Articles For Deletion
Hi, one or both of the following situations applies to you, and you may therefore be interested in related discussions.
- You expressed an opinion about the proposed deletion of an article concerning one of the first 200 verses of the Gospel of Matthew. Would you therefore like to join a centralised discussion about the other 199 articles at Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/200 verses of Matthew
- You expressed an opinion about the proposed deletion of an article concerning one of the first 19 verses of the 20th Chapter of the Gospel of John. Would you therefore like to join a centralised discussion about the other 18 articles at Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/Verses of John 20
You may also be interested in a discussion of whether or not the entire text of a whole bible chapter should be contained in the 6 articles concerning those specific chapters, and whether or not they should only use the translations favoured by fundamentalists. This is being discussed at Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/Whole bible chapter text.

Proof...
No problem! I have an interest in the article itself, but I have utterly lost hope of ever explaining it to the IP trolls. Frankly I think you're wasting your time, and eventually you too will give up in despair, as have so many before you.
Gosh, that sounded dark, huh? Well, anyway, happy editing! Melchoir 08:26, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi! I like your proof! It is a very elegant approach. Unfortunately, it has a hidden assumption, that I fear the anon(s?) will not accept: You use the fact that limits are unique to conclude that since and , then . Anyway, I agree with Melchior that the anons probably are a lost cause - but that doesnt mean that we can't have fun finding new ways to prove obvious facts :-) Rasmus (talk) 14:56, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
Hello! what do you think of this? I put it in my user space, since I'm not sure about creating a subpage in the article. If you like this, we could post it to the Wikiproject Math and ask for the community's consensus. Jesushaces 05:48, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, I forgot to ask you to please edit it. I'm thinking of asking the math comunity to go into the page and edit it, so as to come up with a reasonable version, think I should go ahead? (Or should I give you and Melchoir a little extra time? ;) Jesushaces 01:56, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
I'm calling out a posse, to fight for freedom of choice, to fight all those who think that only their opinion's right, template:user fsm was speedy deleted by an administrator without any cause or even discussion, I'm therefore putting it up for undeletion since people have put a jihad out against opinions in userboxes. As you were one of many people using the template, I'm trying to rally you into the posse. If you think the template should be returned to active status, put in a vote at Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Userbox_debates#template:user_fsm. Janizary 04:26, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

It's an interesting idea... I'm not optimistic, but I'm intrigued. Are you going to advertise it? Melchoir 06:33, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
Calculator deletion
Ahoy-hoy; the calculator spelling reshuffle is done. Thank you for your support on how to do it.
I also moved the long list of calculator words to a new page. This caught someone's eye, and they marked it for deletion. I'm writing this because, with your work on the theory on calculator spelling, I'd think you would disagree with that thought. I'd appreciate if you spent a minute to visit the talk page at list of calculator words and voice your opposition.
Thanks again for your good work, and feel free to contact me. Spamguy 16:30, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

Hello. I've just completed a rounding up of all of the articles relating to Discworld (world); there was a great deal of scatter and I felt they worked better as parts of the whole. But I think, post-merge, that a lot of the material has indeed, as you said, been copied straight out of the Discworld Companion. Unfortunately I don't have a copy of the Companion to hand and I was wondering if you could point out exactly what needs to be changed. Thanks for your time. Serendipodous 16:14, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

The reason for removing the videos was that linking to YouTube is completely unencyclopedic. Not to mention the videos violate copyright, a clear no-no on Wikipedia. --TheEmulatorGuy 04:15, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
Odd numbers
Hey, just letting you know I'm reverting your addition to the list, not because it's not amusing/cute, but because the whole point of sticking that in my user space was to preserve the list as it is in the only form it can be found. - No problem. I appreciate what you're doing, even. It was that that when I came across the page, I just couldn't help myself. "We apologize for the inconvenience." ;-) --DragonHawk 17:44, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sure thing. You know, I suspect "I just couldn't help myself" was the reason the list exists in the first place ;) Confusing Manifestation 04:09, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what's funnier - the entry on WP:LAME, or the fact that the very first entry in said list doesn't actually meet the single criterion required :) 81.104.170.167 03:00, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Hello. I'm in agreement with the recent revert you made on adoption. Not sure if you already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Best regards, Wǐkǐɧérṃǐť(Talk) 01:57, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

AFC Backlog Drive!
WikiProject AFC is holding a one month long assessment drive!
The goal of this drive is to eliminate the backlog of unreviewed articles. The drive is running from July 15, 2007 – August 15, 2007.
Awards to be won range from delicacies such as the WikiCookie to barnstars.
There is a backlog of more than one year, so start reviewing articles! Visit the drive's page and help out!
This drive was organized by GrooveDog in an attempt to terminate that nasty backlog.

