Speedy deletion nomination of Gloucester Marine Railways
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Gloucester Marine Railways requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.gloucestermarinerailways.com/history.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Wikipedia's General Notability Guideline
[edit]Greetings, @Capt.J.W.King:, and welcome to Wikipedia. Can I ask, have you read through Wikipedia's General Notability Guidelines (located here)? It appears that you have created articles that do not meet Wikipedia's notability threshold, which may lead to them being deleted without warning. You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}

Speedy deletion nomination of Schooner Liberty Star
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Schooner Liberty Star, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
- It appears to be a clear copyright infringement of http://www.libertyfleet.com/boston-harbor-sailing-fleet/liberty-star. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". I see you've been reverted a few times for adding unsourced material to articles. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Verifiability to see why, and how to add properly sourced material that won't be reverted. Kendall-K1 (talk) 23:41, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi there
[edit]Hello @Capt.J.W.King: thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. You seem to have been treated rather harshly with all of these deletion notices, despite your content being of quite high quality. The issue was mainly with sources, although you seem to have fixed that now. If you want to reply to messages you can edit this page just like an article and if you want to take part in some of those deletion discussions you can click the link which reads "this article's entry". Feel free to ask me any questions. Laurdecl talk 03:44, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
You seem to have an interest in sailing (how do I know?) so you might want to take a look at WP:SAIL when and if (ha) you feel more comfortable editing. Laurdecl talk 03:46, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the input! Yeah you guys need some help with your nautical entries, much of it sounds like lubbers wrote it. I work aboard tall ships and in boatyards, got quite a few friends who are old time sailors and captains who don't know the Internet well, so I'm acting as a go-between. Expect more edits and more articles, although my new laptop comes tomorrow, as so far I have done everything on my iPhone and iPad, which is exhausting and eye-twisting. Thanks for the constructive criticism, keep it up and I might actually figure this thing out worth a damn!
- Hi Capt.J.W.King, and welcome aboard! As you say, there's a lot to do in the world of sailing. With time, you'll get more proficient with adding sources (see Wikipedia:Citation templates) and other markup tools (see Help:Wiki markup). In the meantime, you'll find text at the bottom of each talk page that says, Sign your posts on talk pages: ~~~~. You can click on the ~~~~ and automatically sign your comment, as I'm about to do here! Cheers, User:HopsonRoad 17:26, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Capt.J.W.King: Thanks for the reply, I see your editing has definitely improved. I added an infobox to When and If and some sources. We definitely need some help with our articles and if you're looking for some to improve you can take a look through categories, such as Category:Schooners. You can remove the deletion notices from your talk page if you want, sometimes editors like to jump the gun and try to get articles deleted. Take a look at these articles: WP:V, WP:N and WP:OR for some guidance, they are probably the most important policies on Wikipedia. You might want to create a user page to tell other editors about yourself by clicking the red "User" link at the top of your page. Laurdecl talk 03:07, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Morgan Yachts
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Morgan Yachts requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Flat Out (talk) 02:05, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
Hello, Capt.J.W.King. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Malabar X, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:
- edit the page
- remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}}
- save the page
Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

[edit]Regarding speedy deletion-- Maine Windjammer Cruises
[edit]Hello, Capt.J.W.King. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. I'm sorry, but a page you created Maine Windjammer Cruises has been deleted as meeting one or more of the Categories for Speedy Deletion.
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects of articles must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources which are unconnected with the subject and which provide verifiable information. Someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject.
Any deficiencies should be remedied before reposting as they can lead to repeated deletions.
The new user tutorial can help you avoid future problems.
If you want to try again, please use the Article Wizard or articles for creation to guide you through the creation process.
You may find this tool useful for finding sources: Google custom search
Don't feel discouraged. My first attempts at creating articles were deleted too. You can ask for help at the TEAHOUSE
There is more information at Wikipedia:Community_portal Cheers, and happy editing. -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 02:45, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
Captain Louis Kenedy
[edit]The problems with the article are encapsulated in your edit summary "created new page about Capt. Lou Kenedy with permission of his daughter Patsy Bolling, using the book "The Last Schoonerman" as a reference guide".
- If you felt the need to ask his daughter for permission, then he probably wasn't notable enough, or "public" enough (for want of a better way of putting it) for an encyclopedia article.
- If you had access to his daughter, then you're probably too closely connected to the subject to be able to write dispassionately - you have a conflict of interest. Cabayi (talk) 16:25, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Capt.J.W.King. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Captain Louis Kenedy, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Cabayi (talk) 16:25, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
I have never met Lou Kenedy, but I have met his daughter. I do not feel as though I have a conflict of interest. The few articles I have written here on Wikipedia were literally to fill in gaps that to me, as a sailor, are incredulous. I have been trying to help fill in those gaps as best I can. Capt.J.W.King (talk) 17:12, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
- Fair enough. To me the article looks WP:TOOMUCH. Generally that's a strong indicator of a COI, but I guess it could just be a case of too much. It doesn't help that it doesn't look like a Wikipedia biography :
- strange section heads rather than MOS:SECTIONS;
- references dumped at the end rather than WP:INCITE;
- too much WP:PEACOCK such as "legendary boatbuilder";
- purple prose "The sun went down as the tide rose, and a few hours after dark a dory slipped onto the side...", which is out of place in an encyclopedia article.
- Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 21:36, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Ben Pine
[edit]Hello Capt.J.W.King,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Ben Pine for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Disambiguation link notification for December 30
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Schooner, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Trawler and Thomas McManus (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:07, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
