The Wire

[edit]

In Japan, I have many English channels, I have more than the entire neighborhood. Whenever, I do get the chance to talk about television here( in English) nobody knows what I am talking about. English is not important to most Japanese. It is sad but true. The Wire? I have never heard of it. I do get AXN, Fox Life, and a few others that show American programs. Most shows telecast here aren't very new either. I do see American Idol but it is 2 weeks old. Most shows need to be translated before being shown. I did see the Academy Awards and The Grammys live. These kind of shows are more expensive to watch but I manage to do so. To live here without knowledge of the language is tough. I appreciate you being on here to talk about anything. I am sorry I couldn't help you with the question. You must be a big fan of the show. I will investigate more into your question, okay.

I saw you were interested on another page about the film 'Trailer Trash'. Try this website. It may be useful to you.

Agelessness

[edit]

Hello!

There may be a presumed tendency to think I am as old as the Taj Mahal.

I was born in the early, early '60s. I am surprised at you're very own age. Smart guy.

I do live in Japan. About 70 minutes from Tokyo.

Thanks a lot for the messages. Electric Japan (talk) 07:12, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Netflix

[edit]

I thought the film had great performances all around. It's a depressing film in a way, though... the circumstances they have to deal with because of Romanian law. My only minor complaint is that the Romanian world seemed stereotypically portrayed -- being poor and rundown, but perhaps that was just the background of the film itself. By the way, I would recommend archiving your talk page. It helps establish some background for an editor. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 22:07, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject The Wire

[edit]

Its a fair concept but the first thing you must do is stop using non-free images in your templates and on peoples talk and user pages. This stuff is copyrighted and the project has rules about how we use copyrighted material. See WP:FU. Where did you propose the project to the wikiproject council? Can you please give me a link to the discussion.--Opark 77 (talk) 20:02, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the link. I'm not certain how these things work but I think you're supposed to go through the proposal process before you go ahead and make the article. I would love to join the project if it passes the proposal process - I have made some comments at the proposal. With regard to the images you have used - they were used only once each and that was at the article where I wrote a fair use rationale for them. I'm not sure what you mean by "all the other articles" - perhaps you could clarify this. I'd love to collaborate with someone to improve our coverage of The Wire but we have to be realistic about fitting our coverage into the aims of the encyclopedia as a whole. That means following the guidelines set centrally and at WP:TV and incorporating real world information into our articles. If a character is too minor to have real world sources discussing them in detail then they cannot warrant their own article here. I also work on a wikia which is dedicated to the series and allows more coverage with slightly fewer rules here. Your article for Nerese Campbell is perhaps not the best idea in the world. Is she notable enough in her own right to warrant her own article? The article as it stands does not establish notability. Admittedly nor do many of the character articles I have created but I hope to improve them.--Opark 77 (talk) 20:20, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply. I'm glad we agree about the images and Campbell. I agree that she is a fascinating character. I think the show has several fascinating characters that it would be difficult to write articles about for wikipedia. For now I think we should focus on improving the existing articles for the starring cast members to the point where they meet notability guidelines. Perhaps we could choose someone as a collaboration of the month for the project? I think I will wait for someone with more experience to give me some input about the proposal process before I join formally but I am happy to edit alongside the project informally for now. Is that OK?--Opark 77 (talk) 20:35, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is a to do list over at Talk: The Wire (TV series) that it might be worth importing to the wikiproject for people who are looking for things to do. I'm trying to work through character and episode entries and get them up to date for the end of season 5. I believe I did a through job at Marlo Stanfield recently. Perhaps we could work on this kind of updating and referencing for now also?--Opark 77 (talk) 20:37, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've never heard of the show. Sorry. =[ iMatthew 2008 20:00, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

David H. Melnick

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the articles David H. Melnick and Shamit Choksey, suggesting that they be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but these articles may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on the talk pages. Also, please consider improving the articles to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of David H. Melnick. Some suggestions

[edit]

Great job on the Kia Corthron article. I have a couple of suggestions to improve your editing, hope thats OK:

  • First of all:
Hello. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary. Thanks, and happy editing.
  • Secondly on formatting - according to WP:TV and the manual of style we use italics for show names and quotation marks for episode names i.e. "The Target" is the pilot of The Wire.
  • Have a look at WP:CITE for advice on formatting citations (I strongly recommend using the wikiite application for referencing websites - it is awesome) and the suitability of sources (I'm not sure that Answers.com for example is considered a reliable source).

Oh and yeah I've read all of George Pelecanos' books. Wikipedia is not the place for discussion but I'm on the IMDb forum quite often if you want to talk about the series or related things.--Opark 77 (talk) 11:53, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:PAUL WESTON IN TREATMENT.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:PAUL WESTON IN TREATMENT.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:24, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

TCA

[edit]

Just to let you know, I've closed the WP:UCFD discussion of the category associated with User:Creamy3/Creamy Army as "Delete".

In addition, I've also somewhat cleaned up the page, and it's related pages (now all moved to sub-pages - See: User:Creamy3/Creamy Army/Templates, for example), per the recent MfD (which, while withdrawn, indicated that while a "cabal" in userspace may be acceptable, it should not be confused with an actual WikiProject).

If you have any questions/concerns, please feel free to let me know. - jc37 01:40, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Hellmaster.jp.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hellmaster.jp.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:58, 15 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 15:58, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Adamgreen.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Ricky81682 (talk) 22:48, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As stated at the AfD, I am happy to provide a copy of the deleted article, for use away from Wikipedia, or for improving prior to returning it to Wikipedia. If the latter, please note that without non-trivial references to Kuchera in reliable sources, the article will be deleted again, so please do ensure it passes WP:BIO before returning it. Just drop me a line at my talk page and I'll provide a copy. Many thanks. --Dweller (talk) 15:10, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Ernie Garrett for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Ernie Garrett is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ernie Garrett until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Peripitus (Talk) 11:34, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Clare McNally has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

As much as I hate to nominate book related articles for deletion, I'm unable to find enough coverage for her to show that she passes WP:AUTHOR. Other than two short reviews and a mention in an encyclopedia, there is no in-depth coverage out there for McNally.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nomination for deletion of Template:WikiProject The Wire

[edit]

Template:WikiProject The Wire has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. Gonnym (talk) 13:15, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:WikiProject The Wire participants requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
