Germany Project

[edit]

You're right about the huge scope of any such project. But the currently reactivated Prussia project will handle the articles related to old Prussia. Similar specialized work groups and/or task forces could easily be created within the project as well. But, given the significance of Germany in the current world, and in the old world, there does seem to be a need for some sort of project keeping track of the German content on wikipedia. It would also be the logical place/group to keep up the Portal:Germany and any other related portals. Lastly, like the Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia, Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography, it could provide some support functions (like assessment, referencing, review, etc.), for all of the various allied projects. Those were the intentions of creating the new project, anyway. And the old one just got deleted, so I hoped that we might try to make the potential successor (and possibly succeeding failure, as well) one with a better chance of amounting to something. Thank You for information about the project. (Terot 14:46, 13 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]

GDR project

[edit]

I am uncertain about the best way to go on with this. I think a GDR project could be nice, reasonably-sized and focussed, with a chance at actually completing some tasks (unlike the Germany project, which is a bit large). Anyway, you should check out my draft at User:Kusma/WikiProject German Democratic Republic before I submit it to the proposals page. Kusma (討論) 18:08, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're probably right and if we can get the infrastructure for a Germany project going, we can do without a separate GDR project and just organize the relevant things on subpages of the Germany project. More important than talking about it is probably to do some actual work on the project ;-) We could ask some of the organizers of other large-scale WikiProjects or the WikiProject Council for help, though (probably better than asking people knowledgeable about the subject matter, as this is a question of organization and management, not one of content). [edit]

Thanks for letting me know. btw on that page I found {{Nuremberg U-Bahn stub}} but before adding that to the list I was wondering if the templatelist on the project should go so deep into detail or if it just stay Germany wide? Agathoclea 05:53, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Full well intend to do not create any further templates. Just wanted to let you know that I actually didn't create any of the existing ones either. They were all copied from the previous Germany project page. It hadn't occurred to me to verify that they were all approved, and you have my sincerest apologies for having included any which might not have been. If you so desire, please feel free to delete those which haven't yet been approved, and simply indicate on the talk page that such templates have not been approved. Thank you. AWB edit rate

[edit]

You are editing a bit fast :-) (more than 2-3/minute probably already counts as too much). You should probably get a bot flag so you can edit at this rate, and it will have the additional benefit of not cluttering up your own contributions list that much. Happy tagging, Kusma (討論) 15:53, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"class", not "Class"

[edit]

I noted many of the articles you graded were worded as "Class={whatever}". Unfortunately, the computer only recognizes "class=" for these purposes. Just a reminder for the next time. Badbilltucker 18:42, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re Breisach thanks

[edit]

I appreciate your noting my editing. As I say on my User Page, I try not to interfere with the author's writing, and I assume—always a questionable thing to do—that I didn't. I just hope to improve a bit. I took it out of copyedit because it's been some time since I worked on it, and there have been no additions. I like the article. Thanks for writing it. And, your user page is a work of art. Outlook 00:01, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My plugin

[edit]

Hi,

I see from the log pages that you're using my plugin. A couple of issues:

  • It would seem that the date links are incorrect, presumably because your Windows settings aren't English. I'll have to fix that.
  • It looks from the log like you're having a few problems building your list. You have to convert all articles to talk pages first. Right click in the AWB file list and you'll see an option to do just that.

Hope that helps. --kingboyk 15:00, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for rating my article on Robert Ley as "start" class. Would you care to suggest how it might be further improved? Would you care to have a go yourself at improving it? Deutsche Kommunistische Partei

[edit]

Hi,

Re: your message on my talk page. The name of the party is not "German Communist Party" as you say, nor is it "Communist Party of Germany". It is "Deutsche Kommunistische Partei". I don't believe the English speaking Wikipedia reader cares about details on how this is translated. For the Wikipedia reader, what is needed, is clarity. This means that it should be clear that in the past 100 years, several German parties have called themselves "Kommunistische Partei" (communist party). If you have one article on the Communist Party of Germany and another on the German Communist Party, you create confusion, because it is only clear that there is a difference between the two to someone who has more background information, who already has read a bit on the topic. --Luxem 18:36, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: "Further, which name is used is very important. Because the "Communist Party of Germany" is banned but the "German Communist Party" is not." You're right. I did the move a bit too fast.
I think however that we should keep the references from both articles to each other and/or the disambiguation page, to help the not-so-informed reader. What do you think ? --Luxem 20:42, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In relation to both this and Robert Ley, the boxes you are adding require you to state your reasons for giving the "rating" you do and to suggest how the article could be improved. In neither case have you done so. Without these comments, why should I take note of your rating, since I have no idea of your qualifications to issue it? Without comments, these boxes are not only useless, but an impertinence. Unless you add some comments soon I will delete the boxes. Adam 00:38, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • The box says: "If you rated the article please give a short summary at comments to explain the ratings and/or to identify the strengths and weaknesses." In neither case did you do so until prompted by me.
  • You criticised Robert Ley for having too little material in the introduction and now you criticise German Resistance for having too much. In neither case do I agree with you.
  • German Resistance is a thoroughly referenced article and doesn't need inline citations.
  • I agree that the statement concerning the level of public support for Hitler's regime needs to be referenced. You could have done it yourself, or you could have asked me to do it at the article's Talk page, or on my Talk page. Instead you posted a box (one more ugly box) that conveyed no useful information to me, forcing me to waste my time interrogating you to get this information from you. Adam 11:06, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't ask you for comments. I didn't ask you to get involved with these articles at all. I asked you what business you have assigning ratings to articles you have made no contribution to without giving any reasons or making any comment. There are two kinds of people at Wikipedia - those who write articles and those who make difficulties for those who write articles, most recently by festooning them with ugly, useless and vexatious boxes. I write articles, and I suggest you go and do likewise. Adam 08:53, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Most of the important discussions related to the project take place on the project's main talk page; you may find it useful to watchlist it.
  • We've developed a number of guidelines for names, titles, and other things to standardize our articles and make interlinking easier that you may find useful.

Here are some tasks you can do. Please remove completed tasks from the list.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me or any of the more experienced members of the project, and we'll be very happy to help you. I would appreciate it if you could sort of check it against the latter and add in any bits of relevant information I may have left out (or translated wrongly, since for the German version, I relied on a machine translation to pick out what I could). But if not, don't worry - I'll try to find someone else to help. Biruitorul 04:54, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Bernhard Sekles, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. Thanks for your feedback. Maybe you'd like to have a look on the current version, see if it's not too complex or if there ain't got too much repetitions. The basics of the article has been its Spanish version, but I've now well read all its (often implicit) sources from which it has been written. Cheers! Tazmaniacs 19:19, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS: of course, you can expect some obscurity which comes from its subject itself: it is a strange group, and its members have had very different trajectories. Henceforth, one can't expect the article to be... too clear! Tazmaniacs 19:21, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
