moving pages

[edit]

I have move Human kidney back to Kidney. If you still wish to move it, you must start a discussion on the talk page and get consensus. PRAXIDICAEšŸ’• 20:11, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Because teh consensus is currently established for Kidneys since it's the primary topic - it's a long standing article with a long standing title and your WP:BOLD move was undone, the onus is on you to demonstrate why the article should be changed and gain consensus. PRAXIDICAEšŸ’• 20:19, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well yes, it describes the human kidney. Did you ever saw bean-shaped pronephros in primitive fish? The most simple kidney consists of a single paired nephron. This article at the moment is a huge mess that been translated to other languages as article about kidney at all, but it is about human kidney. --D6194c-1cc (talk) 20:26, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Make your case on the talk page and get consensus, if one exists and then request it at WP:RM. PRAXIDICAEšŸ’• 20:30, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What should I do if nobody would answer for a long time? Does this mean consensus? Sometimes Wikipedia looks like a desert on the talk page. --D6194c-1cc (talk) 20:35, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There's no time limit on Wikipedia, it's a popular article and will eventually get discussion. You have to wait. PRAXIDICAEšŸ’• 20:39, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Kidney (vertebrates)

[edit]

Hello D6194c-1cc,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username MPGuy2824, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged an article that you started, Kidney (vertebrates), for deletion, because there's already a page about that topic at Kidney. Please don't be discouraged; we appreciate your effort in creating new articles. To avoid this in the future, consider using the search function to find pages that already cover what you want to write about.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|MPGuy2824}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

  • This speedy deletion was rightly nixed by an admin, since so much time had passed since the article's creation. Anyway, as you know, i've started a merge discussion about the two articles. Hopefully it leads to a good discussion and a resolution about what to do about these pages, and what names they should finally go under. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:54, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mammalian kidney

[edit]

Nice work! I'd love to nominate it for DYK. What do you think? BorgQueen (talk) 21:00, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Do you mean Wikipedia:Did you know? Yes, of course, I don't mind. D6194c-1cc (talk) 21:07, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Could you suggest some interesting hook which laypeople can understand? How about... Did you know that only the kidneys of mammals and birds can produce concentrated urine? BorgQueen (talk) 21:18, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Btw I fixed the reference formatting problem, which was the extra comma after Withers, Cooper, Maloney. BorgQueen (talk) 22:30, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You could also mention that this ability developed independently by the course of evolution. D6194c-1cc (talk) 05:12, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's still too technical. Let me put it this way: It has to be something that can be understood by an audience of ten-year-old children. BorgQueen (talk) 17:52, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Almost all the facts about the mammalian kidney can be understood only by at least 13-14 years old children. Even if my daughter in her 6 years knew that we evolved from monkeys and birds evolved from dinosaurs, she didn't understand what evolution is and how it works. Urine concentration is much more complex mechanism to understand than evolution, as I think. D6194c-1cc (talk) 18:21, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Reptiles, mammals and birds develop 3 different kidneys next to each other before birth, just like during their evolution.
D6194c-1cc (talk) 05:34, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
CO2 is not just a waste product and used to regulate acid-base ballance (pH) of the blood in terrestrial vertebrates. D6194c-1cc (talk) 05:39, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Only mammals have bean-shaped kidneys, and even in mammals, their form may differ (one of the kidneys of the horse is heart-shaped). D6194c-1cc (talk) 05:42, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The lungs allowed terrestrial animals to live near water, but kidneys allowed them to live far away from water. D6194c-1cc (talk) 05:50, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Those facts aren't all related to mammalian kidneys, but are interesting, too. D6194c-1cc (talk) 07:39, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Kidneys of mammals will have final number of nephrons to the moment of birth or soon after the birth, and won't generate new nephrons within the whole life. D6194c-1cc (talk) 08:42, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Mammalian kidney

[edit]

On 4 April 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Mammalian kidney, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that, amongst the kidneys of the vertebrates, only those of mammals and birds can produce concentrated urine? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Mammalian kidney. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Mammalian kidney), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Mammalian kidney

[edit]

Hi, I'd like to nominate it for GA. What do you think? BorgQueen (talk) 13:49, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Recently I found a new (2023) article about mammalian kidney evolution ([1]). So I'll need at least a week or two to explore available literature and write a section about mammalian kidney evolution. D6194c-1cc (talk) 15:49, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, no hurries. BorgQueen (talk) 15:54, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it took a month. There are some unresolved small issues in the article. It misses an illustration of the mammalian nephron. I didn't found suitable illustration under open license, so I'll probably draw it myself someday by a few of good sources that are present in the article. I didn't find information on regenerative possibilities of glomerulus. There is not so much information about diseases of mammalian kidneys in the internet, so the article misses a section about mammalian kidney diseases. Probably, diseases should be described in a separate article about human diseases first to make some kind of plan of what diseases in mammals to search for. But I don't think that those issues are blockers for article nomination. D6194c-1cc (talk) 08:41, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nice work. Now all you need to do is to paste {{subst:GAN|subtopic=Biology and medicine}} to the top of the article talk page. (Do not place it inside another template.) Afterward a bot will list the article to the Good Article nominations page.
I just found it out that I can't nominate it since I'm not a significant contributor. BorgQueen (talk) 20:27, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your guidance! I'll study the instructions and nominate the page. Can you give an example of review of similar article (internal organs or something like this) that was nominated to good? D6194c-1cc (talk) 18:46, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You'll find some listed in the Biology and medicine section. BorgQueen (talk) 19:11, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad to see you're back. Let me know if any of the comments are unclear. I'm sorry there's a large number of them, but hopefully each can be resolved quickly. I'm planning to finish a first read through for criterion #1 this morning, then I'll move on to looking at the sources for criterion #2 as soon as I can -- hopefully also today. I hope you're well, and that you feel refreshed from your wikibreak. Best, Ajpolino (talk) 14:22, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your comments! I'll check all the issues you've found and try to resolve them. I'll need some time for that. Although some comments need to be discussed but first things first. D6194c-1cc (talk) 15:25, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
