Slow down on the color edits

[edit]

Shark, go a bit slower when making substantive changes to material that other editors have a lot of good work invested in. Dozens of edits in a row in one day makes it very hard for others to check and collaborate on your contributions. Dicklyon (talk) 05:22, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's possible to see a cumulative log of changes on the History page of an article by clicking on the left radio button for the first edit, and the right radio button for the last edit. This is a very convenient tool, as you can see all the interim changes on a single page. There aren't a lot of people contributing to the article, so I didn't think it was that important to monitor changes. SharkD (talk) 05:26, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Right, I know how to use it. But when you've done a ton of section rearrangements and rewrites, it's very hard to tell what meanings might have changed without inspecting each edit. And when there are 4 or 5 in a row to get the wording right on a section, it's that much harder. And all that in one day makes you look too much like User:Brews ohare :). Dicklyon (talk) 05:48, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear fellow Wikipedian, on behalf of the Kindness campaign, I just want to wish you a Happy Bastille Day, whether you are French, Republican or not!  :) Happy Editing! Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk 23:32, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2 Speedy moves you proposed

[edit]

I removed the proposals for Category:Video games by license and Category:Lua-scripted games because neither qualifies for speedy renaming. The first one doesn't because "not specific enough" is not one of the accepted reasons. And the second one doesn't qualify because conformity is only acceptable if it's x by y or x of y or x in y. I will say, though, that if you nominate both in the regular Wikipedia:Categories for Deletion page, they will probably be approved. They simply don't fit in the speedy guidelines. --User:Woohookitty Diamming fool! 05:12, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please update your status with WP:VG

[edit]

Dear WikiProject Video games member,

You are receiving this message because you have either Category:WikiProject Video games members or {{User WPVG}} somewhere in your userspace and you have edited Wikipedia in recent months.

The Video games project has created a member list to provide a clearer picture of its active membership.

All members have currently been placed in the "Inactive" section by default. Please remove your username from the "Inactive" listing and place it under the "Active" listing if you plan on regularly:

Ideally, members are encouraged to do both, but either one meets our criteria of inclusion. Members still listed inactive at the beginning of November 2009 may be removed. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.

Naming/content of Role-playing game

[edit]

Hi, I see from your previous posts that you have an interest in the naming/content of Role-playing game. That article currently describes tabletop roleplaying games, with other forms of roleplaying such as video RPGs and LARP described as a variety of tabletop game. Based on the comments on the talk page, it seems that many users are surprised to find that the article Role-playing game is about tabletop role-playing games.

I have made a proposal that in order to meet the WP:NAME policy that article should describe all activities commonly described as role-playing games on an equal footing, and that a new article Tabletop role-playing game should be created to describe tabletop roleplaying games. If you have the time I'd be grateful if you could give your opinion on my proposal at Talk:Role-playing game. Ryan Paddy (talk) 23:18, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

TOC for 1980's Console RPG's

[edit]

I put the 1980's Console RPG list back together as one list, so the list can be sorted as a whole again. But I added a few tags and changed the Table of Contents so that one can jump straight to a specific year. See what you think. I won't be offended if you choose to revert to the default TOC, or use a different TOC altogether. Dawynn (talk) 16:25, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:30, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Trouble on HSL and HSV; 3RR warning

[edit]

SharkD, I notice that you've been doing a lot of reverting on HSL and HSV, including 3 in less than 24 hours a few days ago, with no explanation beyond that you don't like the wording. Please review WP:3RR, and realize that even without getting to 4 reverts in 24 hours you may be subject to being temporarily blocked for edit warring. Instead of reverting, use the talk page to explain your objections, or do the edits that will improve the wording. Dicklyon (talk) 04:44, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey SharkD, I agree with you that some of the captions you have been reverting to your re-write aren’t ideally worded, and can use some work. I adopted several of your changes, but in other cases I think that your version either changes the meaning, or is wordier or less clear than the original. Instead of just reverting, I've been trying to make some compromises or further improvements, but if you just revert every one of my tries with a short and non-descriptive summary, we can’t really make any effective progress. I welcome your discussion at the talk page; I think we should be able to iron this out amicably and find text we can all agree on. That can only happen if you take part in the discussion though. –jacobolus (t) 05:35, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey SharkD, great work converting this article to a sortable table. Here's a wikignome mini-barnstar: *

Video game lists

No problem at all. I may find more in the archive as time goes on; if I do, I'll let you know here. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 16:37, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I thought I'd compliment your highly impressive work on that list. Before I gave you those links, I never really paid attention to it; I decided to check it out recently, and was amazed by how helpful and usable it was. Thanks for all your hard work; I'll definitely be using it in the future. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 00:48, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Glad you like it! SharkD  Talk  23:52, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work making the online print archive's indexing system more usable. I figured that most people wouldn't bother with the raw archives; they were largely set up for my own convenience while digging up reviews and other material. However, your efforts have greatly improved their transparency for the average editor, without sacrificing their aforementioned convenience on my end. Great job.

