"Education Program talk:University of Toronto Mississauga/Queer Theory (Fall 2014)"
[edit]You have created "Education Program talk:University of Toronto Mississauga/Queer Theory (Fall 2014)". The title is in the form something colon something, but because the part before the colon isn't one of a small number of words or combinations (such as "User" and "User talk"), Wikipedia treats this as an article. But obviously it isn't an article.
I propose to move this somewhere whose name starts either "User:Brownels" or "User talk:Brownels"; for example, "User:Brownels:Education Program talk:University of Toronto Mississauga/Queer Theory (Fall 2014)". Which name would you like? -- Hoary (talk) 12:44, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
Hi Hoary--thanks. I am still learning. Either works for me! Brownels (talk) 13:30, 23 September 2014 (UTC)brownels
- Good, you're still learning. By contrast, it seems that I'm not: my brain is "fossilized". Yes, I'm embarrassed to realize this morning that there are indeed "Education Program" and "Education Program talk" namespaces (as these things are termed hereabouts); your use of "Education Program talk" seems perfectly fine. Sorry about the false alarm. (NB as of a couple of minutes ago, no page in en:Wikipedia (beside this one) was linking to "Education Program talk:University of Toronto Mississauga/Queer Theory (Fall 2014)", so your students would be unlikely to encounter it once they are within Wikipedia.) -- Hoary (talk) 23:57, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

Change in your user rights
[edit]Your Wikipedia account was previously granted a user right called "course instructor" by the Wiki Education Foundation. That right enabled you to create a course page through the EducationProgram MediaWiki extension. Starting in fall 2015, the Wiki Education Foundation has discontinued its use of this extension. Going forward, users should create course pages through the Wiki Education Foundation website. That application is more user-friendly, and any content is automatically mirrored to Wikipedia. To prevent confusion, we'll be removing your "course instructor" user right, as it is not needed with the new system. This is simply a notification of the technical change to your account. No action is needed from you at this time.
If you plan on teaching with Wikipedia for the fall 2015 term, please email me (helainewikiedu.org) for instructions how to create your next course page using our new system. --Helaine (Wiki Ed) (talk), sent by MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:34, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for June 1
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited St. Michael's College, Toronto, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Michael Lynch (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

[edit]Hello, I'm Waxworker. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Troubling the Line, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Waxworker (talk) 15:13, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know, Waxworker. I was wondering. I'll do that. The sources are archival ones. Best, brownels. Brownels (talk) 12:46, 30 July 2022 (UTC)
Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Brownels! Your additions to OutHistory have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, it's important to understand and adhere to guidelines about using information from sources to prevent copyright and plagiarism issues. Here are the key points:
- Limited quotation: You may only copy or translate a small portion of a source. Any direct quotations must be enclosed in double quotation marks (") and properly cited using an inline citation. More information is available on the non-free content page. To learn how to cite a source, see Help:Referencing for beginners.
- Paraphrasing: Beyond limited quotations, you are required to put all information in your own words. Following the source's wording too closely can lead to copyright issues and is not permitted; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when paraphrasing, you must still cite your sources as appropriate.
- Image use guidelines: In most scenarios, only freely licensed or public domain images may be used and these should be uploaded to our sister project, Wikimedia Commons. In some scenarios, non-freely copyrighted content can be used if they meet all ten of our non-free content criteria; Wikipedia:Plain and simple non-free content guide may help with determining a file's eligibility.
- Copyrighted material donation: If you hold the copyright to the content you want to copy, or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license the text for publication here. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Copying and translation within Wikipedia: Wikipedia articles can be copied or translated, however they must have proper attribution in accordance with Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. For translation, see Help:Translation § License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Persistent failure to comply may result in being blocked from editing. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. - Hi! thanks for this feedback. However I don't know that you think I've written that is not properly attributed etc. Is there a way for me to see this? I thought I had done a decent job in this arena. Best, E Brownels (talk) 17:39, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
