Hollyoaks

I'm getting confused about you. Maybe you need a push in the right direction, I don't think you are intentionally adding things to be disruptive. However - Hollyoaks Later characters shouldn't be added to the list of main show characters. They are mainly bit parts, which have better context in the Hollyoaks later article. Also repeating the same reference as you did causes problems on the page, when you want to use the same link more than once you can name the source and reuse it. I know that is totally confusing and feels like I'm speaking another language, cus when I first joined I didn't understand it. We need more HO editors though, hopefully you stick to it. Well the aim is to get them promoted to Good article status like Steph Cunningham, Loretta Jones, Zoe Carpenter and Ste Hay. Articles such as Tony, Cindy and Mandy could be so better. Plus The Costello's articles need real world info adding. There is more storyline content than real info such as casting, development and reception. Digitalspy, the tabloids, HO official website are the best places to add info from. But it is anything you would like to do really, when you have the time.Rain the 1 ^BAM 20:46, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

Yeah i noticed Cindy's was bad before and i didn't even have much in the way of SL's so i'll focus on them when i get a chance. If i need help referencing i'll ask.

Rain why do you keep editing out the upcoming characters and returning characters into one. They should be separate as are two different things and all other UK soaps use this method.

Well all the editors converse, under the wikiproject for Soap Opera's - but UK Soaps are run by different smaller sister projects. (Due to the amount of articles) They decided on the layout amongst themselves. Neighbours use the same method, it works better when there is only one character rerturning and not much point creating a new sub-section. If there were more returnees it would make sense splitting the two. I can create a discussion if you like, but whatever gets decided will be the consensus and hard to change back into switching between the two.. Just a little helper, you may notice signatures appear when new messages are left, to do this you need to do four this character "~ ~ ~ ~" but without the spacing.Rain the 1 ^BAM 22:38, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi there. I don't want to be rude or negative in any way, but I just wanted to say that I think that this edit was probably a mistake. I do see that you were just trying to help the editor who requested the link. Trouble is, he can't do it, you can, so you are taking on the responsibility of adding good content to the encyclopaedia. If you have a look at the site he wanted linking you'll see that it doesn't add anything to our article (indeed it copies some of its text). I don't think that the editor's motivation is necessarily to do with improving wikipedia. They have exactly 1 edit in the whole of wp and that is that request, so it's not like they are committed users and have shown previous history of wanting to improve it. Finally, the site appears to be owned by a person of the same name as the editor who made the request. I hate to sound cynical, but none of it adds up to something that can meet WP:EL - instead, I look at the paid ads, and the links to Amazon (where the site owner will make money if people click through and buy AW stuff from that visit) and it just doesn't look like an improvement. Hey. I need to bring up the parapharsing again. ATM there are a lot of editors hunting down articles with copy vios.

"When I first got the storyline through I was quite surprised really, because of the nature of the bullying and with it being racist, which is quite controversial. Also with some of the things that Gaz does to Anita. I was quite shocked really, I thought wow these are going to be some quite dark scenes, and I don't know whether anything like this has been shown before on Hollyoaks. It was good for me because I saw it as a chance to do something new, since it's very different from the normal school scenes we do. But yeah, I just felt really glad to be given the chance to do something like this - it was a big challenge".