One thing I'd like to mention, though: the CGM articles' login issue can, in fact, be bypassed. You first need to copy the link from the greater archive, since clicking on it redirects you to that broken page forever; then, paste it into the Wayback Machine and go for one of the 2003 dates. It works for all of them, as far as I know. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 08:22, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, it looks like the version you selected automatically avoids that. In that case, I've never encountered the issue you mentioned in all my time editing the archive. Could you describe it in detail? JimmyBlackwing (talk) 08:27, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't realize there was a way to get around it. Will take another look at it later today. SharkD  Talk  13:58, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Again, impressive work. I've made a few tweaks, and will probably make a few more before I'm done, but you've drastically improved the quality of the index system. Thanks. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 05:55, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome!!! SharkD  Talk  07:06, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that. Yes, it is neutral. The main problems are the fair-use tags and the unaddressed tags that are already in the article. Everything else is looking good. Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:35, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

While you may be busy, I was hoping that you could give Glass Joe a copyedit and/or provide a comment on its FAC. In return, I could help out with your History of RPGs in some way. - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 04:11, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited History of Western role-playing video games, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ultima (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

"Find video game sources" Template

[edit]

I realize you've not been directly involved in the conversation, so I thought I'd give you a quick heads-up regarding why I altered this template.

  • The Custom Google Search engine (CSE) that was used by WP:VG was way out of date and contradictory. Originally WP:VG had been using Gwern's Anime RS CSE to find related material on video games.
  • Then in July 2009, it seems that User:Odie5533 created his own CSE, got it whitelisted, and changed the links but accidentally left Gwern's name as the CSE operator. Since then Gwern has been getting questions regarding the WP:VG CSE and has been disclaiming ownership. Odie5533's CSE is sort of useful, however it only seems to cover 5 sources, 2 of which are now considered NON-RS, one of which is listed as "situational", and 1 of which is unlisted.
  • Before discovering that this was Odie5533's CSE I created my own set of them in order to help me personally search for RS sources. After a discussion at WT:VG/S, User:Salvidrim got these new CSEs whitelisted and they're now listed as WP:VG's CSE.

So that's the whole story. I just wanted to let you know in case you had this template on your watchlist and were curious about the change. Cheers, -Thibbs (talk) 19:05, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh and I just got around to changing the link in "Find video game sources short" as well. -Thibbs (talk) 18:58, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article History of Western role-playing video games you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:History of Western role-playing video games for things which need to be addressed. You've done some amazing work, and I look forward to promoting the article soon. Torchiest talkedits 17:35, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Just wanted to double check to see if you'd noticed my good article review. I saw that you'd made some changes, but it doesn't look like you addressed any of the issues I raised. I'll leave it open for a while longer to make sure you have a chance to fix the problems. Torchiest talkedits 21:27, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Spaceempires.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Spaceempires.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:22, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Video games article bot

[edit]

I think someone from the Video Games project is using a bot to collect assessment data from the WP 1.0 project on toolserver - but I don't know who it is, I just have the records of the web requests on toolserver. Do you know of any frequently-updated stats that for the project that could be generated that way? — Carl (CBM · talk) 18:37, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not frequently collected stats, no. I also don't know how to use bots. SharkD  Talk  19:47, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. — Carl (CBM · talk) 20:04, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Video game Barnstar

For the History of Western role-playing video games, the first good work on a genre article I've seen for a long time. bridies (talk) 16:44, 3 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think getting it up to FA was too big a task for the time allowed, but then taking something to peer-review at WP:VG doesn't tend to get one very far... Better luck next time. bridies (talk) 16:44, 3 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, thanks! Yeah, I'm a little disappointed it didn't make it. Maybe it will at some point in the future. SharkD  Talk  19:46, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Space Empire Elite has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I love BBS history, but this game game does not meet WP:N criteria. It doesn't have significant coverage in reliable sources independent of the subject.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. czar · · 06:33, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Brave Saga

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Brave Saga. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Brave series. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Brave series – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. - MrX 12:59, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of Dispute resolution discussion

[edit]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute in which you may have been involved. Content disputes can hold up article development, therefore we are requesting your participation to help find a resolution. The thread is "Talk:Wasteland 2#Game_Camera_View".

Guide for participants

If you wish to open a DR/N filing, click the "Request dispute resolution" button below this guide or go to Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/request for an easy to follow, step by step request form.

What this noticeboard is:
  • It is an early step to resolve content disputes after talk page discussions have stalled. If it's something we can't help you with, or is too complex to resolve here, our volunteers will point you in the right direction.
What this noticeboard is not:
  • It is not a place to deal with the behavior of other editors. We deal with disputes about article content, not disputes about user conduct.
  • It is not a place to discuss disputes that are already under discussion at other dispute resolution forums.
  • It is not a substitute for the talk pages: the dispute must have been discussed extensively on a talk page (not just through edit summaries) before resorting to DRN.
  • It is not a court with judges or arbitrators that issue binding decisions: we focus on resolving disputes through consensus, compromise, and explanation of policy.
Things to remember:
  • Discussions should be civil, calm, concise, neutral, and objective. Comment only about the article's content, not the other editors. Participants who go off-topic or become uncivil may be asked to leave the discussion.
  • Let the other editors know about the discussion by posting {{subst:drn-notice}} on their user talk page.
  • Sign and date your posts with four tildes "~~~~".
  • If you ever need any help, ask one of our volunteers, who will help you as best as they can. You may also wish to read through the FAQ page located here and on the DR/N talkpage.

Please take a moment to review the simple guide and join the discussion. Thank you! EarwigBot operator / talk 19:08, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WP:VG newsletter interview

[edit]

Hey there. Are you interested in being interviewed for the Q2 2013 WikiProject Video Games Newsletter? Considering the amount of substantial work you've done over the years, I think you'd be a good editor to talk to about what your work. We're going to put it out in early July, so there's still a good amount of time to decide if you want to. If so, let me know and I'll post a link to a page with some questions. Cheers. —Torchiest talkedits 14:16, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
