You've been missed

There's been a number of MMA Afd discussions lately that have not generated much participation. "Soft delete" has become a closing of choice in a surprising, to me, number of cases. In the past you've been more involved in these discussions, or at least that's what my memory believes. Hope all is well with you and that you've just been too busy for these discussions. Papaursa (talk) 14:57, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

Papaursa Hi, Hope you are well. Yes, I have been a little bit busy these days since the lockdown was lifted for we are allowed to go to the gyms again and working on intermediate guitar skills after taking my guitars and amps from the storage :) and also my workload has been increased as some days I work up to 12 hrs/day. Thanks for the reminder and I will check on the AfD from time to time. Stay safe Papaursa and best. Cassiopeia talk 04:58, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

Asking for advice

Hello Cassiopeia hope you have been doing well. I have a question in the near future I will be uploading a couple image to wikimedia Commons. Now I need to gain permission by asking the trademark holder and sending it into Wikipedia it says. How would I go about doing this like is there a certain format or am I just supposed to ask them by email or something? Either way I don't mind doing that. I also have a side question if say one of the images that I am uploading is an emblem of something that is now defunct and does not hold a licensed trade Mark agreement would I have to ask permission still to use that?Tsims23 (talk) 05:07, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

Tsims23 Good day and hope you are well. All is well here and thank you for asking. All images/photos/posters/artworks, in regardless it is a defunct emblem/images, need to have copyright holder " irrevocably release the source material under one or more suitably-free and compatible copyright licenses" such as CC BY-SA or a CC BY-SA-compatible license and, if possible, also the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) prior the images can be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and to be used in Wikipedia. The released of the source material (copyright) means not only Wikipedia can used the images but also the whole world including commercial use. You can read more on WP:PERMISSION and here are examples how to request for permission. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 05:26, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
That is good to hear I am glad. Things are good here as well getting quite cold now though, I will admit all of that was quite confusing to me but I have been reading up on some of the articles linked. I have a question about the permission like for instance I understand that it's basically the copyright holder making it free in a way so that it can be added to Wikipedia, but for instance how do we have the right to have the Hell's Angels emblem on the site? I don't know for sure but I just assumed that they wouldn't allow the symbol to be used freely. And if that is the case I will just have to find the copyright holder or at least someone who has access to the photos. Thanks again for the help!Tsims23 (talk) 06:48, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
@Tsims23 and Nick Moyes: Someone who have access to the photo is not the same who is the copyright holder. I have looped in Nick Moyes here, who is an admin and he was Senior Keeper of Natural History at Derby Museum and Art Gallery in England. Hi Nick, I hope you could help Tsim23 here in image copyright questions and provide the answer in details as you are have in dept. of knowledge in this area. Nick, thanks in advance. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 07:04, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
Thank you very much for the help Cassiopeia and any help you could offer Nick would be appreciated and I know that person that holds the image doesn't hold the copyright but they might know where to find it since they have obviously been given permission. Either way it will take some time but I will figure it out Tsims23 (talk) 09:27, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
Hello @Tsims23 I'm no expert on Copyright, but I hope the following may guide you. I'll break things down in small points:
  • We normally advise copyright owners to upload and release their images to Wikimedia Commons. For all such images, this has to be under a Creative Commons licence which permits commercial free use. Images on Commons can be added to any language Wikipedia article. However, uploading to Wikimedia Commons is not at all suited for logos and trade marks...
  • Trade marks and logos will undoubtedly be copyright. They would be deleted from Commons unless the genuine owner had made a special declaration to release the image for commercial re-use, and that is highly unlikely to happen for this kind of file.
  • The solution is to upload only to English Wikipedia via the Contribution>Upload file link on the far left edge of the screen in desktop view. Do NOT claim the image as your own, but select the option on non-free use.
  • We permit very limited use of copyrighted logos under a 'fair use' criterion. The logo can only be used on the one article about that organisation, and not scattered liberally through various other articles. Thus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hells_Angels_logo.jpg can be used on that article, but may not be embedded here within my answer to you as its use would not be seen as reasonable or necessary here. (Someone would eventually spot this and tell me off for doing so).
  • See WP:FAIR USE for details on what is permissible. Here is an example of one such copyrighted image I uploaded recently on behalf of the person running the website for this organisation.
  • If you know the owner of a photograph who wants to make it available for anyone to use on Wikipedia, there are two routes for them to follow to make it available. Neither route involves them emailing you the photo and saying it's OK for you to upload it as we simply have no way of checking if you're telling the truth.
  • The routes are either: A) Ask them to create an account here, and get then to upload the image themselves (using this link to do so), or B) Email the photo from a recognisable official address (e.g. office@hellsangel.com; manager@nickmoyes.co.uk etc etc) to our special team of volunteer responders called 'OTRS'.
  • I never feel that help files on Wikimedia Commons are as helpful as they should be. But please see c:Commons:Volunteer Response Team, or c:Commons:Email templates for a form of words that can be modified to send to those volunteers to release those images for use.
I hope this has made sense. Let me know if it doesn't. Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 16:29, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
@Nick Moyes: Hello sir and thank you for getting back to me with all that information I do appreciate it. I am currently doing some running around but will do an in-depth read soon. And the Angels emblem makes sense when you put it like that. That is a similar situation to what I'm doing I created uploaded a couple photos that I assumed had no copyright as the groups were defunct but after a talk with Cassiopeia that has been clarified for me so I will need to reupload them under proper guildlines just to be sure. An example is the Kings Crew Motorcycle Club a now defunct Canadian Club that was absorbed by the Hell's Angels in the 1990s. I don't know if that would qualify with the Hell's Angels one would either way I will follow the proper guidelines I have three photos I got to do it with. Thanks again for all your help and I will reply soonTsims23 (talk) 17:33, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
@Nick Moyes: Thank you Nick for helping out. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 23:50, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

