Trying to Rename my account to something suitable for long term use.

There has been much talk about unified logins across wikimedia projects. I'm wanting to do that, but don't like my username that much. It was a spur of the moment choice when I first joined wikipedia. I've made an usurpation request for a username I'd like that hasn't been used for contributions to the en.wiki since 2001.

I apologize if my reaction was too knee-jerk; it seems your edit was made in good faith. We've had trouble in the past with vandalism that takes the form of subtle modifications to other users' comments, and I assumed the worst when I saw your edit. Nimur, I did see the rules for the Reference desk that suggested only allowing minor changes for clarity in other user's comments. Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

Edge of the Universe (song) seems right to me. It was part of an album. A lot of the singles at {{Bee Gees}} and Category:Bee Gees songs have (song) or (Bee Gees song) in the title, and it is an actual song with lyrics at [1]. I've been trying to get all the bee gees links to point to the new article name, but am having trouble locating them all. is there a bot I can use on specific pages to change specified links to a new link?Cliff (talk) 02:13, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

There is Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser. But I suspect most links were from {{Bee Gees}} and the corresponding pages will automatically be removed from Special:WhatLinksHere/Edge of the Universe when the job queue gets to them. CSD notification

The page L.A. Street Racer looks like it may be a valid CSD, but I prefer not to delete a page unless the creator has been notified. I understand that sometimes automated tools fail to do the notification for some reason. Not sure if that was the case, but could you make the notification?SPhilbrickT

fighting overly technical articles

Hi Cliff - glad to know I'm not on my own. My pet hate is smart arses who get together in their little clubs on here and write to impress each other rather than write something the general reader can understand. They don't seem to understand that being able to communicate a complex idea in a simple form is not 'dumbing down' - it's a rare talent. I have several times requested that the page for Teledyne Brown Engineering be removed from a Redirect to Teledyne and reestablished as it was originally. My request resulted in a new page as cited in the subset. Justification: Teledyne Brown Engineering has a very valid history and certainly belongs in the Wikipedia encuclopedia.

Mr. Watson, I am not certain why you posted this information on my talk page. Do you need help with your article? Was this information intended for the requested moves page? It seems from your description that the Teledyne article is where your information about Teledyne Brown Engineering belongs. Have you attempted to put your History information on the Teledyne page? photo publishing

Hello again. Another question: if my article Call me by your name is approved, I would like to add a photo of the book cover eventually. How do I go about getting approval for publishing such a photo? Would I need to show a letter from the publisher or the writer himself? What do I need? thanks. I'm not too sure about using images, this is nothing I've done before. Cover art is usually copyrighted. I think Wikipedia does not accept licenses for use. Something is either copyright-free, and we can use it, or there's a copyright and we can't. There are some exceptions for fair use listed at that link, but I'm not sure how to interpret them. Look at "Acceptable use"/"Images"/1, it seems to say that cover art is free, but "Unacceptable use"/"Images"/9 seems to indicate that cover art usage is only acceptable if that art itself, not the album or book is the subject of the article. I would post your question on that page's discussion page, or read the discussion there first to see if that question has already been answered. Good luck! Cliff (talk) 02:16, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Written English is "mathematical terms". Symbolic math is not necessarily preferred, nor more correct. In fact, symbolic math can be used differently in different regions. It's not necessary. Also, this discussion should take place at the AP page. Cliff (talk) 14:25, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Thinking more clearly now. There are three main quite different ways that the Archimedean axiom is normally stated. And I've yet to see any article that refers to more than one of the three, although some articles, such as "Completeness of Ordered Fields" by James Forsythe Hall, give many synonyms for one or the other. That means that I can't be sure if all three are in fact equivalent. All three need to be in the AP Wikipedia article. I'll give it a bit more thought then probably make some very major changes to AP. Do not undo those changes. Overall, it's a darn shame that Wikipedia "Archimedean Axiom" redirects to "Archimedean Principle". "Archimedean Axiom" is a better title. Perhaps I need to break the link, though I'd prefer not to. Hi George, my name is Cliff. If you recall, I am the person who removed your move request and suggested that you go through WP:AFC. I normally watch the articles for which I have removed requests. The reason I reverted your edit is because that template clearly states that it should be removed after a review, and it should be removed by someone other than the article's creator, (that's you). A good way to get a review of your article is to place a request for feedback. The normal process for disagreement on edits is just like what we're doing now. Someone edits boldly. If another disagrees with the edit, they will revert. Then discussion happens, usually on the talk page of the article. I'm open to more discussion, though it would be better to discuss your article at its discussion page. Start a new section there if you would like to continue talking. The reason your article was declined is given on this old version of your article. The references you are using are not references that Wikipedia usually accepts. Read the link about verifiable sources on that old version. You should remove all references from youtube, MySpace, and other places that are not verifiable. You should use sources like magazines (rolling stone, etc...), newspapers (new York times,...etc), and other sources that have to use verifiable information. Let me explain what I mean by explain ...

When I asked for an explanation of your action I was hoping to see something like

instead of a repeat of what you had said before and a suggestion for an inappropriate action on my part. I am relatively new here and still trying to understand the ropes. My apologies. I am not denying your request. I am simply trying to tell you that Requested moves is not the place to request that an article you created be placed in Wikipedia. Requested moves is where people request that current articles get moved to different names. There has been a lot of confusion about this lately, and I'm trying to get it cleared up as we speak. The correct method for submitting your new article is to put {{subst:AFC submission/submit}} on the top of your article (not the discussion page). This will let the editors at Articles for Creation know that you think your article is ready to be included in Wikipedia. After a review, they will include it, or suggest improvements before it gets included. Sorry for this confusion. Taking another look, I see that there are more issues. The article already exists, but you did a major overhaul in your sandbox. I see what's going on. People don't usually like sandbox work because then the edit history is attached to your subpage rather than to the article in question. If you want, you can attempt a merge of your page to the old page. I suggest doing it piecemeal rather than all at once. If anybody has any objections to certain parts of your overhaul it's better that they revert those specific things rather than your entire work. Some people have been known to simply copy their entire sandbox's contents and replace the old page with the new one, but I don't suggest that because of the issues I already mentioned. People tend to freak out when they see a MAJOR edit happening in one fell swoop. I think it's mostly because they don't want to read the whole article in a sitting to check your work. It was supposed to be moved to the old article Projective plane name, something which I can not do myself. The editors at wp:AFC have rightly pointed out that the old article exists, so they won't touch it. Can you make a suggestion as to what I should now do? I thought that I read that what you are suggesting was discouraged and that the move was the preferred method. I am willing to go either way, but the nature of my edits makes the piecemeal approach very difficult (which is why I did it in my sandbox in the first place). A move also is not the way to go because your sandbox's history will replace the original article's history, something we don't want to lose. Anthony Appleyard said something about a history merge, I would ask him what he meant and if that's something he'd help you with. I think an admin needs to do that I've got no idea.
