About your mistaken understanding on what I wrote in the Teahouse

I started to post this response at the appropriate place in the Teahouse when I discovered it had already been archived so I'll post this here on your Talk page. I was quite taken aback when I read your response and I have to say I was dumbfounded by it. I never dreamed that you would react to it the way you did and I can only assume you simply misunderstood what I meant. I think if you go back and re-read it with an objective mind you realize that I didn't mean it the way you took it. For your connivence I have put a copy of it below here:

"And every editor should know that, "The fact that you edit from an IP address may have contributed to the other editor's prickly response. There are experienced editors who have concluded that IP editors tend to be more disruptive than registered editors," is a violation of policy, as Wikipedia requires all editors to assume good faith edits, as long as it isn't vandalism. So there is no excuse for that."

Could you please point to the word(s) that led to your erroneous impression? I would appreciate it, since I want to understand what happened. Thanks in advance. __209.179.36.56 (talk) 04:15, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

You directly quoted me and then followed my words with "is a violation of policy". I read your comment as a statement that it was a violation of policy for me to have written those words, and I defended my comment on that basis. If I misunderstood you and you meant something different, then I apologize without reservation. I still do not understand what else you meant by the policy violation. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 04:27, 19 September 2016 (UTC)
I explained this on the unregistered editor's talk page. In my opinion, after re-reading, any "mistaken understanding" was not a mistake by me or by Cullen328, but in the way that the unregistered editor explained themselves. I did read the unregistered editor's post as an attack on Cullen328 for what was only intended as an observation. I said that, and said that they weren't getting off to a good start if they started by snapping. I see no need for an apology by Cullen328. If 209.179.36.56 wishes to apologize for being harsh, I wasn't the one who was being attacked. User:209.179.36.56 - I did read your post as an attack on Cullen328 for what was meant to be only an observation. I did read you as accusing Cullen328 of violating policy, not you as saying that other editors were violating policy. By the way, I stand by my observation that creating an account has advantages and no disadvantages. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:22, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your response about Biography of Living Persons

@Cullen328 Hello! Yes thank you for your thoughtful response. I suppose a lot has changed since the early days of wikipedia. Back then I remember the good ole days of the edit wars. How articles were always a work in progress and depending on how long the article stayed untouched the more we knew it was much closer to the truth than before. But I can respect your explanation of the neutrality policy and why it is necessary. The edit wars ruined the reputation and thus the potential of what wikipedia could be. I suppose it's fair to ask for the sake of mitigating controversy and consistent with the neutrality policy that I ought to cite sources which are high quality. I thought the Heavy.com article was well written and very objective considering the circumstances. I suppose it would've been better to post a link to the DNC charter & by laws. I wanted readers to know that bias against a candidate in a party election in favor of others is an egregious violation of the party charter. Since it was committed by high ranking officials of the DNC the party in effect disqualified itself. It made the primary election of 2016 null and void leaving Bernie Sanders the winner by default because he was targeted explicitly throughout the primary. Just because something is an inconvenient fact does not make it any less true. To say Debbie Wasserman Schultz was not a corrupt official on behalf of the Clinton Campaign is like saying Bill Clinton didn't have an affair with Monica Lewinsky.

It's not like Julian Assange wrote those emails either. It literally came out from their smart phones & emails. All Mr. Assange did was post the information for all the world to see. As you probably know Big Cable media is not to be trusted and has openly discredited itself. If heavy.com is not considered a reliable/independent source then it begs the question: what is considered by wikipedia to be an independent/reliable source? The only one I know of is the Bureau of Investigative Journalists but they don't usually cover topics like internal party corruption etc.