Eastenders have been the lucky ones in terms of editor numbers. I just seem to edit every soap these days. I'm still on Gina, I'm determined to bleed the sources dry for info. We have to find the screencaps. If it is a screencap from a website, don't cite the website in the rationale as they have taken it from the show itself. I use tartydoris, youtube, 4oD to aquire screenshots. If you are gonna upload any, try and make them fitted to the top of the head to just below the neck. I'm sure you've noticed most image are this perfect square so they fit into the infobox. There is no set rule, I guess we just all felt it looked neater.RaintheOne ^BAM 02:36, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Don't know who else they could kill though except the really unlikable sixth formers although they're too new and Ruby is becoming likeable as is Leanne and a McQueen would be a silly idea as there too popular and Mandy could reappear again soon if Dunn will agree, when her career doesn't take off and she needs another boost. You'll probably hate me for this.. but Michaela McQueen... now has two images. What needs to be done is there needs to be some characterisation added to justify two images from two of her appearances. As we go by the most notable/most recognisable, the blond should have stayed put for now. An idea would be to find some info about her blond wig she used to wear. Try to find something mentioning the bows she always used to wear. Use it in the fair use rationale etc... Btw, this is why I never uploaded one with pink hair. I think a character like Rosie Webster will be justified really easy because I've collected a mountain of refs to justify her new image. You won't be able to use the piczo hosted interview because it is a fansite. The second source is okay, but it will only do for reception - as the hair info is exclusively about Hollie. You'll have to do a cite interview for these but make sure the dates are correct if you find a youtube video. The date is right here. I've set it out for you, but you will have to include the "< ref > tags"

Apart from the two tweaks i made the only other thing i can think of is the beginning of the storylines e.g. "Rae moved out of" should be moves in keeping with the present tense consensus and the characterisation section could do with a small expansion. I was out and missed HO first look, is Fr Francis' real name Nathan Harker then? Just have a rethink. The official HO credits listed list Amy played by Ashley Slanina-Davies... Louis played by himself. If you read the table the way I did it "Oh this character Kelly is played by Danielle Malone, and she is appearing on the 10 October... The characters name is Louis Souyaye as it says "As himself" so Louis Souyaye played by Louis Souyaye. That would be a middle ground we can meet on. The problem is you are reading the table wrong. You are looking at it from one line, but it is a table. You are reading the line as "As himself is Louis S and appears on ..." but "As himself" is in the character field. "As himself" is not a character, but the actor is playing himself in a soap. The page is a list of characters too! After browsing the freelibrary i found this and then this which was a week later. So i'm sure his exit could be something like "Darren suggests that Luke might be gay and his rape was his own fault. Mandy breaks up with Darren. Darren trashes Ruth's flat and is evicted. Yeah that is okay then. What I meant was, like you link Suzanne, Hannah, Sean, Jack & Francine more than once - only the first instance should be linked. You link Tony but do not put Nick Picard in Brackets after the name. However, later you say "Nick Pickard said" - but the reader will not know who it is. You'd only have to adress Nick by his second name after the first instance. After the first mention of ATD - you should adress him by his second name through out. • The order of events is not inline with continuity... Is is currently "first played by Booth - then played by Dawson - Alex auditioned - Dawson left and returned.... BUT Phil Redmond introduced Darren" - I think moving the introduced line up to flow from - "Darren was introduced by executive producer Phil Redmond as part of the Osborne family and debuted amongst Jack Osborne and Celia Osborne, his parents. Darren was initially played by Adam Booth when he made his first on-screen appearance on 18 November 1996." - is better.
• You mention Darren being reintroduced into the serial in 1999, but before that make no mention of him leaving.
• You need to somehow clarify at which time Carter auditioned for Darren - initial casting or recast?
• Darren was introduced by executive producer Phil Redmond as part of the Osborne family and debuted amongst Jack Osborne and Celia Osborne, his parents. sound a little wordy and could be "Series creator Phil Redmond introduced Darren alongside his parents, Jack and Celia Osborne." or "Series creator Phil Redmond introduced Darren as part of the Osborne family." - otherwise it is asif you are making the same point twice.
• "Dawson stayed in the part until 2000 when he left before returning full time to the role in 2003." is included three events chopped up into the same sentence and misleading - as "returning full time" suggests he was only there part time prior to his return. A suggestion is "In 2000, Dawson decided to leave Hollyoaks to concentrate on other projects. Dawson returned to filming in 2003 and has since remained part of the cast."
• "He was initially portrayed as a "bad boy" type character although he later matured." could be "Darren was characterised as a "bad boy" who matures throughout his tenure."
• Fix to this: "Some of Darren's His more notable storylines include" - stating those are his notable storylines and the other are not that notable - We wouldn't include anything that is not notable. ;)
• In your critics finisher in the lead you make one of the GA reviewers favourite questions applicable. "Others have criticised" - They'll want to know which publications.

