Thank you
[edit]Thank you CattleGirl! Cool name. I posted the info on the AIV page per your recommendation. Now, I'm off to sleep... zzzzz... :) 76.166.123.129
Okay, my reports on User:Calton and User:Griot were promptly deleted from AIV page. Feel a bit of collusion and bullying is going on here. Request your assistance, big time. Thanks. 76.166.123.129
- I've had a look at the contributions for both of the users, and it seems to me as if they are in good faith. Do you have any specific links or versions that cause conflict?
- I think one of the reasons the posts were removed from AIV was because the users had also not been talked to. A good idea to compromise is perhaps to contact each of these users on their talk page and explain the problem.
- Perhaps reply to my question above and I'll be able to help you more?
- By the way, have you considered registering an account? It's free, and it also means that you have the ability to do things like create pages. Just a thought- CattleGirl talk | sign! 10:17, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- You might want to advise the anon -- who is almost certainly the owner/subject of the articles in question -- that she's had several MONTHS to make the slightest assertion of notability and has failed to do so. Also, removing unambiguous speedy tags? Definitely a no-no. --Calton | Talk 11:11, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, and I'd bet folding money that the anon has already registered an account. Check the edit history of the previously deleted version of Seasons & a Muse, Inc., and I'm guessing that it was originally created by an anon IP beginning with "76". --Calton | Talk 11:17, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- Wrong again, Calton. You just keep coming up trumps.
- CattleGirl, check out the history. Calton has axes to grind, but admins have admonished him already. I reported him and User Griot on the Incidents board. Thanks again for your help. 76.166.123.129 20:10, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Ok. Firstly, this seems to me to be a few problems- a number of misunderstandings, especially. I'll take it one at a time- Firstly- Seasons & a Muse, Inc. was deleted according to policy. I am not going to take sides in this debate, however according to Wikipedia policy Calton was right- the article did not fit our notability guidelines. Jeanne Marie Spicuzza, however, is borderline- as seen from the appropriate AFD debate. If you would like this article kept, I suggest adding some more sources to the bottom from 3rd party websites. I'm not going to participate in this AFD. I haven't got enough time to elaborate further on this, but I do suggest one thing- cool down, and assume good faith. To be blunt, if you want to contribute to this article, then contribute and be civil. Looking at the deletion page of the article, people are leaning towards delete on this as there's a concern for the lack of notability for an article. If you can find some more external sources, some reviews, etc to fit our guidelines, go ahead and maybe put a comment on the debate saying you are doing this- but leave it at that. Perhaps these articles are not notable enough for Wikipedia, but they are somewhere else. I suggest perhaps editing related articles? If you have any more questions, please ask, but please take my above suggestions into account. Cheers- CattleGirl talk | sign! 10:52, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- If you haven't seen it already, this should be educational, especially this link and this link. And whatever AGF the people in the first link have I do NOT share. Note the most recent voter in the AFD, too. --Calton | Talk 13:20, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- I've had a look already. What exactly do you both want me to do about this? CattleGirl talk | sign! 07:56, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Help!
[edit]Hi CattleGirl,
I have a question for you. How can I link a song to the listing from an album? If you go to the category Iron Maiden songs, you'll see a song titled "Remember Tomorrow." Now if you go to the album Iron Maiden from Iron Maiden, you'll notice that the link doesn't go to the song. I was able to link a couple of other songs that were not linked, but I'm having trouble with this one. Can you give me a hint?
Thanks,Alcoholica1 05:31, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi,
- I've just had a look, it seems that the reason it's not linking is that the title is incorrect. See, the name of the Remember Tomorrow article is Remember Tomorrow (Song), but you've got it linked as Remember Tomorrow (Iron Maiden Song). Easily fixed... I'll fix it now, infact.
- I'll reply to your other question in 2 secs... CattleGirl talk | sign! 07:46, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
Contesting deletion
[edit]Hello again,
Can you please help with contesting a deletion? I created an article on the Iron Maiden song "The Ides of March." I do understand that the article is a stub and I have categorized it as such. The reason given for deletion was that it was a nonnotable song. Although I agree most people don't know this song. If your an Iron Maiden fan, you would definetely know this song. To be honest I believe all the songs from the first seven albums are pretty memorable. And I also believe that an encyclopedia should touch on every song from the bands early career. From 1980 to around 1993 the band was highly popular and the music was at it's best. To say that any song from the early years is nonnotable is simply not true. Alcoholica1 07:29, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
- I've had a look at the article, and as far as I can see, it doesn't fit our notability guidelines. Has the song been highly rated in charts, or won any awards? Then perhaps it is, however, we're not allowed to have articles for every song here.
