Robotics

Hi

I noticed you doing those nice little additions to the robot and robotics articles

I have been trying to get feedback on a robotics infobox if you would like to comment it is here User:Chaosdruid/Infobox_robotics

You may also want to join the Robotics Project, not very active but useful! Wikipedia:WikiProject Robotics

Chaosdruid (talk) 00:57, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi! Thank you for information about Robotics Project (just joined).
My goal at the moment is to categorize all robots and robotics articles that currently exist in Wikipedia.
I like your robotics infobox (they are detailed, that's what I like) and I'm eager to add them later to robots pages :)
Danim2 (talk) 12:46, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

Welcome

Hi

Thanks for joining :¬)

Thanks for adding the Robotics tl on the pages, your hard work is appreciated!

Any chance you can also check the talk pages, really only needed on new articles, to ensure they have the Project tag on them ?

If not can you add this please: {{WikiProject Robotics|class=|importance=|attention=no|past-selected=no}}

You do not need to add anything to the fields, apart from if the article is a "List of..." in which case "class=list"

Thanks for your help so far

Chaosdruid (talk) 02:52, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi
Thanks about {{WikiProject Robotics}} template - I will be adding it.
Any more usefull informations? :)
Danim2 (talk) 12:25, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
I have amended the tag (see note below) Chaosdruid (talk) 10:10, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Hexapods

Hi

Unfortunately I have to go out now for a few hours, it looks good though and I will write later as I am leaving in about ten minutes!

cheers Chaosdruid (talk) 12:55, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Ok. No problem. There is a lot of time for this :)
Danim2 (talk) 13:02, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
I think you should be ok with one line for each version. If there is not any real difference, or there are lots of versions you can always use the <br/>:
Hexapod robots
Image Name Year Created by Country Dimensions Weight DOF Speed Description Links
File:Hexbug Inchworm red.jpg HEXA
HEXB
6 cm
6.5 cm
Innovation First, Inc. USA Insectoid toy robot. Official site

obviously they aren't in the right columns, but it is just an example :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 08:26, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Ok, I think it's good solution. Thank you. Danim2 (talk) 18:14, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Couple of points

Hi

Just to let you know that I had to correct a couple of things - section headers should not be in bold, and realistically when we talk about areas we do that by country specific. As a result I had to change the headers American -> United States and Japanese -> Japan. One problem is that American, whilst not really going to be taken literally, could refer to any country from Canada down to Argentina. Chaosdruid (talk) 03:06, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Those articles already existed as standalone - I wanted to bring them together. I agree with you - could do it better. I'm watching your and others modifications and still learning. Danim2 (talk) 11:48, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Next thing is that you are creating some nice articles, but please try to ensure that they do not exist anywhere else, and that they are really titled correctly. The "Areas of robotics" is not really about areas but the applications of the particular mix of fields. It should probably be called something else - it is a list for a start and should be called such. Can you consider creating things like that in your sandbox and then we can discuss before going live? (try looking here to see what I mean :¬) List_of_robotics_topics)

Thanks Chaosdruid (talk) 03:06, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Ok, I think that sandbox sollution is good. The "Areas of robotics" was taken from RoboCup Standard Platform League#Technologies, and that is true, that I saw List_of_robotics_topics later.. You can delete it if you want. Besides I'm doing those modifications, because your robot template is not ready yet and I can't start adding robot articles ;-) [joke] The truth is I'm traying to help and not to make any new troubles.
Thank you Danim2 (talk) 11:48, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
I certainly do not think you are causing trouble ! You are helping the robotics project more than anyone ahs in a long time!
I have been bringing the project pages up-to-date, sorting out the main articles and topics, categorising and running general maintenance. I have also been doing the assessments, something like 800 articles needed bringing up to date and nearly 400 articles were unassessed and unclassed - it has been a mammoth task and I have not had time to sort out the finer details like you have been doing, that alone is the biggest and most amazing help we have had in the last year ! (see below)
I just had to go and add a category to all the templates that people had created in the past, it took a while though and as you are making about 20 new articles a day you are really hard to keep up with :¬)
I think the robot infobox is completed, sort of, but the problem is getting people to accept it. I think we might get away with several rather than just one. For example a "Competition robot template would probably be alright as it would just be an update to the old one. Hopefully that will be sorted out soon.
The Areas of Robotics - we need to agree on whether it should be incorporated into the List of robotics topics or just renamed. Chaosdruid (talk) 13:58, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