The last line is awkward: change to "Dawson has received various awards nominations from his portrayal of Darren".

• Finally, are there any interesting facts about any of his notable storylines - which you think general readers may find interesting - and in turn make them want to read the rest of the article?

• In the storyline section, towards the end, you have "She gives birth on 21 January 2011 to Jack and Francine.[125][57]" - those two refs will need swapping around, so [57] is before [125]. Don't ask why they need to be in numerical order... lol

Random

• At the end of the section "Fatherhood" you have a section break. I think you may have done this to stop the image from falling into the next section - however it does not matter if it does. Instead you have created an unwanted white space.
• You have three quote boxes, one is blue. Just a suggestion but you could make them all the same colour. (The blue is good, but you may prefer white)
• Eamon Fisher - You just say "the man" in the Fake death scam section, though you do link and refer to Eamon in the storylines. You'll need to include his name and actor name in the Fake death scam section and delink and adress him by his first name in the storyline section.

No sweetie, you misunderstand. My recommendation is that you locate a copyeditor with no prior connections to the article--someone with "fresh eyes", someone other than you. I suggest that look for such a copyeditor at WP:GOCE. My original offer stands; I could also be that person, if you like. Freddie was awful, his death was strange and maybe a bit harsh. I liked Naomi. Pandora was one of the better characters, don't understand why she suddenly decided to sleep with Cook though. I really hated JJ and Thomas. JJ was a bit like Jal, both boring and with very little character. Maybe we should bring it up, noticed the other day as few of the shameless characters now have articles but with one or two sources only and with no one working on them. Hi D4nnyw, I wanted to respond to something you said on the Darren Osborne talk page, and thought I should bring it here because that section has gotten way too long and I'm about to go off topic, anyway. You said, when I bragged about my 900+ edits of The Wiggles, that you hoped that it wouldn't take as many edits to get Darren to FA. It probably won't! See, The Wiggles has been a FA since 2008, and I've been watching it since. Being a kid-topic, it gets vandalized a lot. And it was my very first FAC, so I was still learning about how to edit and about the FAC process. 4 noms! But it was totally worth it; I'm very proud of the article and it was very fun working on it.

I'm happy to hear that you're planning to get Darren to FA, and that you've taken it to peer review. I've always thought that more soap-related articles would do much to combat the systematic bias issue here. Let me know when you submit it to FAC, and I can assist. It looks great, i would ask Frickative before making the changes, the only other active Holby wikiproject member who says they are interested in Casualty (and are active) is User:Skarloey who you could ask. I think renaming the character list as a cast member list is an excellent suggestion! It would definitely solve the problem of delineating List of Casualty characters from Characters of Casualty. Mario, I like what's in your sandbox - is it just the table width that's changed? Also, I know WP:HOLBY has always been as struggling as an ED resus patient, but perhaps that would be a good location to discuss big changes like breaking up the past list into years, especially as the changes may well alter the Holby City articles as well. I agree with five year increments. I'd rather see List of Casualty characters just flat out moved to List of Casualty cast members (obviously with the actors switched to column one), rather than creating an EastEnders-esque replacement, because I think it's fairly redundant to have the same content in different formats. I do feel with the lack of missing charcaters it is hard to judge, still a bit confused.. So, the List of Casualty characters is being merged with List of Casualty cast members? If so, I disagree with this. If the List of past Casualty characters and Characters of Casualty are being split into seperate years, it means the info (now at the bottom of List of Casualty characters) will be a duplicate, in some way or another, as all the info (in time) will be in the years list. We could move the bottom half of the List of Casualty cast members to the empty List of past Casualty characters, which will have List of Casualty cast members merged into it. Yes, I myself had a hard time reading what I said! So:

• When (if) the characters are split into yearly lists: It means Characters of Casualty to be deleted right?
• All the info (gradually) will be added to these lsits about the seperate characters, meaning the table at the bottom of List of Casualty characters (Former) is no longer needed, as it expalins what is in the article? Right?
• The list at the bottom of List of Casualty characters (Former) would be moved to List of past Casualty characters, as like List of past EastEnders characters.
• Delete List of Casualty cast members, it will be a copy, as I hope we will add the notable guest stars in time to the yearly lists.
• Keep the top part of List of Casualty characters, to become a [List of EastEnders characters]].

