What do you think of User:Srikarkashyap? My inner duck is quacking this may be another Chanyakasock, but I'm not 100% sure. - The Bushranger One ping only 03:30, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Hmm. I looked through all the tagged Chansocks and couldn't find the edits related to those...think you can dig 'em up? I got my knuckles rapped last time at SPI for not providing more specific diffs vs. just "the duck is quacking" so I'd like to have some firepower going in this time. - The Bushranger One ping only 10:41, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
  • My bad~! IIRC, should be one of his throw-away IP sock accounts so there's really little chance to link them together. Hence, I'd strongly suggest that you drop them for the time being, he's bound to slip up somewhere somehow due to his mega-egoistical/nationalistical nature that's bigger than the roman colosseum and worst than a Leo. Hello, Dave1185. You have new messages at Talk:Kowloon Bay.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

I also hope to point out that it's unconventional for an editor to make an edit that got reverted, makes the edit again, and expects the other editor to begin a discussion. (see WP:BRD) I hope you'll appreciate my extra courtesy in not reverting your edit a second time as I started the discussion on the article discussion page. --Deryck C. 23:26, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

I don't get it. Are you trying to insult me, everyone there, or no-one at all? It's not clear, and you seem to have left a misformatted ref tag behind. Ghmyrtle (talk) 11:27, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Well, the ref thing seems to have magically disappeared somehow, so I don't know what happened there. What I don't understand is this "Facepalm" thing - it comes across as abusive and insulting, whatever your intentions might have been. I'm not making any assumptions, just saying that it's not clear what you were trying to say. Ghmyrtle (talk) 17:11, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
PS: OK, I've now read this.... and also this, so I sort of get it - but NB: "If there is doubt that a recipient would take it in good humor, you should not use it." - presumably because it's easy to confuse with this. Ghmyrtle (talk) 17:18, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
You are certainly misinterpreting things if you think I "feel really passionate" about it...!!! But, it is a highly contentious area, and "jokes", or comments that can easily be misunderstood, tend to inflame rather than pacify feelings. Ghmyrtle (talk) 07:59, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Outraged of Argentina...

My spidy sense is tingling again. [2] an editor who hasn't edited for 2 years, another editor who suddenly started editing after a long gap [3] and another disruptive (blocked) editor with a big gap [4]. All suddenly coming alive to disrupt Falkland Islands in the middle of a GA drive again. Do you think these are sleeper accounts? Wee Curry Monster talk 12:43, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

  • Ah... my favourite TPS! Strange but now that you mentioned it, with the exception of Chilean IPs, the rest of Latin American (plus some Spanish retards, aka SPANIARD!) IP losers are behind the Argies again. It is the same thing on other internet websites now, as evidently Gibraltar seems to be another connection for them all. What gives? --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 17:10, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
My gut tells me something is rotten in the state of Denmark, all of these old accounts springing to life all of a sudden. I believe you might be thinking WP:POVFORK, where it does say "such forks may be merged, or nominated for deletion". It could be a misguided WP:SPINOFF (AGF and all that). • According to AFM's source in USMC, some of those seventy-two BAE Harrier-IIs will fly again, this comprised of sixty-three GR.7/9/9As plus nine T.12/12As while UK preserves two GR.9s ZD433 and ZG477 which were delivered on 20 December 2011 to FAA Museum at RNAS Yeovilton and RAF Museum at RAF Cosford respectively. Also, the GR.9s are expected to equip at least two squadrons within USMC. Reason for this was due to the condition that the USMC inspection team met during that fateful inspection, and I quote: "We were pleasantly surprised at the excellent condition of the aircraft at RAF Cottesmore where a skeleton team of engineers and technicians had carried on with the daily maintenance of the stored aircraft. Most were connected to auxiliary air-conditioning units to ensure that they were kept in tip-top shape pending a buyer, they were also towed out of the hangars so their Pegasus 107 engines could be run to ensure they did not corrode." Earlier report by AFM in February had quoted fourteen of the RAF Harriers departing under tarpaulins by road in US-built cradles taking place under strictest security in December 2011, leaving RAF Cottesmore in darkness seen heading for the Southhampton docks for transport by ship to the US. And on 10 January 2012, The Sun (United Kingdom) published photos of those jets sitting at the dockside. Me thinks you can still get a copy of the AFM and "The Sun" newspaper and verify this then help to include it into the article page. Thanks~! --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 00:12, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Interaction ban