Student

Hi, I am. I want you to train me in Counter Vandalism . I got your name from WP:CVUA. Would you please accept me as your student?? Please do so. Thanks. Itcouldbepossible (Talk) (Contributions) (Log) 08:06, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

Itcouldbepossible Good day. Although you have enough total mainspace edits to participate in the program, from your contribution log and your talk page, it shows that you need to do more "normal edit" such as helping on Wikipedia:Basic copyediting, reading up Wikipedia guidelines and observe how the editing is done in the article before doing any vandalism edits for awhile (say 1,000 total edits) as for now some of your counter vandalism edits are considered disruptive instead of counter vandalism which are not helpful at all. You dont need rollback to work on counter vandalism by the way, and participating in CVUA is not the mean to gain rollback right but the program is intent for editors who would like to the counter vandalism work for a long time. All the trainees I have got who have less than 1,500 main space edits, none of them graduated from the program for they program not only require the participant a lot of their time on reading material, working on assignment, but the knowledge of the guidelines and the applications where by all of the said participant eventually abandons the program. I suggest you to have at least 2,000 total mainspace edits prior joining the program and at the meant time pls participate in the WP:TWA to gain some basic knowledge of Wikipedia guidelines.08:38, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
@Cassiopeia: Thanks, but I wanted to tell you something. I am having some problem regarding the WIkipedia Adventure. Even if I do the things that it is saying, then also it does not take me to the next level. Could you please help me. And please ping me, because I don't generally keep a watch on my watchlist, since I have already 500 pages there, and it is really troublesome, to see the diffs.
@Itcouldbepossible: If you use mobile than WTA might not work. Use desk/lap top and try again. You need to have some basic Wikipedia knowlege/guidelines first and as mentioned, observe how other more experienced editors edit and apply the guidelines. Not quick fix to this but you need to be patience and not get ahead of yourself. Pls do not do counter vandalism work at the moment and wait until you have more basic knowdlege as mentioned above. Cassiopeia talk 01:58, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
@Cassiopeia Yes, I have been working on my laptop, but still I am having the problems. And why should I not revert vandalism...many editors says, that my anti vandalism work is fine.. If I don't revert vandalism, then what type of editing should I do? It is one thing that I thought I knew the best. Itcouldbepossible (Talk) (Contributions) (Log) 03:28, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
@Itcouldbepossible: Frist of all, you dont need to ping the editor who you write to on their talk page but only on all other talk pages. Secondly, you need to add additional ":" /colon from the previous message thread for one space indentation to the right to separate the the messages as this is the communication protocol in Wikipedia. Thirdly, pls read my messages above as I have already indicate the areas you might able to edit as well as you could check out all the links in the Welcome message in your talk page to learn some guidelines. Lastly, I dont see editors praise about your counter vandalism edits but in your talk page many editors indicated there are some issues of your edits. You need to understand basic Wikipedia guidelines first before doing counter vandalism work same as walk first before you learn to run. When you are ahead of yourself, it will reflect in your edits. I am not sure why TWA could not work in your lap top, pls head to Teahouse and maybe there are some technical editors able to help you. Cassiopeia talk 03:50, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
Ok thanks, but I wrote a ":" sign before writing the reply. I use an automated reply system, that is I just click reply beside the last conversation, so the ":" is automatic.
And thanks, I understand what you are saying. But as you may be knowing, almost 6 to 7 editors have thanked me for reverting vandalism, though it is a small number, but still. As per what you said, I am already nearing (1000 edits) so, can I continue reverting vandalism. And as you say, I have only done 4 wrong reverts till date, out of my almost 800 vandalism reverts. So, does it matter? If you dig, into your contributions, then at some point of time you will see, that you have also made some or the other mistake. And the thing is that, I have already apologized for my mistakes. Anyway, I will keep in mind all the things that you said. Thanks. Itcouldbepossible (Talk) (Contributions) (Log) 06:38, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
@Itcouldbepossible: Every editors make mistakes so do I. When you have finished TWA program and your total main space edits are 1500 or over, then if you are still interested in CUVA, then pop back here. Cassiopeia talk 09:06, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
@Cassiopeia I am having problem with TWA so, I cannot do that. But I will surely try and make 1500 or over edits, and then come back here because I am really interested in WP:CVUA. Thanks for all the help you provided. Itcouldbepossible (Talk) (Contributions) (Log) 09:10, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

