Nurses is a very unique, hippish Indie Rock band from Portland, Organ The band has three members, Aaron Chapman who sings and plays guitar and keyboard. John Bowers is the Backup Singer and also plays keyboard James Mitchell is the drummer/ percussionist and visual artist. All of the band members are 25 and are very close friends. We hang out almost every day,” Chapman says,“I think the longest we’ve gone without seeing each other is, like, a day. But on that day we definitely called or emailed or something. ”Their sound is a mix of Experimental Rock, Alternative rock and Psychedelic pop. But the band mainly want to Focus on the Visual aspect of their music. Bowers "When I listen to our record, it's a pretty visual experience. "I think it would be really awesome to have some visual accompaniment to everything we do musically." Champman also stated “We want to build a set and have it be almost a diorama feel... and also put projections on it," describes Chapman. "The whole idea in the first place is that we want it to be less of a traditional rock show with band, band, band, and kind of want to make it a fun multimedia experience."
According to radioexile.com Writer Holly Perry say’s “It’s the vocals that really confuse me. They sound like a Beach Boys clone that secretly wants to be Gnarls Barkley...”,Willamette Week had a “Best New Band Poll” and the Nurse were tied for second with 66 points. Willamette Week also described the band as a “long-lost psychedelic Elephant 6 band who stole Animal Collective’s gear and tripped out on The Wizard of Oz one too many times.” Redfine Magazine said “blending everything together in a way that turns layers of instrumentation, samples, and loops into structured tracks, Nurses create underlying backgrounds which teem with life. Keyboard crescendos, ambiguous vocal clippings, and electronic noises provide a solid albeit unusual foundation for the band to build off of.”
Bowers and Champman were best friends in junior High School and formed a group from Idaho which moved to Southern California. in 2006, they recorded and independently released their debut album, Hangin' Nothin' But Our Hands Down. Chapman and Bowers then moved on to Portland, Oregon where they met Drummer James Mitchell. The Three then joined Dead Oceans Records on May 21, 2009 and released their album Dead Oceans. Then on August 4, 2009 the Nurses released there second album, Apple's Acre which has mainly got them notice. Champman Say’s “Even though we have electronics, fundamentally our songs are not that different than a folk song or a pop song ….We got in the habit of making lots of tapes where we just hit ‘record’ and see what happens.” It will be very interesting if the Nurses well succeed in their music career. But how they started off with Apple’s Acre the Sky is the Limit for them. Source:www.radioexile.com, www.wwweek.com, Redfinemagazine.com
