Bands list

Dan, I've been thinking about the list and the discussion a few weeks back and came up with User:Moondyne/bands. Whaddya think? —Moondyne 06:52, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Dan, I moved the table into your user space as its really your thing and there's no sense in trying to maintain two lists. —Moondyne 04:12, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Weed Out

Could you review Talk:Weed Out#Title? I'm not sure if Weed Out is the right name for the article, and I know that you are much more familiar with The Stems than I am. Thanks! ~ BigrTex 21:47, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

On the matter of "chronology" - a chronology indicates a timeline, a series, or sequence, of events indexed by time. They are typically ordered, usually from earliest to latest. If this is an acceptable definition, then I cannot see why the chronology should not contain ALL releases by an artist, rather than just one type of release. Sa cooke 13:59, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Asg_group01.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Asg_group01.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:55, 1 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 19:55, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Raven Records Logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Raven Records Logo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn 17:14, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Please also consider using article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. MER-C 09:58, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your contribution to my sadbox article. I felt confidant after that to move it to an stub article V Capri. I hope you can add your references where an editor has called for citations. It should become a popular article knowing my crowd at school in the 1970's.petedavo 02:12, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

The reason that I belive that the article is notable is as follows:

Dan arndt 01:14, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

 • In response - none of the above seem to provide notability. Re 2 - can it be proven from a reliable source independent of the subject that these bands were on that label at the time they became notable (if they in fact did)? I've seen reference to at least one band which is actually on Firestarter and had to remove from the list. Re 3 - notability by association only. Re 4 - didn't win the award, so the notability value of the particular award aside, it wouldn't confer notability to this particular entity. The question is purely whether it is encyclopaedic, not whether it is a good label, etc. In order to satisfy Wikipedia's notability criteria it needs to be the subject of non-trivial independent coverage by a reliable source, and most of the above (apart from the WAM stuff) is speculative/subjective in scope. Orderinchaos 01:19, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
 • My apologies re the notification issue - I had assumed this was the same as two other articles I'd prodded where it was not clear who had created the article as it then stood. In response, I'd point out that the measure you took to revert my prod (rather than simply remove it) on This Vital Chapter (which will also go to AfD, like QStik Records, once I have finished this message) is normally used for either self-reversion or vandalism - I realise you probably weren't aware of this, so thought I would make you aware. As an admin from Perth, it's my job to alert the community to articles which don't (or in some cases can't) meet the criteria for remaining as an article on Wikipedia - the fact is Perth has a very small scene and it does take a lot to establish notability. The active disinterest of the West in local music doesn't help either. Orderinchaos 01:36, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
 • This is incorrect - I apologised re the first one which was an oversight, primarily because the second and third ones were *not* created by yourself (although now that I look through, you were a significant contributor). Considering my first instinct was to speedy-delete This Vital Chapter per CSD G12 and QStik Records per CSD A7, I felt I was being fair by proposing it for deletion to allow room for objection, which it received within about 10 hours. Your contributions on WA music are noticed and valued by the community, but with these particular ones and a few related (which I understand were ones you worked on a long time ago) they clearly fail WP:N and WP:RS. Orderinchaos 01:57, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Notability

Music related articles always seem to have large numbers that are on the cusp of notability. And when we start talking about bands and albums which don't have any or a significant national presence it'll be even moreso. It's a challenge for all of us to interpret and stay within the guidelines and to demonstrate notability in all cases. Orderinchaos is absolutely correct in challenging that when he sees it lacking and the onus is on the creator to put up. Dan, keep doing what your doing and don't get bitter and twisted. —Moondyne 04:04, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Panda Band

Looks fine to me. Check WP:MUSIC for some guidelines...— Selmo (talk) 18:01, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Regarding QStik Records

You can consider arguing along the lines of the bands they are the label of. If enough bands under them are significantly notable, you can say it makes the label inherently notable as well.--Kylohk 09:25, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