The reason why the word "bias" pissed me off when the article uses it is because of the way the talking heads on tv used it. They always brought it up as though all Debbie did was be mean to Bernie Sanders when that is far from the case. There are too many people that still believe this line of reasoning despite her blatantly corrupt behavior she displayed all year. I don't see how my heavy.com link was considered an "extreme voice". Now if I got my source from info wars or godlikeproductions I could understand. But heavy.com tends to work pretty hard to be as thorough as possible when covering an event. It will take me a while to dig up the links to the charter & by laws because it's buried somewhere in my hard drive when I downloaded the PDF. In the meantime I would appreciate future editors to use more than just "bias" to describe what really went on in the 2016 primaries. I could also find the link of when she allowed the Clinton camp to use party resources against Bernie Sanders and laundered money from the state parties to also use against Bernie Sanders lying to the state parties that it was for down ballot democrats. Even though her opensecrets.org record showed and also her FEC reports showed that hardly any of that money ever went down ballot. I will honor that favor from now on checking in with the previous editors and article creators before I make an edit. I thank you for your kind and thoughtful advice.

PS- from one Berner to another I will never forgive Hillary Clinton & Debbie Wasserman for what they did to Bernie and fellow supporters. They embezzled our money, defrauded us, lied, and cheated. Even went so far as to steal precincts using election fraud ever since the incident with the "data breach" in Iowa. It turns out the person who opened the data file was actually a Clinton campaign operative working for the Bernie Sanders campaign. It wasn't the first time that Bernie Sanders had to fire moles out of his campaign even though in retrospect I felt it was irresponsible of him not to consider that his data may have been compromised being that so many of us were complaining about voter purges, switched registrations, etc from the campaign's own voter hotline. He fired a total of 3 or 4 by my count. I will always be eternally grateful for Bernie Sanders giving millennials a voice and the guts to back a true progressive movement. We've accomplished so much at the local and state levels across many states. Now after a year of hard work our platform is mainstream and America finally has a genuine left perspective in the political landscape rather than right and far right.

Herm3s Tresmeticus (talk) 05:32, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

@Herm3s Tresmeticus: If you think that Heavy.com is a reliable source for use here on Wikipedia, then you should pull back and consider this sentence from our article about that source: "Heavy.com is primarily responsible for creating and producing largely comic programming for the Internet. Original titles include "Behind the Music that Sucks", "Blisster", "American Suck Countdown", and several machinima series (based on GUN, God of War, and Tony Hawk's American Wasteland)." This source is worthless for any Wikipedia biography. The rest of your comment consists mostly of pushing your own point of view. There are many websites where that is encouraged and rewarded. Wikipedia is not one of them. Wikipedia editors (including you) are expected to comply with the neutral point of view, which is a core content policy here. Even when discussing Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Especially when discussing topics where we have strong feelings. If you are unable to do so, then you should not be editing any article about a topic where you have strong feelings, such as DWS. Please edit only in areas where you can be neutral, and if you cannot be neutral, then Wikipedia is not the website for you. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:47, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

@Cullen328 Hello again! Wow I did not know that wikipedia discriminates against entire websites to determine authenticity of sources. Usually if the article in question is not lying about the events and has links to the source material most people tend to take it as authentic. But I guess I underestimated the high bar being set. Your point about Heavy is basically that it's too much like Buzzfeed or Cracked.com and I guess I can take that. Some web articles include links to source material and some don't. If that annoys me I suppose I should make more an effort to find and post source material rather than rely on articles.

Perhaps for future reference I should look for articles that are dedicated to the controversies of the 2016 primaries rather than individual bios if not create my own articles if one does not already exist. I notice when looking through Anthony Weiner's article that he has an entire chapter dedicated to his sexting scandals. There is no sugar coating of it and that's my point. The editors just lay down the facts and let everyone else draw their own conclusions. I also notice in the reference pages there are links to CNN and the like. I think we should hold ALL websites to the same standard. CNN is a proven propaganda machine just like Fox News. Not to mention Tim Turner, who is the president of the parent company that owns CNN, also happens to be the 7th largest donor to the Clinton 2016 campaign. This is common knowledge to the point that CNN has also admitted it on air. I'd respect the author & editors more if they just admitted they are scared of defamation suits rather than pretend to be politically correct. Lots of people have strong feelings about Anthony Weiner but the editors don't gloss over what he's done either. If you can't put in Buzz Feed or Heavy articles on the references page than I don't think it's appropriate to list Slate either that has a liberal slant nor the New York Post that has a conservative slant. I'm not sure how many other ways you can view DWS but earnest politician isn't one of them and nobody can tell me otherwise. But I digress and will be keeping your suggestions in mind. Editing a Hungarian film directors page

