Hello, I'm Yungli0n. I noticed that you removed topically-relevant content from List of electronic color code mnemonics. However, Wikipedia is not censored. Please do not remove or censor information that directly relates to the subject of the article. If the content in question involves images, you have the option to configure Wikipedia to hide images that you may find offensive. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Follow up on List of electronic color code mnemonics
[edit]Hey again. I really appreciate you taking the time to do your due diligence and read up on Wikipedia:Offensive_material. As you can see from my talk page, I make mistakes while contributing too and there is a lot of structure to Wikipedia that I didn’t know about before contributing. I was honestly surprised to see that this list of mnemonics even exists because it is pretty disturbing and vulgar. However, I believe the subtitle “Offensive and vulgar mnemonics” is meant to serve as a warning that they are exactly that—offensive and vulgar. Unfortunately, I believe this list falls under the unless part of “should not be included unless they are treated in an encyclopedic manner.” In any event, Wikipedia doesn’t use asterisks to block out any words and that wouldn’t be the appropriate action to take here.
Additionally, this note exists on the edit section of that page when you are editing source format instead of visual:
NOTE TO EDITORS: 1. DO NOT remove mnemonics merely because they are offensive. Wikipedia is not censored. 2. DO remove any mnemonic that is not published (in a book) or does not have a LOT of relevant Google hits. Wikipedia is not for things made up in school one day. 3. DO add citations to book for any that you want to remain here.
I’ve copied and pasted the entire list below, partly for my own reference.
Offensive and vulgar mnemonics include:
- Bad boys rape our young girls but Violet gives willingly. (Get Some Now (refers to the tolerance bands Gold, Silver or None))
- Bad boys run our young girls behind victory garden walls.
- Batman blows Robin on yon Gotham bridge; Vows Gordon's next.
- Batman blows Robin on yon Gotham bridge; Very good Wayne! Get Superman Next!
- Big boys rape our young girls but Violet goes willingly.
- Black boys rape our young girls because virgins go wild.
- Black boys rape our young girls behind victory garden walls.
- Black boys ride our young girls but virgins go without.
- Black boy raped our young girl, bam, virginity gone west.
- BaBy ROY of Great Britain is Very Gay With Gold & Silver Necklace.
Anyway, I think the whole list is horrible and I agree with you there. If anything, the list might be able to be reduced to just one of the “black boys rape...” mnemonics but there is a citation on the page for that one specifically so it seems likely that another editor would also revert it. There is also a significant amount of energy spent on this on the talk page. If you don’t find the solution here or you want someone else to weigh in, feel free to post a question in the Teahouse. Thanks for being on Wikipedia and feel free to come back to my talk page anytime. --Yungli0n (talk) 00:55, 4 May 2021 (UTC)Yungli0n
