Hi, you appear to be a regular contributor to the above. I’m on my mobile so struggling to do the updates. On this link http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/024a6982-aef1-11e9-b657-11944f524f2a there was a Privy Council yesterday and 5 new counsellors were sworn. I’m sending this in case you want to do the update. Cheers, iComputerSaysNo 07:22, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! But oops, didn't see this until someone else had done it. Updated Johnson ministry though. Charlie A. (talk) 10:06, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:School of Biological Sciences, University of Cambridge requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Abbreviation for Trinity

[edit]

Sorry to change your abbreviation for Trinity, but the context you cited where T is used as the abbreviation is a list of Cambridge colleges and I think it is confusing to give people the impression that T is the general abbreviation, so I replaced it by something more standard. By the way, I see there is space in the infobox for the Latin name but I think there's enough information there as it is so I didn't add that! --Brian Josephson (talk) 13:56, 5 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Brian Josephson: Hi, thanks for the prod! I agree, in general usage T would almost never be taken to refer to Trinity College -- didn't mean for that impression to be given. However, these codes are regularly used in official Uni publications to identify a person's College (in e.g. appointment notices, class lists). They're also used in Wikipedia pages, mostly in tables for reasons of space (e.g. Cambridge University Council). As these pseudo-official codes aren't particularly regular (e.g. TH for Trinity Hall but MUR for Murray Edwards), I think it's useful information to include in the infobox, certainly more useful than Latin names. Perhaps they can be included with a caveat/footnote that these abbreviations are mainly used to identify College membership? If you disagree, I'd probably advocate just removing the abbreviations altogether, rather than including Trin. Col. Camb. and the like across all 31 -- we'd need to find sources for such usage, for one thing. What do you think? Charlie A. (talk) 13:28, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It could be it should just be removed, as I don't see it as particularly notable information. But outside the Cambridge context my abbreviation seems pretty standard, e.g. here, which explicitly mentions it as being part of a 'preferred citation', and you'll find other examples with a search. I still think what is clearly the generally accepted abbreviation is better. In any case, is there a place where T is used without any explanation? Does that abbreviation serve any useful purpose?--Brian Josephson (talk) 18:07, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Probably not, to be fair. I'd go with just removing them, they're not especially notable facts. My thinking on adding them was that it'd be vaguely useful to have the standard abbreviations referenced if they're to be used on Wikipedia (given they aren't as natural as e.g. Trin. Coll. Camb.), and as they're a standardised attribute they'd fit in the infobox. But I get that it suggests more common usage than is factual. Probably better to just add a reference for these abbreviations at Colleges of the University of Cambridge, where they already were.Charlie A. (talk) 15:07, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've removed it now, as I believe we are agreed is reasonable.--Brian Josephson (talk) 15:56, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