- Whereas to fans the song is notable, unfortunately for encyclopedia addition it may not be... but I don't know too much about this song. Have a look here. Does it fit into any of those points?
- If it does, consider saying so on the talk page and including relevant information to prove so. Cheers- CattleGirl talk | sign! 07:53, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Immediacy CMS
[edit]Hi CattleGirl, You have recently deleted an article I am trying to publish about the Immediacy CMS. Considering that this is a commercial product I can quite understand why you are deleting it - although I think I have kept the article purely factual and free of blatant commercialism ? However, with over 300 major UK organisations using Immediacy CMS, it is a significant player in the content management industry and the content management section is not showing a complete picture without an Immediacy article. There are other similar CMS vendors already represented in the section. If you were able to take a few minutes to let me know what it would take to publish an acceptable article about Immediacy, I would really appreciate it. Many Thanks. Simgard 10:43, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, Simgard, how are you?
- Ok, I'll recreate the article now, provided of course that you work with it (I may have been a bit quick in deleting). However, please make sure you are not violating WP:COI in doing so- have a look at our Neutral point of view policy, that can give you some more information.
- When you work on the article, make sure that you put in some more external links- third party, so outside the Immediacy CMS line of websites.
- That's all I can think of at the moment. I have to go offline now, but I can answer any of your questions later, or you may get quicker help if you need it at the Help Desk or using {{helpme}}. I hope that helped you! Cheers- CattleGirl talk 10:54, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi CattleGirl,
- thanks for recreating my article and for taking the time to give me some advice. And, I'm very well, thanks for asking. I hope you are too ? :).
- I should declare that I do have a commercial interest in Immediacy CMS; I am employed as the webmaster for the company. I understand and respect your concerns regarding advertising on Wikipedia and I will be especially careful to present a balanced, neutral point of view. My concern at the moment is that the "list of content management systems" pages includes some commercial systems but not others, which presents an unbalanced view of the industry.
- I will certainly put some more work into the article to add some more information, quote some external sources and point out why Immediacy is _notable_ :). Cheers Simgard 11:51, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Carried Away
[edit]I want the opinion of a more experienced editor on this one, and I've dug through the WP: pages, but have turned up nothing: When an article says that God did something, such as answered a prayer, caused a church to grow, name your kid something, etc. is this encyclopedic? the article I'm looking at is Carried Away. Now, I'm working on citing this article as well, and I know my sources will say that the band believed God gave them such a name, but does this mean it belongs in wikipedi? This is not the first instance I've come accross of this.RichieRich 03:16, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hello again, Tallrichard! How are you?
- I think in this case, the best thing to do is add the source that says the girls believe that God led them to name their band Carried Away. After all, if they have said this, then it can be well sourced- where id we said "God did lead them to name their band" then it can't really- whereas they and I might believe it, as humans we have no definite proof! So yes, in answering your question I think the best thing to do would be to add a source saying something like "they believe that God led them to name their band", as this is probably the only statement we can support with proof.
- Haha, I like your userpage, too- same here... the whole hours a day on Wikipedia thing I never predicted! :) Cheers- CattleGirl talk | sign! 09:24, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

CSD G7
[edit]Hi CG- I noticed that you deleted Image:Teenage Fanclub Live 2003.JPG as G7 (self-requested delete). If you look at the log, you'll see that I clumsily did the same thing and then changed my mind (same goes for Image:TFC Norman Blake 2003.JPG and Image:TFC Gerry Love 2003.JPG). The uploader (User:Megamanic) is fed up with WP and is leaving, and trying to take his images with him. As far as I know this is a violation of the GFDL, since the uploader released his control over the work when he tagged it. I'd like to re-undelete the images and put them back in the articles where they currently live as redlinks, but didn't want to revert you without your OK. My understanding of G7 isn't laid out explicitly anywhere as far as I can tell, but exactly this situation is addressed at Wikipedia_talk:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#G7. Let me know what you think. Please restore Constant Star
[edit]Please consider restoring the article Constant Star. Some of the following references seem to establish notability for Constant Star:
- Review in Variety
- Several awards in the the Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP Theatre Awards
- BroadwayWorld.com, Thursday, June 23, 2005 - Luster of “Constant Star” Lacking in “Ragtime”. Review of “Constant Star” by Jan Nargi
If you agree that these references establish notability, could you please restore the article and add these references to it? I didn't see the original article before it was deleted, so I don't know if any of these references were cited in the earlier version. --Eastmain 05:34, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Eastmain, how are you?
