Hello. I have a biography page prepared in my sandbox, but even after exhaustive searching I have been unable to find out what I am supposed to do next to upload the page and get it approved. I would GREATLY appreciate it if you could guide me to information that specifically addresses this issue. I realize that people do this successfully every day, but yet somehow I am missing out. [edit]Since I've had to tag the sandbox for copyright violation, I'm going to reproduce the comments here, since they will no longer be visible after the deletion.
Before you attempt to submit this draft for review, you need to change quite a few things. First, the draft reads as promotional. I see that you attempted to disclose a conflict of interest, but that userbox template belongs on your own user page. Finally, you cannot use the artist's own website as your only source. In order for there to be an article, you must demonstrate notability through citations to independent reporting about him with in-depth biographical coverage of him, published by outfits with a reputation for fact checking and editorial control.
I checked against Horowitz's webpage and there's a more serious problem. After arguing with Google about what I was looking for, I found the webpage and discovered that you had not only used it as your source, but you largely copied from it. The webpage is marked as copyrighted so this draft will have to be marked for deletion. See WP:COPYVIO for more information.

- Hello, — jmcgnh. Thank you very much for your invaluable comments regarding my page on Anthony "Tony" Horowitz. I was rather blissfully unaware that I was in defiance of those restrictions, but after considering them more carefully, it is obviously more sensible to avoid those complications. I have completely revised the original material, and now I am choosing to believe that I have avoided those pitfalls. On the off chance you might wish to review the newer version, I am pasting it here. Thank you so much for your efforts. Anthony “Tony” Horowitz (b. Sept. 16, 1945) is one of America’s finest trumpet players. He has spent his career as a professional musician performing with a Who’s Who of the world’s top musical personalities.
- Biography: Tony was born in Valley Stream, Long Island, New York to Charles and Sally Horowitz. He has an older brother, Robert, who is retired from the Los Angeles Police Department and still lives in Los Angeles.
- In March, 1946 the family moved from New York to North Hollywood, California. Tony was surrounded by music from childhood, and his parents were always quite supportive of his musical aspirations.
- Early life: Tony remembers that in 1953 he heard a recording of a trumpet solo on the radio that completely determined who and what he was to become. The recording was “And the Angels Sing,” a standard with lyrics by Johnny Mercer and music by Ziggy Elman, who was to become one of Tony’s most important mentors. His mother told him that the solo instrument he had just heard was a trumpet. From that day forward, Tony says that he knew that playing trumpet was what he wanted to do with his life.
- When he was nine years old he received his first cornet, and his mother surprised him with private lessons with Ziggy Elman, his new hero.
- He also studied during his early years with Claude Gordon, a highly renowned trumpet teacher, and Rafael Mendez, an internationally famous trumpet soloist.
- Tony played his first professional engagement in June, 1957 with “Slim LeRoy and His Cactus Riders.” With them he had his first live radio broadcast. That same year he did other broadcasts, as well, including with the Jim & Esther Russe Show at Sierra Creek and a broadcast from Dimaggio’s Restaurant.
- The following year, 1958, Tony put together his first band, Tony’s Tones, which featured other high school and pre-high school kids, many of who became very prominent members of the musical community. Among them were:
- Don Lombardi on drums, who later founded DW Drums
- John Gross on woodwinds would later become a tremendously important Jazz artist.
- Jim Gordon played drums, as well, and would go on to become a giant in the Los Angeles studio scene as well as cowriting, with Eric Clapton, “Layla,” which won a Grammy.
- Paul Peterson played trombone. He was also an actor who played Donna Reed’s son on the “Donna Reed Show.”
- Another drummer, Rick Coonce, played with Grass Roots, and Stuart Brotman, who was the original bassist with the group, Canned Heat
- Marriage and family:
- Tony’s first wife was Connie C. Green, and they were married in April, 1968 and divorced in 1973. They had one child, a son, Edmond Horowitz, who was born on May 24, 1970.
- On July 10, 1988 Tony and Naomi J. Weinstein were married.
- Professional life:
- In 1963 he joined the Musicians’ Union Local 47 and began doing a lot of society work and playing with Latin bands, such as Rene Touzet, Modesto Duran, and Carlos Vidal. These bands would often have some of LA’s best musicians, and Tony got an education every night. He was even included in the Jerry Grey orchestra.
- That same year, Tony began touring with Jimmy Wakely, a very well known Country Music artist of the day.
- In 1965, he toured with “Shindig ’65” with Gary Lewis and the Playboys and Dobie Gray. He also toured with Louis Bellson and Pearl Bailey. At the same time he continued to play with Jimmy Wakely on his weekly TV show for the next few years until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968, where he became the musical director of the 72nd U.S. Army Jazz Band at Fort MacArthur.
- When he was discharged in 1971 he returned to LA and appeared in some episodes of “Chicago Teddy Bears” and continued playing a wide variety of engagements in the area.
- In 1973 he toured with the Ray Charles Orchestra playing both lead trumpet and the Jazz chair. However, the following year he had surgery on his lip to to remove a tumor and was told he would never play again. So before proving the doctors wrong he was active as a singer in a variety of society bands before making a major comeback.
- Over the next few years he played with Louis Prima, for whom Tony arranged the music on his last album, “The Wildest ’75,” on which, Louis referred to him as his protégé, the Raquel Welch Show, and Lou Rawls.
- Then in the late ’70’s he broke into the LA studio scene where he recorded with artists such as; Kenny Rogers, Lionel Ritchie, Johnny Mathis, Michael and Jermaine Jackson, as well as being a regular with the orchestras of some of LA’s top composers. He also played on the soundtracks of a number of movies and was a regular in such TV show as; “Happy Days”, “Laverne and Shirley”, “Falconcrest”, “Knight Rider”, “Cheers”, and others. During this time he also taught at Dick Grove School of Music and was on the trial board of Local 47 of the Musicians’ Union.
- In 1989, Tony’s second wife, Naomi, joined the army and were posted in Germany for a few years, where Tony became a solo artist, appearing with the top bands around Europe and working as a musician in the recording studios.
- During that time, Tony recorded his first solo CD, “This is Tony Horowitz”.
- In 1993, Naomi was transferred to Texas, where Tony continued to work around the Austin area and taught music at Temple Community College.
- In 1993, Naomi was reassigned to Germany, and Tony resumed his work as a solo artist. This resulted in two more solo albums: “Texas Trumpet” and and a lightly Latin Jazz album, “Paz y Amor”.
- They returned to the USA in 2009. They are both retired and living happily in Harker Heights, Texas.
- Tony, as well as Dr. Naomi still lecture occasionally at various colleges and universities.
