Guideline issues
[edit]Hi Cherryleeks. Your edits have popped up on my watchlist time and again, and in several cases, I had to revert them for various problems in regard to our guidelines. I hoped that you would take the comments I left in about every reversion to heart, but unfortunately, this has not happened. Please allow me to formalize the issues, using your edit on Hello Games as an example:
- WP:OVERLINK – Per this guideline, linking topics that are already be known to most people is to be avoided. This covers household items, like forks, but also countries, like England. Hence, England (or any other country) should not be linked, including from the infobox.
- WP:SMALLFONT and MOS:JOBTITLES – The
|key_people=
parameter used to look like this:Sean Murray ([[managing director]])
. You changed it to this:Sean Murray<br>{{small|([[Managing Director]])}}
. There are two problems with this: Per MOS:JOBTITLES, "managing director" should not be capitalized as it is not a proper noun. Furthermore, the title (or any other element in the infobox) should not be given a smaller font size due to accessibility problems, per WP:SMALLFONT. I am personally not fond of the use of<br>
here, but there is not formal guideline for this particular scenario. - WP:VLIST – You separated the list of founders by using
<br>
. Using this tag for lists creates an accessibility problem, as the guideline explains. The guideline suggests using {{Unbulleted list}}, which the article did before your edit. - WP:CITELEAD – Per this guideline, the lead section (including the infobox) does not require any sources for claims that are already verified in the body of the article, as the lead's function is to summarize the body. Therefore, the founders (which are verified in the first sentence of the body) do not need additional sources in the infobox. Furthermore, it is also unnecessary to copy-and-paste the same citation multiple times; if you need to re-use a source, use ref names instead. See WP:REFNAME for more information on that.
Please take these notes to heart. It will avoid precious editing time going to waste for you and those needing to clean up the aforementioned issues. Regards, IceWelder [✉] 11:59, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for this, IceWelder. I'm sorry I haven't seen your reversion messages. I would have stopped doing so if I've seen them. I'm learning everyday. I will be more careful next time. Cherryleeks (talk) 15:14, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