Hi! Yesterday I added a lot of info to the article of the Hungarian film and theatre director Kornél Mundruczó. It was deleted, because of being unsourced. Although I haven't finished with what I planned to do. I think I have added a lot of useful info. For example all his films after university and all his theatre pieces. So even in case his awards and festival invitations can't be listed like I wanted to do that, I think I made a lot of changes, which we could keep, for example the completed film table and the theatre table I added. Besides these I planned to do a more detailed description of him, but this will take me more time unfortunately. As a Wikipedia editor I'm rather a beginner, so what I do might not always match with what you can do on Wikipedia, although I have all info about this director and my goal is to make his rather pure page as informative as possible. For that I will probably need a mentors help... I don't want to get a professional editor, I would like to find someone with whom I can share the work, like I have the info, I put it on Wikipedia and the mentor is correcting me. Do think it is possible to find a partner for that? Many thanks and sorry for being a bit of a "elephant" on Wikipedia... Váradi Annamária vita 2016. szeptember 18., 11:54 (CET) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Váradi Annamária (talkcontribs) 09:54, 18 September 2016 (UTC)

@Váradi Annamária: Hello. The first thing that you should understand is that the quality of your references is really important in Wikipedia and you added a massive amount of unreferenced content. So, start by reading Referencing for beginners and be sure to provide properly formatted references going forward. Another problem with your additions is that they make the article look much more like a Curriculum vitae than a prose biography. This is more appropriate for the director's own website than a Wikipedia biography. The long unreferenced list of every single award that he has won is just not appropriate. Instead, add a much shorter, properly referenced list of the most notable awards that he won. I do not think you need a mentor at this time. I think that you need to spend time studying our policies and guidelines, and being sure to properly reference any content that you add. Feel free to ask me other questions, or ask at the Teahouse. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 16:47, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
Hello! Thank you for your quick answer. I understand the problem with the info I added, although I would have some questions: 1. would it be possible to put the tables back I made? They match the guidelines of Wikipedia, besides I put really a lot of work in it and it would be so nice if I wouldn't need to do it again... 2. how can I avoid being deleted already before finishing what I would like to do? Yesterday I add a lot of info, which took me a lot of time. I planned to continue with sources, for example by adding the website of the independent theatre company runned by Kornél Mundruczó, but I didn't know how to do it. I also planned to do a longer description, but I need time for that. Yesterday I worked for about 3 hours on the page and today everything was deleted. I will never finish, if I don't get "grace time" and the chance to sit done and work again and again on the page without being deleted. I naturally don't want the page being published before it is ready, I only want to avoid all my work getting deleted. Thanks a lot! Váradi Annamária vita 2016. szeptember 18., 22:15 (CET) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Váradi Annamária (talkcontribs) 20:15, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
@Váradi Annamária: Please do not add the information back into the article until you have referenced it. You can work on new content in your sandbox page and then copy it to the article when it is properly referenced. A theatre that Kornél Mundruczó runs is not an independent source. All your work is still in the edit history of the article and can be restored, but only when it is properly referenced. References come first, and we summarize what they say. We need reliable sources that are independent of Kornél Mundruczó. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 20:42, 18 September 2016 (UTC)

And again thank you for your answer! As I experienced there is a big difference between Hungarian and English Wikipedia. On Hungarian Wikipedia your "stuff" is only going online when someone verified it. And if I see it right, here it immediately goes online. Sorry! I didn't know that. Regarding the theatre companies website is not being an independent source, I absolutely agree with you. I naturally meant independent sources, it was a mistake of me to mention this one source, the reason for that was my disappointment about that I was even for adding that unable... Inspite of your warnings not to vandalize Michael Ferreira biopage User:Jitumoni1995 is still at it, Is there is a permanent solution to this problem? KhaasBanda (talk) 11:15, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