There is no independent sources for that information. I have actually checked with people concerned before making the above edit, so I am on fairly safe ground here. FFC were with Congregation since the first commercially available EP. Please do not re-insert incorrect information into the article. Orderinchaos 03:38, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
I would have thought that the band's own website would have been accurate enough - check [1] which clearly shows that their debut EP released in 2000 was on the QStik Records label (Catalogue No.QSFFC0006). Similarly Dyslexic Fish's album Mission:Inappropriate was released in April 2003 under the QStik label (check Australia Music Online Catalogue No. QS011). I'd be interested to know where your sources come form as I have been able to verify these details independently which I can't say the same for you. Dan arndt 03:56, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on QStik Records. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content which gains a consensus among editors. Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/This Vital Chapter. Your edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Removing others comments from an AfD is highly inappropriate, particularly one so contentious to you. If you don't like what is said, then challenge it in a manner which assumes good faith and keeps the angry mastodons at bay. Deleting those comments is censorship, and will not be tolerated. Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Picturebook-rollerskates.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. 1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

Fair use rationale for Image:Gurus 80s.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Gurus 80s.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Gurus 80s.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. Cyclic Defrost

Whilst I don't have a particular strong view on whether Cyclic Defrost should be included on Template :Australianmusic I find it curious that one of the main supporters is Fortunegrey who's only contributions appear to be on the Cyclic Defrost article or providing links on other musical articles to Cyclic Defrost. Is it my suspicious nature but could he possible be a Cyclic Frost contributor and hence why is pushing it be included. As previously stated nobody I know in music in Western Australia or South Australia is familar with Cyclic Defrost - probably 'cause its circulation is only 5.000 copies and released three times a year. Dan arndt 08:42, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

That contributor is a SPA. I also don't have a particularly strong view regarding the inclusion of CD on the template, except that it is too large already. These maxi-templates seem to be everywhere and the people who keep enlarging them seem to be missing the point of what they're there for. ie. a navigation aid. Articles should link usefully, not spamfully. They uglify the prose. Another shocker is Template:Indigenous Australians. —Moondyne 09:32, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
WP:SPA. Sorry. —Moondyne 09:50, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Archiving

There's basically two ways of doing it. See Help:Archiving a talk page which discusses advanatages and disadvantages of each method.

 1. The easiest is probably to just move the page to a new archive page. ie. Move User talk:Dan arndt → User talk:Dan arndt/Archive 1. Note that this leaves behind a #REDIRECT tag in your talk page which you'll need to remove manually.
 2. Go into edit mode on your talk page and cut and paste into a archive page. eg. User talk:Dan arndt/Archive 1

I prefer the latter. I also have bot tags on my talk page which automatically archives conversation older than 5 days into my latest archive.

If you want, I'll set it all up for you. —Moondyne 00:53, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

That archives template is pretty clever - it automatically lists all the archive pages found. Is that OK? —Moondyne 05:46, 15 August 2007 (UTC) You need to updatet the "|counter = ?" to the next archive number whenever you want the bot to start writing to a new archive. —Moondyne 05:58, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah g,day

I been checking some of the arts of musos and their mates and I sorta think that lead sentences like dissa one orta get punctured with a bloody axe:

"X' were a band who played in the Sydney live music scene in the early 1980s who also had a couple of national chart hits and received national airplay.

Just an idea to check about lead sentences - there is no link about australia or sydney where or anything. Nothing against you or your mates who find these god foraseken musos - but national repeated - and what bloody national? timbucktoo? nah -

X was a band from Sydney, Australia(maka d links!). They played the live music scene and achieved national attention in the 1980s.