Your opinion welcome at deletion review for Plot of Les Mis
After Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Plot of Les Misérables closed as a deletion, I'm challenging the way the closing administrator acted as in violation of Wikipedia rules. Your participation is welcome at that discussion, Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2007 July 14. Please keep in mind that only arguments related to either new information or to how Wikipedia rules were violated or not violated in closing the discussion will be considered. It isn't a replay of the original AfD. I'm familiar with WP:CANVASSING and I am alerting everyone who participated in that discussion to the deletion review. I won't contact anyone again on this topic, and I apologize if you consider this note distracting. Noroton 04:23, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Ridiculously minor issue
Thanks for closing those nominations. This is really nitpicky, but when you mark your final decision, if you don't enter down two lines, your comment sometimes gets added to the end of someone else's comment (e.g. below), and it initially looks like you didn't mark your final decision at all. I've corrected your comments on the nominations page already. Thanks again for closing them. --Tewy 03:13, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Articles for creation
We are one week in to the drive, and it's already going fantastic. Numerous days of backlogs have been tackled, with hundreds of articles having been reviewed. We do, however, have some news!
First off, a HUGE congratulations to everyone participating so far. I understand some members are inactive due to vacation, but we are still making great progress.
Secondly, make sure that before you go off and review old submissions, that you review all submissions for the present day, and the day before, so that we aren't actually making a bigger backlog, by letting submissions get archived while we're checking stuff from 2006.
Third, remember to update your running total, on the drive page. Honesty is the best policy, so if you lie about the number of articles you've reviewed, we'll all make angry faces while looking at your userpage.
And, last, if you have any questions about the drive, feel free to ask me, or any other members of the project.
Great job, everyone! We're going to get that backlog!

A friendly note
Hi there. In your response to the question on the mathematics reference desk ("The future cannot change the past"), I agree with your sentiments, that the OP was coming to a foregone conclusion and not considering the possibility of being wrong, but the way you said it was not particularly civil in tone. In particular, things like "by the way, are you, like, 5 years old ?", "Shame on you" and your follow up (where you seem to be trying to lead a train of thought along the lines of "the OP thinks their teacher is a stupid cow" -> "we've proven the OP wrong" -> "the OP is therefore not as intelligent as the teacher" -> "the OP is X, where X is something worse than a stupid cow") are definitely uncivil, biting the newbie, and in my interpretation at least just short of being personal attacks. Remember, just because someone is being rude doesn't mean you have to sink to their level when you deal with them, and in future you might want to moderate your posts to be a little less confronting, as it were. Cheers, Confusing Manifestation 17:50, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, I received your friendly note. Thanks for your input. However, we will have to agree to disagree. I felt that I was civil and not rude to the OP on the Math Desk. The comment about a 5 year old means "your behavior is analogous to that of an immature child" -- that is simply a factual observation on my part. Neither rude nor uncivil -- just an observation / opinion. The comment about shame means "the behavior that you are engaging in is shameful" -- again, simply a factual observation on my part. Again, neither rude nor uncivil -- again, just an observation / opinion. Regarding the follow up post. You should re-read that carefully. It simply asks the OP two very simple (factual) questions and asks him to reflect on his answers. The long and convoluted argument of logic you put forth is merely something that you yourself (not I) have interjected into the posting. My posting is simply words typed on a computer screen ... you yourself are interjecting the emotion, tone, etc. Not I. Just because you yourself read tone/emotion into typed words does not necessarily mean that they are there. Rather, that is simply your interpretation (albeit, incorrect in this case). I am always amazed on Wikipedia how persons will -- of their own accord -- interject some negative and offensive tone/intent ... and then, in the very next breath, complain about how the tone/intent (which they subjectively inserted) is offensive to them. Let me give you an example. If Bob says to Mary, "did you gain weight?" ... that is merely a factual question. And Bob is seeking the answer to that question (yes or no). It is no different than Bob saying to Mary, "did you drop this dollar that I see on the floor?". However, if Mary (completely upon herself) interprets the first question as Bob "really" saying "geez, you look fat!" ... then that is an offensive tone/intent merely interjected by Mary herself (not by Bob) to which Mary will take offense. So, Bob has no control over how Mary subjectively decides to interpret his tone/intent from a black-and-white factual question. (No different than the question about the dollar bill dropped on the floor.) So, if someone like Mary is -- of their own accord -- interjecting offensive material (tone/intent) that is not there ... then that is Mary's issue, not Bob's. Bob can control what he speaks. However, only Mary has control over what she hears (or thinks she hears or wants to hear). That is, Mary is independently creating her own "issue" ... only to then complain about that issue. So, that is Mary's problem -- over which she has control. Not Bob's problem -- over which he has no control. If Mary decides to insert or inject negativity in emotion/tone (that is, if she chooses to interpret the factual question as "wow, you look fat") ... then that is her problem, not Bob's. So back to you and me and the OP. You should re-read my posts, especially the second follow up. The follow up is a string of neutral, albeit thought-provoking, questions for the OP to ponder. If you yourself are interjecting these negative interpretations of simple factual questions (i.e., that long logic argument you offered), that is on you -- not on me. In fact, you yourself say "in your follow up, you seem to be leading us down this argument's path." I would posit, it seems that way to who? To you? Perhaps. But not to me. You are putting that in there, not me -- as you acknowledge through use of the words "it seems to me like ..." So, yes -- it may seem that way to you. It does not seem that way to me. So, I have no control over what emotions/tone you inject into my words. That is your control. And, in fact, to jump to a negative conclusion (that is not there, but that you have injected there) says something about you and your outlook on relationships and communication. So, I in no way feel that I was rude or uncivil to the OP at all. Nor did I stoop down to his level (of rudeness and incivility). I merely gave him food for thought. The OP (and you) shouldn't kill the messenger (me) -- just because it is a message that you don't like. That OP needs to look in a mirror, and I won't sugar coat that or treat him with kid gloves. So, these are my thoughts. Thanks for your friendly note ... which I did take as a friendly note. And you can take this as a friendly reply. Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro 20:35, 12 August 2007 (UTC))