PS - also added replies at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Robotics

Thank you for your nice words. I've seen that you have been updating articles like crazy :-) I have some questions, but ask them later, because now I have to leave for the weekend. Thank you for the WikiProject Robotics Barnstar :-) Danim2 (talk) 18:00, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

From David: thanks for the edit on industrial robot - you got there before me! In fact just 14 minutes after the vandalism! Robotics1 (talk) 14:50, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

You're welcome! I'm glad I could help! :) Danim2 (talk) 15:28, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the help

I, Chaosdruid (talk), award User:Danim2, the WikiProject Robotics Barnstar, for your efforts in improving robotics-related topics or WikiProject Robotics. Thanks for your help improving the Robotics project. Chaosdruid (talk) 14:13, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Troposphere

Hi Dan,

Great job with creating those articles about the Troposphere program; Wikipedia needs more articles about science and technology in Africa. There's been a fair bit of activity relating to those articles today. The main article has been moved to Troposphere (rocket family) and the two articles about specific rockets in the family have been merged into that article. Because there is only one article now, Template:Troposphere program is no longer in use. Would you object if I deleted it?

Neelix (talk) 20:06, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Of course you can delete it - it's useless now. Thank you. Danim2 (talk) 15:21, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Hi Dan,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly and also for reminding me to check back. The template has been deleted.
Happy editing,
Neelix (talk) 12:11, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
Thank you :) Danim2 (talk) 14:39, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Cats and crs

Hi

I am a little confused lol! How does the carriage return affect the cts again? Are you saying that having a line space:

}}

<noinclude

causes a spacing to appear somewhere when the tl is used? If so that is a real problem as I did that on several templates :¬( Chaosdruid (talk) 23:10, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

{{done}} I'll check them as they are all on the Robotics templates cat page Chaosdruid (talk) 23:15, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
I have taken them all to:
}}<noinclude rather than:
}}
<noinclude
{{done}} - but would leaving them as }}<no have also fixed it?Chaosdruid (talk) 23:58, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
There shoudln't be any characters after "}}". You can read more about it here: Noinclude, includeonly, and onlyinclude. Danim2 (talk) 00:47, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Cheers for the link I will read later as am off for a while to eat. Chaosdruid (talk) 01:14, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
also

There was also this [1] on the Template:Mobile robots - there are six on that DB page Unmanned_vehicle_(disambiguation), maybe they should all be in the navbox if they aren't already?

I've modified Mobile robots navbox and added them.
I am thinking about changing this template's name to: "Robots". Then we would have two main templates Robotics (for all topics related to robots) and Robots. What do you think about it? Danim2 (talk) 00:47, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
also

I have also question about Radio-controlled models (they mostly don't belong to any project right now). I have started adding them to Wikiproject Robotics, but now I'm not sure if they should be in this project. What do you think? Danim2 (talk) 00:47, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

I suppose many of them would fall into the toy category, and so into the Toy Project scope. Some radio controlled vehicles are included though, such as UAVs etc. Robotics scope is here Wikipedia:WikiProject_Robotics/Article_guidelines. I would say that anything that is definately a toy would not, most that are not toys would need more thought though. Chaosdruid (talk) 01:14, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Tag change

Hi

I have amended the tag above as it had a no-longer-used field in it. The correct version is:

{{WikiProject Robotics|class=|importance=|attention=no|past-selected=no}}

The "nested=" field is no longer used and, after discussing it on the Wikipedia Projects Council talk page, I have taken it out.

