Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Davood Roostaei, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited appears to be an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page. If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to it, please propose the changes on its talk page.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Hello, Thank you for your message! I’m not Davood Roostaei. I am passionate about contemporary art and I like to deeply research and study some unique artists. I wanted to create a proper biography page for the famous and well achieved painter Davood Roostaei as I happen to have a good amount of knowledge on him and his work and I noticed he doesn’t have a proper wiki page yet. I did the writing based on research and using a variety of references as well as my own knowledge. However, because it was my first time using Wikipedia I thought I needed to create the account under the name of Davood Roostaei so it would get published under the proper name. But if this causes a problem I can certainly change my user name if you advise me on how to change the username. It was a misunderstanding on my part I believe. But this is not a biography about me, this is on the artist Davood Roostaei. And the article/biography page I have created on Davood Roostaei is well written based on facts and I would like it to get published as his Wikipedia page. I would appreciate your help to get this done. Best Regards, Jeff Davood Roostaei (talk) 01:26, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Davood Roostaei, don't worry, it's a common mistake for new users to think their username needs to be the name of the article they want to write. To avoid any confusion, I'd recommend you go ahead and change your username - just go to Wikipedia:Changing_username/Simple and file a request there. creffett (talk) 02:26, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. What I have written is a biography of Davood Roostaei which I would like to get published. But I am not Davood Roostaei. So once I change my username will the article/biography I have written get published on Wikipedia? Thank you Davood Roostaei (talk) 02:38, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I’ve beeb using this account under the name Davood Roostaei, and I’ve requested a name change to Jeff Nicolas774. I have a darft Dave’s under this account I believe which I would like to publish. Thank you Davood Roostaei (talk) 03:20, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jeff Nicolas774,
Do I understand correctly that you have no connection to Passionate Collector?
Best regards,
~ ToBeFree (talk) 03:22, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Passionate collector was an account I had made, but then I chose to use this account under Davood Roostaei as I thought I needed the username to be the same as the title of my article. So passionate collector should be a defunct account as I have my draft saved under this account now. And I have just requested a username change to Jeff Nicolas774 for this account. Thank you and sorry for the confusion Davood Roostaei (talk) 03:25, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

All right, Jeff Nicolas774. No worries. I'll mark the other account as "abandoned"; please don't login as Passionate Collector in the future. A global renamer will probably soon rename the account you are currently using. To login to Wikipedia in the future, you will need to enter the new name. Thanks and best regards,
~ ToBeFree (talk) 03:28, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! When will the name change happen? I have a draft in this account which I would like to have published. Thank you Davood Roostaei (talk) 03:33, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Thank you for your comment! The subject of this article, “ Davood Roostaei” is worthy of notice and significant, and I believe it deserves attention within Wikipedia. Davood Roostaei is a notable individual and if you search his name on google you will find out he has had a long and successful career as an artist and has been widely recognized internationally over the past nearly 40 years. However, I do understand your concern with the references. A number of the references in this article are based on older publications which some of them may not be found online. Another main source of reference has also been the book titled, “ Davood Roostaei and the Manifesto of Cryptorealism”, a book published in 2007. All references I have added are reliable secondary sources which I found. But I can certainly add more references to the list, and I will try to find a number of references which can be found easier online. Thank you for your help! Best Regards, Jeff Jeff Nicolas774 (talk) 22:05, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Removing AFC comments

[edit]