"Vanity" pages
Hi there. Was just doing some New page patrol and noticed you'd been tagging quite a few pages for speedy deletion as "vanity" pages. The term "vanity page" is now considered deprecated for a few reasons (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to handle conflicts of interest and scroll down to the bold text that says 'Avoid using the word "vanity" or similar judgemental terms'), and is not considered a valid speedy reason. I would suggest that you take a quick look at the criteria for speedy deletion and try to stick to those, in particular perhaps using one of the pre-made speedy templates. In most cases A7, no claim of notability, would be the one to use instead of vanity (tag the page with {{db-bio}}), or if it doesn't meet one of the speedy criteria consider either prodding it or putting it on AFD. Thanks, Confusing Manifestation 00:11, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for bringing that to my attention; I was thinking "Vanity License Plate" style, not meaning it to be offensive (I have custom plates myself). Geez, these policies change and I can't keep up... ;-) VigilancePrime 00:15, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Big Grey Box?
What big grey box? I don't see anything on the page. Do you mean the bit in Wikipedia:Reference desk/guidelines which says not to answer homework questions? Agreed, shouldn't do that, but this OP seems to be really struggling and I didn't want him to go away when he still had the wrong answer. SpinningSpark 17:24, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
My edits to Vegemite
Thanks for the notes, and apologies about the American/English spellings; I appreciate your pointer to the relevant policy. As far as the jingle title, shouldn't all words in a song title be uppercase? Kurl (talk) 05:09, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Just wanted to bring this to your attention
ConMan, I just noticed that in a recent message on the Help Desk page, you used the expression ad nauseum. That is incorrect -- it should be ad nauseam. I don't mean to come across as a Latin nazi about this, just wanted to let you know for future reference. --ukexpat (talk) 22:45, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

WP:AFC Backlog Drive
WikiProject Articles for creation needs your help! | |
WikiProject Articles for creation has done a tremendous job in working at WP:AFC over the past 7½ months. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication! Together, we've made the submission process easier and more streamlined, developed tools to make the process go faster for reviewers, and cut the backlog down to a mere fraction of what it once was. Well done! As you all are aware, however, our work is not quite yet done. The project still has 10 archive pages left to complete, which include over half a month's worth of submissions, many of which have not been completely reviewed. We need your help to finish looking over these neglected submissions so that we can finally remove the backlog notice from the page, and put an end to the more than two year old backlog that has been a thorn in our side for ages! Participants will receive an AFC Barnstar, so hurry up and help out while there's still work to be done! Make sure to sign in on the WikiProject's talk page so we know who is involved in what promises to be our final effort to complete this goal. Thank you for all your help! |
You are receiving this letter because you are listed as a participant in the Articles for creation WikiProject at WP:WPAFC. To avoid receiving further notices, please remove your name from the list. Thanks!
