Orphaned non-free media (Image:Bs-walk.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bs-walk.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:05, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Simon Binks recent edits

[edit]

I have edited out much recent material to Simon Binks supplied by user(s) with "SB" by-line: User talk:Simonjbinks contribs and User 124.176.227.115, User 124.180.152.104, User 124.181.173.130 and User 124.180.206.210. AC GAN

[edit]

Checked dead links.

I think we need more refs for after split especially for JR's solo stuff. Should we mention his son is an actor or is it only relevant to JR's own article?Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 03:09, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agree re: Jaime-Robbie.
viz RS 100 best albums try Liberation Blue but may be biased (JR's record co. eg erroneously cites Boys as reaching #1). The list appeared in 1997 (some other sites confirm the year but only cite the sponsored artist not the whole list).
Had another read of Jenkins/Meldrum book (see above) and it is JR who believes album Semantics was not promoted due to drug use by a band member (not specified but implication is Guy) "tarred them all with the same brush". However the passage states that the album was not released in US! So maybe we can't use this part: "Reckless" is described, and Molly has "Beautiful People" as a most memorable debut appearance.
The Great Australian Songbook has both "Boys" and "Reckless".Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:27, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

HG discog

[edit]

Thanks for the heads-up: I hadn't heard.

I'm not sure why we don't have better release dates for some of the latter compilations/live albums. Does Kent help?

BTW do you think the studio album table should have an extra column for US college / alternative music chart posi? I know you how much you love working with wikitables: so I'll let you decide.

Did you ever find out anything about a possible Brazilian only single? "Night Must Fall": Dave talks about it in his Pop&Punishment]. Otherwise why is it on Ampology? If it was a Brazilian single what was its B-side?Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:44, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:DarkNebula1.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:DarkNebula1.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 15:33, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Crawl article

[edit]

OK, I've done some copy editing on the 1975-1979 section. I actually performed rather more substantial surgery than I'd anticipated, so might be worth casting your eye over it and querying me about any contentious changes before I plough on with the next few sections. (Though looking at them I've realised one reason why I found the first mention of Countdown odd: no broken wrists! Suggests that material might need to be moved around a bit between sections.) Gusworld (talk) 10:18, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've had a go at some of Gusworld's suggestions on AC: more to do.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:39, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

HG discog

[edit]

I'm willing to assist further on HG discog but some independent pointers to improvements would help. Are there any reviewers for GLCs? Or do we just compare it to existing GLs and do our best? I see the Lead is getting very big: when does it become too big?Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 01:27, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've tried to find GL discographies but only find B grade lists then right up to FL with none in between. Could you point me to some?Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 01:42, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've had a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Discographies and found Powderfinger discography (FL) (and lots of other FLs) and AC/DC discography (FLN) and a few more FLNs.
The wikitable from that page summarises no. of articles per class and has:
There's no GL group here. I tried Category:GA-Class Discography articles but found no examples. The A list is empty too.
So are we gonna be first GL? Or like everyone else are we actually going from B straight to FL here?Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 03:08, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Back to actual content: when exactly did HG regroup: you've got them re-forming in early 2003 and reforming in November. Check spelling inconsistency. Remember they also performed at Homebake and elsewhere after the official disbandment. I'd go with officially reforming in November 2003: they were under a new recording contract, and the previous activities as briefly re-combined (there was no intention to continue past the particular appearance / recording).Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:53, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Daddy Cool / Ross Wilson

[edit]

Both are ARIA HoF but their articles need some work. I'm starting with DC at my sandbox you're welcome to join in if you're not to occupied elsewhere.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:00, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good to see your additions. I'm ready to transfer the first major edit over to DC. I've put an intention to improve comment on its talkpage.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:31, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm having trouble with "Eagle Rock" - how many weeks was it #1? Kent gives ten weeks according to List of number-one singles in Australia during the 1970s, ARIA at the HoF said eight weeks, Official website bio goes for eleven weeks (used in "Eagle Rock" article), I've seen other values too... The Lead goes for eight: I thought ARIA should know what they're talking about at such an important occasion, the main text later goes for ten (from earlier edit) the ref here is an ABC photo caption but I believe Kent has the same and is more reliable. Is the accepted standard ARIA or do we go with Kent? If it is ten weeks then they still hold the record for longest stay at #1 by an Australian act.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:52, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the input at DC, I've been working on my sandbox version (I've just updated it with your discog stuff from main DC article). I'm trying to get the previous bands section done.
I'll leave "Eagle" at ten weeks, it just seems curious that ARIA would get it so wrong for the HoF induction. I'm not sure whether to include claimed inspiration for Elton John's "Crocodile Rock".Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:08, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Finished 2nd major edit and put it into main article. Lead & previous bands should now look better. Getting into Original Line-up section next at my sandbox.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:49, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

3rd major edit into main article; I've now rated it as Start class: more needed on individual subsections but it should now be in better shape. I'll continue with this at my sandbox and add major edits from time to time.