So Overall: Delete-

• List of Casualty cast members
• Characters of Casualty

Create-

• Yearly lists

Move-

• Bottom part of List of Casualty characters, to the empty page of List of past Casualty characters. (i.e. like List of past EastEnders characters)

Keep-

• Top half of List of Casualty characters, (i.e.List of EastEnders characters)

Ah, much better, I see what you mean now - I just disagree, I'm afraid! I think having both yearly (or five-yearly) lists and lists of present and past characters is the wrong approach, because it's the same content just in different formats. And even setting that aside, yes Casualty has been on-air for over 25 years, but as can be seen from the current List of Casualty characters, it's not so long it would need splitting into separate past/present articles, which in and of itself is problematic because it puts a lot of focus on "now", when Wikipedia should give even coverage to the entire history of a series. I think my ideal arrangement would be to have:

• List of Casualty cast members transformed, so it's essentially the current List of Casualty characters, but obviously ordered by actors not characters.
• List of Casualty characters (1986-1990) (or alternatively, Characters of Casualty (1986-1990) - same alternative for all the below)
• List of Casualty characters (1991-1995)
• List of Casualty characters (1996-2000)
• List of Casualty characters (2001-2005)
• List of Casualty characters (2006-2010)
• List of Casualty characters (2010-2012) (can be amended for new years up to 2014).

Of course, we can take a closer look at exactly how many characters that would put in each list, and re-assess if 5 years doesn't feel like the best fit. I also don't think I'd be too keen on seeing one-off guest stars added, given that there'd be around 150+ in each article! Frickative 21:32, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

I would love guest characters to appear!! But, there would be loads!!!! Oh dear, I can't have explained it very well, because what I'm trying to get at is that I don't think there's a need for both a main list and yearly lists. That's why I like the idea of having a master cast list, rather than character list, because otherwise you just have different pages doing the exact same thing but in different ways. What don't you like about the current table being sortable? It's a requirement for Featured Lists. Hey guys, sorry, I was going to post here earlier but then forgot after the "blackout"! I like the ideas going round with the rationalisation of the articles. My two pence worth - I'd like to see the master list article stay, but, as I believe has been mentioned, the character names linking to character profiles elsewhere (grouped by year of introduction, if I've understood correctly?). I like the idea of the tables remaining sortable - it's rather useful for quickly browsing through. Not particularly a fan of the images along the side, but that's perhaps just personal preference. Also, would like to keep the table column widths as they are now - think it looks a bit untidy if entries are spread over several lines, except obviously things like Andrew Bower or Tally Harper, who both had a change of actor. (←) Very good point about line breaks, I do prefer a streamlined look too... I've just been through the existing character list, and, assuming the dates are right (which might not be 100% the case), creating five-yearly lists would put the following number of characters in each article:

• 1986-1990: 34
• 1991-1995: 30
• 1996-2000: 29
• 2001-2005: 35
• 2006-2010: 38
• 2011-present: 8

So a fairly even split, but a bit of a tough call as to how reasonable the length might be. As a very rough guide, List of EastEnders characters (2008) runs 36 characters long and stands at 164kb, well past the point WP:SIZE suggests should be divided. I'm not sure how much that would decrease if the "Others" list of every background character who so much as sneezed was removed though... That aside, before any major work takes place, it would probably be a good idea to discuss the infoboxes further, because I'm not a big fan of cramming them full of customised parameters to ape the soap opera template. In case it inspires anyone, I just remembered that I asked a similar question wrt splitting Characters of Holby City over at MOS:TV last May. There are some other suggestions there, eg in-universe splits (though I don't think I'd really been keen on a doctors/nurses/auxiliary staff approach), splitting alphabetically, a separate list for recurring characters etc. I'm starting to think the best approach might be to focus on building the content first, then sort out splitting once there are decent sections for at least the majority of main characters. If we just go from having one 98% plot-based article (List of past Casualty characters) to 6/12/18/24 of them, we've not really achieved much. Frickative 16:49, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Mercy

I think this stand out as having the potential to be cut down is the recent sections.