Robbie Lawler, hip or knee injury.

Several different sources indicates that it was a hip injury, plus I believe that Bloody Elbow is also a reliable source, and they put it as a hip injury, I don't wanna make bad edits, I just wanna make the most correct edits as much as it possible... Have a good day. 👍 7random (talk) 09:14, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

7random pls provide other sources as indicated above. Bloody Elbow stated due to hip injury but I dont see it states that the fight method of the result is "TKO (hip injury)", if I missed it then let me know. Cassiopeia talk 09:45, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
[1]. This is from ESPN, it's stated as Submission, but injury is not an actual submission, so it was changed to a TKO by Sherdog, but Sherdog put it as TKO (knee injury), but I found several different sources that indicates that it was a hip injury. I think that the most accurate is TKO (submission to hip injury) or just TKO (hip injury). 7random (talk) 10:17, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
Here is another one: [2]... It's stated that Lawler submitted due to hip injury, again I think that the most correct would be TKO (submission to hip injury) or just TKO (hip injury). 7random (talk) 10:33, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

Please could you reply on your talk page? Your research is irrelevant. It needs to echo word for word a reliable source.NEDOCHAN (talk) 10:37, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
I think that the most correct would be TKO (submission to hip injury) or just TKO (hip injury)... NEDOCHAN you think TKO (knee injury), so Cassiopeia what do you think? 7random (talk) 10:58, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
I think that we should also take a look at other sources, there are ESPN and Sherdog, but there are some other sources as well, like Bloody Elbow for example. 7random (talk) 11:01, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
The BE article doesn't give the official result of the fight. NEDOCHAN (talk) 11:21, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
Hey Cassiopeia, this is from UFC, it's stated that Lawler suffered a dislocated hip.[1]7random (talk) 12:38, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

