Given the ongoing MMA issues and for example Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/UFC 149: Aldo vs. Koch (2nd nomination) or Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/UFC 150 I don't think any MMA AfD is a good case for a NAC, can you please re-open it. Mtking (edits) 10:11, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

According to me none of the articles where were AFDed (the links you provided) were no deleted. In the discussion there is strong support to keep the article. Possibly you may have a look? Dipankan (Have a chat?) 10:13, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
UFC 149: Aldo vs. Koch was redirected and UFC 150 was deleted, NONE of the !vote keeps address the issues of the routine news coverage and lack of actual content on the event other than the statusbook reporting of results (WP:NOT). Mtking (edits) 10:19, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
WP:OTHERTHINGSEXIST Forget about it. Or if you want it, notify other users and let them come to this discussion. After that, on the consensus, I'll revert myself. Possibly that's all right? Dipankan (Have a chat?) 10:27, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I was more pointing to the rational given in the closes of the number of MMA SPA invalid arguments, I have asked that you undo your NAC and leave it for an Admin please. Mtking (edits) 10:36, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Get a admin out here, then you decide. Dipankan (Have a chat?) 10:41, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I will wait till the morning then take it to WP:DRV. Mtking (edits) 10:45, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine. Dipankan (Have a chat?) 10:46, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not an admin, but I know the MMA debates well enough to say that under no uncertain terms is any UFC event AfD uncontroversial enough for a NAC. The whole thing has flooded ANI for the last month (with two currently active), and resulted in two RfCs (one user related and one notability related). I am not going to comment as to if you were right or wrong with the close (I haven't really looked at it), however I think this is a case where we should be crossing our T's and dotting our lower case J's appropriately. --kelapstick(bainuu) 10:53, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Mtking won't stop until the article is deleted. Quite ridiculous. Gamezero05 21:58, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Eventually the result is keep. As I said before I knew that it was notable and a general consensus was there to keep the article. Now don't renominate the article again for deletion. Dipankan (Have a chat?) 15:26, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion review for UFC 145

An editor has asked for a deletion review of UFC 145. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Mtking (edits) 00:11, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Dipankan001. Thank you for your feedback at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled. I had, of course, read AUTOPAT, which says, "A suggested standard is the prior creation of 50 valid articles, not including redirects", as well as the requests page that says, "Check that you have created at least around 50 new articles, excluding redirects (you may wish to use use this tool) - rights will generally only be accorded with less in exceptional circumstances." I didn't take either of those to state hard-and-fast rule. Thanks again, and happy editing, Cnilep (talk) 00:01, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dipankan001. I've finished the copy edit you requested at the GOCE page. This is about all a copy editor can do, but the article isn't quite ready for GAN yet. A couple of sections (tagged) need bringing up to date, using sources that report historical facts rather than future plans; a couple of citations are needed and there are a few more tags. I'll keep it watchlisted for now, in case further efforts are needed from me. Best, --Stfg (talk) 14:49, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

2012 Yahoo! Voice hack

[edit]

Hi,

Just wanted to let you know your new article 2012 Yahoo! Voice hack needs a lot of work. For one thing you have identified the wrong Yahoo! product (the article should be named 2012 Yahoo! Voices hack). I hope you can fix this before this article becomes better known on the internet - Wikipeidia is known as a source of accurate information. Page Triage newsletter

[edit]

Hey all. Some quick but important updates on what we've been up to and what's coming up next :).

The curation toolbar, our Wikimedia-supported twinkle replacement. We're going to be deploying it, along with a pile of bugfixes, to wikipedia on 9 August. After a few days to check it doesn't make anything explode or die, we'll be sticking up a big notice and sending out an additional newsletter inviting people to test it out and give us feedback :). This will be followed by two office hours sessions - one on Tuesday the 14th of August at 19:00 UTC for all us Europeans, and one on Wednesday the 15th at 23:00 UTC for the East Coasters out there :). As always, these will be held in #wikimedia-office; drop me a note if you want to know how to easily get on IRC, or if you aren't able to attend but would like the logs.

I hope to see a lot of you there; it's going to be a big day for everyone involved, I think :). I'll have more notes after the deployment! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 20:07, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:IIT Delhi logo.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:IIT Delhi logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:47, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages newsletter

[edit]

Hey all :)

A couple of new things.

First, you'll note that all the project titles have now changed to the Page Curation prefix, rather than having the New Pages Feed prefix. This is because the overarching project name has changed to Page Curation; the feed is still known as New Pages Feed, and the Curation Toolbar is still the Curation Toolbar. Hopefully this will be the last namechange ;p.

