Welcome!
[edit]Call me, beep me, if you wanna reach me!
Hi Dendenn! I am teaching a Queer Theory course at UTM this fall, and I am asking the students to do wikipedia writing and editing for their major project. I need a campus ambassador or an on-line ambassador to help out. Is there any way you might be available? Do let me know! Best, Elspeth Brown Brownels (talk) 21:50, 22 September 2014 (UTC)brownels

CCT110 2013 Help and Questions
[edit]Hello Denille! I have a question regarding citations. Can we source a statement 2 times to 2 different articles? Also, how do I refer two statements to the same reference? thanks Chanke31 (talk) 21:35, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
Hello Denille! I wanted to ask if you could provide me with feedback on my stub. I would also like to know how to add pictures. It is in my sandbox. Thank you! --Marta Bielak (talk) 20:35, 12 August 2013 (UTC)user:Marta Bielak
Hello! Is there any way we can upload pictures to Wikipedia safely if they are not our own??
Thanks !
Cmcgill03 (talk) 15:18, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- Response: Hi Cmcgill03. To add photos to your page, you need to go to Wikipedia Commons and upload it from there. You need to check to see if the image has any copyright restrictions and if it can be used on an open source website (simply checking whatever source you got it from will state this). Here's some information on how to do all of this: Uploading Photos. If you have time, it would be best to make an appointment with either Monico or myself to help you through it so that there are no infringement issues. Deneille Rochelle (talk) 16:19, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- Response: Thank you, an appointment would be much appreciated at your first available time in order to make sure I upload correctly. Please let me know when you are able to meet and I will be available. Thank you Deneille Rochelle. Cmcgill03 (talk) 00:21, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- No problem! Is your tutorial on Tuesday or Thursday? If it is on Tuesday (and that is when the assignment is due) I would say to experiment with uploading it yourself this weekend and I'll keep an eye on your page, and then you can come in on Monday and we'll make sure that it has been uploaded correctly. My only free times this Monday are from 11-11:30 am or anytime after 4 pm Deneille Rochelle (talk) 00:48, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you! Will you be in your office (CCT3110) around 4:15pm today? If so I will see you there! Thank you for your help. Cmcgill03 (talk) 15:17, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
Hi! I wanted to book an appointment with you on Monday, April 1st 2013. Please let me know if there is any space avaialable. Thank you Neha Siddiqui Siddine (talk) 02:21, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Siddine. I can meet with you anytime from 5-7 on Monday (unless you want to come in earlier than 11:30). But I am not accepting appointments from user names that have not been activated. To change this with your own, click "Create" on your user page and write something about yourself, or even a simple "hello" to activate it. You will know that it's activated when your user name appears blue instead of red. Deneille Rochelle (talk) 02:28, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
- I have activated my user and I would like to come see you at 5pm on Monday if that is still available. I appreciate your quick response. Thank you.
Siddine (talk) 04:22, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
- Of course! Just come by between any of the times that I listed above. I'll be in CCT room 3110 Deneille Rochelle (talk) 11:51, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
Hi. I want to book an appointment with you tomorrow (Wednesday). Could I just drop by tomorrow (Wednesday)at the time of your office hour in your office (CCT3110)? Thanks for that! Tiffany1ting (talk) 01:33, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Tiffany. We are not taking appointments from anyone Wednesday, as we had mentioned in lecture that appointments should not be made for the day before the assignment is due. If it an emergency, you can email me (and if it seems necessary I will allow you to come in) or post your question to the discussion tab on the course page. Deneille Rochelle (talk) 01:36, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
Hi, I have a question want to ask. We are supposed to hand in to lecture a hard copy package containing screenshots of the state of the chosen article "before" and "after" the edits, highlighted or otherwise annotated to clearly show the changes that were made, as well as a copy of our sandbox. So, what's the meaning of the copy of our sandbox? We just need to provide the page of our sandbox or we need to provide the copy of our sandbox that with detailed codes? Then, the copy of sandbox should be identical as the copy of the chosen article "after"? Tiffany1ting (talk) 14:18, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
CCT110 2014 Help and Questions
[edit]Hello Denille! I wanted to ask how you save a page, without publishing it, in your sandbox? I only see save and post or preview. Also, if you want to link to another page is it,
This is an example of a template. For help with templates, see Help:Template. |
? Because I did that and when i clicked preview in the preview it went red and said the page does not exist. Thanks so much! MirelaSab (talk) 02:47, 30 March 2014 (UTC)MirelaSab
- Hi MirelaSab, to link to another page use the square brackets, not the curly brackets on each side [[ ]]. The page will have to be published to be saved, but that's the benefit of putting it in your sandbox as opposed to in the mainspace so that it's not an "official" page. You can experiment and make mistakes there without having to worry. What's the reason for not wanting it to be public? Deneille Rochelle (talk) 13:58, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Denille! I just am not done so I didn't want to publish it, I'm still in the editing phase. Thanks for the help! MirelaSab (talk) 21:48, 30 March 2014 (UTC)MirelaSab
- One more thing Denille, if I want to use information from the previous stub in my new one, is that allowed? Because there is some information in the previous stub that I find valuable. The one problem is, there is a reference in the information that has no link (it is probably a book or something), it only says the name of the author and the chapter he found the information in. How should I go about that then? Thanks MirelaSab (talk) 22:56, 30 March 2014 (UTC)MirelaSab
- Hello again, MirelaSab! Publishing it is okay even if you're not finished editing it. It just allows you to save your work. You can go back in and keep editing and saving/publishing as much as you want up until it is due. And yes! You can use the information that is already there, you don't have to remove it. If the reference is appropriate and hasn't been flagged as otherwise, the one that is there should suffice for you to keep there. If the reference is not good enough, you should remove it to help improve the credibility of the information on your stub. Try searching the phrase or references listed on Google and see if you can find a complete reference. Hope this helps. Deneille Rochelle (talk) 23:45, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