It's about the record. The source is fine for the article content but this is the listed result. No source you have given states the actual result. So stop. Please. NEDOCHAN (talk) 16:09, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
OK guys, let it be TKO (knee injury), I still think that TKO (hip injury) makes more sense, but if both of you agreed to TKO (knee injury) then let it be like that... Take care guys, all the best. 👍 7random (talk) 17:08, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
@7random and NEDOCHAN: Hello 7random, I went to bed after my last message and just noticed your discussion above with NEDOCHAN. There are a few things I would like to info you prior I comment the issue above.
(1) You need to add additional " : " (colon) from the previous message thread for one space indentation to the right to separate different messages as this is the communication protocol in any talk pages in Wikipedia. I have added some colons above and you can viewed them in "source editing mode". For more Wikipedia mark up, pls visit Help:Wikitext.
(2) Wikipedia is NOT about the true but it is all about verification from independent, reliable source. Example: if the source states Mr.XXX has 3 sons but in real life Mr.XXX has 2 sons, than we put 3 sons in the article with inline citation (source). We only correct the info in the article when the source correct itself. see WP:PROVEIT, WP:V and Wikipedia:But it's true!.
(3) We dont interpret the source but we paraphrase the source info in the Wikipedia article. So if the source states "the lady suffered a broken rib, some cuts in the arms and later she died in the hospital after the accident." We can NOT interpret that the lady died due to broken rib or rib injury as that is not the source stated and we have no idea what is the exact cause of her death.
(4) Edit warring - if you are not familiar with 3 revert rule than pls make yourself familiar. If you revert more than 3 time on the same page within 24 hours, you will be blocked from editing.
(5) Keep discussion on one place. If the discussion is on your talk page, then keep it there, instead of write on your talk page, other editor's talk page and the article talk page.
Now to answer your question
(a) UFC is not an independent source for they are related to the subject (Lawler), for such we can not use the source
(b) BE and essentialsport do not indicate the fight method, but mainly state Lawler suffered from hip injury
(c) Unless you could find many sources indicated the "same" fight method other than Sherdog, we use Sherdog.
(d) We dont interpret ESPN fight method even it is wrong or we witnessed the fight ourselves as Wikipedia is about verification and not the true.
(e) What you provided didnt indicate the fight method is "TKO (hip injury)", so we will go by that of Sherdog which the source can be found at the bottom fight record of Lawler page.
Stay safe and best.00:29, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
So is ESPN not considered a reliable source for fight results? ♡RAFAEL♡(talk) 07:11, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
RafaelHP Just to get into a little detail here, not only ESPN, but Sherdog or any other sources that indicate the fight method or any source content, we dont interpret them even if the info is wrong. Example, a fighter won with a submission win via an arm-bar, but source fight method indicates the fight method is "KO "flying knee", we will put KO flying knee. Of course, there will be other sources would indicate the info correctly that can be used - this also apply to content info - Example, Mr. XXX has two sons but the sources indicates he has 3 sons, we will put 3 sons in the body text. We will correct it when the source correct itself. To answer your question, ESPN is a reliable source, but ESPN has signed a 7 year contract with UFC and has a very close relationship with UFC, this make ESPN not independent source for UFC events. Kellie Harrington

Hi Cassiopeia, Just noticed your message re Kelly Harrington. Had to look up the edit you reverted. It seems you removed my description of Harrington as 'an Olympian' on the grounds that I had not provided a source. The edit has effectively been reverted through further edits from others, but just thought I'd point out that the description did not require a source as anyone who has represented their country at the Olympics is considered an Olympian (for life), and the reference to Harrington's Olympic representative status was listed elsewhere in the article.

Thanks for the message. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiEditor0227 (talkcontribs) 07:32, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

I would ask you to look carefully at the edits I made before accusing me of unconstructive edits/vandalism. the page "Cody Garbrandt" had already been "vandalized" and I submitted the editing of Cody Garbrandt's middle name from "no chin" to "Ray Allen," as well as removing "chinless" from the "nickname" section.

Re: April 2020 warnings on my User talk page

Hi, I received 4 warnings in short succession for edits I made to to users stances without a reference. However I did those changes all at once and don't think I should have 4 warnings for all of those edits I did at once, since I didn't know, and now I know.

Also, one of the pages I edited was Anthony Pettis where I removed the stance info, since it linked to a broken link, should broken links not be removed? Thanks Lemanakmelo (talk) 10:10, 17 December 2021 (UTC)

Lemanakmelo Good day and thank you for the question. This-1 was your edit and this-2 was and still is the source. The source/link was not broken. If a source/link is broken, you can remove the info and the source. However, this is not the case, you just simply remove the source and substitute with your own info without providing an independent, reliable source. The warning was to "deter" you of such actions with stronger warnings on subsequent vandalism/destructive edit. It is normal for new user to made mistakes; so please read the link/wikipedia guidelines on the welcome message and additional info from me on your talk page. Stay safe and best.
