job to improve the article and others are inhibiting our work, it's a bit frustrating. I will talk with my professor on further action. Dmvasconcelos (talk) 13:48, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- I would just like to apologize up front to both EncycloPetey and Ian. I think there was a misunderstanding. Someone previous to EncycloPetey had deleted all of my partner and I's work without an explanation and I thought that this was the same person. Now that I go back an reread the explanation, I understand more clearly about the conflict. I talked to my professor and cleared everything up. As for the page, my partner and I are going to find some more diverse information and fix the edits at hand. Again, I apologize immensely and hope that we can build on this.
