Hello Clive, could you please not add external links into body text, as you've been doing at Crowdsourcing. When you add a fact to Wikipedia, you need to cite a third-party source, not an external link. Here is how to cite sources. Hi Daryl,

Thank you for contributing to the efforts to create a Wikipedia page for BOLD Awards.

In my pursuit of a neutral, non-promotional tone of voice, and as guidance on what to write about the BOLD Awards, I took a lead from the entry for the Collier Trophy. This award has a richer history because it began in 1910, and lists all the recipients since then.

I have subsequently taken a look at the page for the Webby Awards. It covers who started them what industry sector they serve, how the judging process works, and past winners. It is similar content to the BOLD Awards article.

I did not include any request for entries or for sponsors, I did not mention that tickets for the annual award ceremony can be bought, and I supplied third-party media coverage of BOLD Awards and some of this year's winners.

Given the comparison to these other award pages, I am unable to recognise where I have broken any "rules" in my content for BOLD Awards.

I hoped to publish direct by making 10 edits to other pages and by following Wikipedia's tone of voice and content guidance because I have read there are over 4,000 pages awaiting review by neutral editors and that the process takes over three months.

Is it the actual content of the BOLD Awards article that prompted your involvement, or is it more the convention that it is preferred that paid editors submit articles for review?

@Crowdsourcing Clive: It appears that your account is now blocked. If you want to continue editing, please focus on making a convincing appeal to your block.

While I cannot see your deleted contributions, the ones that are still in the page histories appear to be unsourced, cited to sources affiliated with the subject, or brief mentions that lack the required in-depth coverage. Significant mention in a reliable and independent source is required for it to be considered a valid citation.

In answer to your question, my advice to use edit requests was by convention, and for good reason. Our experience has repeatedly demonstrated that editors with a conflict of interest, and in particular paid editors with a financial incentive, are often incapable of distinguishing between neutral edits and promotional edits. Their motivations are to please their clients first because they are being paid to represent their interests. However, all Wikipedia editors are expected to hold the interests of the encyclopedia above personal concerns or the interests of clients. Of course, we realize that not every paid editor is automatically guilty of having self-serving intentions, but the pervasiveness of promotional edits has lead to a culture of skepticism.

A three month waiting period for an edit request review might sound like a long time. But since Wikipedia has no deadline, that wait is insignificant compared to the value of a review by a neutral editor. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 06:41, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Oaktree b,

Thank you for your message. I had referred to the guidelines, and in my opinion the content was not promotional. I have worked in advertising and marketing for over 40 years, and I know what promotional material reads like. By compariosn I considered what I'd written to be a neutral and objective tone of voice.

I also emulated the content of the Collier Trophy entry. I am unable to see what makes BOLD Awards promotional and the Collier Trophy is not. I also looked at Webby Awards and cannot see the distinction.

Are you able to possibly share some insight that will give me an idea of how to go about rewriting it?