Chaosdruid (talk) 10:14, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Ok, thanks for the info. I will be using this version now. Danim2 (talk) 10:43, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Creations

Hi

I created a new List of Androids as well as two categories, Category:Android and Category:Androids.

I have tried to fill in some of the Androids, but there are so many and there is quite a strange overlap between humanoid robot and android being used by people.

I know. I'm adding humanoid robots with human face to Template:Androids. But someone, for example, removed HUBO from it.. Danim2 (talk) 11:35, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
Well, HUBO is not really an android. Androids need to look like humans, so as HUBO is really a robot with a man's face, for now at least, it wouldn't fit in the category really I don't think.
Ok, I understand. Danim2 (talk) 13:19, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Anyway, hope all is well. I have finished the assessments of all Class=???/Importance=??? article now, over 600 so I can try and concentrate on the Robotics Infoboxes :¬)

This is great news for me :) Danim2 (talk) 11:35, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
Unfortunately I am back at work this week so probably no real amount of work on that, well not until the weekend Chaosdruid (talk) 13:08, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

If you have time, or feel like doing it for a laugh, there are some articles that need some immediate work, any in the Category:Robotics articles needing attention would be greatly appreciated. There should be some notes on their talk page under "Attention needed" or "Robotics attention needed" to roughly guide what needed fixing when I looked at them. If you do manage to get a look at one or two, then once finished work add {{tl|done}} next to the * item and once all are finished change "attention-yes" to "=no" in the Robotics banner at the top of the talk page.

Ok. I will try to fix them when I'll be adding Infoboxes to those articles. First of all I want to concetrate on references. Danim2 (talk) 11:35, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks Chaosdruid (talk) 19:21, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

And a question - there are many images. Do you want me to assess them to WikiProject? I see that we don't have any files assessed at the moment.. Danim2 (talk) 11:35, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
That sounds fine, but I am not clear on what you mean by assess (I assume you mean categorise?) and do you mean on wiki or commons? Well, I suppose it doesn't matter which really :¬) There are some images included as "Selected Picture" from the portal page Portal:Robotics Chaosdruid (talk) 13:08, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
I'm sorry for my terminology. I mean something like this: File_talk:Palac_Prezydencki2.jpg (this file is within the scope of WikiProject Poland). Danim2 (talk) 13:19, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
Yup - no problem. Just the base template though {{WP Robotics}}. Chaosdruid (talk) 13:41, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Assessments and robotics talk page banner

Hi

You do know you can do the basic assessments don't you?

There is nothing to stop you from adding assessments such as Stub and Start, or Low/Mid/High etc. We don't use C class (unless there is a possibility it should be assessed at B class checks) and B or above should really be done on a bit more strict scale. If you read this page Wikipedia:WikiProject_Robotics/Assessment it gives you more details as well as a list of recent assessment changes. (Be careful of moves though as they are undated - I had a bit of a dig at someone and then discovered the move was two years ago even though it was listed under something like March 10th 2011 !!)

I normally look at the article and if it has one ref or no refs it cannot be higher than a start. If it has only a couple of lines of text but 6 refs, it cannot be higher than a stub.

I just assessed a couple you tagged so I will use them as examples ;¬)

  • Indian_Underwater_Robotics_Society - has good amount of refs from different sources. Has several well filled sections and seems balanced: Class=Start and Importance=Low
  • Japan Robot Association - no refs, low amount of info, Country-wide association and is member of robotics federation: Class=Stub and Importance=Low: added attention needed as is only a stub and has no refs
  • led me to International_Federation_of_Robotics which I assessed as Stub and mid (as is an international group):Added attention needed as there is only one valid ref. and is only a stub
  • Intervention AUV - A little more tricky to assess. No refs but a substantial amount of text. I did assess it but then forgot to set attention needed to "yes". I have corrected that now on the article's talk page.