@KhaasBanda: Please be aware that vandalism has a very specific meaning here on Wikipedia. I did not see any vandalism. Can you point it out? This seems to be a content dispute, which should be discussed on the article's talk page. I see no discussion there by either of you. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 22:45, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
Cullen its right there in WP:VANDALISM, See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Vandalism#Reversion_or_removal_of_unencyclopedic_material.2C_or_of_edits_covered_under_the_biographies_of_living_persons_policy
>> Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced – whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionableshould be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion.
Jitumoni1995 is accusing Michael Ferreira of being part of Qnet, he has made several edits to the Qnet article to make it seem it as a criminal ponzi organisation. Basically he is accusing Micheal of being a criminal by association. He tried to do the same with the Pooja Hegde article but was reverted by User:Tabercil. Thanks KhaasBanda (talk) 03:08, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
@KhaasBanda: When I take a look at news coverage of Michael Ferreira in the major Indian newspapers, they all say that he is affiliated with Qnet and is under investigation for their activities in India. Are there reliable sources that say he is not affiliated with Qnet, and not under investigation? If so, please provide links. The biography cannot say or imply that he is guilty, but stating the facts in a neutral way is definitely allowed.
As for the Qnet article says, it should neutrally summarize the full range of reliable sources. So, if reliable sources publish solid journalism that says Qnet is not a ponzi scheme, then that should be reflected in the article, along with the contrary views.
Please take my advice to discuss these matters in the talk pages of the articles in question. That is the standard thing to do in such cases. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:33, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
Cullen, Michael Ferreira in his statement to the press has said this, Zee News

Note : This clearly falls in the territory of WP:BLPREMOVE, there is no question of discussing on talk page when the other editor User:Jitumoni1995 adds contentious material accusing a person of being part of criminal organisation, fails to leave edit summary and repeatedly makes POV edits to biography pages. He is clearly trying to tar a person's reputation. KhaasBanda (talk) 04:07, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

@KhaasBanda: No, you must discuss your concerns on the article's talk page, and this is really basic Wikipedia editing practice. Let me be crystal clear: A Wikipedia article summarizes what the full range of reliable sources say about a topic, and the major newspapers of India have published many articles about Ferreria and the Qnet controversy. There is no basis in Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for excluding this matter from the encyclopedia. It must be written neutrally. Do not try to remove it, but instead just work to be sure that the content is neutral. Take all further discussion of this matter to the article's talk page, which is where it belongs. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 04:16, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

Cullen i keep quoting wikipedia policies and yet you fail to take notice.

please read WP:BLPREMOVE particularly this part, Contentious material about living persons that is ... questionable – should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion.

There is nothing to be discussed here, Let the court decide, if there is a conviction that part should be added. Until then it's just defamatory to accuse the person of being part of a criminal organisation. My last post on this issue. Thanks. KhaasBanda (talk) 04:28, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

@KhaasBanda: Please confine all further discussion of this matter to the article's talk page, which is where it belongs. I really must be firm about this. Your failure to discuss on the article's talk page is an increasing concern to me. Please do so. The core issue here is whether or not Ferreria is a well known public figure in India. If he is, then the relevant passage from WP:BLP is "In the case of public figures, there will be a multitude of reliable published sources, and BLPs should simply document what these sources say. If an allegation or incident is noteworthy, relevant, and well documented, it belongs in the article – even if it is negative and the subject dislikes all mention of it. If you cannot find multiple reliable third-party sources documenting the allegation or incident, leave it out." I see multiple reliable sources. Do not reply here. Instead, discuss this matter on the article's talk page. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 04:43, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I am a new user/editor. I created a page, then, realizing it needed a lot of work, moved it to draft: namespace. Now I feel it is ready to go the mainspace. 1. Administrators are expected to set an example with their behavior, including refraining from incivility and responding patiently to good-faith concerns about their conduct, even when those concerns are expressed suboptimally.
    2. All administrators are expected to keep their knowledge of core policies reasonably up to date.
    3. Further misconduct using the administrative tools will result in sanctions.

