Just trying to turn a redlink blue for tomorrow's main-page article: it's in the first line. I'm sure someone will add to the article soon. Tony 11:02, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I noticed that. Sandy was helping the main author to spruce it up for today's exposure, and at the same time knows something about the topic of what was a bare stub. She's pretty hot off the mark! Tony 05:11, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Jimmy Algerino

You tagged the article about Jimmy Algerino for speedy deletion.I know that the article is short (so, I understand why you've tagged it) but I've improved it a little since you tagged it. I think that this article should be kept considering the titles of this player and his career, so I've tagged it with {{hangon}}.Furthermore, I think this player is more notable than others. .--Latouffedisco 10:33, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I removed the speedy deletion tag you placed here. As a holder of the title Earl Erne, the subject has a prima facie case of notability and as such cannot be speedied for notability reasons. If you would like to pursue the possibility of deletion, there is always WP:AFD. Thanks! Johnleemk | Talk 11:05, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi there. Saw the bot creation and such, and went ahead and wikified User:Speedy Deletion Bot/sourcecode, since without the nowiki tags it was inadvertently listing itself with two CSD tags :P Btw, it should be safe to add a /{{db[|-][^}]*}}/ regex to keep from having to add a bunch of db tags manually. --slakr 10:59, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Ah, cool. Just keep in mind that you can use assertions as well as submatches to get either the custom reason (for db|reason...) or the subtag (db-bio, for example). I just figure it'd save a bunch of copypasting, but *shrug* it's totally your call. Anyway, it's lookin' great. Keep up the good work. =) --slakr 11:21, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Lord Edward Davenport

Hi - I have noticed a lot of activity on the Lord Edward Davenport article. I have some accurate information and would like to edit the article to represent this. He did in fact acquire his title after inheriting it. This information is available on a genealogy web site.

Although he was involved with the purchase of the Sierra Leone High Commission, accusations of fraud are unfounded. A case brought against one of the companies to which he has a minor interest in has been dropped and the case was not an indictment of fraud, but a civil matter.

The Sun correctly reports an incident by his friend, Alex King, however this is irrelevant to the person to whom this article mentions. --—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Goalsended (talkcontribs).

WP:OLYMPICS

Hey there. I noticed your comment here regarding active and friendly WikiProjects (and as a sidenote, I can tell you that projects of that dual standardare hard to come by!). Anyway, I wanted to let you know that the Olympics WikiProject is always active and always friendly, and always has stuff in need to be done. For instance:

  • The 2008 Olympics are coming up fast, and so really right now what we're trying to do is bring consistency to the 2004 Summer Olympics articles, because they can be used as great references for 08, and it will reduce the amount of work we have to do in the long run fixing other people's mistakes.
  • There is word that unsourced biographies of athletes might be deleted soon, so it may be important to find sources for some of these articles.
  • We are eventually going to make guidelines for how specific types of pages under our jurisdiction should look (so it will be easier for us there and others outside the project to edit), but we have yet to start making them!

There's lots more, too, but this is just what we're all sort of working on together. So if you're interested, just go ahead and read the multitudes of discussion going on at the talk page of the Olympics project page, and join in if you would like, or ask me if you have any questions! Will do and have just done so. I have also removed category and template discussions that have closed and cleaned up that section. Take a look at the entry for Radio Monash as that is a different format for a 2nd or later proposal for deletion. Your bot will have to handle that if it can (or rather if you can!). When you get the bot running, I'll have a look at the perl but my perl is a bit old fashioned and a bit rusty. --Bduke 06:34, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Unusual Adoption Request

Hi! Im an English teacher in Toluca Mexico (west of Mexico City). My Advanced B classes will be contributing to Wikipedia as the focus of their English course for Fall 2007. I am looking for people who would like to mentor my students (who will be working in groups) as they do the following assignments: Edit and article (adding a citation), writing a stub with a citation, translating an English language article for Spanish Wikipedia and for the final project, writing a full article for English Wiki (they can expand on the stub mentioned previously). What I would like to do is put a list of "mentors/adopters" on my talk page as a kind of short cut for my students, who have limited time to get things done. The semester begings Aug 6, but the real Wikipedia work wont begin until the beginning of Sept. If you would like to add your name to my list, please go to my talk page and add it there, perhaps with a short introduction, if you like.