Any questions let me know :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 16:58, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi.
I was thinking about it before, but didn't want to "break" something in Wikipedia.. ;-) Are you watching all assessments and correct my errors, if you find any?
I'll try to reassess those articles tommorow, or during the weekend, because I have to go now.
Thanks for your tips, as always :)

Edits

Thanks for your edits to the obesity page. As primary research studies can show conflicting results we generally use review articles. I will see if I can find such sources that deal with the points you added unless you beat me too it. Cheers Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 07:08, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

I've only found this one: The number of years lived with obesity and the risk of all-cause and cause-specific mortality. I think we have to wait for review articles.. Danim2 (talk) 13:40, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

File pages

Just a heads up, that you should not be adding categories to file pages when the file is at commons. When you add categories in this way, it creates a WP page for a file that is found at Wikimedia Commons, and pages so created at WP may be speedily deleted. I have noticed that you have created quite a few of these lately, and they all will just need to be deleted! Good Ol’factory (talk) 09:48, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

I now see that some of them were deleted :( But before I starded adding categories to them, few of them were categorized, and were visible on category pages for some time.. Thank you for explanation. Danim (talk) 14:53, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it's an issue that is not dealt with very well on WP because of lack of people working on it. There is a backlog of thousands of these file pages for files that exist on Commons that the corresponding WP page needs to be deleted, but it's not really a priority so the backlog grows. I try to do a bit here and there to help, but often it feels like a losing battle, and I'm not sure if the process will ever catch up! Thanks for your understanding. Good Ol’factory (talk) 04:59, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply. I think, that it should be clearly stated somewhere on Wikipedia's help pages. I've only found this page Wikipedia:Categorization#Images before I started, but there is no information about watching out for the files in commons.. Danim (talk) 05:18, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Monitor. WikiProject Poland Newsletter: Issue 1 (April 2011)

WikiProject Poland Newsletter • April 2011
For our freedom and yours

Welcome to our first issue of WikiProject Poland newsletter, the Monitor (named after the first Polish newspaper).

Our Project has been operational since 1 June, 2005, and also serves as the Poland-related Wikipedia notice board. I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Poland page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions. We hope you will join us in them, if you haven't done so already! Unlike many other WikiProjects, we are quite active; in this year alone about 40 threads have been started on our discussion page, and we do a pretty good job at answering all issues raised.

In addition to a lively encyclopedic, Poland-related, English-language discussion forum, we have numerous useful tools that can be of use to you - and that you could help us maintain and develop:

This is not all; on our page you can find a list of useful templates (including userboxes), awards and other tools!

With all that said, how about you join our discussions at WT:POLAND? Surely, there must be something you could help others with, or perhaps you are in need of assistance yourself?

You have received this newsletter because you are listed as a [member link] at WikiProject Poland. • Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 21:11, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi

Hi - sorry for my lack of communication but I have had conjunctivitis for almost two weeks and could not even open my eyes unless it was almost totally dark for almost a week, my PC screen was much too bright!

Anyway, I am back now although work commitments will mean intermittent time online for the next week - good work though, you have done so much while I have not been around :¬)

I will try and catch up more tomorrow (public holiday here so should have some spare time to go through things and catch up) Chaosdruid (talk) 19:45, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Great to see you back in good form! :-) I hope your eyes will be ok for a long long time.
I'm trying to improve Wikipedia a little here and there, but I'll have more work in the coming month and contributions rate will probably decrease.
I'm not asking about robotics infobox at the moment, because I know that you are busy etc. It's nice to have you back :-) Danim (talk) 18:08, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Update

Hi m8

Just a quick update on things.

  • Three Laws of Robotics (GA nomination) - Still no joy as there are some sticking points from the GA nomination back in December 2010. I have sort of given up on that one until I get more feedback from Malleus Fatuorum as I am a lone editor and every time I get it the way I think it should be another established editor has come along and decided to turn it all around.
  • I am in discussion on the Outline of robotics and Index of robotics articles - This is a difficult one. TheTranshumanist started doing his outlines just over a year ago and they have expanded to a project which is now going around and changing all the "Index of..." articles. I have entered into discussion User_talk:The_Transhumanist#Robotics_and_robot_articles but am not hopeful of an entirely satisfactory outcome. The problem is that there are many in the index of robotics that should not be there and a lot of work needed to remove them. I randomly sampled 6 of the W articles and found 4 of them had nothing to do with robotics, robots, or anything even closely resembling and artificial limb or positronic brain.
  • I have decided that we should work together (if you are happy to) and create separate infoboxes for each category rather than one which covers everything.
  • I am going to spend the next three weeks catching up on Robotics articles to ensure that they are all ready for us to start assessing.

