I can't do it because you have protected the "Philip J. Kaplan" article.
Regarding the merge, a quick search on Google News will demonstrate that Kaplan is notable for more than Fucked Company. He founded AdBrite, one of the biggest ad networks on the Internet. Kaplan also founded Tweetname.com, Fast140.com, Mobog.com, and a few other notable sites. Kaplan recently joined top venture capital firm, Charles River Ventures (CRV). Among other investments, CRV was the first investor in Twitter.

Well Evans will never win. I don't think he will ever convince any decent riders to submit to him. They probably don't think he's good so they would either support an Armstrong/Contador or do it for themselves. Like last year when Popo appeared to not be trying, unlike when he was with USPS/DISC/AST. If he moves to a strong team the others will probably just put the foot down and seize command. - As I said on fbchat to a cycling friend at the time, this had strong parallels with the Filippo Simeoni thing, at least in the sense that the breakaway were also discouraging someone from being there because their presence only encouraged the leaders to chase them down. Hello Daniel,
I see that you have been monitoring the board candidate page, and thought that you may be the best moderator to contact about consideration for candidacy. How may I go about submitting myself for consideration?
Thank you very much for any help you may provide me.
Cageymickmanus (talk) 02:41, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Candidacies can be submitted at m:Board elections/2009/Candidates/en, but unfortunately you will not be able to run in this election, as you do not meet the candidate requirements listed at m:Board elections/2009/en#Prerequisites to candidacy. We could use some help with an anonymous editor who has been repeatedly deleting valid, relevant photos from Potts Point and always reverting, and is threatening to do a hatchet job on the Sydney suburb articles. Some of us have tried to reason with him but he is very unresponsive. Seems to think photos have no place no matter how relevant or how supported by the text they are. Seems to be one person with two IPs:
User:206.197.59.9, User:220.245.248.12.
Help!
Sardaka (talk) 10:49, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I have been having problems with over use of house images in the Potts point article. I have only removed two images that seem to be of no value. There are plenty of other images in the article so I can't see why this user would be upset over 2 images being removed. In some cases in some of the Sydney suburban articles the only text that supports these images is the address for the house in a list of addresses. Before I do anything drastic I will seek advise from the Australian Wikipedia Notice Board where if an agreement is made the removal of some of these images may be more permanent. Also there is nothing wrong with using 2 ip's especially when it is physically impossible to edit from the same computer 220.245.248.12 (talk) 21:31, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- To be quite honest, although I disagree with the edit warring, I really see no point in adding in random images of non-notable houses in the area. —Dark talk 10:35, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Note that I am only referring to the Tusculum house in the photo gallery. Using a photo to illustrate the architectural designs etc. of the article is relevant, however I really do think the image of your own house is taking it quite overboard... —Dark talk 10:46, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- The changes of page titles should be done with consensus from the talk page. Just because mediation was rejected doesn't mean they can't move the page, if they have consensus; however, the fact that it was rejected doesn't automatically make it open-slather for page moves. Thanks for uploading File:951PurpleRaidersLogo.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:16, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't really know how the category thing worked (re: geogre's sockpuppet template thing) - so apologies for misfiling my poor self, and any confusion that caused. It made me think about the appropriateness of having a 'category' (or rather, having entries in a 'redlinked' cat.) in this context, and on reflection I felt it was a bit rude, so I added the cat= bit of code to Utgard's page too, thus getting rid of the cat. (I think?) - thought I'd let you know... and hope you're good... you're GLAMing it up next week, right? Privatemusings (talk) 01:32, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Daniel, why did you revert me? Some of the posts you removed contain diffs and comments that exonerate Geogre. I'm concerned that material is being removed mid-decision. As things stand, it's entirely unclear what has passed, what hasn't, and whether the Arbs have seen all the evidence. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 05:46, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- a) because you restored already-passed motions b) because you restored people's comments without their approval, which falsley gave the outward appearance that they'd commented on motion 4 when in fact they'd commented on motion 1-3. If you feel some of the diffs exonerate Geogre, present them as evidence in your own section for the new motion; if you want certain people's comments to be copy-pasted onto the new motion, go ask them to do it themselves. Daniel (talk) 06:29, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- How do you know that people were only commenting on certain motions? Most of the statements people posted were general statements, either in Geogre's favor or in opposition. You removed them without their permission, even though the Geogre case is still open. That means the diffs in his favor have disappeared i.e. the evidence has been removed before the case has closed. (Calling something a motion doesn't make it any less of a case.) The way this situation is being handled is really very muddled and almost guaranteed to lead to an unjust outcome, which will then need to be dealt with later. Prevention is better than cure, surely. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 22:20, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Since January 2008 last year, I've been fed up of the flame-fanning by sections of the media, over events involving bad behaviour by a small number of individuals, mainly for personal gain of the belligerents and perpetuated by tabloid (and some allegedly broadsheet) media. Have you ever been to an internet cricket forum and noticed the increase in us vs them rubbish since 2008? Before I only noticed Pakistanis and Indians sledging each other about issues outside of sport, but now the India v Australia one is much worse (at least on the BBC one). At the same time I see some of them cite some of the better and sourced Wikipedia cricket articles, including some GA/FAs to back up their sporting arguments. So in theory, if we develop these bilateral articles with sensible stuff, we can help to purge the sensationalist rubbish that has been drummed into a lot of people's heads by the media, who are trying to spin every cheap shot by any old criminal or cricketer seeking to get around the rules into a war.... A bit idealistic but worth a few hours in my opinion (sending to a few people) YellowMonkey (cricket photo poll!) paid editing=POV 07:49, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- I've fixed it for you. That was more work than I expected; I discovered old vandalism (page blanking) which had been missed in the article's history, then at a later date, some of the original material was added back in. So I had to revert to before the blanking, then, bit by bit, incorporate about 100 changes that had occurred since then back into the article. You'll see the article's links work now, and it is back to its old, fuller form. (There's a bit of a serious OR issue with this page, but it is so well established I will not even question it; it definitely deserves a place here).