Just an idea - maybe i got da lead sentence blues, and dem sparks of da highly literate eds and their brilliant english need a kicka up da.... Worth checking arts that you ed - just check is it really a lead sentence at the beginning? nah? well give it the treatment I say- cheers SatuSuro 02:19, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Groove 101.7 is the same - a lead sentence in the making - but some links would be a very good idea, imho (ok some others mightnt) otherwise where the hell does it link to? This aint a personal thing - I just happened to lurk in the obscure and suddenly i find this stuff - thought id drop a line just in case you o even more obscure pathways and find stuff that can get a better lead in SatuSuro 02:23, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Ross McLarty also. Two names I can now cross off my to-do list. —Moondyne 05:51, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

When I said "excellent, well done", it turns out I actually meant "dreadful, terribly done", as this is not your own work but rather a copy of the ADB, and therefore a copyright violation.

I haven't had a great deal to do with you, so before I go postal on you, can you explain to me how you could possibly not realise that copying other people's work into Wikipedia is (a) dishonest; (b) illegal; and (c) a policy violation?

Hesperian 11:46, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Dan, I already started reworking Ross McLarty and it wouldn't take too much more work there to resolve the copyright issue. Unfortunately I don't have much time today, but he and Mitchell does need to be sorted out. —Moondyne 01:38, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Theids rel 2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Theids rel 2.jpg.

Fair use disputed for Image:JB Intermezzo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:JB Intermezzo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:23, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Australian Melodrama.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Australian Melodrama.jpg.

Thanks for uploading Image:Dungeon Tape-triffids.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Fair use disputed for Image:Sp-disco king.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Sp-disco king.jpg.

Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:34, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of QStik Records, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: User:Dan arndt/sandbox/QStik Records. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 08:32, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:30, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

CorenSearchBot 01:05, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Perth, WA

There has been more recent comment at the Perth, WA and the project noticeboard about the stuff you had to initially cope with when you started your music material - you might want to check them as I think there might be something that ties in with what you have been doing. Sorry in a rush - hope I am not as incomprehensible as the last message some time back - sorry for that! Hi Dan, thanks for letting me about your list (which looks good, by the way). To be honest, as I think i mentioned to you earlier I should probably stay away from music articles as my knowledge of popular music finishes at about 1996! My interest is more in improving the main Perth article and the big list of bands unbalanced that a lot. I don't really have any interest in the future of the list, although I will say that your list of Western Australia bands is much more useful than the list I hived off from the main article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mattinbgn (talkcontribs) 08:27, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

I cannot for the life of me work out how this article is a copyright violation it doesn't resemble the reference you have cited ['All Music Guide'] at all - the basic facts are the same but thats only becuase they are historical and not in dispute. I would appreciate it if you could clarify exactly where this copyright violation exists and I would be happy to correct it. Dan arndt 05:50, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to set off all this controversy; I honestly wasn't taking the piss. I only skimmed it, and saw this part at the end:
Although The Someloves only released one album and remain virtually unknown on an international level Both Mather and Mariani did remain active in the Australian rock scene, Mather going on to The Orange Humble Band, and Mariani to DM3 and the instrumental group the Majestic Kelp, also recording a solo album in 2004.
Something Or Other is widely considered one of the essential power-pop recordings and is highly regarded among power pop collectors. It's re-release in 2006 as a two CD complitation Don't Talk About Us: The Real Pop Recordings of the Someloves 1985-89, includes complete with a critical review of Mariani and Mather's inter-related stories, substantial interviews and a bonus disc of non-album singles and remixes. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
about 1/4 of which is straight from the AMG bio. With the inclusion of Richie's credit at the end there (which has since been removed) I leaped to conclusions and tagged it up. Still, the article is quite the quote farm; any chance of getting most of that removed? That was why I tagged it with the mag tag (that and some of the writing, most of which has been cleaned up). I can do a copy-edit myself, but didn't have the time when I originally tagged it. Again, sorry for causing all this hubub. Precious Roy 13:25, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

No worries. Above is looking good. Well done. —Moondyne 04:56, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Dan, I noticed you recreated this article which was deleted after a previous discussion. After some news and websearching I've marked the page for deletion as the label still fails to have any reliable third-party sources talking primarily about it. - Peripitus (Talk) 10:35, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Dan, I've listed this for a deletion discussion (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/QStik Records (2nd nomination), as I think it needs a wider view. Per my comments at the first discussion Qstick seems to fail the primary notability requirement of them having been primarily written about. They seem to have attracted very little attention which makes it impossible to have a verifyable article - Peripitus (Talk) 11:19, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for the following images

Thanks for uploading the images below.

Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:00, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Cartman (band)

An article that you have been involved in editing, Cartman (band), has been listed for deletion. If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cartman (band). Thank you. Endless Dan 13:02, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

The band does meet a number of the notability criteria in that:
 1. the band has been subject of multiple non-trivial independent published works.
 2. the band has toured nationally around Australia.
 3. has been nominated and won several awards/music competitions.
 4. has had a song used in a national television show.
 5. has had songs placed in ration nationally by a major radio network.

As such I believe the band satisfies the notability criteria and should be retained.
For the record I have no connection with the band or any of the band members. Dan arndt 01:03, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Cartman(band-pic).jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Cartman(band-pic).jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information.

Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn 16:41, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Rationales

A bit of this madness has been going around. Better tip you off - the criteria the bot is looking for is the rationale not containing "Fair use in article name". If it's an album cover or a band logo (not a band photo), feel free to pinch from the following rationale:

 1. It is the only possible image that could illustrate the information at hand
 2. It was not created by a wikipedia user nor was it created before 1923, and therefore could not be made into a free image
 3. There is no detriment to the band's right to exercise their copyright on their work by the image being on Wikipedia.
 4. It appears only on an article dealing critically with the music found on the above album.

We may disagree on some things, but out-of-control Wikiprocess I think we can agree on. Orderinchaos 03:04, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Actually, on looking, I see you've got a rationale happening - but still needs the "in (article)", probably needs to say "critical or educational" and make a reference to the 1923 thing. I've done The Final Wave and a couple of others. Orderinchaos 03:21, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
No worries, I've been following the issue on AN/I and on IRC, so that's how I knew what they were looking for this time. I'm just waiting to see what obscure reasons for deletion they come up with next (i.e. in a couple of months). Orderinchaos 04:39, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Cockburnlogo.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Cockburnlogo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Album Formatting

It’s not that I’m unaware of that particular point of style on Wikipedia, rather that I think people here are being far too literal about it and thoughtlessly imposing a style that really makes no sense. On top of that, I was, in one way or another, involved in the creation of several pages related to the Blackeyed Susans that I ensured were internally consistent, that weren’t (in my opinion and for reasons that will become clear) out of line with the style, and that I found later were no longer consistent because of such changes (which I therefore reverted).

Saying all of that as someone who only registered on Tuesday, I should probably explain myself. First, though I’m not actually working as an editor at a moment, my entire working career has been spent in communications – my responsibilities have included writing style sheets for several magazines. Second, I’ve always gone out of my way to apply the sixth – and by far the most important – of Orwell’s five rules. Paraphrased, Orwell’s sixth states that you should break any of the previous five rules rather than say anything that’s avoidably ugly.

Now, I happen to think that the liberal use of "square quotes" rather than “typographer’s quotes” around Wikipedia is ugly in itself. And though I wouldn’t in any case choose that style myself (preferring the use of italics for both song and album titles) I will concede that it serves a purpose. But that’s only when it’s used in body copy, where the quotes alert the reader to the fact that what he or she is looking at is a title rather than part of the writer’s argument.

In a list, however, they serve no purpose at all, since it is already obvious from the context that the material in quotes is a title. They are therefore avoidably ugly and should be deleted.

Which brings me to the style guide. Last time I checked, the relevant section read as follows.

Songs and singles are placed in "quotation marks", album titles are italicized and artists are left alone, with punctuation outside quotation marks, for example:

The Beatles' songs "Taxman", "Eleanor Rigby" and "Love You To" are from their album Revolver.