Hello Cullen328: Thank you for your response. I appreciate that unbiased content should be provided so In the revised text that I posted, I worked extensively to provide unbiased statement of facts with links to reputable - not just verifiable - sources and was still including the section on criticism. However, from I was able to discern, the "problem" is that the discussion of "quackery" was not in the 2nd paragraph - only in the criticism - and therefore the whole content that I loaded was deleted/reverted. I would like someone who can review the complete text and provide edits versus loading the text in the talk or a sandbox, only to have it deleted or thrown out because of a paragraph or a sentence. Suggestions? Roadcat8 (talk) 02:43, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

Hello Cullen328: Thank you for your response. I appreciate that unbiased content should be provided so In the revised text that I previously posted, I worked extensively to provide unbiased statement of facts with links to reputable - not just verifiable - sources and was still including the section on criticism. I have just done a limited revision to do the following - updating the programs offered and adding a couple of notable graduates. I also moved the quackery paragraph to be included under "Criticism" so that the content is still on the page. I would REALLY appreciate edits/feedback instead of wholesale reversion of edits. I would like to update the clinic and research information as well; however, will hold off until I see how these edits progress. Thank you. Roadcat8 (talk) 04:36, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

@Roadcat8: Hello. Please discuss your concerns about this article, and your plan for changes, at Talk: Bastyr University. That is the proper place for such a discussion. Let's Talk

I'd like help with wording a mild chiding to another user. I don't want to tarnish his/her reputation. Although I feel I've come up with appropriate wording, I'm concerned my intentions will not be taken in the manner intended. This is what I've come up with, "I am politely requesting you refrain from using uncivil edit summary descriptions". What is your opinion? Bubbecraft (talk) 15:08, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

I neglected to mention, the person has become a bit prickly during an RfC, hence my concern about not unduly ruffling feathers. Bubbecraft (talk) 15:12, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
@Bubbecraft:. Sorry, but I am not going to give advice about responding to an edit summary without reading the exchange in question. I explained my thoughts about transparency at the Teahouse. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 16:25, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
@Cullen328:. My apologies for not understanding. I thought it was incumbent on me to protect the other person's identity and not unduly (or inadvertently) tarnish someone's reputation. There is an RfC in progress. There are 2 instances where a user replied to me and the edit summary contained the descriptions "nuisance" and "Pain in the ass". I would like to ask him to kindly refrain from such. I don't want to be impolitic.Bubbecraft (talk) 16:50, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
@Bubbecraft: My suggestion is to ignore it and move on. If you feel a strong need to respond, your words seem reasonable. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 20:47, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
@Cullen328:. Ok. I will ignore -- it's not a strong need. I'll keep your advice in mind if there are further instances. Thank you for your patience. Bubbecraft (talk) 20:58, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, I JethroBT drop me a line 05:51, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

@I JethroBT: Sadly, Chris, my phone lost the WiFi connection three minutes into the presentation. I am going to repeat the presentation with better video but the audience interaction will be missing. So it goes. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:56, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
Aw, sorry to hear about the lost connect. Very generous of you to do an encore performance. :) When you're able, let me know when a link is available. There are some folks who couldn't make it to the conference who were interested in checking out your talk, and I think those analysis numbers will come in handy when thinking about improvements to the Teahouse looking ahead. About Draft:Medhananda

Dear Jim, I wanted to begin improving my Draft:Medhananda according to your comments and propositions. I had found your comments more by chance than by Wikipedia knowledge, and now I can't find them anymore. I am a bit lost. Would you be so kind so send your comment and propositions once again, this time to my GoldenerBall address, so that I am shure to find them and be able to start working on the draft? Thank you very much Chris