On the subject of the Curation Toolbar (nice segue, Oliver!) - it's now deployed on Wikipedia. Just open up any article in the New Pages Feed and it should appear on the right. It's still a beta version - bugs are expected - and we've got a lot more work to do. But if you see something going wrong, or a feature missing, drop me a note or post on the project talkpage and I'll be happy to help :). We'll be holding two office hours sessions to discuss the tool and improvements to it; the first is at 19:00 UTC on 14 August, and the second at 23:00 on the 15th. Both will be in #wikimedia-office as always. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 15:07, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What is this?

[edit]

Hi I am Tamravidhir and I have question that what is this User:Dipankan001/Edit Count.js? What is this Edit Count.js? When replying please leave me a Tb template. Thank you --Tamravidhir(২০১২) 11:09, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Count.js? Hmm. That was a script for Wikipedia written by me using Java Script. .js refers to JavaScript. Edit Count.js, when you install the script, will direct you to Wikimedia Toolserver from where you can see your current edit count stats. If you wish to install it, click here, click on "Edit" and then write importScript('User:Dipankan001/Edit Count.js') and refresh your browser. Then, you're all set and next time you'll see a "Edit Count" Link appear in your Personal toolbar (just beside My Contributions). I have made many more useful apps for Wikipedia out of which Anand-1 is the current live API editing Wikipedia software I'm developing at the moment. Hope I made it clear. And for a short note, I'm from Bengal, too :) Dipankan (Have a chat?) 11:16, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well I have User:Tamravidhir/EditCounterOptIn.js..what's this now? --Tamravidhir(২০১২) 11:29, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't harm anyone, it's the basic MediaWiki settings. It's used by more than 10 people. You can safely install it. And, User:Tamravidhir/vector.js is the current Skin you're on. You have to edit there so that the script installs. Open up User:Tamravidhir/vector.js and write importScript('User:Dipankan001/Edit Count.js') And EditCounterOptIn.js is for the edit counter by Wikimedia, it's used by almost everyone. On Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Vidyasagar Setu, Kolkata, India you opposed saying "Chromatic noise". As far as I know chromatic means colour..but what do you mean by chromatic noise? Do you mean that it has some negativeness with the colours? --Tamravidhir(২০১২) 11:44, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Chromatic noise means over-illumination and high-levels of saturation. That makes a image nasty. Although, the work looks nice, but a inside, technical view reveals that it has flaws. Dipankan (Have a chat?) 11:50, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request for your assistance for The Wikipedia Library

[edit]

Hi! You signed up to be a helper at the Highbeam project page. As The Wikipedia Library expands, I am seeking some assistants who can collaborate on project administration by spending a few hours now and then working on a variety of tasks.

Right now I am looking for help on the Questia round 1 signups, reviewing editors' applications to check for edit count (1000), account history (1 year), and current blocks. Note, there is no subjective judgment required, just a factual criteria-check. Here's what you can do:

  1. Sign up for a section of 50 applications at this page
  2. The first check involves using Popups (enabled in Special:Preferences -> click "Gadgets", check the box to enable Popups, then click save).
  3. By hovering over a username on the applications list, Popups will show the edit count, age of account, and whether the editor is blocked on English Wikipedia
  4. If an editor is blocked, list their name at this page
  5. If an editor does not meet the 1-year/1000 editor check using Popups, open their user talk page in a new tab in your browser.
  6. Then, you then need to check if the editor meets the criteria on another Wikipedia language project.
  7. To check global contributions use the Global Contributions surveyor] on toolserver.
  8. Toolserver is a bit slow so I find it helpful to have 3 tabs running simultaneously.
  9. Scroll down to the bottom of the toolserver results to see if 1000 edits or 1-year age of accounted are met at another project. You can also see if the editor is blocked on another project.
  10. If neither Popups nor the Global Contribution Surveyor met the criteria, then list their name at [less than 1000 edits, or less than 1 year old account|this page]
  11. Mark your section {{done}} at this page

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks so much! -- User:Ocaasi 19:50, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page Curation update

[edit]

Hey all :). We've just deployed another set of features for Page Curation. They include flyouts from the icons in Special:NewPagesFeed, showing who reviewed an article and when, a listing of this in the "info" flyout, and a general re-jigging of the info flyout - we've also fixed the weird bug with page_titles_having_underscores_instead_of_spaces in messages sent to talkpages, and introduced CSD logging! As always, these features will need some work - but any feedback would be most welcome.

Hi Dipankan001. I'm leaving you this message because you have previously been involved as an adopter with Wikipedia's Adopt-a-user program. A clean-up of this program is currently underway, and as part of the process I am trying to find out who is and isn't still interested in remaining an adopter.

If you would prefer not to be part of the adoption program anymore, you need do nothing; when the overhaul of the project is completed your name will be removed from the list of active adopters. However, if you have current adoptees, an active adoption school or an interest in adopting in the near future, then please let us know by signing here.