Hope you are ok :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 16:57, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

I went ahead and added the other competitors in 2005 and the other competitions as well (2004 & 2007).Naraht (talk) 13:41, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Robotics stuff

Hi

What little projects are you up to at the moment? I can see you adding cats I think? Anyway, just wondered if you might have a little free time to go over some robotics stuff once you are finished with your work.

I was going to start looking at the top and high importance articles and start working up a list of maintenance needed. For example the Robotics page has a few banners (3 I think) for sections that do not have refs.

Please let me know if you want to help and when you might be free :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 12:13, 21 June 2011 (UTC) PS If you want to see how much difference a few people can make, the total of robotics articles has gone from 1,300 in December to 1,700! Good work! Chaosdruid (talk) 13:02, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Chaosdruid!

I am ok :) I'm sorry for my lack of communication, I was going to answer you 21.06, but categorization of robots absorbed me totally..

Yes, it's nice to see, that the project is growing :)

I'm, at the moment, trying to categorize robots, robotics articles, and assess everything robotics-related. I'm also cleaning up articles and linking/creating commons categories, and adding Portal:Robotics link - I'll be adding some news there later. I would like to check every article..

  • Outline of robotics looks ok. I like the new form - short description for every topic. But number of articles included there should be limited to the most important ones - I would move list of robots and fictional robots and/or roboticists to separate articles/subcategories of Category:Robotics by country or separate outline.
  • Index of robotics articles might be usefull for some people, but it's true that many articles there aren't related to robotics and should be removed..

I will definitely help with top and high importance articles, when I find some time.

When it comes to infobox template, I'm of course ready (and happy to) to help you, as I said before many times :-) I like the concept of Template:Infobox ship begin and Template:Starbox begin - group of templates, that allows you to choose informations you need. For example (from your infobox templates):

{{infobox robot begin
| name =
}}

{{Infobox robot image
| image =
| caption =
}}

{{Infobox robot detail
| manufacturer =
| year_of_manufacture =
| development_cost =
| manufacture_cost =
| price =
| number_built =
| status = In production
| propulsion =
}}

{{Infobox robot construction
| purpose =
| environment =
| material =
| propulsion =
| dof = 4 (legs)<br/>4 (arms)<br/>6 (head)
| dof_total = 22
| navigation_systems =
}}

{{Infobox robot walking
| number_of_legs =
| walk_speed =
| run_speed =
}}

{{Infobox robot submersible
| maximum_depth =
| operational_speed =
| maximum_distance =
}}

{{Infobox robot dimmensions
| height_overall =
| height_body =
| width_body =
| length_overall =
| legnth_body =
| weight_unladen =
| weight_laden =
| weight_carry =
}}

{{Infobox robot weapon
| weapon1 =
| weapon_details1 =
| weapon2 =
| weapon_details2 =
}}

{{Infobox robot competition
| wins =
| special_wins =
| win_loose =
| ranking =
}}

{{Infobox robot mission
| launch_date =
| landed_on =
| mission_code =
| launch_vehicle
}}

{{Infobox robot hardware
| CPU =
| connectivity =
| camera =
| camera_frame_rate =
| battery =
| touch_sensors =
| charger_adapter =
}}

{{Infobox robot family
| preceeded =
| superceeded =
| siblings =
}}

{{Infobox robot other
| website =
| references =
}}

{{infobox robot end}}

We would have to determine how to divide such templates (walking, swimming, flying robots, humanoid robots, space robots, etc. - each type of robot has other characterists). I think it's easier to maintain such a group of templates - all sections are logically divided, possibility to choose only the needed ones, no need to create many templates with almost the same fileds. The disadvantage may be that it might look a little complicated for some inexperienced users.. What do you think?

