[edit]Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Overlanding. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. - Consider this a final warning. WP:ELNO is quite clear that the link you keep adding is inappropriate for an encyclopedia. It is also inappropriate to add links to sites in which you have a conflict of interest, especially if it's self-published material that you created. Please read our guideline Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for further information.
- While you are welcome to discuss the addition of your link on talk pages, adding it again will result in your account being blocked as a spam-only account, and possibly your site being blacklisted.
- Bear in mind that an online encyclopedia does not need external links. Those are just a convenience. It matters more if you actually make improvements to the project instead of linking to other sites. Thanks. ~Amatulić (talk) 01:33, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
- Point taken. Thanks. It's worth noting this is the only warning I ever recieved (you and Biker Biker posted only hours apart). Do I only get one? -Dangrec (talk) 01:37, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
- The answer is "it depends". Obviously spam-only accounts are often blocked without any warning at all. You've engaged with others on talk pages, which suggests you are acting in good faith, but your comments indicated (to me) that you didn't fully understand the situation, which is why I left a second message to you above for clarification. If you already had gotten the message, I apologize for the redundant warning.
- You are welcome to improve any articles where you have knowledge about the topic, but please exercise extreme caution when entering into conflict-of-interest territory. This would include linking to any site you are associated with or citing material you wrote. ~Amatulić (talk) 01:59, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks Amatulic. I'm still a little surprized that a link to an FAQ on the exact topic of a very brief article is not seen as improving Wikipeida. To that end, I've created a discussion on the External Links Noticeboard.
- Thanks again, -Dangrec (talk) 02:22, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
