Border & Background
[edit]Could you please add a red border and a green background to my userpage, I can't do it. And yesterday I asked User: Master of Puppets to do it for me, he did it, but my text was shrunk and the border was not joined in places, and in some places was not even there, he said it displayed fine on his PC, could you do it? PS you can have a look at it, by clicking on the Master of Puppets version, it does not look good -- Lego@lost 04:45, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Age as a RfA criteria
[edit]I was recently browsing through editor's standards for becoming an administrator and noticed that you, as well as others, felt that age should be a criteria. I come to you as I have seen you around and respect the work which you do. I am wondering what exactly the rationale behind this criteria is. From my viewpoint if an editor can do good work at a young age then they can only improve from there. In addition age does not always correspond to maturity or ability to make valuable edits. In fact, I would theorize that it almost never does. Those who are young and choose to contribute their time to making a free and useful encyclopedia seem to be generally those who can do that well. At any rate I was wondering if you could please explain your rationale to me. While I realize I do not have an actual right to this I would appreciate if you did. Thanks for the time, and thanks in advance for a response. SorryGuy 06:01, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Never Stop Doing What You Love
[edit]I was in the middle of responding to the merge suggestions when the discussion was closed. I believe the compilation is a Beatles/McCartney collector item, more relevant to Beatles and McCartney collectors than it is to Fidelity Investments. The page had previously been linked by Paul McCartney and Paul McCartney discography, but not by Fidelity Investments. I believe people following the redirect will justifiably expect to find information about the track listing, which was deleted in the merger. Yet adding the track listing to the Fidelity article is certainly beyond the scope of that article. Rohirok 19:06, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit]This 'Historian' now thinks that 'Sanhedrin' is closer to Neturei Karta than to Kach. He is also seeing a fusion of Kach and Neturei Karta, since 'both oppose the state'. I tried to clarify it, giving some examples of the thought of NK and Kach (without naming either), and what is his conclusion - 'the press releases of the Sanhedrin so far are more like NK'. WP:MUSIC and TruthbringerToronto's RfA
[edit]G'day Alex,
I am, of course, always pleased to hear from you. I'm not entirely sure how you've managed to implement 10 000 edits and 2 000 unchallenged deletions since yesterday afternoon, but I have no doubt it would have been a bloody impressive sight ;-). I was reacting to the idea I interpreted as "oppose because he doesn't vote the way policy requires him to", which I find quite repugnant for all sorts of reasons. Any past interactions we've had were far from my mind at the time; I would have responded the same regardless of who it was I thought making the "troubling assertions".
Relax, dude. When I'm around (and it's not so often these days, I know), I say a lot of things. Sometimes I could probably be accurately described as an "opinionated prick", although people tend to take pains not to do that on Wikipedia (you're free to be the first, if you'd like ;-)). If I'm being unfair, feel free to say so, but remember that I would have been unfair to anyone. I'm really not targetting you (or anybody else); just, well, being an opinionated prick. fuddlemark (befuddle me!) 18:18, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Pace/Template abbreviations
[edit]I don't think that Pace should be considered an NYC law school. It's 25 miles north of the city, and on the Fordham Law article there is a sentence mentioning that there are only 8 ABA approved law schools in NYC. Perhaps an ABA list of schools could be useful?
Also, in the Template:Law schools in New York City, it seems like there should be some consistency with the names. Right now "New York Law School" still has "Law School." You probably know better than I do: how do people usually refer to these schools in everyday speech? Do they say "Law School" or "Law" at the end, or just the main name? Whatever the case, could you edit the template to make them all the same? Thanks. Edit: forgot sig PreferenceSeries 23:45, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

As to the subject at hand; I'm somewhat puzzeled why you'd state that an experienced admin (who was one of the earliest members of wikimedia) hasn't had enough community experience.
There's really not so much difference between different wikis. Even Uncyclopedia admins do very well on en.wikipedia, I've found. Knowing that, an admin from a different wikipedia is basically just in a different corner of his home turf.

Re: Limbaugh afd
[edit]Well, you have something of a point, looking at the sources none really seem to confirm any of the jargon as much as I seem to have thought. Perhaps I should have left it open longer for an admin willing to walk into the buzzsaw of what would have certainly been a highly controversial delete, but it had been open for 11 days (!) already. At this point DRV might actually be a good option... reversing myself at this point would frankly be awkward and probably lead to even more confusion and uncertainty. I am still thinking about it, but a reversal seems unlikely, sorry... it is/was a tough situation. --W.marsh 03:49, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

I took a look
[edit]I took a look at the history of my talk page, to see what interactions we have had before.
I saw you had written to me about my misuse of stubs. I saw that in the last message you left about that you said:something about me helping to fix the problem I created, "if it isn't beneath you". I don't know if you noticed that I removed the problematic stubs I had put from a great many articles.
For the record I didn't ignore your concerns.
I also took a cursory look at your recent User Contributions. I briefly scanned through some of the notes you exchanged with User:Kingboyk, and I noticed that they contained a serious misconception -- that the Guantanamo articles were "duplicates". They aren't. I left him this note.
Let me repeat the 2nd most important of that note. I regard myself as a cooperative person who takes other wikipedians concerns seriously, and who will work cooperatively towards a compromise. -- Geo Swan 23:18, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
duplicates
[edit]- Sorry, not "duplicates". In this edit you referred to them as "carbon copies". -- Geo Swan 03:43, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
inappropriate?
[edit]Maybe I am missing something. You left comments on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ibrahim Daif Allah Neman Al Sehli that three of the votes there were solicited. Your edit summary said it was inappropriate. Would you mind explaining to me what you thought was inappropriate? Yes, I left five brief heads-up notes on the talk pages of some people I know have shown interest in previous nominations to delete articles about Guantanamo detainees. No, I didn't contact everyone who has voted on previous nominations. I didn't contact people who had voted for deletion in previous nominations. None of them have asked me to give them a heads-up. But, during previous nominations, where those interested in deletion included wikipedians who explained their vote in blatantly political terms, a number of those who voted to keep contacted me afterwards and asked me to advise them of future attempts at deletion.
Note: I didn't ask them to vote in a particular direction. I merely suggested they might want to offer an opinion. User:GRBerry has voted in previous nominations. And he makes his decision based on his opinion of the merits of each article. I didn't know, for a certain fact, how any of those five would vote.
So, if giving a heads-up to an interested party is inappropriate, how would you describe this exchange or this exchange you had with User:Kingboyk?
We are all supposed to WP:AGF. Surely you can appreciate that when others discuss one's work in a disrespectful manner it makes it harder to assume good faith on their part?
I'd be interested in your opinion in the discussion in this nomination -- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shaker Aamer. -- Geo Swan 03:43, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

I am, as you surely know, no fan of Dubya and no particular fan of Israel, but I am, to be sure, even less a fan of less-than-good articles. If you've a moment in which to look at this one, I'd be much appreciative. I certainly don't think this use of realignment to be more common, especially relative to politics, than that at Realignment election, and I rather think that, even as the old sports-specific page (now at Realignment (sports)) ought to have been moved, Realignment ought to be a dab page (WP:DAB surely counsels against our preferring one article where a term holds no primary meaning. Feel free, at your convenience, to drop me a line... Joe 04:52, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
- Prompt response, that. Three succinct questions: (a) do you think the term is altogether notable in this context? (b) do you think Realignment ought to be a dab page? (c) am I nuts, or is some significant cleanup in order? Joe 04:56, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