Nice to see, that you are still with Robotics Project :)

PS. My time will be limited in the next few weeks, but I'll try to help as much as possible.

Danim (talk) 00:20, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Not much time today but will read your notes later this evening.
Interesting tasks you have set yourself! Anyway, I will probably start trying to turn the stubs into starts until you are finished or need help with your current projects.
Once we both have some free time we can start getting the infoboxes right. Chaosdruid (talk) 15:06, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Stuff to do

Hi

I think we might have to get a page going for the lists of things to do.

We have a few on the boil already, some in the pipeline on hold and some other tasks needing doing soonish.

For example there is the "attention needed" which were done between June and December 2010 when I was assessing the ??? articles.

I will have a look at the Robotics project pages to see where we should be updating/creating the list. (to be honest the whole thing needs updating. I did start a new newsletter but did not get enough done to warrant issuing it in May as I had hoped. Chaosdruid (talk) 23:58, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi.
It is true that there's a lot to do. More people should work on this..
Thank you for pointing out Category:Robotics articles needing attention. I'll try updating it in free time.
Sometimes I'm tagging articles with {{Multiple issues}} and similar maintenance templates. Then there's a greater chance that other Wikipedians will help, because not too many people are reading talk pages, I think.

Removal of categories

Hi

I have re-added Humanoid robot to ASIMO. ASIMO has to included in Humanoid robots, and it could also be in bipedal, otherwise when people look at the category it will not be there. I understand why you have tried to categorise them in that way, but the ASIMO category should be everything that is a sub-category of ASIMO.

ASIMO is a humanoid bi-pedal robot. It has pages relating solely to it, so it gets a sub-category ASIMO as well.

Chess is a strategy board-game. It also has pages relating to it, so it gets a sub-category "Chess" as well. (pawn (chess), rook (chess), knight (chess) etc.) Chaosdruid (talk) 23:39, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Hmm... I just looked at chess, I forgot that those are all Category:Chess pieces Doh! Chaosdruid (talk) 23:41, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
PS Don't forget to add the alphabetising letter when necessary to the category, so that they appear in the correct place in the category pages alpha list. You will need to check that every now and again. See Category:Robots and Categoy:Robotics where I have added R in the cats on the Outline of Robotics page (as a test, it should probably be O lol).
It was categorised that way on purpose. When you write [[Category:Robotics| ]] or [[Category:Robotics| Robot]] (with space after vertical bar, or space followed by article name to sort by name), then it guarantees that article Robot will be visible as first item in Category:Robotics. Look here Category:United_States - the most important articles (Index of United States–related articles and United States) are categorised that way. Many, many other categories have such artilces at the beginning also..
The same with Biomorphic robotics - it is the most important article in Category:Biomorphic robots, so it was sorted to be at the beginning - to distinguish it from regular robots' articles. And all the robots are sorted alphabetically in this category.Danim (talk) 00:06, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

I've repaired ASIMO and Category:ASIMO categories. Thank for pointing that out.

I'm trying to make Category:Robots look similar to Category:Ships. Maybe you have some other suggestions? Danim (talk) 00:35, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Just Robotic companies, as it is something I have thought about a lot over the last two years and still cannot make my mind up. ;Possibilites:

  • Robotics companies (Robotics by company)
  • Robotics manufacturers
  • Manufacturers of robots
  • Robot manufacturers
  • Robot companies
  • etc.

The problems are simple, robot companies sounds like they run it, Robotics manufacturers seems to preclude robot manufacturers and imply Robotics companies make spare parts. Manufacturers of robots sound too weird and Robotics companies don't necessarily have to be manufacturers of robots.

The subdivisions are quite important as well, Robotic arm manufacturers, do they make arms for ASIMO? It goes on and on lol

I was thinking about it also, but I was putting that away..

