Diadophus regalis

hi dawson,

do you have any idea what subspecies this may be? thanks :) --Sarefo 21:55, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Assuming it actually came from northern California as the image comment says, my guess would be a D. p. occidentalis, but it could possibly also be a D. p. pulchellus. The two subspecies share range and intergrade, so it can be hard to tell them apart unless you know exactly where it came from. -Dawson 20:42, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Bakersfield High School.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Bakersfield High School.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Zedla (talk) 05:14, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Typo redirect Sistrurus catetanus

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Sistrurus catetanus, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Sistrurus catetanus is a redirect page resulting from an implausible typo (CSD R3).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Sistrurus catetanus, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 23:01, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Dawson! What an interesting bot. I was the person who requested this delete, but I did so because this name is misspelled: catetanus should be catetnaus. It's also not mentioned as a synonym. Cheers, --Jwinius (talk) 00:45, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Lamborghini_Concept_S.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Lamborghini_Concept_S.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Speedy deletion of Image:Jeremy Wright.jpg

A tag has been placed on Image:Jeremy Wright.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Jeremy Wright.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Gary King (talk) 03:50, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Boidae cleanup

Hi Dawson, Good to see you're still around. Thanks very much for your support regarding the Calabar Python article move. After receiving some criticism for the way I moved many of the python articles last year, I wanted to do things by the book this time with the Boidae section. It's less stressful, but it certainly requires more patience.

Wanting to do a thorough job, however, I ran into this page -- Sand boa -- the other day. Apparently, you created it yourself back in February 2006. To avoid repeating information found elsewhere, would you be opposed to the idea of splitting it up and merging its contents with Erycinae, Eryx and Gongylophis? I figure sand boa should then make an effective disambiguation page. Cheers, --Jwinius (talk) 11:04, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

You'll get no complaints from me at all about it. -Dawson (talk) 17:12, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Dungeon Magazine Cover.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please re-add your username as well as your area of expertise at our list of participants if you plan to stay active in this Wikiproject. Also, a discussion is going on regarding the standardization of taxonomy in lizard articles, located in this section. We'd like to have some more voices in this matter. Proposed deletion of AMÍ Cat

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article AMÍ Cat, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Appears to be a non-notable product. No significant independent coverage indicated in the article and none found from Google, Google news, Google Books, Google Scholar.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Orphaned non-free media (File:AMI Cat.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:AMI Cat.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:04, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

The first round of the contest may not start until September 1st-unless a large number of editors signup and are ready to compete immediately! Since this contest is just beginning, please give feedback here, or let me know what you think on my talkpage. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 00:06, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:House of Freaks Tantilla.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:House of Freaks Tantilla.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 06:43, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

The article Contemporary Herpetology has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable electronic journal. Does not meet WP:Notability (academic journals).

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Crusio (talk) 06:48, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Dawson! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot notifying you on behalf of the the unreferenced biographies team that 2 of the articles that you created are currently tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 50 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Katie Richmond - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Oliver Winterbottom - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Thanks!--DASHBot (talk) 07:46, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

The article Joy Dawson has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not Notable. See Wikipedia:Notability#Self-promotion_and_indiscriminate_publicity. Also: No reliable sources. Subject or someone with the same family name may have created this biography.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. GeorgeLouis (talk) 23:12, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Science lovers wanted!

Science lovers wanted!
Hi! I'm serving as the wikipedian-in-residence at the Smithsonian Institution Archives until June! One of my goals as resident, is to work with Wikipedians and staff to improve content on Wikipedia about people who have collections held in the Archives - most of these are scientists who held roles within the Smithsonian and/or federal government. I thought you might like to participate since you are interested in the sciences! Sign up to participate here and dive into articles needing expansion and creation on our to-do list. Feel free to make a request for images or materials at the request page, and of course, if you share your successes at the outcomes page you will receive the SIA barnstar! Thanks for your interest, and I look forward to your participation! Sarah (talk) 19:55, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Slender Glass Lizard picture

Hi,

The slender glass lizard picture you contributed is actually not an ophisaurus I don't believe. The slender looks a lot like the eastern glass lizard. I think your picture is probably a Russian legless lizard. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Millmoss27 (talkcontribs) 14:20, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

Photo usage

Hi, I've been working on a small game built around animal quizzes and I wanted to let you know I've used one of your pictures.

I found your picture here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Eunectes_murinus2.jpg

And I attributed the picture like this: LA Dawson with this link: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Dawson and also added a link to the license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5/deed.en

I hope you're happy with it, please let me know if this is not the case. You can find the game here: http://apps.facebook.com/animalalbum

Regards, Garfunkel Jansen

P.S. Thanks for taking the picture and making it available. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Garfunkel Jansen (talkcontribs) 22:17, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