If you want to remain in the project and can currently take on more adoptees, there is a serious backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user; it would be enormously helpful if you could take on one or two of the users there. Please do keep an eye on the project for upcoming changes, we could use your opinions and your help! Yunshui  09:27, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this was a good choice for how to close this, especially for a non-admin closure. If an AfD has attracted no comments after only a seven-day period, the appropriate thing to do is to relist it. —David Eppstein (talk) 17:58, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

 Done

Hi mate, just wondering if you might reconsider closing the above and perhaps relisting instead. The AfD has only has two editors for deletion (just me and the original nom) and two against (the article creator, an WP:SPA and an unintentional IP sock). The article still doesn't really have any reliable sources (the authors have agreed as much) but those responsible for the article are working on determining if any exist. Any chance we could encourage some uninvolved editors to have their say before we close it? If we close it now, my concern is we'll see it up for AfD again very soon due to the rather weak "consensus". Cheers, Stalwart111 (talk) 09:45, 24 September 2012 (UTC).[reply]

Your close, with no rationale added, appears to be based on numbers as opposed to strength of argument. I am therefore asking that you reverse the close and relist the discussion. Thanks. Beeblebrox (talk) 23:06, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Have to agree with the above. Well done for boldly doing this, but I would personally only do a non admin closure myself if either a) Everyone had !voted keep and the discussion stalled for a few days or b) An admin speedy deleted the article and forgot to close the AfD themselves. Any AfD without a consistent one way !vote (which this doesn't have) should be left. --Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:19, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks and will take care of it! @DipankanUpgraded! Tag me! 10:18, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
After reviewing your editor review and previous RFA, along with the thread directly above this one, it is clear this is a long term issue that you were o already well aware of. I'm therefore going to have to ask you to please stop closing deletion discussions as it seems clear you are still not ready to do so. Beeblebrox (talk) 17:12, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And after seeing how you badly the relisting was bungled, which I have now fixed, I am even more convinced that this is not an area you should be working in. All you did was add the relist tag to the still-closed discussion. You did nothing to actually correct the situation. I've just had to undo your close and then restore the relist notice, undo your removal of the afd tag from the article, and remove the closed afd notice from the article's talk page. These are all things you should have known to do yourself but you clearly did not. please indicate whether or not you are willing to voluntarily restrict yourself from this area and for how long you plan to do so. Beeblebrox (talk) 17:28, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page Curation newsletter

Hey Dipankan001. This will be, if not our final newsletter, one of the final ones :). After months of churning away at this project, our final version (apart from a few tweaks and bugfixes) is now live. Changes between this and the last release include deletion tag logging, a centralised log, and fixes to things like edit summaries.

Hopefully you like what we've done with the place; suggestions for future work on it, complaints and bugs to the usual address :). We'll be holding a couple of office hours sessions, which I hope you'll all attend. Many thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 11:09, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

CVUA

[edit]

Hi Dipankan001. I'm leaving you this message because you have previously been involved with Counter-Vandalism, and may still be. The Academy project has been restructured, placing responsibility for it on the trainers themselves and as part of the process I am trying to find out who is still interested in remaining as active trainers.

In future, there will be no clerking or coordination, so If you are still active and can respond to requests from students within around 48 hours, you need do nothing until a new student contacts you on your talk page. Nevertheless, if your status changes, please update your entry on the table of active trainers at the new WP:CVUA page. If you no longer have sufficient time to commit to the CV training project, that's fine, but please remove your name from the active list. While on your travels however, should you come across users who are having a hard time with their reverts, don't hesitate to send them a link to the CVUA. Thanks, and happy editing! WP:TFL reboot

[edit]

Hello Dipankan001. I just wanted to thank you for selecting a submission for TFL. As you are aware, recently, at WT:TFL, there's been a lot of concern that the system has become stuck, that new nominations are being discouraged by the lengthy queues in place, and that my selections for TFL haven't been diverse enough. To that end, I've rebooted the system. In short, we will no longer have a submissions and prep page, just a submissions page. We'll limit the number of submissions to ten. The community can comment on, support, oppose etc the inclusion of any of the submissions. Directors will have final say on what goes on main page when. I've deleted all selections made from mid-October to Christmas to give others the opportunity to get involved. I'm sorry that your efforts now have been, well, delayed I guess, and hope that you'll continue to support our process, as we try to improve and ultimately get more main page exposure. Feel free to ping me about any of this. Thanks again. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:29, 27 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Did you know...

[edit]

...that Template:Did you know nominations/Titagarh fire accident? TheSpecialUser TSU 06:04, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Titagarh fire accident has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

There are hundreds of structure fires around the world every day. With no injuries and a comment right in the article that there is not a lawsuit forthcoming, this seems like a very routine event subject to routine coverage. probably more suited to Wikinews than Wikipedia.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Page Curation newsletter - closing up!

[edit]

Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. If you've got ideas for features Page Curation doesn't currently have, stick them here.

Again, it's been an honour. Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 12:15, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
