Did you know? was updated. On 25 February, 2007, a fact from the article Clouds Blur the Rainbow, which you recently nominated, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page. |
Perhaps you have no reason to believe that I am familiar with many of wikipedia's policies and that is fine. I just wanted to point out that one can review what is going on without making personal contributions. I see nothing but complaints on the discussion pages about how few people there are to help out around here.
And if I am not familiar with a particular topic.... I dont have to actually take the particular discussion. And I believe the best way to learn is to immerse yourself in the subject at hand.
But oh well, wikipedia's loss for now. DanielZimmerman 08:32, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just a quick message to say thank you very much for for extremely polite reply to my application for VP. And happy birthday 1 day in advance! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by -jmac- (talk • contribs) 19:09, 26 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]
- Thanks, and it is much appreciated. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 05:48, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's okay, I wasn't really counting on approval. The problem is that I don't really know much useful information that isn't already in Wikipedia, and lately my only contributions to mainspace are reverts. How can I become a little more useful on Wikipedia even though I do not contribute much information? Jordan Elder talk 19:11, 26 February 2007 (UTC) P.S. Happy birthday.[reply]
- Firstly, thanks for the birthday wishes. Secondly, there are many things you can do on Wikipedia if you are burnt out of writing and vandal-fighting; although not a comprehensive list, Wikipedia backlog outlines some of the stuff we really need done badly; if you want to learn something new and write needed articles in doing so, Wikipedia:Requested articles is extensive; and there are a lot of other little things, like Articles that need to be wikified (see the Manual of Style for information). Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 05:54, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think of this newly-created article? Does it look ready for suggestion at Template talk:Did you know? I am still new to the whole WP:DYK procedures. Thank you for your time. Smee 05:31, 27 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]
- I should probably be able to make something out of it. Cheers, and nice article-writing, Daniel.Bryant 06:01, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Thank you! I have added a teensy bit more material, but hopefully the material gleaned from the 12 sourced-citations will be enough. Thanks again and be well. Cheers, Smee 06:08, 27 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]
- I did a minor cleanup; looking for a free image currently. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 06:12, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Thank you! Let me know if you have any other ideas/suggestions. I did a quick internet search and could not find a free image - my other thought was to do some sort of image-capture of the building from a satellite image as seen if you click on the coordinates link at the top-right of the article, but not sure how to do that... Smee 06:15, 27 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]
- No luck so far, either - I don't know how to do that thing you mention, either. Seeing if I can ping someone who lives near it to go take a photo, but not much luck on that one either :| Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 06:16, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- OK, thanks. I'm going to add a small photo of the Congressman that is "public domain" into the "Tribute" section, but still would be nice to have an actual photo of the building in the infobox, and maybe a couple more... Smee 06:17, 27 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I've gone and found a barnstar lying under a pile of socks you blocked and thought that you might like to have it. I don't blame you for being angry but I hope that you can overcome others' short-sightedness and find value in staying here. Best wishes, Mackensen (talk) 00:31, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good evening (GMT time); Daniel - what is happening here? I had you down as the mature Wikipedian, not one that lies down to others. You can do no good away from the screen for a place that can only contacted in front of your computer.
Please return - your one of our newest admins, passing with 100% support - and I think it is clear we need you!
In the meanwhile, I can leave only one final quote:
"...what is this fresh hell?..."

- Me too please, if it isn't private. I've always looked up to you as an experienced and admirable editor, what's the problem? In any case, I never expected this from one of our finest wikipedians. · AO Talk 01:09, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Woah: you are the coolest guy I know on Wikipedia...you were the one who reviewed me and got me in the right path to a successful rfa just weeks ago. What's the matter; I really care and I know others do too. If you wouldn't mind...email me. Please. ~ Arjun 01:46, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I hope you're just blowing off a little steam but basically all right. Tempers have been running hot lately all of the place--I'm not sure why. I'll say to you the same thing I said to Essjay--I would urge you to continue doing the great work you do as always and ignore the pettiness, but I also understand if you'd rather stay away for a bit. In any case, let me know, here or by e-mail, if there's anything I can do. Chick Bowen 03:38, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I hope this is just temporary. We all understand if you want to stay away for a bit to cool off. Take care, and I hope whatever's gone wrong manages to resolve itself. E-mail's open. Cheers, – riana_dzasta 03:43, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Following based on the assumption that this is about the discussion on WP:CN. If not, please ignore.