Thank you!

New Bot?

hey chris!

On the IRC we have been discussing having a bot put together which will make it easier to rename an image by downloading an image which has been tagged to be renamed as something else, copy its description/licensing, and reupoad it under another name which was specified in the template and, add the information from the old image. It would then have to mark the old image for deletion. It is quite a big task (IMHO, I haven't written the code for a bot but, i have done coding) If you are interested in the challenge to develop it or, work with another user, just drop me a line. Thanks Talk to symode09's or How's my driving? 18:23, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

AWNB AFD

Can you please stop the bot deleting information that I add? I added information next to the Afd links to help AWNB users in seeing what each Afd is about; yet the stupid bot just deletes it. I'm trying to help people and the bot is not being constructive. Please change it so it doesn't wipe people's information. JRG 03:15, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

JRG. It does not help calling it a stupid bot. Chris G has done a great job in writing a bot that saves us a great deal of time in keeping this AfD page up to date, particularly when the deletion sorting page, with much the same intended content is now easy to maintain with other tools. Chris G. JRG has a point. One difference between this page and the deletion sorting page is that traditionally we have added a phrase that explains what the article is all about. Is it possible to keep these? I realise the bot is removing everything and then adding stuff back to the page, so it will not be straight forward. However it would be great if the bot could do that. --Bduke 07:53, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm not objecting to the existence of the bot. It does a good job and saves a lot of time. I was just annoyed by the deletion of the comments I put up there yesterday. JRG 11:21, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Please take a look at Chris G Bot

Someone recently added a new section header to the Australian deletion sorting page, which looks to have messed with how your bot outputs the list to WP:AWNB. This section header didn't need to be added and has since been removed, but looks like it messed with the bot the last time it was run. Thewinchester (talk) 22:44, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I just went over to comment on your RfA but I see that you have withdrawn it, which was probably wise at this time. I can understand the comments of those who thought you could benefit from some more experience before seeking adminship again. However, I urge you not to be demoralized by the age-related comments. My Signature

I don't see a problem with it, regardless of the rules, seeing how most administrators I encounter completely disregard it, and more importantly, some administrators even have them. Please explain why you, a member, is telling me to change it, when plenty of administrators haven't. Signed by Tommy (Talk/Contribs) 19:46, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, that sounded like me being a jerk. Sorry about that, I'll change it once I figure out what I want it to be. Thank you for the heads up. Signed by Tommy (Talk/Contribs) 19:54, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
A new signature was actually in order for me. Thanks again! -- Tommy Boy 20:36, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Reminder to mentor

Hola Mentors!

Im sending you this reminder because you volunteered to mentor my students in English Advanced B as they become contributing members of the Wikipedia community. We start working with Wikipedia in earnest next week. I ask you to take a look at your entry in the Mentor Table at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors

Please update the information, esp. with what your technical and informational expertise is or, if you have decided that you no longer want to participate, please remove your information from the table. Please watch the pages associated with the project. Students will contact you via your user page and as soon as my students have user pages, I will put them on the navigation bar associated with the project.

I don’t need to remind you that your job is NOT to write their assignments for them, of course. I certainly will tell my students that… and the fact that you are volunteers that don’t have to help them… so they need to be nice. If any students misbehave (tho I don’t expect it) don’t hesistate to contact me and I will take care of it. The goal of this project is to integrate successfully into the Wikipedia community. Anyway… what I really need your help with is helping students get oriented to Wikipedia, make appropriate changes and write about appropriate topics (see Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Syllabus for assignments). I also need your technical expertise… I am only an English teacher after all! I appreciate what technology does for us but I am no technical expert!

Again, thank you for volunteering and you will hear from us again soon! Thelmadatter 19:46, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Thelmadatter