I'm probably not terribly welcome here, and I don't want to stir anything up. But since both blocks have expired, I'm leaving a note on both of your talk pages that there is an indefinite "full-blown, strictly-interpreted, zero-tolerance interaction ban" between the two of you. --Floquenbeam (talk) 14:21, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

  • No, I... wouldn't say so. In fact, I most welcome your note here as it makes it 100% official now and that there can be no further misintepretation on his part since that last IB was enacted to protect us but he deliberately broke it the minute it expired. FWIW, I can sleep in peace now knowing full well what it means for him and you can be one hundred percent damn sure that I will fully adhere to the letter and spirit of the law of this IB I've proposed. Yes, I proposed it first but he took it to ANI to pre-empt me on both occasions. Anyway, like I've said: "Happiness isn't derived from gloating and/or commenting on the behaviour and/or block of another editor", even though countless trolls and vandals (to clarify, I'm not referring to a regular editor like him so there!) whom I've sent to the chopping board of AIV knows full well what I meant by that but still choses to read it their way to justify their story/rationale. To which I shall bid them adieu~! Now let's get back to our serious business of editing here on English Wikipedia, shall we? Again, thank you so much and hallelujah~! --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 14:58, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
    • And if Abhijay breaks it again, drop a line to an administrator. Floquenbeam or I will be glad to look into the matter quickly and take appropriate action. But I have to say, making too much out of that one revert of his (sure, he broke the rules) does not help your case. You have tested the waters at ANI--nobody there likes much drama anymore. Good luck, Drmies (talk) 03:03, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

  • Dave You were right and I was wrong. And I should have known better. My most deepest and sincere apologizes. 需要我帮忙吗?

Hello Dave, I notice you've been getting involved in a number of different scraps lately. I've suggested elsewhere that as we have had positive interactions in the past, I could perhaps step in and help you out with a few. I know you're a generally good-faith editor, but I would hate to see you blocked again over trivial issues. I think it may be a good idea if you came to me when you're feeling frustrated or heated with any issue, and not let your wiki-anger get the better of you. If there are any conflicts you get into, I'd like to know about them and help mediate. My talk page is always open, as you know. 考虑一下,好吗? —Strange Passerby (talkcont) 12:40, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

  • Dave, this isn't limited to that one incident (although it has been triggered by it). My offer was more generic and applies to all cases. I hope you will seriously consider my proposal, and not see it as merely just trying to resolve this one issue. —Strange Passerby (talkcont) 13:18, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
  • Without trying to sound patronising (you know I wouldn't do that), perhaps a spot of informal mentorship would be good? You're a perfectly capable editor, but you blow your top very easily. Therefore what I suggest is that you come to me when you encounter a conflict — it has been mentioned that you are sometimes a bit hasty to accuse other people of wrongdoing. I don't know if that's true or not, but the one way to nip those claims in the bud is if there was a third party to mediate. That's the gist of my proposal. There's nothing formal about it, I won't be watching over your every edit or conflict (which is what most mentoring agreements do). I would merely act as an uninvolved mediator, telling you to step back when I see there's a need to. Let me know your thoughts. —Strange Passerby (talkcont) 13:27, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
  • Thanks but no thanks, I'm not the one having competency issue here but Stefano clearly does. If you had read through what I've provided you, you'd have noticed that it takes two to clap and while I was away for vacation, he kept repeating the same level of hostility towards me and other editors. And when I return from vacation to this kind of treatment by him, you actually proposed that I get to be mentored??? You've got to be kidding me... my bow is clearly pointing away from the target but his bow is still pointing at me, in case you haven't noticed. Nuff said~! Just tell him to watch out for the BOOMERANG that is going to come soon if he doesn't stop his antics, as I've said before. --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 13:35, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
  • Dave, you are missing the point. This isn't about this single issue. I've made that clear above. This is in general. You already got into a scrap with he-who-shall-not-be-named, and even if you're in the right here (I will admit, I have not investigated the case in depth), there is no denying this is another scrap you're in. You cannot simply keep going around and getting into conflicts, regardless of whether you are right. As I said, it is not a formal mentoring I am suggesting. I am merely suggesting a version of it where I take no active role, and merely act as a mediator when you get into conflicts. —Strange Passerby (talkcont) 13:38, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Oh I had to laugh

