Welcome

[edit]

Hello, DLee82 and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are participating in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to go through our training for students. Go through our online training for students

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.

Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.

Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, and if your class doesn't already have one please tell your instructor about that. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and aid your communication with them.

We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished! Jauerbackdude?/dude. 16:25, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @DLee82: and welcome to Wikipedia. I note that you have created a draft article Draft:Youtube and the Hood Prank that you have also placed in article space as Youtube and the Hood Prank. I have nominated the version that is in article space for deletion, because it doesn't meet our standards for articles. You can state your case here if you disagree.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Youtube and the Hood Prank until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article.

I have also reviewed the draft Draft:Youtube and the Hood Prank and declined it, because it reads like an essay. To have an article, the subject "Youtube and the Hood Prank" needs to have been written about by multiple sources. Please read thegolden rule. I don't want to discourage you from editing, so please feel free to post on my talk page if you want some help editing - I'm more than happy to help you out. Best wishes Flat Out (talk) 05:06, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved this back to user space. I didn't notice, until just now, that it appears to be a re-creation of a page previously deleted at WP:AFD. If so, you can't do that. --Calton | Talk 05:27, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on User:DLee82/Youtube pranks and the hood prank requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

This appears to be a re-creation of the article at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Youtube and the Hood Prank, which I moved out of mainspace a short while ago. Yes/No?

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Wikipedia's purpose

[edit]

Look, no disrespect, but I think you may have the wrong idea about Wikipedia's purpose. It's supposed to be an encyclopedia: essentially, a factual reference work, a digest (or summary) for a general readership of general knowledge. In effect, you're summarizing what OTHER factual sources have already said. It is NOT essay based, nor is it intended to showcase new and/or original thoughts or opinions.

Have you taken a journalism class? It's like the difference a news story and an editorial. Or like the difference between a news report on the Super bowl and an analysis of why the New England Patriots suck.* Just the most-important facts. The message at the very top of this page has links which can give you guidance.

I might also suggest this: go to articles on a variety of topics you're interested in. See if you can add stuff to them. Also, look on their Talk pages (look for the "talk" tab at the top of the page): there's often a link to a related "Wikiproject" (basically, a group of editors interested in a particularly topic area), which usually have a list of areas or needed articles. For example (to pick a random one), Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan has a list of proposed articles, and to-do list, and a list of requested photos. I'm sure you can find an area where Wikipedia could use the help. Check it out.

*Of COURSE the New England Patriots suck; they're the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS.

Hello, DLee82. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Youtube and the Hood Prank".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Legacypac (talk) 23:05, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
