Woburn Gifted

Christoper, thanks for the message on my talk page. I guess I was being overzealous and you were right to pull the Speedy on Woburn Gifted. Nevertheless, the article does not assert any real importance to the subject, nor does it even provide the location of the school to which the department is supposedly connected. It is, though, full of nonsense including the fact that many students “go on to prestigious post-secondary learning institutions such as... Hidden Leaf Village” and that a “giant snake” has been known to protect the school from Gamabunta's wrath. The teachers named in the article are all Naruto characters and the author 24.101.82.247 is a repeat vandal of the Woburn Collegiate Institute page. What are your suggestions? Rousseau

Your edit of my commentary on Rousseau (which I did as an anon, before I became a user), placing it as a footnote, was clearly a better way to handle the material than the way I had done it. As you said, it was too long for an intro. But my concern in dropping it to a mere footnote is that the ramifications of the various interpretations of the statement will be lost to most readers. I guess I would like them reading the rest of the article with that perspective in mind.

Might there be a middle ground? Do you think the point could be made elsewhere in the body of the article? I ask you as one who has clearly been doing this much longer than I. Unschool 20:47, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

Woodroffe Avenue

The version of "08:34, 24 September 2005" (which is 5 days prior to the AfD close, and 2 days before the last AfD comment) is practically word for word identical with the most current version available, except for the addition of one short (2-3 sentance) paragrpah at the very end, plus three cited references. I have done a detailed comparison of these two versions. I honestly do not think current version can be described as "much enhanced" over the 24 Sept 05 version. There seem to have been several edits during the AfD, and the version near the end of the AfD may have been significantly enhanceds over the one at the start, but people voting well after this version was posted still voted to delete, so i think we have to take it that a version essentially identical to the current one was deleted by AfD. Please reconsider your VfU vote in light of these facts. DES ^(talk) 20:12, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

About you

Chris, I've been meaning to come by and say this for a while. You do a great job around the wiki, both as an editor and more generally as a contributor. I've been a fan of you federalist contribs for a while, and have secretly been hoping that you'll write an entire series of detailed articles on the lot :). Especially #51, which is too important to be a one para stub. I don't consider myself sufficiently knowledgeable about them to write well on them, but am very happy to cheer from the sidelines. I did make a couple of edits to the refs in one, I think 10, recently, one of which I note you disapproved of; I understand the view, although I do believe a mutually acceptable method of writing that section is possible. I intend to get to it in some weeks when free of the professional duties currently preventing my usual level of involvement on WP. Removal of Zereshk from RfA

Thank you for removing Zereshk from RfA. That was an astute observation, and was missed a few people including myself. Just a couple of notes;

• When you remove an RfA, please make sure that you close out the RfA properly by changing the Vote Here link to "Final" , updating the final tally of votes, and adding the appropriate header/footer (in this case {{subst:rfaf}}-{{subst:rfab}}). I did this for Zereshk, and as an example of what to do, you can see this diff.
• Also, please make sure that you update Wikipedia:Unsuccessful adminship candidacies. Again, an example diff.

WikiProject Inclusion vote

While I understand that there's not much it can do with two members, there's the distinct possibility that it will grow - and inspire others to fire up in response. I'm one of the few Wikipedians these days that's been around long enough to remember the absolute shitfight that occurred once the Association of Inclusionist Wikipedians became active on Meta, and Wikipedia would be a much less friendly place if a de facto ceasefire hadn't been found on that front. Thanks for your vote on the Dictators AfD

I am now on vacation and can't really use the web much, so I can't keep an eye on the process.

• Clearly there is no grounds to delete the article based on NPOV considerations - since if there are at least some dictators (some users deny this is NPOV by the way), they can be listed.
• 172's reason for deletion is that it is OR to classify someone as a dictator. (Clearly a willful distortion and utterly fatuous.) Even if you accept his take on OR, the same logic as above applies - if at least some people can be described as dictators without violating OR (a position which even he concedes), there can be a list. If 172 was behaving rigorously, he would have changed his vote to keep when he conceded that even in the terms of his take on OR, some people can be described as dictators.
• The other argument used by some is that it is hard to classify some people, clearly no ground for deletion of the article.
• By my count, there are 25 "deletes" and "19 Keeps". Of those "deletes" it appears that 13 were spammed by 172 prior to voting - often with obsequious comments attached.
• 172 has refused to materially defend his take on NOR in terms of any criteria in WP:NOR even abrasively deleting a query from a newbie on the subject in his talk page. Is it possible to get some official clarification on the NOR policy before this becomes a precedent? jucifer 02:21, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Compensating variation & wage gap

You rephrased and removed my linking to wage gap in your compensating variation article example comparing different jobs across the same group of workers. I totally agree with that- that example wasn't refering to the same idea(wage gap is not used to refer to a wage difference between jobs). However, I think compensating variation can also be used to explain wage gaps; I've added a new paragraph to the article on how. Message me if you disagree. =) Intangir 20:13, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

Ok, I've reworded the paragraph to be more careful with the semantics. BTW, here is where I got the inspiration for the motherhood example. I think that when that paper refers to the wage gap they aren't thinking of a strict 'equal labor' definition, but more of a 'seemingly equal labor' definition. Intangir 01:21, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

• Hi! That was actually the first article I wrote, so it's not super clear or sourced. The term is usually used by those on the left to descibe the sort of policies discussed in the article. The concept was developed by Michael Kalecki [2] during WWII, in the paper "The Political Aspects of Full Employment." Getting hold of this paper from a library would be a good source to start with. Online sources are harder to come by, but a Google search might provide something helpful. Google Scholar also points to a number of other papers that could help you out. Hope this helps...