Best laugh I've had in ages, almost as good as when a Brit accused me of being Pro-Argentine in the thread immediately following an Argentine accusing me of a streak of Pro-British bias. I've also had a death threat, which basically said "I kill you" but having seen Achmed the Dead Terrorist I had difficulty in taking it seriously. Wee Curry Monster talk 10:41, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Dear Dave, You won't believe this. I was doing my thing and in and old 1956 publication of Popular Mechanics was an article with pictures of the first monorail in the US. I remember that the monorail page was asking for references to improve that page. So I posted a link to that PM page by using googlebooks. Well my edit got reverted. No big deal I learn not to worry and move on. But I got curious. And went over to monorail and checked the history. This Wiki Fanatic deleted the reference because it had a googlebooks link. I guess I could have done a reference with just the publication name, date, page number and article title with ISSB number and that would have been ok. Can't figure that one out. Courtesy note

Hi Dave. I've closed the userspace ban discussion on AN/I as "no consensus", but please take a look at the comments accompanying the close. 28bytes (talk) 05:51, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Dave, as much as I get a kick out of the "bag 'em - tag 'em" thing, it's probably time to stop it. They're looking for any excuse to sock and whine and further vandalize, and it just causes trouble on ANI when the enablers jump in. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots06:10, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

My suggestion would be to keep it simple:
  • If a banned user, just put "banned" in the edit summary
  • If a sock of a blocked user, just put "blocked sock" in the edit summary
I'd also suggest not blanking questionable user pages, but rather to use MfD.
Best regards, JoeSperrazza (talk) 16:38, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
  • Joe, tagging "banned" and/or "blocked sock" might mean that I'm a SysOp when I'm actually not, while MfD is just too much hassle when any patrolling/reviewing Admin can decide if indeed it warrants removal and we can all move on regardless of the decision/outcome. Hence, tagging "semi-auto clerking" might be better. --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 16:48, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Dave, one of the editors involved in the discussion re-opened the thread without leaving a comment, which is what lead to 28bytes doing pretty much the same thing I did. I hope that you're more bemused than offended by this admin double up, as it wasn't intentional. Nick-D (talk) 23:03, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Noted, bloated andd I then went to "downloaded". Honestly, it's alright with me because I know that you guys are just doing your job, while those who are jobless makes it their job to make a big hoohaa of a mountain out of a small termite mount. • I just noticed your warning to Jimbo. That ought to keep that rascal in check. Oh, regarding the gnats being "jobless", I have it on good authority that many of them are in fact employed in high-ranking clerk positions at their local McDonald's. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots00:33, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Mentioning names of editors in your barnstars

Kindly rephrase your barnstars so as not to include names of Editors. Specially when you are talking of no retaliation and as a courtesy when asked --DBigXray 13:08, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Strange... nothing negative was implied towards you, why the sudden reaction here? Look, it wasn't meant to make you feel guilty or anything of that kind but if you reallly felt it that way, then there's nothing I can do since it's already on Has's talk. Plus, I'm really too tired to talk to you now, have to sleep. Ciao~! --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 13:34, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
I felt that asking as a courtesy would do it. sadly i was mistaken about the obvious intentions in taking names of editors in Barnstars --DBigXray 13:37, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Where did Dave give a barnstar mentioning an editor's name? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots14:00, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Just a fun fact: this was not considered fit for administrative action. What Dave wrote was just how normal people converse. --lTopGunl (talk) 14:21, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Like I've said, there's nothing I can do if you insist on drawing a negative conclusion/conotation when I've just told you, straight from the horse's mouth, that there's none that is remotely malicious. Please, use your heart to draw your own conclusion, and not with your frontal lobe. And if you still insist, good night... I'm going to sleep now. Hello, Dave1185. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Wikiquette assistance regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.--DBigXray 14:04, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Facepalm Supreme facepalm of destiny... All I wanted to do, was just to state it out in the Barnstar for all to see that I forgive Raj and that I WON'T retaliate against him (ala tete-for-tate style) for whatever he said/did to me on ANI/WP. With TopGun being my witness, that's all. This WQA thing is totally beyond me and quite frankly I'm equally as flabberghasted as you all are right now. --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 14:31, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Starstylers...