BTW, "Crocodile Rock" suggests "Eagle" as inspiration but has no ref. Taupin wearing a Daddy Who? badge on Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player album cover is not sufficient to support the inference: I'm still looking for a reliable ref.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:36, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

4th major edit into main article: from now on my sandbox is finished: I'll add my changes straight to main article. I believe the article is nearly B class: a good photo would help, some fiddling with subsections especially 1975: Second separation and 2005-current.
Re: "Eagle" & "Crocodile" would Daddy Cool's ARIA HoF induction announcement be sufficiently reliable reference? They say "Such were the ripples created by this song around the globe that Elton John and Bernie Taupin quoted Eagle Rock as the prime inspiration for the massive hit Crocodile Rock."
I would prefer an actual interview with either John or Taupin but ARIA anouncement would be next best.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 01:54, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wilson was overseas when John visited Australia on his tour. See SMH article for Wilson's description of how he wrote "Eagle".Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:47, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RW

[edit]

I notice you've started at RW: good work! I assume you found his full name at APRA? I looked up "Eagle Rock" and got WILSON ROSS ANDREW for comparison I looked up "Too Hot to Move" and got MCCOMB DAVID RICHARD (DECD). I'd say RW's full name is Ross Andrew Wilson (I have a feeling he had a band/album called RAW but can't find it yet to point you to it). "Eagle Rock" and John

[edit]

I'd go for the ARIA HoF induction notice which is more neutral (although still may be biased towards big-noting Aussie acts) than quoting RW. Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 01:27, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

HG discog wikitables

[edit]

I'm having trouble with these f*%kin! wikitables at my sandbox copy. What I'm trying to do is add a Certified column to albums charts where certified entries were made in the Notes section. When I add such a column it does not display properly. I know you luurrrve wikitables even more than I do but could you cast a glance at them and see what you can do?Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:56, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS the Notes col in the last two tables appears too wide but don't appear any different on my browser when I reduce their size.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:59, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've finally got the *custard* wikitables to accept a Certified column with the right colour background. I was missing a few ! instead of | So I'll have to go to remedial wikitabling 101 and do some catch-up classes: I hope Gordon's not running the lessons again.
I've also fiddled with col widths trying to get them more synchronous. But not much luck on my Browser. I think you could give Drewcifer (talk) a buzz to say we think we've covered the main points.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:53, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mighty Kong

[edit]

Good to see Mighty Kong up off the floor and fighting for recognition. I'm still working on RW at my my sandbox copy; I transfer over to main article every so often. [edit]

I notice you've done a lot of work at Ross Hannaford, I'm still going at RW. Is it possible that Hanna's middle name is also Andrew? Try ASCAP search on "Bom Bom".Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:05, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2008 ARIA HoFrs

[edit]

ARIA has named first two of five ARIA Hofrs at July 1 (+ one later in year at ARIA Awards): Russell Morris and Dragon have been announced.[1][2]

  1. ^ Cashmere, Paul (2008-05-17). "Dragon and Russell Morris to be Inducted into ARIA Hall of Fame". undercover.com.au. Retrieved 2008-05-17.
  2. ^ Mangan, John (2008-05-18). "Old rockers never die, says ARIA". The Age. Retrieved 2008-05-20. {{cite news}}: Check date values in: |date= (help); Italic or bold markup not allowed in: |publisher= (help)

RM is currently rated as stub class: IMO its already Start class but needs refs & beefing up. Dragon is already at Start class: I've been fiddling there from time to time but it needs more refs & beefing up too.

I'm happy we've got DC & RW up to B class. I intend to chase the Dragon's tail now and try to get the Feng to shui. If you have time the Real Thing could be for you.

Aside: I see you're tracking HG discogs to FL: seems too confusing for me. (And I thought wikitables were confusing!).Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:01, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with all you've just said about HoF, but will take it one small step at a time. First the Dragon's tale then the other HoFs.
Query: APRA top 10? Or top 30? If latter, I don't think they actually released an ordered list for lower 20 out of the top 30: but many websites give posis for non-top 10s where there are none. I remember chasing down "I Was Only Nineteen" by Redgum. See Rate Your Music list.

Hi Dan, as is my custom, I've replied to your message on my talk page. Personally, I find it distracting trying to keep track of multiple threads over different pages and so like to keep single discussions on the page they started on. Regards, Astral (talk) 07:47, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dan, sorry I've not managed to get much work done on Russel Morris. Life dumped a whole load of things in my lap. I'm going to be reading the PDF linked below and adding it as a reference where needed in the article. Cheers, Astral (talk) 09:45, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

APRA Top 30

[edit]

I've had a go at wikitable one (Top Ten) could you add chart posies? NZ chart col included as its Australasian.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:18, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2nd wikitable up (next 20) - again I'm leaving the posies for you.
Suggestion: a lot of the publishers could go Publ. &/or Aus. to shorten their entry.
I've entered songs by chrono (when song was written) & gave notable performers only e.g. The Bushwackers (1976) Eric Bogle (1983) for "And the band..." (too many other versions otherwise).
For "My Island Home" I've included Neil Murray version but can't find first release (under his own name).
IMO, keep peak chart positions. They display popularity of the song when released, it may not be a major criterion but is certainly a factor in rating a song as the best of all time. It will also highlight songs of poor chart success but still in the list: why would the panel believe them to be so important when the public of the time did not? It hinges on a song's worthiness and impact beyond its time.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:45, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's the sort of thing I'm talking about too. Another e.g. LRB's "Cool Change" c.f. "Help is on its Way" (Aus #1) or "Reminiscing" (US #3). Nevertheless I'll let you decided whether to keep the columns or not: you're right that its not the main focus of the article.

