Conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, ComiCONNMitch. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Connecticut ComiCONN, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 05:00, 26 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I see you uploaded File:Connecticut ComiCONN Logo.jpg to Wikimedia Commons and placed it under a Creative Commons license. You do realize that people can now freely make t-shirts and other commercial products using that logo without owing you or the con anything for use of the copyright. —C.Fred (talk) 20:34, 26 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Re: ComiCONN article

[edit]

Greetings! You left a message on my talk page, but I'm going to reply here. I'm watching your talk page, so if you respond below my message, we can continue the discussion here. That way, it's all captured here.

As I'm the creator/contributor how do I avoid that issue that says I'm the major contributor?
What do I cite? Can I link to the articles I listed on the bottom? What do I cite the locations? Dates?

The COI tag is present because you are the major contributor the the article and you have a connection to ComiCONN. The only way for that problem to be fixed is for other editors, who are independent of ComiCONN, to review the article and decide that it's neutrally written.

Finally how do I place a copyright on the art I uploaded. You made a comment that what I placed is free to be used by anyone — Preceding unsigned comment added by ComiCONNMitch (talkcontribs) 01:36, 28 January 2014 (UTC) [reply]

It is under copyright. As it stands right now, you have asserted that the logo is (1) your work, (2) copyrighted by you, and (3) free for other users to copy, distribute, transmit, and adapt the work, provided they credit you as the creator and place their derivative work under a similar license. The grant of the license cannot be rescinded, so "the genie is out of the bottle."

That said, the underlying point of all that is that you created the logo and hold the rights to the image. If you did not create the logo, or if you created it and transferred the rights to somebody else, then you can't grant those rights to other people, and the license is thus void. So the question is, did you create the logo, or is it somebody else's work? That'll tell me what the next step is. —C.Fred (talk) 02:56, 28 January 2014 (UT

No the logo is 100% mine. I am an artist and designer so I create all the images a use. The same goes for the superhero character as well.

So I need to find another person familiar with Comiconn to contribute. Okay I'll look I on that.

If it's your artwork, the license is not revokable.
And that's your signature on the superhero character, I take it? It appears to be signed artwork. (Of course, under the license terms, that could be removed from the image.)
Again, the key word is independent editor. If you solicit the editor, there's a chance of the article being tainted (canvassing isn't always taken kindly to by some people here). It's best to just let other editors come to the article naturally. —C.Fred (talk) 03:51, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Connecticut ComiCONN. While objective prose about beliefs, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Trying to fix the "problems" listed and add a category and references - this is my first wiki page and I am sorry if I am making mistakes - I am learning as I go -

The problem is, with some of the text you added and the changes to the wording you made, you left the article in much worse state than it was beforehand. That's why editing with a conflict of interest are cautioned to just suggest edits on the talk page and let neutral editors implement the changes, if they meet policy. —C.Fred (talk) 00:11, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Connecticut ComiCONN, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

Want page deleted

[edit]

No longer part of this convention after 8/16/2016 and would like all content deleted and page removed. Tried twice on 8/10/2016 but copy was put back up. Normanwright227 (talk) 10:10, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

About the request to delete this page

Hi,

This is a talk page for a user account, and user talk pages are not normally deleted. However, you are free to remove any content you want from your own talk page. The content will still be in the page history, but people would have to click on the history link to see the content. See WP:OWNTALK for more information. Also, if you want this account name to no longer mention the convention, you can have it changed (see Wikipedia:Changing username). Calathan (talk) 19:28, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Well, at the least we can delete the old draft from this user talk page. Feel free to copy any content you wish to retain to User:ComiCONNMitch/sandbox and work on it there. – wbm1058 (talk) 14:56, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