GoldenerBallGoldenerBall (talk) 08:21, 13 October 2016 (UTC)

@GoldenerBall: Hello. What follows is my Teahouse answer from September:
"I do not see any references to independent, reliable sources in your draft article. Here on the English Wikipedia, articles must summarize what truly independent sources say about the topic. All of your references are either affiliated with Medhananda, or are explanatory notes rather than references to sources. In addition, your draft is not written from the neutral point of view. It makes various remarkable and opinionated statements about dreams and mythology in Wikipedia's voice, as if they were indisputably true. That is not an appropriate encyclopedic style of writing. Your tone is promotional. I would start all over again, summarizing only what reliable, independent sources say about this person, writing in a scrupulously neutral tone. Categories should be added only after a draft article is accepted to main space."
I hope this helps. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:33, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

You are invited to a Wednesday evening event in SF

Please join us in downtown San Francisco!
A Wikipedia panel discussion about journalism

Hi folks,

Please copy and share this on other talk pages. We would like to invite you to this month's Bay Area WikiSalon. The last Wednesday evening of every month, Wikipedia and Wikimedia enthusiasts gather at the Wikimedia Foundation lounge to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas.

We will have no meaty agenda this month, but we will allow a brief period for:

  • Open mic for anybody who attended WikiConference North America 2016 in San Diego last week and wants to share their takeaway
  • Question & answer
  • Open mic for announcements
  • Maybe a focus on some topical election article editing with Ben?

Or, you can grab a couch, a booth, a stool or counter and do your own thing.

Please note: You should register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building policy is strict on the I.D. part. This also helps us figure out how much food and drink to bring in! Feel free to stop by even if only to say a quick hello, but you might have to give us a last minute call if you forget to RSVP. Also, don't be shy about hitting us up if you have thoughts on future speakers or wiki-related activities.

For further details, please see: Wikipedia:Bay Area WikiSalon, October 2016.

PS: Mark your calendars ahead now for the 3rd Wednesday in November, the 30th (the week after Thanksgiving), at 6 p.m. when our WikiSalon will host a super awesome top secret mystery guest mingling in our midst. We will announce specifics at the upcoming WikiSalon.

See you soon! Pete F, Ben, Stephen, Jacob, and Checkingfax | (Subscribe or Unsubscribe to this talk page notice here)

DYK for Consairway

On 26 October 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Consairway, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 1992, civilian employees of Consairway were granted veteran status by the Veterans Benefits Administration for their World War II service transporting munitions and military personnel? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Consairway. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Consairway), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

How do I make my AfC not sound like an advert?

Hi Jim

Thank you for your feedback at the Tea House Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions#How_do_I_make_my_AfC_not_sound_like_an_advert.3F about the AfC Draft:NUGEN Audio.

You said "The draft reads more like a product catalog rather than an encyclopedia article about the company". I can see what you are saying here, so I have added sections on company history, and on awards.

Please - would you be willing to have another look at it and see if these edits are going in the right direction, and if you have any other suggestions for improving the article?

Thanks

PaulTapper (talk) 09:24, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

@PaulTapper: Hello. To me, your draft still looks like a company catalog or company brochure, referenced mostly to content generated by company press releases and marketing efforts. Can you point to significant coverage of your company in reliable, independent sources that was not generated by your company's marketing efforts? Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:05, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
@Cullen328: Thanks for continuing to help me with this Jim. I believe that quite a few of the external references I've cited in Draft:NUGEN Audio fit that description. For example, the reference (at the moment number 25 for that article) Robjohns, Hugh. "Nugen Audio MasterCheck". SOS Publications Group. Retrieved 20 October 2016. is to an article by Sound On Sound which is a respected paper and online magazine for anyone involved in audio production. The article was published in the paper version of the magazine, and online, but I made the reference to just the online version for convenience. This article was written independently by Hugh Robjohns, one of the journalists who work for SOS, and was not generated by NUGEN Audio's marketing efforts. Do you agree that this reference matches the requirement, or am I missing something? Thanks for your help. PaulTapper (talk) 09:22, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
@PaulTapper: That's a product review, not an article about your company as a business. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 14:43, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
@Cullen328: Ok - thanks for the clarification Jim. So would this citation [1] meet the requirements? It's an article in a paper magazine supplement (with online version), independently written, and talks more broadly about NUGEN Audio, not just about some of the products. Sorry that its taking me a while to figure out exactly what's required here - I'm doing my best. PaulTapper (talk) 14:00, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