Do not remove AFC comments, as you did twice in a row recently. They are there to help reviewers assess articles.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 12:24, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I did not remove. I just kept on editing my draft. I did not touch the comment you left Jeff Nicolas774 (talk) 20:13, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You might not have intended to, but you did remove a comment, as this diff shows [1]. Theroadislong (talk) 20:17, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oh I see. Well I just usually try to find the very last version of my draft then I continue editing it from there. I do appreciate your help and comments as I find them very helpful. So thank you Jeff Nicolas774 (talk) 20:20, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jeff Nicolas774, I have dealt with hundreds of articles on artists and I have to tell you, perhaps in the interest of saving time, he does not seem to be notable enough for an article. To be notable enough for us to publish the article, there have to be independent sources. The Pashmin Gallery, eBay, Artprice, abebooks.com sources and the sources written by or published by him are of no value towards notability and need to be removed. The article is also about 90% original research (has to go), and mentions Cryptorealism a lot, which is a neologism that no one but the subject seems to use. You are welcome to try to bring the article up to snuff, but I do not see independent sources that establish his notability. If you do try, you would be much more successful by trying a ten or twenty line article with five real sources than with the enormous unsourced version that now exists. Just some advice.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 20:37, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Theroadislong, so is the article progressing in the right direction so far? Thank you Jeff Nicolas774 (talk) 20:37, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi thatmontrealllp, thank you for your advice. I understand where you’re coming from. I’ll be removing some of the sources that are not perhaps as solid as wiki likes and I’ll be adding some better sources and I’ll shorten the writing and make it a shorter article. Best Regards, Jeff Jeff Nicolas774 (talk) 20:41, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I used artprice just to refer to the list of some exhibitions he had, I referred to some books which were written about him and I cited them like that. And I referred to Pashmin art gallery site to find more exhibition lists and to also find some independent magazines such as IN, MUT, and GALA magazine which had put out articles on him, some of which are hard to find online because they were from the 1990’s and I noticed that Pashmin gallery had a number of the visible under their press section which I could refer to and use. But all of those magazines are independent sources.. I also referred to some biographical videos about him which I included in my sources section. I then also found other news articles which I read to gather some information from which I also put in my sources section. However, I understand some of them are not the New York Times , but they are still independent sources which I had referred to. But I’m still in the process of finding more independent sources on him which I will add to my sources list and to my inline citations. I will also take your advice and make my article shorter. I already chopped some of the introduction off last night, but I’ll make it shorter with better sources. Jeff Nicolas774 (talk) 20:57, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the comment! I understand what you are saying. I'm just in the process of adding some more sources, and I will re-read the article again and I will make sure to remove any lines that may not have been as popularly cited in secondary sources. I am thinking of making it still abit shorter and removing some more lines where I see possible. Thank you so much for your help! You are incredibly helpful, it is much appreciated.

Stop removing AFC comments (3rd warning)

[edit]

As mentioned and warned above, please stop removing AFC comments as you did here, again. You will likely be blocked form editing if you do it again. ThatMontrealIP (talk) 04:31, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ThatMontreal!

Im sorry but I did not remove anything. The only thing I noticed was that my exhibitions and public collections were gone then I thought I had deleted them accidentally and I just sent a message to Theroadislong on his page to clarify as I was not sure what happened there. But I have been very closely following the advice of both of you so far and I appreciate all your comments and advice as it has been very helpful. What did I remove? I'm sorry but I'm still getting used to and learning the edit page so I apologize if I have deleted anything again by accident.

The edit is logged above. Stop doing that. It is considered to be disruptive editing. ThatMontrealIP (talk) 04:42, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've just noticed that you have done it three times, so you have been amply warned. We are not here for promotion of non-notable subjects, and removing comments is not going to make your subject notable. (For the record: the first time you removed comments, second time, third time.)ThatMontrealIP (talk) 04:49, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I see what you mean. I'm sorry non were intentional, I'm still learning the editing page so I'm sorry if some has been disruptive editing. I wil make sure It does not happen again so there are no confusions. I appreciate your understanding.

I just looked under my history and I noticed you had removed my exhibitions and public collections list. If you prefer these sections to not be included I understand. I just edited a last draft. Please see the current one and make sure it is the right one. Thank you

Also please note that I did not remove your comments on purpose or to make my subject notable. I have found your comments very useful so far and I have followed all your suggestions very closely and carefully. I have made my article much shorter as you suggested with more solid references and I am still in the process of adding more references. And I'm not here to promote anything.. Roostaei is a notable artist and I am just trying to put together an informative wiki page with reliable references for him. I have always been passionate about fine contemporary art and artists and I have experience writing about different artists. However, this has been my first try with Wikipedia and I very much appreciate all your help and comments as I'm still learning my way around with Wiki. So again, all your time and help is appreciated. I will continue to edit as closely as possible with your suggestions. The article is significantly shorter now.

Unexplained removal of content

[edit]

With this edit [2] you appear to have reverted the helpful edits of User:ThatMontrealIP without explanation? Theroadislong (talk) 11:09, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that the reason my exhibitions and public collections list were taken out was because there were not any references. If you now look at my most recent edit you will notice that I brought the exhibitions and public collections back, however I have now added references to them. I also added a number of other secondary reliable sources to my most recent draft as well. Sorry I did not know I needed to make an explanation. Jeff Nicolas774 (talk) 11:18, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have added some more solid sources to my article. What do you think so far? Btw thank you for being so helpful always. Jeff Nicolas774 (talk) 11:22, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