- For now I've redirected to page to Ida B. Wells, as the content in Constant Star was no more than the relevant section in Ida B. Well's page- an extra page for it is not needed. However, as the play becomes more well known, and perhaps more information and sources are given about it, in the future it could be a different case.
- Cheers- CattleGirl talk | sign! 06:25, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Peter Kenez Deletion
[edit]Hi. I've been a wikipedia user for years and just now started writing and editing articles. I noticed that you deleted one of my articles for "patented nonsense." I just wanted to know why; it said it may be improper formatting or something that doesn't merit an article. I just wanted to know if I could save the article or how I can learn from this; again, I'm new to the contributing end of wikipedia and I'd like to do my best to be a good contributor. Anyways, thanks for reading this. Hope all is well.
Kite head 07:14, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Kite_head
- Hi, how are you?
- The reason I deleted the page is that it's a page that does not merit an article, rather it is more of an instruction than an encyclopedia article. Also, it was only one line, and article should be at least a paragraph to begin with, to ensure that they have enough content. If you'd like more information, have a look at the criteria for speedy deletion.
- In terms of learning, perhaps you can create or edit an article that is a broader subject- or expand an article that already exists.
- I hope that answered your questions, if not, feel free to contact me again. Cheers- CattleGirl talk | sign! 07:24, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Gone Postal page
[edit]I don't want to sound like a pissed off dick, but why was my creation of the page for the Icelandic death metal band Gone Postal deleted?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Wikipedia about contributing facts and information about...everything?
This band exists, and it has made a small name for itself in the Icelandic death metal underground, and I think it's ridiculous that this information page was deleted.
Help me out here - FveLeafClvr
- Hi, FveLeafClvr, how are you?
- The reason I deleted the page was that it didn't have anough relevant google hits, and also much of the content was from your myspace page. Where Wikipedia wants as many articles on as many subjects as possible, in your case, the article did not fit WP:MUSIC. Also, there were no third party websites cited as sources.
- If you can find other notable websites with information on your band, please let me know. Also, make sure you take a look at WP:COI.
- Sorry for the rushed reply. If you have any more questions, feel free to contact me. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 03:58, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Speedy deletion
[edit]I received a message on my talk page that 3 articles that I recently created are candidates for speedy deletion. One page was about Olney Medal which is a very prestigious medal in textile industry and quite frankly I was surprised that there was no such article. The other article was about Louis Olney who cerated Olney Medal. Google finds 191 sites containing info about Olney Medal, 116 sites contain info on Louis Olney, and 21,600 sites with related information on The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (which is another article that was called for speedy deletion. Would you please consider again your decision about deleting these three articles ? Thank you. Igoruha 21:10, 16 June, 2007 (UTC).
- Hi, Igoruha, how are you?
- I've had another look at the pages you mentioned. The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists actually already has a page on Wikipedia, found here.
- Looking at the other pages, I don't think that they are notable enough to have their own article on Wikipedia, however I think the above page would do well to have a section for both the medal and Louis Olney. If you'd like, I can email you the deleted material so you can add it. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 03:50, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

- Yeah. I've just "cleaned up" The Mikey Way page a bit, too... Perhaps clean-up is the wrong word, though. I shoved up a bunch of [citation needed]s on places I thought might need citing... The Biography pages of the members of the band are atrocious. No one cites any sources, and as you said, just add fangirlish rumours and statements. Unconscious (talk) 08:32, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Callitech Removal?
[edit]Hi CattleGirl,
I have RECREATED a page for Callitech and wish to ask you not to delete it this time. It has much more information on it this time and this was my original plan, I merely put a small snippet as to create the page for a link for our website.