It was really great to receive your appreciation of the Mineralogy Barnstar. Thank you so much for support. @Chris Oxford: Thanks, you did a really nice job. I had a friend, much older than me, who had a world class collection of gems and minerals. She is gone now. She left some of it to the Napa Valley Museum and some to the California Museum of Gems and Minerals in Mariposa, California. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 23:53, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
Dear Jim,
I think, your friend was a very good person.

A world-class collection of minerals, which she presented to the people, is in the highest degree worthy of being qualitatively photographed, to decorate all the pages of Wikipedia about minerals.

That will be really the best tribute to this lady, and the beauty, that she loved so much, will be discovered by people not only in California, but around the world.
How do you feel about this idea?
All the best.
Regards,

Chris Oxford.Chris Oxford (talk) 20:28, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

@Chris Oxford: The next time I am in Mariposa, I will stop by the California State Mining and Mineral Museum and take some photos. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 21:05, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello, Jim. That is excellent. Please let me know, when the photos will be in Wikimedia Commons. I'll be glad to help, if it will be necessary, to improve quality, and then we can place images to the pages of the relevant articles. I'll be out fo a while, and will be back in the end of November. Cullem328,

Thank you for your write-up. However, to me it reads as if Tom and I were just a couple of drug addicts who happened to shack up for a decade. It sounds a little cold which is perfectly understandable if Maria Britneva is used as a source, so I'd like to offer some clarifications and background.

We never 'split' up if the meaning is to abandon each other, leave to pursue different lives entirely, never took other lovers for more than one night stands. He did engage a veritable army of bag boys and wrote me October 9, 1976 letter detailing some of these adventures, “For me this has been the summer of the 'hired companions', each somewhat worse than the other, from Christopher Makos to the third and present, a pretentious, untalented poet from Laguna Beach, a trio of grifters, and of course you've probably heard that Madam (the bulldog) is gone. She was DOA at La Guardia . . .”

Our frequent disagreements and arguments, had us 'splitting up' at least a hundred times or more, all of which is detailed in 'An Hundred Years Before the Mast' which by the way is cited nowhere on his page to my knowledge while many books with lots of negativity about me are amply represented and used as references.

The origins of Twerp:

'The Lady Just' (a nickname bestowed on her by Marion Vaccaro, Tom and Frankie's traveling companion throughout Europe in the 50's) and I had a serious dust up in Vienna in late December of 1975 when I told her I'd heard her story and she was nothing but a rich whore. She might have called me twerp during this altercation but I wasn't really listening to her.

She narrates an entirely fictional, superbly humorous, account of this incident in 'Five O'clock Angel': “And thus, while the Twerp was clawing at us through the lift gates, we made our rickety escape.” Of course I write up what actually happened that night in 'An Hundred Years Before the Mast', “She depicts herself as a heroine in a drama that was little more than a sordid exercise in excessively bad taste . . .”

Originally I'd been referred to as 'Enfant Terrible' and Tom first uses this new term of endearment in his January 13, 1976 letter written in San Francisco to The Lady Just: “I am continuing this letter late at night, Twerp sleeping. His latest homage to me is a dose of the clap.”