Any more word? I didn't find the post you were referring to. Someone edited Prabowo (Starstylers claims he is a close associate/friend) with an apparently offensive comment towards me, but it was deleted. I don't know whether the content was pro or anti Prabowo, or even if it was Starstylers. cheers --Merbabu (talk) 11:27, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

The things people edit war over....

See David Jewett, removing Pirate, because they think it reflects on the guy's reputation, whereas Privateer doesn't. Guess why his reputation is important?

For info Piratas is a serious insult in Spanish, they don't understand that most Brits find it hilarious when they call us Piratas and Usurpadoras. Wee Curry Monster talk 21:01, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

EXOCET missile and LAKOTA company SPAM

Dear David,

I have been helping with editing the Exocet missile page for several years, which I believe you also keep an eye on. Well in those several years person(s) keep trying to insert SPAM for a small electronic firm the Lokata Company claiming that they are so good they duplicated the EXOCET navigation system and the French demanded they stop. With no reference or nothing. And I have been researching military weapons for decades and there is nothing about the Lokata Company. But they wait a while then under a different name they do it again. I think they just hope to wear the watch editors down. But if you spot it, could you delete it or drop me a note. Thanks.

  • Well, unless you can't help it I would tell you to please try not to edit on articles with strong ties to Pakistan. FYI, I would tell Pakistani editors to refrain from showing themselves on articles with strong ties to India. Please note that this is not meant to discourage you from contributing to Wikipedia but as a general caution because I've seen one too many online arguments erupting because of conflicting parties not willing to back down due to their personal baggage from real life events/issues. Other than that, have a nice day ahead and cheers~! --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 12:01, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Could you explain why you made this change [9], and what the summary is supposed to mean? As far as I can tell, it was a perfectly fine piece of markup, and I cannot make sense of your comment. Kerfuffler (talk) 01:25, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

I still don't understand why you reverted that particular change. It was correct Wikipedia markup. Kerfuffler (talk) 02:00, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
The very same article says that infoboxes should use the template when referring to dates of birth, although it's mum about founding dates of companies. I can only interpret that the infobox is supposed to use the markup. And in any case, your summary still doesn't make any more sense. I went through his last 100 edits, and I see absolutely no sign of malice. I see formatting fixes, factual corrections, and a bunch of minor changes of no particular importance either way. Your reaction seems very out of line with the changes that were made. Kerfuffler (talk) 02:25, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

KC-135s? those old piles of... er... yeah. I think the seats on the Kc-10s ARE more comfortable :) Trusilver 02:50, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Had a chance to try my hands not-so-recently on our 135s, all of a sudden that old pal's word (incidentally, he's from the KC-10 community) came into my mind, a damn uncomfortable position on the 135 even though the seat had been nicely reupholstered, and that reminded me of a friend who had to do posturing (for 2½ months!) after being treated for retinal detachment. --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 03:04, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Any ideas

You two are edit warring, and using the edit summaries as a debate forum. Both of those are bad practice. Kerfuffler (talk) 17:04, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Try having an editor follow you for a year reverting your edits and see how your patience is. Wee Curry Monster talk 17:23, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
I know Wikipedia process is a pain, but if you have proof strong evidence of WP:HOUND, there are mechanisms for addressing that. Engaging in edit wars is not going to improve your case. Kerfuffler (talk) 17:30, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

I blocked both people who were reverting each other for the same amount of time, mostly just wanted to interrupt the edit war and hopefully have them be more careful in the future. 3RR blocks typically are fairly short. · Andonic contact 01:59, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

I agree its an article worth rescuing by the way, just finding the motivation to do much on wikipedia sadly lacking of late.