It’s quite clear in this example that the albums style guide is talking about the use of quotes in body copy, and it therefore makes no comment at all on how titles should be formatted in lists. And that brings us back to Orwell’s sixth and my deletion of the quote marks.

If you happen to know how I should go about raising this with the people responsible for Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums, I’d love to know. Those quote marks jar horribly. --BlueThird 14:56, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Chad’s Tree

Afraid that my knowledge of Chad’s Tree, The Jackson Code and Martha’s Vineyard is basically zero to non-existent. My interest in the Susans comes from my love of David McComb’s work, and because I was in the UK at the time it never really widened from the Susans to the rest of those groups. That said, I’m a regular poster at The Triffids’ forum and might be able to rustle up some interest from people there who certainly would know about them. And I’d be happy to cast an editorial eye across the results, if that’s of any use.

With The Blackeyed Susans stuff, I’ve changed the quotes back to how I had them (since it was easier to achieve consistency that way) and done my best to ensure that they’re consistent across all of the Susans pages. I’ve also taken track times across to the main discography page and made a few other minor changes (mainly swapping hyphens for en-rules). Hopefully I’ll have some time later today to post my thoughts at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums and will follow the debate with interest!

Incidentally, what’s the story with Cockburn City? Until yesterday I had no idea that I share my surname with a football club! --BlueThird 05:23, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Chad's Tree

I'm afraid I'm on the same lines as Blue Third on this; I came to BES via David McComb also and didn't investigate his other collaborators. I was in the UK when the Triffids broke out of Australia and in Australia when the first couple of BES EPs came out, seeing them live in Sydney (sadly sans McComb) once. I have the Martha's Vineyard album and a single so I might be able to bodge something together for them but I don't think it'd be worth it as it wouldn't be even vaguely authoritative. Some Night, Somewhere - Blackeyed Susans

I'll check when I get home. As far as I recall the only information is what I put in the album sidebar. EkeW 15:13, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Yep, Continental Cafe, Melbourne is all it says on the sleeve as far as location goes (I notice that I originally put Electric Cafe for some strange reason but Blue Third kindly corrected it for me). EkeW 09:15, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Downsyde albums

Dan, it would be inappropriate to close an AfD after a request to do so from one of the supporters. I've voted to keep, which is the best I can do and I guess is what a neutral closer will determine. The only reason it hasn't been closed already is that only 3 editors had commented before me and its difficult to gauge consensus on just that. —Moondyne 12:53, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Brightblack.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Brightblack.jpg.

Thank you. Rettetast 08:14, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Comment

This will sound incredibly anal, because it is. But each of those rationales needs to be "Fair use... (etc) for Calenture (album)". The bot thinks "The article isn't directly linked from the rationale, so I'll mark it for deletion". You'd think that intelligence could be built into it, and I wonder what is happening with album covers which aren't in our domain (i.e. other countries). So yes, it will look odd, but it will keep roving bots away. Orderinchaos 10:19, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for blah blah blah

Thanks for the tip. I find it very difficult to bring myself to care to be frank - it's certainly put me off bothering to create any more pages! I'll keep up with the ones I get notified of as they come through and do my best to correct them. EkeW 14:58, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Ha ha, I didn't mean I won't - just that it put me off. I don't mind the bots when they're looking for something sensible but this instance of adding a link to the page that the picture's used in is just plain imbecilic. Hey ho...
Anyway, I might be able to get a scan of the cover for Hard Liquor, Soft Music so, if it turns up, I'll see if I can get that one right first time! EkeW 11:47, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Heathen Songs.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Heathen Songs.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use.

Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:34, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

The Silents

You edit to The Silents article was undone, as using non-free images goes against Wikipedia official policy. Please refer to item #1 under the "Acceptable images" section for clarification. If you're able to find a free version of this image, feel free to use that instead, but the licensing for this image does not allow it. Cheers and happy editing.  Esradekan Gibb  "Talk" 03:57, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Downsyde.gif

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Downsyde.gif. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of descrption pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 03:45, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