She first writes the term when he'd accepted the presidency of the 1976 Cannes Film Festival to which she'd invited herself in her letter of April 12, 1976: “My broken foot will have healed in three weeks, when the plaster comes off, so I should be quite agile for Cannes. We will have fun there. My only stipulation, put in writing, is that the little Twerp is not to be along on that trip – let him take a trip of his own, of a different nature, I fear. I really cannot stand his physical appearance, which he can't help, or his atrocious manners, and native vulgarity, which he can.” Along with this she added a little threat and threats didn't play well with Tom: “It all adds up to bad news for our friendship, and who needs the strain . . .” She didn't get that assurance in writing but he replied on April 19: “I can visit you whenever, wherever is convenient to you if Cannes is out. I am more and more inclined to emigrate permanently to Europe . . .”

Few of The Lady Just's letters survived unless she failed to mail them because Tom would read them then toss them in the trashcan because of her bad writing and inability to spell. One she wrote him on January 7, 1977 following my 'misadventure' (attempted suicide) on Half Moon Street in London does: “I was so pleased to get your letter just now . . . I like the end of your letter. 'I love you as ever, but not because you're icy.' I am icy, but only to little twerps. That's the best news, that the Twerp has twerped off. (I went to recover in Veracruz, Mexico) All he contributed was to muck up your visit to London and stop business being done.” She includes a note characteristically designed to build up her bit adding that Tom “. . . complained to a mutual friend that 'although my last letter [to Maria] was rather urgent, I got no response. I sometimes suspect this friendship and concern for me is all a myth that she has constructed. However, this is a suspicion that I'd love to discuss as there's no one else whom I can look to in times of emotional stress.”

In his future letters to her he does continue to refer to me as Twerp or often as not 'you know who' which had been used even when I was called the Enfant Terrible. In the early 80's it was rumored that he had lost much of his affection for her and she did exercise a sort of Rasputinesque grip on him. He might have considered her as partly responsible for our living apart.

By May 15, 1982 Twerp was no longer in use and his letter to her makes it plain: “Well, I am now in Charleston, S.C. Hotel, checking up on Enfant's condition here . . . The Enfant does much better in Charleston than anywhere else. He is unable to afford much drugs on the weekly stipend I give him but manages well, has a nice little apartment, is simply but neatly dressed and has even completed a long new novel which contains no reference to you. I could not consider removing him from here as it seems to be his only favorable environment. Since I am probably the only person who has ever shown him any kindness he has put himself out enormously to please me; loaned me this little Olivetti and a box of typewriter paper. Engaged me a beautiful room with an ocean-view.” This was his final letter to The Lady Just.

His final letter to me on October 27, 1982 (four months before his death) reaffirmed his loss of confidence in ICM's representation, “It is always unsafe to mail anything to I.C.M. Better to Leoncia.” (Leoncia McGee was his Key West housekeeper) I was puzzled by his detailed discussion of the location and disposition of various of my manuscripts, all originals and gifts stored in his Key West studio, but most puzzling was his finishing this letter, “Never turn a destructive impulse on your work or on yourself. There is enough punishment in existence without adding that. - Tennessee” This letter was also a hint of an invitation for us to make another go at it by traveling to Australia together.

We never 'split up' but lived apart from around August 1980 when I moved to Charleston, SC. We still traveled together and he visited me often.

Finally, why aren't the 'partners' put in date order? Pancho Rodriquez came before Frank Merlo.

Sorry to run on and on about what's essentially inconsequential but I was there and lived through it.

Best regards and thanks again,

Robert Carroll rcarroll88@outlook.com

@Robert Carroll: Hello. As a Wikipedia editor, it is my obligation to summarize what a range of reliable, published sources say about the thing I am writing about. The very best sources for a biography of a person who has been dead for decades are book length biographies issued by reputable publishers. I am an encyclopedist not a biographical researcher. It is not my job to study primary sources like correspondence and the personal recollections of participants like you. That is called original research and is not allowed on Wikipedia. As for the drug use, I found many sources that discuss that matter. I did not dwell on it. In conclusion, I found two sources readily available to me that discussed the relationship in detail, and summarized what they said. If you want to point to other published sources, I will take a look. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 16:32, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