I suppose we can use Robots by company, though that is about as nondescript as one can get. WE also have Robotics by company, though most are robot manufacturers (such as HONDA and rather than robotics - AHHH my head hurts!

I didn't like "Robotics at ..." (e.g. Robotics at Honda) categories from the beginning, but someone else was creating them earlier - those categories include only robots, and in my opinion, they should be renamed to "Robots of ..." (e.g. Robots of Honda) and put into category: "Robots by company".
Robots of Honda = Robots owned by Honda; perhaps Robots by Honda or Robots made by Honda (as Robots by Honda would not necessarily cover ones that were made by them but are not current models) Chaosdruid (talk) 12:56, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
I was looking how it's done here: Category:Ships by company. But it could also be "Honda robots" (like here Category:Microprocessors by company or Category:Brands by company). If robot was made by Fujitsu and later was bought and further developed by Honda, then it can be added to both categories - "Fujitsu robots" and "Honda robots".. Danim (talk) 13:27, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

I do love the Sex Robots though, what a category lol :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 00:53, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

"Robotic hall of fame" category on inductees - just checking those, seems AIBO has that category added yet Roomba did not. {{done}}

Robot Hall of Fame

Cast your vote! [4]

I voted for Bender Bending Rodriguez (obviously!) Chaosdruid (talk) 15:23, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Anything that had been inducted to the RHoF I am putting as a mid importance, though there were two missing articles. You found my first one lol, Navlab - the other was the Hopper, though I have linked that to the guy that built it.
Anyway, I have a GAR to vomplete, but if you wouldn' mind checking the list [Robot Hall of Fame]] to see it there are any that could be better linked I would be really grateful :¬)
Lastly, after being interrogated by an editor about Robotics articles and their importance assessment Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Robotics/Assessment#Importance, I was spurred to put an old version I had been working on up at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Robotics/Assessment/Importance_scale. It is far from ready, but I am giving you the link so that you can take a first peek :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 17:20, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Industrial Robot

Hi Danim, on 30 sept you removed category "robotics" and replaced it with "robot" on 5 nov you removed category "robot" altogether. Surely industrial robot is in the category robot or robotics, one or the other. I am guessing you made a mistake so have restored your last edit. David — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robotics1 (talkcontribs) 19:28, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, my bad. I agree with you industrial robots is enough. But now Chris has changed category from robot to robots. Robotics1 (talk) 21:41, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

Large NEO Earth close approach

How do we want to define a Large Earth-close approach?

Or should we limit it passes (inside the orbit of the moon)? I think inside the orbit of the moon is easier to track and define. See what I did at 2005 YU55. -- Kheider (talk) 18:19, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

Cave list edits

Thanks for your edits. I see you added some notes to the Poland Caves. These claims to fame should really be referenced. Most cave organizations have a hard time sharing information with similar outfits so many claims can be duplicated. It would help if you could reference the claims. Thanks! I've added references. Please feel free to replace them, if you find better ones. Danim (talk) 15:52, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi Danim, can you please explain the removal of external links to the website www.plasticpals.com on humanoid robotics-related entries? Similar educational websites such as www.androidworld.com and www.razorrobotics.com are allowed, yet they do not have as much information nor are they as well sourced as the articles on www.plasticpals.com. The links to www.plasticpals.com were not added frivolously, this particular website is extremely comprehensive on the subject of humanoid robots. --WilliamsSSessions (talk) 02:45, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi WilliamsSSessions, I've replied to your question here Talk:Robotics#External link removal: Plastic Pals. Danim (talk) 12:27, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Hey, neat category. I added more parents and children. I also proposed what I think is a tweak of the current name at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2011_December_29#Category:Software_by_used_software. – Pnm (talk) 18:54, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi! Of course, I agree with you - the name I had proposed sounded little weird from the beginning :) Thank you for notification. I've added a comment at Categories for discussion page. Regards, Danim (talk) 20:34, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