Is their any coincidence that in deleting it your username "cattlegirl" is not disimilar to Callitech?
If you choose to delete this again I will be very dissapointed as this is relevant information to many people and is not 'nonsense'. But if you do choose to delete it please let me know what steps I need to make to prevent you from doing it again.
Peace —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Andrewdever (talk • contribs).
- Hi, Andrewdever, how are you?
- I've had a look at the page, and unfortunately the content was not fitting our guidelines for pages. You see, our pages on wikipedia have to be both notable and written in a formal, encyclopedic style, also in the neutral point of view.
- From what I can see, you have not recreated the page- I have been the only person to delete Callitech. Did you recreate it under another name? Perhaps another version was also deleted, as I cannot see the new page in your contributions.
- Please note that recreation of deleted material is a violation of one of our speedy deletion points.
- For help in creating a page, please see the links in the above welcome message I have posted.
- My username- that is just a coincidence! :) Sorry... I more go to concerts that parties.
- I hope this helped you, if not feel free to contact me again. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 08:05, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I was informed earlier today about a bug in IE6. I've since fixed it per the suggestion and IE6 is working fine again. Just thought I'd let my spamlist know that they need to purge their local cache (Ctrl+F5 on most browsers) to get the latest version of the script. Regards, ^demon[omg plz] 16:10, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Vandalism by 203.27.235.5
[edit]I just undid some vandalism by 203.27.235.5 on the ICICI Bank page. Going to the talk page for the user shows that the user has vandalized in the past, including an article on Jammu that you fixed. Can we just ban the site?
Acad Ronin 13:31, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Argh, I didn't realise when I just warned the IP address that they already had a final warning. I just gave them a final warning then for their recent vandalism- if they vandalise again, then they can and most likely will be blocked.
- If you see them vandalising again, just list them on WP:AIV- the request will be noticed quickly. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 22:17, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Anon IP question
[edit]Heya again CattleGirl! Everything's been going swimmingly in the reverting vandalism department since our last exchange. I was wondering about repeated abuse from specific anon IPs. I seemed to remember somewhere that you can tag the page with information about the provider. I looked up one such vandal online and found the information about the physical location and ISP. Should I add this info to the page and if so, how? Thanks again! :) Eliz81 19:51, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hello once again!
- I've had a look for the template you're talking about- do you mean Template:SharedIP? That's the one that's used most often, although at the bottom of the page there's some templates that branch of this, being more specific.
- If you have the information, by all means add it to the talk page. As to how to add it, it depends on what template you're using- there's examples on the template page I linked above, depending on how specific your information is.
- I hope that answered your question! Cheers- CattleGirl talk 04:50, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Broken link on user page
[edit]Hi CattleGirl. On your user page there is a link to Angus Australia. The site doesn't seem to be working. I'm sorry if this is just a temporary problem. I hate to clutter talk pages. But I have to be bold, I guess :) Calamarain 08:34, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- No, no problem! Thanks for telling me, I fixed the link (wrong URL) :). Cheers- CattleGirl talk 08:48, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Template deletions
[edit]Hi cattlegirl,
I admit to being slightly bewildered by the deletion of the templates for settlements on the River Stour and settlements on the Staffordshire and Worcester Canal - in particular as they seem to me to have conveyed useful information about the local geography and to contextualise small villages by showing how they connect and relate to each other. Is there a general debate about templates that I have missed, or is each template judged on its own merits? Excellentone 16:37, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, how are you?
- I deleted these as per a Templates for Deletion discussion (found [[1]], basically for the reasons listed there.
- If you want, you could have a look at the deletion review page and list them there if you believe that they should be restored.
- Cheers- CattleGirl talk 09:00, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Cattlegirl
- I'm still confused (forgive me, the intricacies of policy elude me somewhat) were these templates deleted because someone suggested them on the basis that they started with Settlements on? was there a deletion discussion specifically for these templates? on what basis specifically were they deleted? (I can find only vague reasons which don't seem to correspond to the deletion policy at all). You'll have gathered that I'd like them to be restored or at least for a discussion to be held specifically over them before they are deleted. Best regards Excellentone 19:49, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, Excelletone, how are you?