- Thank you so much!! How do we keep citing the same reference then? I saw that you're supposed to hit ref and then use name= but when I do that the rest of my writing after that disappears! Thanks again so much!:) MirelaSab (talk) 01:18, 31 March 2014 (UTC)MirelaSab
- No problem! To keep citing the same reference, the best thing to do to learn how is to find a good article where they do the same and copy their code (I recently had to search something on Media literacy, there's an example of it there for the first reference). Click "edit" on the page and look at where reference 1 appears many times. Copy the code they use there and paste it in to your article, replacing their citation with yours but keeping the code. Let me know if that works! I'll drop in on your sandbox in a few hours to see if you've got it. Deneille Rochelle (talk) 19:46, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Deneille, I can't get it to work…I'm sorry. In my last paragraph I use the same resource and I can't do it. I can't even make my references match up to their appearance in my article. Thank you so much. MirelaSab (talk) 22:56, 31 March 2014 (UTC)MirelaSab
Hello, Deneille. I'm doing a company and I'm wondering if it's alright to use their official webpage as a source. Also, how do I know if it's okay to use the company's logo? I'm writing a history section and I'm just wondering how the proper format should be. I saw some articles that has a small paragraph for each year mentioned and another that has a full large chunk of paragraph that combines all the years involved. (Thanks again. sorry for asking too much questions) Candicedelacruz (talk) 01:47, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, Candicedelacruz. I'll try to answer all of your questions as best as I can! 1) You can definitely use their page as a source but make sure to avoid any content that may sound "promotional" as this would create a bias. You can use their site for things like including what they do, who is involved, and structural facts like that. Don't include anything that sounds like an advertisement. 2) In terms of using the logo, attempt to search for the image on the Wikimedia Commons. If it isn't already there, you will need to ask the company for the creative rights to use their image, as all company logos are copyrighted. 3) In terms of the history of the company, try to stick to things that you are sure of - attempt to find other sources besides their website that can confirm events (if you can't find any, their website will suffice but should not be your only source). Those articles you found should be good to use! I'll keep an eye out on your sandbox and give you some feedback if I find anything you can improve on. Hope this helps! Deneille Rochelle (talk) 19:46, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- I see, thanks. But, for the format..let's say I list 2000 then 2001 then 2002. Some wikipages have 1 paragraph (or just a line) to describe each 2000, 2001, 2002. but other wikipages combine 2000, 2001, and 2002 in one paragraph. It confuses me of how the format should be properly done.Candicedelacruz (talk) 20:12, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
Hello, Deneille! My stub has a problem: It is about two things with the same name. I wanted to write the article about one of those two things and maybe leave a stub for the other one, and the disambiguation article. Would that be ok? Thank you! Antonio Rivero (talk) 13:01, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Antonio! I'm a little unsure of what you mean, do you want to remove the disambiguation as part of your assignment? I would choose one of the two listed, expand and improve it as much as you can, and then in your report you can include that you attempted to create a difference between the articles by improving the one you worked on. In short, don't work on two stubs! Just one! It will make your life easier. Did this help? Let me know if I've misunderstood the question. Deneille Rochelle (talk) 19:46, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- First of all, thanks for the help! My stub is currently in wikipedia as a single article, but the user who wrote it put information about two different topics with the same name on it, so I wanted to write about one of those and solve the amibguity problem, probably by creating a dismabugation page(I'm not sure how to do that). Antonio Rivero (talk) 10:40, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
Hello again, Deneille. Will you look at my sandbox and give me some feedback please? I created the History and Products sections. I also added a information box on the upper right corner. Thanks again Candicedelacruz (talk) 02:30, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
Hi Deneille. I'm trying to do the repeating references but it just isn't working at all. I've tried a million times. I don't know what to do! Thanks, MirelaSab (talk) 01:25, 2 April 2014 (UTC)MirelaSab
--- Hi Deneille, I have got a message on my talk page a while ago, saying that my article contains content from web sources: Potential copyright violations[edit] Youir recent additions to Water use include significant sections of text that have been copied verbatim from web sources including this and this. This is a direct infringement of the copyright of the source web-sites and is not acceptable in Wikipedia. Please also have a look at the rules on close paraphrasing. I have left your text for the moment as I understand that this is part of an educational project, but I would ask you to urgently modify your contribution to bring it into compliance with Wikipedia rules and policies. Thanks Velella Velella Talk 11:34, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
However, I have gone through those parts that was suggested by Velella, they are all the existing content made by others. I wonder if I should delete or change the content made by others, or just leave the message? Can I change the content on my behalf? I have submitted the wikipedia edits already, do I have to add this back if I change the content? I am really worried right now, will my article be deleted?
Thank you for you kind consideration :) Hochingli (talk) 07:16, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

Support a History course at UofT-Mississauga?
[edit]Hi, Deneille! A new instructor (User:Brownels) on your campus is planning to teach this course about Queer Theory. Would you possibly be available to meet with her and her students this term?