I'll take a different view and say that this is somewhat childish. Policy discussions, uproars, even trolling, happen all the time. If people who we rely on for jobs that need to be done timely (to the extent that we ban other people from doing them) leave the project at the first sign of trouble, then the clerking system is obviously not working as it should and maybe really needs to be changed. Zocky | picture popups 05:36, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- That said, taking a breather is always helpful, and I hope you change your mind and come back. Zocky | picture popups 05:38, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Ah, I see you've come to the same conclusion yourself :) Good for everybody. Glad to have you back. Zocky | picture popups 05:57, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- As I noted above a minute ago, I will make a statement tomorrow regarding this whole mess; in the interum, I posted an apology and clarification at CN. However, thanks for your support, and I will need to speak to you, Brad, regarding an issue of importance later tonight (Aus time). But thanks again for all your support, guys, and cheers, Daniel Bryant 07:36, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Seriously though, you can't let people like that get to you. Kelly Martin did, and now she's just a sideliner. There will always be people out there who will be jealous of people who can do shit on Wikipedia that they can't, or who love "refactoring discussion pages where appropriate" (i.e. taking a cannon to the comments they disagree with) and hate arbitration/checkuser pages for their lack of "refactorability" by non-clerks. They just want to be able to mess with more stuff, to have less on Wikipedia that they can't muck with and control. In the end, it's what the arbitrators think that matters, since it's just a convenience for them (right?) and they're not going to listen to envious outbursts like these, so just ignore the anti-clerks and do what you do best. If you need a break I don't blame you, but I hope you come back. Milto LOL pia 05:50, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, some controversy must have brewed while I was asleep; what happened? Something with clerks? —Signed, your friendly neighborhood MessedRocker. 11:08, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the heads-up on David Lauder's complaint. This is all related to the AfD abuse by Astrotrain that started a few weeks ago. Neither side is particularly happy with me right now, which I take to mean I'm doing OK :) | Mr. Darcy talk 14:31, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Will you look over User:Thatcher131/temp and let me know what you think (fix anything that needs fixing, etc). Also, I think the CU clerks' list needs to be updated, and could probably do without the footnotes (despite your fondness for wikitables). Thatcher131 20:16, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I think I have located Clerks Cabal HQ here. Daniel, welcome back. E-mail me sometime. Thatcher, while you're looking at clerks' lists, we have someone on our ArbClerk list who hasn't edited at all in over a year (in fact, I never heard of him prior to reviewing the list), so we might want to update there as well. Regards, Newyorkbrad 20:18, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Thatcher, I responded on your talk yesterday; Brad, as you probably know (unless you got smashed last night and forgot what you did yesterday :D), we finally found a mutual medium to chat on :) And about the clerk list, it appears TT updated it. Again, thank you so much for all of your help so far. Here is a new article for a potential WP:DYK... Cults of Unreason, something interesting about how later writers and scholars referred to weird groups and UFO cults as "cults of unreason", and the phrase stuck over the years. I managed to dig up 12 citations, trying to find more places that talk about the book to add more material... Please let me know what you think. Yours, Smee 12:19, 1 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]
- OK, I've expanded it. Smee 13:08, 1 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]
- There is now a nice subsection in the article about how the book's title spawned widespread academic use of the phrase: "cults of unreason" Smee 04:11, 2 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]
- Ooohh, perfect DYK material. Give me a sec to sort out this RFCU thing, and I'll be right there. Cheers, Daniel Bryant 04:12, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- No prob. While you're at it, also new article, Religion Inc., not sure what fact to use from there, or if there are more facts out there to find citations for... Smee 04:15, 2 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]
- The latter is probably a bit stubby for DYK; the former is beautiful, and I'll add it right now (sorry, yesterday was very hectic and I didn't get time to have a look). Cheers, Daniel Bryant 02:24, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