- PS If you reply to me; please do it on Wikiquote.
- PPS There was actually no problem with the linking of the alphabet, it was an artefact of the vandalism. All of the entries past the first letter of the Farsi alphabet were blanked, thus their "links" went nowhere. As the Farsi alphabet is right-to-left, the only link that worked was the far right one, linking to the first section of the article. Check the history to see what I mean.

- Hi, thanks for your patience, I was interstate and barely able to edit. To explain the background, I got a request via OTRS (#2009080310015064) to correct the production company information from someone who credibly explained that the current information was wrong. I replied indicating I'd removed the information as it was unsourced, which was an at-the-time satisfactory conclusion. When I got your message and your source, I emailed the person again, pointing out the existence of the source you provided and asking them to pursue having it changed, because I explained we simply report what other people report. I sent that email at 08/05/2009 00:20; I haven't had a response yet, but that may have simply been because of the weekend intervening.
- If it's OK with you, I'd like to give the person I'm corresponding with another two or so days - just so that there's been sufficient weekdays to sort it out - and if I still haven't had a response by then, I'll let you know and you can restore it. Is that OK with you? Once again, I appreciate your patience and understanding with this - I hope the above explanation sheds light on why I am asking for a short delay :) Cheers, Daniel (talk) 00:13, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there,
I uploaded for a Wikipedia article about a week and a half ago and it was flagged because I used the incorrect license tag. The file is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tomwhitman2.jpg
After speaking with someone named Polly, I was able to determine the steps I needed to take to correctly tag the file and gain approval. Based on that info I submitted an email to the Wikimedia permissions email address with a forwarded email from the owner of an image that I uploaded . I added the {{OTRS-Pending}} notice to the image file, and changed the tag to the correct license. A day or so later, the warning was removed about the incorrect usage, but the pending tag remains and I have not heard back from anyone via email. I tried to contact Polly, but it seems as if she has gone away...at least that's what her talk page says. What should my next steps be? How do I know if it has been approved?
Thanks