- I didn't delete the templates because they all started with "settlements on"- the reason they were grouped in one deletion debate was that they were relatively similar templates, serving the same purpose (but of course on different articles), and the reasons for deleting were the same. Sorry I didn't clarify that earlier :).
- The reason I deleted the templates was that the specifications of what would be in each template were not clear, and would prove to be unmaintainable. Probably to sum up my reason for deletion nicely would be what ChoChoPK said in the debate, that what if we had a template for every highway/expressway for major cities?
- If you'd like, you can list the templates on Deletion review, where another discussion can take place as to whether the templates can be recreated.
- I'm pretty sure that answered your questions, if not, you know where to contact me. :) Cheers- CattleGirl talk 09:52, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
Hi there, CattleGirl. A couple of these deleted navboxes are still being called by a few articles ([2] [3]). I've just tidied up residual transclusions of the related A38-settlement navboxes: do you know if there is a deletion review forthcoming here or can I go ahead and tidy up after these deletions? — mholland (talk) 02:34, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, Mholland,
- Sorry, I didn't realise. I'm not sure about deletion review just yet, I'll have to wait for a reply from Excellentone. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 09:52, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism
[edit]Hi CattleGirl,
122.50.140.35 vandalized the Mauritius Commercial Bank page by deleting the entire History block.
220.244.190.214 vandalized the State Bank of India page by typing in gibberish in the references section.
Regards, Acad Ronin 16:25, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hello again, how are you? :)
- I've had a look at the contributions of the two IP addresses. The first one was just testing, so I've let that be for now, as it was their first and only edit. The second one made two edits, and I see you left a message on their talk page, which is good! Thanks.
- In future, you'll get a faster response if you warn the user with one of the templates from WP:WARN (starting at the first level, and if vandalism continues, escalating up the next levels). If you do that, after a level 4 warning you can list them at WP:AIV where someone can deal with it in a matter of minutes.
- Thanks for looking out for it, btw, we can never have enough users on vandalism patrol! Cheers, CattleGirl talk 09:14, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Copyright questions how to write article
[edit]Hey Cattlegirl,
Thanks for being willing to answer questions. My questions:
1. Copyright issues, knowing which one to use and when or if need to use it? My specific question is whether discussion posts from other forums can be used here in creating an article for wikipedia? Specifically Amazon.com Seller Forums how to create reference to user posts and discuss them in an article about Amazon forums? For a wikipedia article, does this require a copyright license category?
If there are other posts besides my own being discussed, I can't say I created the entire article myself. Confused about how to deal with this issue of bringing text from user forums and discussing them in an article. How do I fill out the "create an article form" for this with the copyright list? Would this article require my paraphrasing what happened in the posts without copying them directly? Then choose to say I created the article myself which means doesn't require copyright?
Sincerely would appreciate your help in answering questions,
T Hanson Artisansplace (Wiki User Id)
My email address is <email removed to prevent spam> (Not sure how we make contact so leaving this e-mail just in case you need it to reach me) Artisansplace 03:51, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, Artisansplace, how are you? I hope I can answer your questions well!
- When you say an article about the Amazon forums, I don't think that's necessary- there's already a section (under the 'Innovations' heading) on the Amazon.com page, which would be the best place to put information on the forums.
- When you talk about copyright, Wikipedia is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) agreement. This means that people can access the information, and copy or redistribute it, so long as there is some form of reference to the article.
- As for including information gathered from forums, generally this is viewed as an unreliable source, and these shouldn't really be used in Wikipedia. And for posting other's posts from the forum, perhaps instead of this you can include some information on the forum- such as when it was created, how it works and is formatted, etc.
- As for discussing posts, that doesn't really fit into our guidelines for new pages (gah, there's a guideline for everything!), specifically this. As you would be discussing posts, this would qualify as original thought, or original research, and would therefore not be encyclopedic.
- As for creating new pages with copyrights, that is pretty easy. As all pages on here are original, when using quotations from other websites, you can just quote that website in the references section of the article.
- I hope that answered your questions! If it didn't, you can also ask at the Help Desk, where another user might know something I didn't!
- When you log in, it should come up with a new messages bar when a new edit has been made to your talk page, but I'll email you as well in case :).
- Cheers- CattleGirl talk 09:21, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
