Welcome
[edit]Hello, Curious1949, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of your edits have not conformed to Wikipedia's verifiability policy, and have been reverted. Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations that have been stated in print or on reputable websites or other forms of media. Always remember to provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. Wikipedia also has a related policy against including original research in articles.

[edit]Spam
[edit]Looking at your edit history, it appears that your edits to Wikipedia consist almost entirely of adding links to ias.umn.edu. Please review Wikipedia policies on WP:EL and spamming, especially the section WP:PROMO. If you see an article in the future that you feel absolutely requires a link to a talk at ias.umn.edu, please consider posting on the article's talk page to suggest the link; a neutral editor can then determine whether it needs to be in the article. Please let me know if you have any questions. -- Khazar2 (talk) 23:57, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Mali
[edit]I have reverted your addition there because it does not fit into an encyclopedic summary of a major country. Materialscientist (talk) 23:54, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
Single purpose spam account -- January 2012
[edit]I'm disappointed to see that you've continued to edit Wikipedia exclusively for the promotion of the website ias.umn.edu. Since you've refused to engage in discussion with several editors who tried to reach you through this page, I've removed your advertisements and reported you at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Spam. If you feel information from your organization is absolutely critical to understanding the topics involved, I suggest in the future that you propose your links on the article talk page, while noting that you are a single-purpose account for adding links to ias.umn.edu to Wikipedia. Uninvolved editors can then determine whether linking to your organization is useful or spam. Thanks, -- Khazar2 (talk) 00:44, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
I did not mean to be disrespectful. It is true that my posts do link back to the Institute for Advanced Study--we have several events a week, which we record, and we also have a relationship with a cable tv show called Bat of Minerva. Many of our recordings are in fact relevant to Wikipedia entries. I understand that you do not want Wikipedia to simply become a list of links, so I have in general added information to the text and used links as sources for the information I have added. I had hoped that that would take care of the link list problem. In the future, I will put links on the talk page and let editors decide whether or not they will add to the post. Sorry for the inconvenience.
- That would be very appreciated. Since I've been looking into this, one or two editors have pointed out to me that a few of these links are indeed useful additions, so I apologize if I came on a bit strong. On the other hand, as you've seen, many of them have been immediately removed by editors beside myself; links like these can be a bit trivial for subjects of large scope like Mali, or in the articles of academics who have delivered dozens of lectures. Sounds like the talk page is a good way to go to sort out which is which. Thanks for your efforts and being willing to engage. Cheers, -- Khazar2 (talk) 07:36, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
OK--that's how I'll proceed. Thanks.
---Notice of new addition--- I added a link and some language to the article on Susan Whitfield. She does a very good job of talking about her life and her work at http://ias.umn.edu/2013/01/13/whitfield/
I added a link to the article on Salif Keita to an interview with Cherif Keita, who wrote a biography of him. Cherif Keita is an important scholar of Malian music, and the interview is quite excellent.
