Cast list in infobox (again)
[edit]This has been discussed before, but the cast list in the infobox is ridiculously long. I suggest that it be removed altogether and a note be added to see the cast section. As far as I can see, there is no fair way of judging who deserves to be in the infobox and who should be eliminated. The only option I see is to remove the list altogether. Any thoughts on this? ---The Old JacobiteThe '45 15:21, 14 October 2016 (UTC)
- I'm personally against any type of removal of cast members from the infobox. To me, it does more harm than good. The bulleted list being used doesn't use line breaks, so the list doesn't appear as long or use of tons of space. I think it's fine, but that's just me. - I don't see why not use the same format that's in place at Game of Thrones, where it links to a character list article. Sock (
tocktalk) 21:37, 24 March 2017 (UTC)- It should be removed. There's no point in the infobox being so cluttered. It looks like an amateur wrote it. Besides, readers will be more informed if they know which actor is in which season. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.247.252.237 (talk) 03:21, 14 July 2017 (UTC)
- It is too long and it is impossible to carry out any fair removals. Yes, I like the horizontal/bulleted list as a format but favour total removal from the Info' box. Cheers! Gareth Griffith‑Jones (The Welsh Buzzard) 08:43, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

Poor organization
[edit]I wanted to know the name of the actor who played Omar Little.
(1) I clicked on The Wire, then clicked on Main_cast, couldn't find what I wanted easily so clicked over to
(2) List of The Wire characters
If I were designing the "List of the Wire characters" page, I'd start with a ... [wait for it] ... List! But maybe that's just me. Still couldn't find what I wanted so clicked from there to
(3) Street-level_characters_of_The_Wire
then clicked to Omar's_crew; then to yet another page
(4) Omar Little and associates
By this time the click-click-click was getting amusing :-) But still no Omar. From there I clicked to
(5) Omar Little
Even there, the actor's name wasn't in the opening paragraph, where it should be IMO.
Yes, I see that there were ways to find cleverer, less obvious, places to click to short-circuit this chain somewhat. I see this sort of anal retentive re-directions a lot at Wikipedia lately. If all y'all don't see the problem, I'm afraid I can't edify y'all Jamesdowallen (talk) 11:13, 7 July 2018 (UTC)
WP:URFA/2020 notes
[edit]Reviewing for WP:URFA/2020. Addressing these comments can help this article remain a featured article.
- There are several sentences with no references (excluding those citing the series itself).
- MOS:SMALLTEXT should not be used in infoboxes.
- Images need alt text per MOS:ACCIM; table needs a caption + row/column scopes per MOS:DTAB.
- The episodes section does not conform to MOS:TVPLOT.
- There is no ratings/viewership section.
- The reception section appears disorganized.
- There are some extremely short paragraphs (1–2 sentences).
- It seems odd that the cast and characters section follows the style/themes sections.
- there shouldn't need to be references in the lead of a television show article (apart from a quote, which could be paraphrased instead).
- there are some questionable sources (Hobo Trashcan, IMDb, Cosmodrome Magazine, Identity Theory, student newspapers, etc.).
- Aside from the journals, there is a lack of sources from databases now available for free at The Wikipedia Library, which may enhance the article.
- Citations need checks for proper italics; working links. Heartfox (talk) 01:42, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

The Wire → The Wire (TV series) – And the location "The Wire" be made a redirect to the Wire (disambiguation). The page was moved 13 years ago without much participation. Even then many users had opposed the move. (See Talk:The Wire/Archive 1) The TV series was broadcasted then. Since then many new articles were created on this location and I believe a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC should be reassessed after 14 years. For now it should be redirected to the Disambiguation page Wire (disambiguation). The Wire (India) may also be a candidate for the Primary Topic, but I have not checked all the contenders. Venkat TL (talk) 12:34, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose, the show is clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.--Ortizesp (talk) 14:41, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose The existence of other subjects at a name is obviously not reason alone for a lack of primary topic -- otherwise, we would have no need for the concept at all! The show dominates search results, Google book results, and page views. Were this about the page "Wire" it would be a different story (although it would still win the page view argument), but readers looking for a page called "wire" won't be searching "The Wire" (and for the small number who choose to make that weird choice, the hatnote will help direct them).--Yaksar (let's chat) 14:48, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. The nominator has given no reasoning why the TV show is not the primary topic here. We don't "reassess" things solely for the sake of it. Calidum 15:04, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. This is the primary topic for "The Wire". Rreagan007 (talk) 23:41, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