RM at ARIA HoF page

[edit]

ARIA have finally got their HoF page running. You can check RM's bio & downloadable as a pdf. I'm reading through Dragon's bio.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 08:57, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dragon's bio at ARIA is an edit of an earlier article written by Glenn A. Baker: there's no direct mention of drug/alcohol problems in the ARIA bio. Baker is one of the HoF panel at ARIA. I'm not sure if he also wrote RM's bio at ARIA.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 03:38, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chasing the Dragon

[edit]

I've finished my major editing of Dragon and have rated it at B-class. It still needs a good photo, more on impact on other Oz/NZ groups. When you've got spare time (as if!) could you check alb & single AUS posies for Dragon's wikitables?

I wait eagerly to see RM get there too.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 08:43, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

HoF

[edit]

Haven't seen any other 2008 inductees yet, so I'm heading back in Time. Nick Cave & Radio Birdman articles are already B-class.

So I'm going for Brian Cadd even though it is already rated as B-class for Australian-related topics - it does not have ONE in-line reference! I think the standards must be slipping... (where's that Longhair?) Its rated as Start-Class for Biography (by some bloke called Dan arndt). Whilst the content is good, it needs more refs and subsectioning to get to B-class in all areas.

Its gonna take some time so if any new HoFs are announced I might not get to them.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 12:03, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All sounds good: have fun with RM, I'm about 1/2-3/4 way through BC. I've found good sources in McF, Milesago and Howlspace (they tend to re-inforced each other).Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 03:59, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick one: was he born 1914 or 1917? Cat has former, main part of article has latter.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:18, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Brian Cadd

[edit]

BC is getting better, thanks for your inputs, but still needs some more copyediting, which I'll get to in the next day or so. Also needs a "Personal life" subsection: is he married does he have kiddlies, does he have notable kin etc?Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 09:30, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've done a little more at BC and believe its up to B-class, I'm having a rest from HoFs for awhile: hope you enjoy getting RM & others up to scratch.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 03:44, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dragon tail tales

[edit]

Thanks for the posi checks at Dragon. you say there are more but I don't have Kent so could you tell me what they are (with posis) and I'll wikitable them in (unless you would lurrrve to do so?)Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:29, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ta, for the posies,... I've got a big list of their singles from Bruce Sergent's Dragon discography but didn't have chart posis. The entire list is too big for the Dragon article so I'm only including major charting singles. I don't feel up to making a separate discog article for Dragon.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 03:10, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

HG Discog

[edit]

Hang in there!

There seems to be some inconsistently applied rules/guidelines that are difficult to follow. I've looked at a number of FL discogs and find they've got many of the same problems but have been passed to FL. Perhaps the FL discog Panel are opting for raising the barrier, in which case they may have to de-FL some of the current ones. I had a quick go at some of the latest "Comments" but some Reviewers give very little guidance in their statements.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:53, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like I was wrong again (yeah I know its getting to be a habit). HG discogs failed FLC: pity about that, especially after all your great work.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:38, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm ready to get back to taming one of the wild HoFs running around, I've decided to tackle one with a direct HG connection: The Divinyls. It's currently Start-class with one ref! I expect to take about a week or two to it tamed or at least brand it as B-class.

BTW, how's RM going?Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:15, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've decided to make interim efforts at my sandbox copy first, then transfer whenever I think its at an appropriate stage.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:20, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I believe I've got Divinyls up to B-class and will now blank my sandbox copy. Future edits will be direct to main article.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:41, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

could you please do me a favor?

Hello,

I am a master student at the Institute of Technology Management, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan. Currently I am wrapping up my master thesis titled “Can Wikipedia be used for knowledge service?” In order to validate the knowledge evolution maps of identified users in Wikipedia, I need your help. I have generated a knowledge evolution map to denote your knowledge activities in Wikipedia according to your inputs including the creation and modification of contents in Wikipedia, and I need you to validate whether the generated knowledge evolution map matches the knowledge that you perceive you own it. Could you please do me a favor?

  1. I will send you a URL link to a webpage on which your knowledge evolution map displays. Please assign the topic (concept) in the map to a certain cluster on the map according to the relationship between the topic and clusters in your cognition, or you can assign it to ‘none of above’ if there is no suitable cluster.
  2. I will also send a questionnaire to you. The questions are related to my research topic, and I need your viewpoints about these questions.

The deadline of my thesis defense is set by the end of June, 2008. There is no much time left for me to wrap up the thesis. If you can help me, please reply this message. I will send you the URL link of the first part once I receive your response. The completion of my thesis heavily relies much on your generous help.

Sincerely