Mercedes attends an awards evening with Riley, where he becomes intoxicated. He accepts an award and attempts to get Mercedes onto the podium. Riley pulls Mercedes up onto the podium, making her lose her balance and fall to the ground. Myra then declares that Mercedes is having a miscarriage. Mercedes is taken to hospital, where she is told that she is in fact twelve weeks pregnant. She explains to Myra that she is unsure of the child's paternity.

I'd change it to

When Mercedes takes a fall in public; Myra claims that Mercedes is having a miscarriage. In hospital Mercedes is told that she is in fact twelve weeks pregnant. This leaves Mercedes unsure of the child's paternity.

You could shorten this:

Mercedes returns to live with the McQueens. When Riley refuses to see Bobby, Mercedes agrees to do a paternity test. When the test arrives it is revealed that Riley is Bobby's father.

to

Riley refuses to see Bobby until they take a paternity test. The results confirm that Riley is Bobby's biological father.

The order of events is wrong in this too: "Mercedes becomes a cleaner in a hospital along with Lynsey. She meets Doctor Browning (Joe Thompson) who she has sex with. Doctor Browning assumes Mercedes is a prostitute and pays her the following morning."

Mercedes was offered the job by Lynsey on her way home from a night with Doctor Browning, he had already paid her. She then took the job. He gave her more for a dress that following morning when Mercedes first discovers he works at the hospital. etcRain the 1 23:58, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

If you do not feel you can paraphrase it into the section - I'd go with the cquote and remove this from the beggining "I’m sure most Hollyoaks fans agree that Chester would be a much duller place without the McQueen family. [...] I’d like to focus on one member in particular, Mercedes." - that will cut it down a bit and the the already byline already explains that the peice is about Mercedes.

I do have some questions myself actually - I was thinking of splitting George from the list - look at George's sandsbox - but I wasn't sure if he is notable enough? Also, there is some potential considering it looks like theyre going to get them into human trafficing or something just as serious. Do we wait or proceed?? As for George the article is really good, i think you should split him, he's going to grow fast with the human trafficking or whatever Deena is doing. BTW, your talk page looks much better. Abit off topic but did you watch Skins yesterday?

I need to confuse you more please. I've wondered why Radio Times had listed the Squatter who kicked George out as "Squatter/Thug" - Well tonight he was credited as Thug instead of Squatter played by the same person. So I thought he attacked Phoebe. BUT people on DS are saying the guy who attacked Phoebe is the same guy as the person at the end. That would make sense to explain who Graham was in the first episode - but then it wouldn't make sense for the next episode. Can you take a look to see if the squatter is the thuig that attacked Phoebe? I want the 2012 list to be accurate. lol

That's good, the Darren/Nancy sl is good although not much is happening with it at the moment, its hardly dramatic, same goes for Mercy/Lynsey/Dr whose name i don't know. Peer review limits changed

This is a notice to all users who currently have at least one open peer review at Wikipedia:Peer review. Because of the large number of peer review requests and relatively low number of reviewers, the backlog of PRs has been at 20 or more almost continually for several months. The backlog is for PR requests which have gone at least four days without comments, and some of these have gone two weeks or longer waiting for a review.

While we have been able to eventually review all PRs that remain on the backlog, something had to change. As a result of the discussion here, the consensus was that all users are now limited to one (1) open peer review request.

If you already have more than one open PR, that is OK in this transition period, but you cannot open any more until all your active PR requests have been closed. If you would like someone to close a PR for you, please ask at Wikipedia talk:Peer review.
